Did Anyone Cry?

(A song about Krychek's death.)

As he lay there cold and dead

I wonder if a tear was shed.

Did anyone cry, did anyone sigh?

Did he get to say goodbye?

An old friend, a lost lover

Was he protecting a young daughter?

Who will help them to recover?

A strong father or a brother?

At that desperate hour

In that desolate place–

For the doomed and disgraced–

Who's heavy step of slow pace

will arrive, at last, to show their face?

Could he have done things better?

His folks will ask when they get together.

Trading stories of a man

That they failed to understand.

Broke everything he touched.

Though it never gained him much.

Where he lay rigid in a steel bed-

Was he identified by a friend?

Did he have a premonition?

– did he ignore his intuition?

And still landed his last mission.

with no possibility of remission.

And I ask from where I'm perched,

was it a graveside or a church?

Or was it the dreaded cremation?

Is his soul still searching for salvation?

In a barren place with concrete walls

Where I saw the bad one fall,

Did anyone cry, did anyone sigh?

Did he get to say goodbye?

Look at the footage, it's all there.

How he ended up nowhere.

And so, I ask from where I stand:

Did anyone hold his only hand?
