It was happening again, and she was powerless to stop it. She walked, oblivious to what was coming, then it began; first the siezing of her belt which propelled her some 10 feet away and face down on the floor, there she was, as always, hyper-aware of the noise: an electrical short, and out of the corner of her eye she saw a flash which she knew to be an electrical explosion; this was followed by a scream, would it never end?
"NO!"
Jan Brady sat up in bed, heart racing, covered in sweat. Her sister Cindy was awakened by the scream. 'Same nightmare, Jan?" Trying to calm her heart, Jan could only nod her head in response. "Will it never stop?" Jan was too frustrated; she knew the event was the blinding of her brother, Bobby who had sacrificed his sight to safe her life. That morning, Bobby was to have his bandages removed. Several weeks ago, he had an operation performed that the specialist said, had a chance to restore his sight. Jan hoped he was right; she wanted more than anything, for Bobby to see again.
The doctor carefully removed the bandages from his face and had him shield his eyes before removing the pads from the eyes. Bobby remembered his warning about light sensitivity since his eyes had been covered for more than a month and he had been blinded over a year ago. Holding up his hand Bobby asked, "Does anyone have a pair of dark glasses for me to wear until my eyes recover?" He then held out his left hand in the general direction where he knew his family stood. "Here Bobby.' replied Greg, the oldest, who proceeded to press a pair of glasses into his hand.
Bobby shielded his eyes as the pads were removed, then put on the glasses; time seemed to stand still and Bobby had the distinct impression that the members of his family were holding their breath. Bobby opend his eyes slowly to allow his eyes to adjust then said to everyone present, "I still can't see."
