Chapter 1- Enter the (Reluctant) Duelist
?'s POV
The first thing that I remember is waking up this morning in pain. My entire head felt like it was bathing in lava. I stumbled out of bed and rolled in pain on the floor. Grabbing my head in pain, I was bombarded with memories that weren't my own. Flashing images of a gloomy looking male teenager studying and overlooking cards. Supportive parents, encouraging him to not give up and helping him every way they can.
More images flashed in my head, giving me even more pain. One of the teen taking a sort of exam, and another of the boy participating in a Yu-Gi-Oh!-like duel with another young teen. Him winning some duels while losing a few others.
The last memory that flashed in my head was one of the teen going to bed late at night, a large stack of books and various papers and cards sitting on his desk. Laying on top of his bed, the young teen went to sleep for the last time.
Soon the pain subsided, I let out a few gasping breaths as sweat began to form on my face. These memories aren't my own, they belong to this body, this boy. Jio Yuhara, his hardships these past few months aren't mine, but are drilled into my memories.
I began to panic as the truth hit me like Ra did to Joey during Battle City. I was reborn into the Yu-Gi-Oh! world in the body of a teenager trying to get into Duel Academy. I don't know what to do, what do I do? Yesterday, I was an average twenty year old college student. Today? I find myself isekai'd into the Yu-Gi-Oh! world. I haven't even seen that anime in years!
The good news is that I know the era I'm in. Judging by the posters inside my new bedroom, and the calendar with today's date marked as "Duel Academy Entrance Exam." I'd say that I'm in the GX era.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I'm a far cry from what I used to be. I was an average looking guy, but now I'm a gloomy looking anime boy.
Standing at an average 5'7", I have messy black hair with parted bangs that reaches the nape of my neck. My body is rather slim and my skin is now rather pale. My new face is slightly feminine looking, giving me a pretty boy look. My eyes are a deep blue and I have noticeably long lashes. Luckily, my long hair and the glasses on my face made me look more average and gloomy; rather than a pretty boy.
After making my way to the nearby desk, I discovered the bad news. I spotted an assortment of different cards and torn open booster packs, clearly an attempt to make a new deck in a short amount of time. Sat neatly to the side of the mess of cards, is a deck. The cards were in perfect condition, practically brand new, and my body froze after seeing the Monster Cards in the deck.

Heck, even the Chimeratechs are in this deck! Well, from what I remember, the Cyberdarks are a series of forbidden cards in the Cyber Art school in the anime. Which Zane obtained after he became the edgy black wearing chuunibyou that is his Hell Kaiser persona. I also remember that Cyberdarkness Dragon came out years after the GX anime, and Cyberdark End Dragon is a very recent card.
The weirdest thing is that, along with these cards, there are several blank cards. I remember that in the anime, these cards would remain blank until a duelist unlocked their powers. Does this mean that, in time, I would create more powerful cards along with the ones in this deck?
Placing the deck down, I began to look for more cards in the closet, hoping to find at least some more cards to use in conjunction with the ones on the desk to make a new deck. If I were to take the entrance exam with this deck, I'll be changing the entire GX era as I know it. Before I could look any further, I grabbed the side of my head in pain as another memory played in my head.
"Do you really think that someone like you could get accepted at Duel Academy?" The voice of a male teen said as he stood over Jio, who was held onto the ground by a few other teens. His face is hidden by shadows, and he's holding Jio's deck in his hands.
Inside a teacherless classroom, the Bully and his followers held Jio down as other students in the room began laughing and mocking the teen. Some said to just get it over with, while others were calling out to take the cards for themselves. Their sadistic laughter echoing through the classroom, ringing through Jio's ears as he helplessly watched his cards be taken from him.
"As if you could become the next King of Games, especially if you have no cards to duel with!" The Bully said as he pulled a single card from the deck, and proceeded to tear the card into pieces.
A few minutes later, every single card in Jio's deck had been torn to pieces. Every Monster, Spell, and Trap Card had been destroyed at the hand's of the Bully. Tears ran down the Jio's face as he began frantically grabbing the torn cards in his hands.
The pain subsided as I pulled out a box from the closet. Opening it, I saw torn Duel Monster cards. Some had been taped back together, while the rest were torn beyond recognition. Walking back to the desk, I placed the box next to the Cyber Deck and the assortment of other cards.
Pulling out a single taped together card, and unlike the others, it was put together with more care. Every single torn piece had been gently taped together, and if the light dampness to the card signified anything, Jio was crying when he put this card back together. This was his favorite card, and the card that the bully had destroyed first.
"Gilford the Lightning…" I said as I placed the card back down into the box. While in modern Yu-Gi-Oh! this card isn't really used, but it's still known as one of Joey Wheeler's signature cards.
Those bullies tore apart Jio's deck because they were jealous of him passing the written exam, while most of them failed the exam. They wanted to get back at him for that, so they made sure that he would fail his dueling exam without him ever even taking it. I could feel it, Jio's anger and sorrow. Sorrow for not being able to save his deck, and his rage at the bullies for destroying the cards he held so dear.
Looking back at the Cyber deck, I could feel something within the deck. Telling me to use it and to let my anger out onto something. Merely looking at the deck let me feel its thirst for battle. Despite not having a completed deck, only a rushed mess of different cards, I knew that I shouldn't be using this deck.
Honestly, I'm terrified of these cards. If they were regular cards, I wouldn't be having this problem. These cards were different. They had Duel Spirits, and those spirits wanted battle, they craved carnage. I really didn't want to insert myself into the plot of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, especially since I can't really remember much past season two. Even more so with a deck that breaks the lore of this world.
However, another part of me told a different story. I also didn't want to disappoint this kid's, or rather, my parents. My new memories are filled with encouraging words and proud smiles of my new parents. I didn't even know them, but I know that it would break their hearts if I didn't get in.
Picking up my Duel Disk, which is currently leaning against the desk, I placed the Cyber deck into a Deck box strapped to my belt. I grabbed a backpack and put the Duel Disk into the main pocket, and I also put the assortment of other cards into a different pocket. With that, I left the house and made my way to the Duel Academy entrance exam, which luckily, I have memories of where the exam is taking place.
Let's just hope that I don't catch too much attention. Oh who am I kidding, with this deck, I'm bound to catch the attention of not only Zane but also Chancellor Sheppard.
~Later: Jio's POV~
When I got inside, I looked over the assortment of cards I stuffed into the backpack. While there were some decent cards in there, there was nothing to make a decent deck in a short amount of time. Even with what I know about the game, the best I could do would just be a deck of only twenty cards.
Looks like I have no other choice but to use the Cyber deck. Let's just hope that I don't have to summon any Cyberdark monster.
At least Jio, or rather I, scored rather well on the written portion of the exam. Not too high to be called a genius, and not too low to be considered a "Slacker" like Dr. Crowler would say. Right in the middle, like a mob character, something I wish I could be instead of standing out.
If I were to win the Duel, I'll be placed in Ra Yellow and hopefully not interact with Jaden or anyone from the main cast. The only one I can remember being in Ra was Bastion, and he's usually being sidelined from what I remember.
"Jio Yuhara to exam field 7. Jio Yuhara to exam field 7."
Taking a deep breath, I made my way to the exam floor. This is the moment that is going to change the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX forever. A few minutes later, I'm standing on the field with butterflies in my stomach. Skittishly checking on my Duel Disk and deck, I'm pretty nervous to be seen dueling in front of a crowd like this.
"No need to be a nervous young man, I know that quite a few examinees get nervous when they start the exam." The examiner said, as if trying to calm my nerves. "I am Professor Jonathan C. Law, Deputy Director of the Obelisk Blue dorms."
What? I don't remember there being a deputy director at ANY of the dorms. Then again, in universe, there might have been one. Just not one seen in the anime or the manga.
He's wearing what looks like a standard Obelisk Blue uniform, but it has a navy blue color than a standard blue. While his face is rather plain, his neck length blonde hair has red highlights. His eyes are a dark green, eyeing me as if calculating my level of skill.
"I-I'm Jio Yuhara." I said, giving a bow as well, still reeling from the fact that there's a deputy headmaster now. Did me getting sent here cause some kind of ripple effect in the world?
"Well then son, let's hope you lose those jitters as we begin our duel." C. Law, or better said as Claw, said as he activated his Duel Disk, which I find rather interesting.
It's like Crowler's Duel Coat, with the deck and graveyard being held in a hub strapped to his chest, and the platform is that of a standard Academy issue Duel Disk attached to a bracer-like object.
'This guy is not like Crowler, he doesn't seem too bad.' I thought to myself as I activated my own disk, drawing five cards.
Third Person POV
(Jio: 4000 LP/ Claw: 4000 LP)
"Duel!" Both Claw and Jio cried, with the latter then drawing a card from his deck.
Turn 1
Jio's Hand: Fusion Deployment, Rebirth Judgment, Cyberdark Horn, Cyber Dragon, Cyber Valley, Cyber Dragon Nachster
'Ok, not a bad hand. Let's start off with…' Jio thought to himself as he observed his drawn cards. Before he could play a card, he heard a deep growling from his left.
He froze, beginning to sweat a little. Turning his head slightly to the left, his blood goes cold when he sees the ghostly figure of the Cyberdark Horn in his hand. What Jio is seeing, he almost couldn't believe, a Duel Spirit.
"I'll start off by summoning Cyber Valley (0/0) in attack mode!" Jio said, turning his attention back to the duel. Choosing to not pay attention to the spirit next to him.
With that, a large serpent-like machine with red orbs appeared on the field, getting some talk from the examinees in the stands.
~In the Stands~
"A Cyber monster, it almost looks like one of your dragons." A beautiful blonde haired girl with hazel colored eyes said to her companion. She's wearing a standard female Obelisk Blue uniform with a pair of blue fingerless gloves that reach to her elbows.
This is Alexis Rhodes.
"It is a member of the Cyber archetype, I even have one in my deck." Her companion, a young man with long blue hair and blue eyes said. Like his companion, he is wearing a standard male Obelisk Blue uniform.
This is Zane Truesdale, the top duelist at Duel Academy.
"I've never seen him at the Cyber Art dojo, so I don't know where he got the card from." Zane said, crossing his arms as he observed Jio, gauging his skill with the archetype.
~X~
"A Cyber monster, I heard that Zane Truesdale uses the same type of cards." A blue haired, Obelisk Blue uniform wearing student with glasses said to his companions.
"Yeah, he's the best student Duel Academy has had in years. If this kid is using the same type of cards, he'll be a challenge." A spiky brown haired, also Obelisk Blue, uniformed student said as he looked back to the final member of their trio.
"Yeah right, he's just someone who's trying to copy the best duelist at the academy. Someone like that will never be a good duelist." The final member said, looking down at Jio. A teenager with wild spiky black hair and matching eyes, who spoke like he was above everyone taking the tests.
These are, in order: Taiyou Torimaki, Raizou Motoani, and Chazz Princeton.
"Well, I guess we'll need to see how good this guy is then." Raizou said as the trio turned their attention back to the duel.
~X~
"Next I'll activate the effect of my Cyber Dragon Nachster from my hand!" Jio said, shocking the observing proctors, Claw, Alexis, and Zane in the stands. "I'll discard one monster, and I can special summon it from my hand."
With that, Jio discarded Cyber Dragon and Nachster appeared on the field in defense mode.
Cyber Dragon Nachster (200/200)
"And then I'll activate its second effect. When it's Normal/Special Summoned, I can Special Summon a machine monster in my graveyard with 2100 ATK or DEF." Jio said as a card was sent out of his graveyard, and he then grabbed it.
"So I'll Special Summon Cyber Dragon (2100/1600) in attack mode!" Jio said as the serpent-like machine appeared on his field, shocking everyone even more.
"I'll set one card face down, and then end my turn." With that, Jio set Rebirth Judgment and of course, ended his turn.
Turn 2
"Color me impressed. The best student at the academy uses the same cards." Claw said as he drew his sixth card. "I'll start off by summoning my Red Gadget (1300/1500) in defense mode."
'Being Deputy Director at Obelisk Blue would mean that he's Crowler's right hand man, so using Gadgets makes sense. The Gadgets and Ancient Gears are related to one another.' Jio thought to himself as the red colored machine appeared on the field.
"With my little friend here on the field, I can add Yellow Gadget to my hand." Claw said as the card popped out of the piece on his chest. "Next I'll activate the spell card Double Summon."
"I'll use this to summon my Yellow Gadget (1200/1200) in defense mode." Claw said as the yellow machine appeared on his field. "And like his companion, I can add Green Gadget to my hand."
"Now I'll activate the effect of a monster in my hand. Since I control two Gadget monsters, I can Special Summon Boot-Up Corporal- Command Dynamo (0/2000) in attack mode." With that, Claw summoned a large blue and gray gadget-like monster with what appeared to be wheels to his side of the field.
"Next I'll activate the next part in my Command Dynamo's effect. My two gadget's are equipped to him, and then he gains 1000 ATK for each equipped gadget monster." Claw said as his red and yellow machine monsters attached themselves to Dynamo's wheels.
Boot-Up Corporal- Command Dynamo (2000/2000)
"I'll set one card face down, and then end my turn." Claw said as he slid a card into his spell/trap zone.
Turn 3
'This guy is good, he's using the effects of the Gadgets to swarm his field with strong monsters. I don't think that this is his real deck, it must have been given to him by Crowler, which he then modified in order to duel students' Jio thought to himself, remembering that Crowler used his real deck when he first dueled Jaden at the start of the series.
"My move then, I draw!" Jio said, taking the top card from his deck. "I'll activate the Spell Card, Cyber Emergency." With that, a card with the image of a jet appeared on the field.
"And I'll use its effect to add one "Cyber Dragon" monster to my hand from my deck." Jio said as he took his deck from his duel disk, and looked for the right card, then shuffled his deck before putting it back in.
"Then I'll summon the Cyber Dragon Core (400/1500) I added to my hand in defense mode." Jio said as a thin worm like machine appeared on his field. "Then I'll use its effect to add a "Cyber" Spell/Trap from my deck to my hand."
Once more, Jio took out his deck and looked for the card that could help him in the duel. After choosing the card, he then redid the process of shuffling his deck once more.
"Now I'll play the Quick-Play Spell Cyberload Fusion." Jio said as the spell card with the image of three Cyber Dragons appeared on the field.
"With this card, I can Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster that lists Cyber Dragon as material by shuffling cards on the field or that are banished back into my deck." Jio said as Claw looked on in confusion.
"You only have one Cyber Dragon on the field… unless your other monsters are also counted as Cyber Dragons while face-up on the field." Claw said, before realizing the effects of Jio's lower leveled machine monsters.
"You're right about that, so by shuffling my Core and Nachster back into my deck, I'll bring forth the twin headed machine of destruction." Jio said as his machine dragons disappeared, and as shock grew on Claw's face.
"Come forth, Cyber Twin Dragon (2800/2100)!" Jio cried as a large machine with a serpent like body with two long necks and different heads appeared behind the duelist.
'I could've summoned Cyber End Dragon, but a monster that can attack twice per turn is more useful. Plus, it would draw less attention from Zane, who I know was given that card for being the best student at the Cyber Art Dojo.' Jio thought to himself as the people watching the duel were in awe of the Fusion Monster.
~In the Stands~
"He really does have cards similar to mine, not to mention the same monsters. Even some that I've never even heard of." Zane said, though his calm tone made it hard to tell how he truly felt about it.
'I've never seen another duelist with the same cards as Zane. I can tell this guy is gonna make a big impact on campus.' Alexis thought as her gaze never left the duel.
~Back to the Duel~
"Now my dragon, attack his Dynamo and then attack him directly, Evolution Twin Burst!" Jio said as his dragon let out twin blasts of golden energy at Claw's monster.
The first blast hit, dropping Claw's life points.
Claw: 3200 LP
"Before your second attack can land its target, I'll activate my face down card Powerhold the Moving Battery." Claw said as his card flipped up, revealing a trap card.
"I can special summon this card as a level 4 monster with 0 ATK and 2000 DEF, and then equip a level 4 or lower machine "Gadget" monster from my hand to this card." Claw said as a bulky grayish blue monster with a cannon appeared on his field.
Powerhold the Moving Battery (0/2000)
"So by equipping my Gold Gadget from my hand, Powerhold gains attack points equal to double that of the monster equipped to it." Claw finished as the gold colored gadget appeared on the trap monster's chest, increasing its attack points.
Powerhold the Moving Battery (3400/2000)
The moving battery aimed its cannon and fired a blue beam of energy, clashing with the machine dragon's attack. The trap monster's attack began to push back the Fusion Monsters attack. It did until the attack finally tore through the mechanized dragon's own, destroying it and dealing a small amount of damage to Jio.
Jio: 3400 LP
"I'll change my monsters into defense mode, and then end my turn." Jio said, as his machines coiled themselves into a defensive position.
Turn 4
"I draw, and then activate the spell Card of Sanctity! Now we both draw until we have six cards in our hands." Claw said, first drawing his turn card, and following after by playing his spell and drawing five cards while Jio drew four.

"I'll start by summoning my Green Gadget (1400/600) in attack mode." Claw said as he summoned his green colored machine. "And then play the continuous spell card Boot-up Order - Gear Charge."
"Let me explain, I can target any number of "Gadget" monsters equipped to monsters, and then I can special summon them." Claw said as he slipped the card into his disk, and his Gold Gadget was summoned. Leaving his trap monster with no attack points.

Powerhold the Moving Battery (0/2000)
"Now my golden machine's effect activates, when it's Normal/Special Summoned, I can special summon a level 4 machine monster from my hand. So say hello to my Ancient Gear Gadget (500/2000) in defense mode." Claw said as a rather clunky looking gadget appeared on the field.
"Now my newly summoned monster's effect activates. I can declare a card type, and then you cannot activate the effects of the declared card type until the end of the damage step. I declare monster effects!" Claw said as his defense position Gadget raised its hands to activate its effect.
'He must've declared monster because he knows of Cyber Valley's effect.' Jio thought as Claw then sent a card from his hand to the graveyard.
"Now by discarding a card, I'll activate the second effect of my spell card. This allows me to add Boot-Up Admiral - Destroyer Dynamo to my hand." Claw said as he took out his deck, took out a single card, and then reshuffled his deck before placing it back.
"Now by sending two "Gadget" monsters from my field or hand to the graveyard, I can special summon the Boot-Up Admiral - Destroyer Dynamo (2500/2500) in attack mode." Claw said as his Green Gadget and Gold Gadget disappeared, leaving a giant blue machine on the field.
"I'll activate the Admiral's effect to destroy your Cyber Dragon with his Buster Call!" Claw said as his giant raised its right foot, and unleashed an earthshaking stomp. Creating a powerful shock wave that shook the field and destroyed the mechanical dragon.
"Now Destroyer Dynamo, destroy his Cyber Valley, Demolition Fist!" Claw cried as his giant machine monster raised its right arm, and brought it down on the remaining mechanical dragon.
"First I'll change Moving Battery to defense mode, then I'll set one card face down, and end my turn." Claw said as his trap monster took a defensive stance, and then a face down card appeared in front of him.
'Considering the fact that he uses Gadgets, that face down is most likely something to protect equipped cards, or something else like a trap monster.' Jio thought to himself as he began to reach for the top card of his deck.
Turn 5
"I draw!" Jio said as he took the top card from his deck, and summon Cyber Dragon Zwei (1500/1000) in attack mode!" Jio said as a green glowing serpent-like machine appeared on the field.
"Now I'll activate Pot of Greed, drawing two cards." Jio said as a green pot with a disturbing smile appeared on his field. Drawing the cards, the young duelist froze as he saw the cards he just drew.
Cyberdark Edge and Cyberdark Keel. Turning his head, a spiritual body of Keel was on his right, and one of Edge was above him. Along with Horn, Jio was surrounded by three duel spirits.
'I can feel it, their thirst for battle. They crave destruction. They want victory…' Jio thought to himself as everything seemed to fade around him. All that he could see were the Cyberdarks in his hands.
"I activate my face down card, Rebirth Judgment." Jio said, though his voice and actions are not his own. Try as he might, the reincarnated duelist cannot break out of this trance.
"By discarding a card, I can change the type of all monsters in our graveyard." Jio said, sending Core to the graveyard. "Now all monsters in our graveyard are dragon monsters."
'Dragon monsters, considering the monsters you're using, I would've assumed machine monsters. Though that brings a good point, why would he change the monsters in our graveyard to dragons.' Claw thought to himself, not noticing the change in demeanor in Jio.
"Now I'll activate the spell card Power Bond!" Jio said, playing the card into his duel disk. His voice now is not his own, a darker presence is there within him. It began to take over the duelist, imprisoning the reincarnate within his own body.
~In the Stands~
"Why would he play Power Bond when he changed the monsters in the graveyard to dragons?" Alexis thought out loud, not knowing what Jio plans to fuse together.
"If he has more Cyber Dragons in his hand, he might try Twin Dragon or End Dragon. Though, that does bring up the question. What machine monster requires dragon monsters in the graveyard?" Zane asked, beginning to wonder what Jio plans to summon.
"Whatever he plans to do, he has to get over Claw's Destroyer Dynamo to win" Alexis said, with Zane silently nodding his head in agreement.
~X~
"This kid's been doing good, don't you agree Chazz?" Taiyou asked, with Raizou nodding in agreement.
"Tch, if you're impressed that easy, then you're never gonna be a good duelist. This kid is nothing but a rookie who's trying to play with the big boys." Chazz said, his lips curled in disdain at the glasses wearing duelist below.
"Well he played a pretty powerful card. So he has to have something planned." Raizou said, with Chazz scoffing is disagreement.
"Whatever it is, it must have something to do with him changing every monster in their graveyard into dragon monsters." Taiyou said, trying to figure out what Jio's plan was.
~Back to the Duel~
"So by fusing my Cyberdark Horn, Cyberdark Edge, and Cyberdark Keel. I can bring out an even greater monster." Jio said, the corruption in his voice becoming even more clearer than before. Though, no one seemed to notice this change.
The dark machine monsters appeared on the field, before merging together. Creating a large mass of smoke on the field.
"Forged in the depths of the underworld…" Jio said as Claw began to take a few steps back in shock.
~In the Stands~
"Hey Zane, what are the chances you've heard of the Cyberdarks before." Alexis asked, taking a step back. Not knowing why, but her body seemed to move on its own. As if trying to flee from the monster being summoned.
"I've heard of them before, they're a forbidden deck within the Cyber Art style of dueling. So why does he have them?" Zane said in shock, a small amount of sweat began to form on his brow.
"Who feeds upon the mightiest of dragons…"
~X~
"Hey Chazz, what is that!?" Taiyou said, as he and Raizou fell out of their seats in shock at what they were seeing.
"I don't know, I've never heard of those types of monsters before, let alone what they fuse into." Chazz said, as he began to sweat
"I call upon the darkest of machines…"
~Back to the Duel~
'What is he summoning!? I've seen plenty of Cyber cards while here at Duel Academy, but nothing on the Cyberdarks-' Claw thought as a pair of glowing eyes glared at him through the smoke.
"Raise hell, Cyberdark Dragon (1000/1000)!" Jio screamed as the smoke suddenly disappeared, leaving a giant monstrous machine in its place. It let out a roar, which shook the entire stadium, shaking light fixtures, and even knocking people out of their seats and onto the floor.
"With my dragon being fused by Power Bond, it gains attack points equal to its original attack points." Jio-no, Cyberdark Dragon itself said through its duelist.
Cyberdark Dragon (2000/1000)
"Now I'll activate its effect, I can equip one dragon monster from my graveyard to my dragon. So my dragon, feed upon Cyber Twin Dragon, Soul Drain!" Jio said as he took out the corresponding card from his graveyard.
Cyber Twin Dragon appeared beneath the dark machine, before it was grabbed by the claws of the dark Fusion Monster. It let out a cry as its power was being added into the monstrous machine.
"Cyber Twin Dragon's attack points are now added to my dragon's own. Raising its attack to 4800!" Jio said as the machine let out a roar of power, shaking the whole exam area once more.
"Good lord, that thing's attack points are almost double that of my Destroyer Dynamo!" Claw said in shock as he took a few steps back from the monster on the field.
"It gets even better, my dragon gains 100 ATK for every monster card in my graveyard, and I count six." Jio said as the Fusion Monster began to glow as its attack points were raised more.

"Now I'll activate Limiter Removal from my hand. So now all machine monsters on my field have their attack points doubled." Jio said as it slipped a card into his duel disk, and his monsters began to glow, indicating their rising attack points.

Claw tried to say something, but was unable to say anything out of shock from the amount of attack points that the Fusion Monster has.
"Now Cyberdark Dragon, attack Destroyer Dynamo and end the duel. Full Darkness Burst!" Jio said as the monster card opened its mouth, and unleashed a stream of black fire from its jaws at the machine monster.
In retaliation, Destroyer Dynamo attempted to match the attack with its fist, but was pushed back. The attack pierced through the machine monster, and destroyed it, winning the duel for Jio.
Claw: -5000 LP
Winner: Jio Yuhara
With that, the duel was over. Freeing Jio from the control of Cyberdark Dragon. The duelist regained control, and began to look around in confusion. Not knowing what had happened.
"Huh, the duel's over, what happened?" Jio wondered out loud, looking at all the shocked looks of the students in the stands. He then turned his attention to Claw, who was walking towards the young duelist.
"I must say, in all my time here at Duel Academy, I have never met someone with such a fearsome monster." Claw said as he stood in front of the young reincarnate.
"You planned to summon it from the beginning, and played your cards right to win the duel. So congratulations, welcome to Duel Academy." Claw said as he extended his hand to Jio.
"Um, thank you. Though, I don't think that I would win against your real deck." Jio said, as he shook hands with the professor. He didn't know how he won, only remembering drawing Cyberdark Edge and Keel. The events after that were a blur.
"We'll just have to see, this deck was actually a gift by the Headmaster of the Obelisk Blue dorm. Though, I changed it to duel with students, and he was not happy about that." Claw said with a chuckle, remembering the look on Crowler's face when he saw the modified deck.
"Then I hope to duel you again, Professor Claw." Jio said, before immediately closing his mouth shut at calling the professor a nickname. The teacher merely let out a sigh, before rubbing his forehead.
"That nickname is just never going away. We've barely met and you knew to call me that." Claw said with a tired sigh, before ushering Jio off of the field to prepare for the next applicant.
~Later: Jio's POV~
Luckily, I didn't meet Jaden or anyone else after my duel with Claw. Unfortunately, I made my deck known as the forbidden cards within the Cyber Art Style of dueling. Now I'm going to be on Zane and Sheppard's radar for the remainder of my time at Duel Academy.
It felt worth it though, seeing the look on my new parent's faces after telling them that I passed the exam and would be attending Duel Academy. My mother cried tears of joy, and my father pulled all of us into a large hug. It felt… nice. These people aren't my real parents, but at the same time they are. I can feel the love and warmth they're giving me.
After a celebratory dinner and a quick bath, I'm sitting at my desk in my room. Overlooking my Cyber deck, I felt connected to these cards, more than them just being my spirit partners. Something connecting us on a deeper level, like whatever they feel I can feel, and vice versa.
"You all brought me here, didn't you?" I asked the three Cyberdarks and their fusion as they laid on the desk. They said nothing in return, as if they're simply ignoring me or are just unwilling to speak to me.
While I don't know how I got here, I know that they brought me here. Or at the very least they have something to do with me being here, and I think I know why. They brought me here to satisfy their thirst for battle, to be their envoy, their avatar during duels. What happened during my duel with Professor Claw is proof of this, after drawing the necessary cards, they possessed me and summoned Cyberdark Dragon.
That only left a few more questions unanswered. Why did they choose me? Are there other people reincarnated to satisfy the needs of other Duel Monster Spirits? How did they get Cyberdarkness Dragon and Cyberdark End Dragon when they weren't shown to be in the world of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime?
Another big question is the blank cards. I remember them being in 5D's when Yusei and Jack unlocked more powerful forms of Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend respectively. Does that mean I'll unlock different versions of Cyber Dragon, the Chimeratech, and Cyberdarks too?
Whatever this all means, I know I'll find the answers during my time at Duel Academy. Whether I'm dragged into the plot, or stay as a side character, I hold the knowledge and the cards to change the course of Yu-Gi-Oh! as I remember it. The big question I'm facing is… do I try and stop Sartorius, Viper, Yubel, and Nightshroud before the main cast gets tied up with them? Or should I stay back and only duel when necessary, leaving them to fend for themselves?
Yes, I'm still alive. I know that it's been a while since I uploaded/updated a story here, but I'm back. I've been brainstorming for the past few years, and I've got a new line-up of stories that I'm currently working on.
What pushed this story to be published first was the passing of Kazuki Takahashi. That man created the very first anime series that I'd ever seen, along with a franchise that I hold near and dear to my heart.
I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of The Reluctant Duelist. Also I know, "A self-insert isekai fic, there's plenty of those!" Yes there are, but most of them all feel the same. With either the OC changing the story for their own benefit, them trying to stay out of the story but end up failing, or they replace Jaden all together.
I'm gonna try to make my own twist with an OC who's reluctant to insert himself, but is also dragged headfirst into the main story of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. I'm going to write out some original arcs and Jio's arrival to Yu-Gi-Oh! GX world will create a ripple effect that will definitely change the course of history.
I know this chapter slightly contradicts what I wrote in the previous paragraph, but bare with me. Jio was sent into the world of GX on the day of the entrance exams. Usually stories have the OC reincarnated a few years before the start of the series, or have them already in Duel Academy. Here, Jio was put into a situation in which he was forced to use a deck that will change the course of the GX era. Let me know what you all think of this, I'm always open for feedback.
