Majima believed that he had gotten used to seeing Kiryu leave him over and over again. Ever since he ended up ten years in prison for Dojima's murder which he didn't committed, the feeling of his absence is something that has always weighed heavily on Majima and yet he wants to believe that he has somehow gotten used to the pain because he accepts that the two of them has their own issues to worry about and it's completely normal for men with lives like theirs.

However, this time it felt different.

Usually, when Kiryu returns from whatever had him in jail or busy in another city —wether it was because he wanted to stay away from Kamurocho or needed to protect his identity— Kiryu stays by his side. Well, not explicitly by his side, but since he must return to Kamurocho for something in particular he usually stays a little longer and Majima gets to see him or at least hear in the streets that the Dragon of Dojima is back. Sometimes, if he's lucky enough, he is able to share a few words and a drink with him.

And that's why this time it's so painful to see that he can't even talk to Kiryu himself when it seems that he must hide his identity again, also being as stubborn as he always is.

The whole situation feels specially sour for Majima because he hasn't seen Kiryu or at least heard from him in a long time, and ever since he, Saejima and Daigo had to hide when the stability of the Tojo Clan took a sixty-degree turn, he has felt more distanced from Kiryu than ever, and that considering that the news of his death didn't affected him because Majima never quite believed them; he knew the man well enough to interpret it as a lie —even if he didn't exactly knew if it were his instincts or his feelings telling him this.

But it's the way Kiryu has to pretend he doesn't even recognize him, or how he has to stay away from the people he loves to protect them, which makes Majima feel emptier than ever without him.

And ever since he heard the rumor or Kiryu's death, as much as he didn't believed it, he would be lying if he said that the idea of that being real didn't crossed his mind. He tries to examine that possibility in his head and always ends up going into denial because he can't contemplate his current life without all that Kiryu has given him. Besides, he knows the man well enough to know that, like a naive, if the possibility of dying will be presented in front of him, he would accept his fate and say goodbye to him as if it wasn't the saddest thing that ever happened to Majima in a long time.

It's things like this that make him miserable when he thinks of Kiryu and how much he wishes he could be by his side right now, mourning every day of his life about how much he is able to love and hate the man at the same time.
