If someone had told Weiss over a year ago that she would end up stuck in another world, she would've called them insane and perhaps insult them to their face, and behind their back. Now? Now she was living proof that other worlds did exist, worlds that were vastly different from her own.
A world without Grimm? That was every huntsman and huntress's dream, except there was one problem. Instead of Grimm, these people had Endbringers, which were much more powerful than any single Grimm, except maybe Salem, who she definitely didn't mention. Weiss was sure that the two 'heroes' weren't mentioning everything, so she held back as well. Not exactly lying per say, just holding back a few details or omitting some facts.
"You mentioned aura, could you explain what that is in more detail?" Armsmaster asked, his eyes focused on the scroll in his hands. The armored man was hungry for knowledge, and reminded Weiss of those Atlesian specialists that Father would 'request' to help defend an important shipment from the White Fang.
"Aura is the manifestation of one's soul, and since Grimm don't have souls, they don't have aura." Weiss said boredly, her voice on guard. "The strength of a person's aura varies, and along with Dust, helped humanity to fight back against the Grimm hordes."
"Dust, those canisters that we found on you, is that dust-" Armsmaster said as soon as she finished speaking.
"I believe it's my turn to ask a question." Weiss said dryly, giving the man that looked like General Ironwood a glare. Was it the beard? Most likely, though the General was a much nicer person.
"Ask away." Miss Militia entered the conversation. She spoke up every few questions, but she mainly remained outside of Weiss' question and answer with Armsmaster.
"Why do you hide your faces?" The only people that wore masks back on Remnant, as far as Weiss was aware, were criminals like the White Fang and Raven Branwen. Sure Atlesian soldiers wore helmets that covered the top of their heads, but that wasn't the same as Miss Militia's bandana which offered literally no protection without aura.
"Most people appreciate having their personal lives kept separate from their cape lives, and it serves as a protection for our friends and families." Miss Militia said, her voice still warm. "Most criminals claim that it's due to the unwritten rules, though they only apply them when it suits their needs. The PRT and Protectorate try to play along to keep the peace."
Weiss didn't like that answer, it sounded like this world was full of cowards, or was she being callous? Being a Schnee meant that she always had a target on her back, being the victim of more than a few assasination attempts.
"Hm, very well." Weiss shrugged. Who was she to judge these people's strange customs? Besides, she needed to get on their good side so she could find out where Mrytenaster was.
Armsmaster spoke up again. "Now about that dust…"
Weiss had a feeling that this conversation was going to take a while.
"What are you thinking, Emily?" Chief Director Costa-Brown's voice was blunt and straight to the point. They were currently watching the livestream from Armsmaster's helmet, along with Dragon. The Chief Director wanted a representative from the Guild present, especially if Schnee proved herself to be a threat.
"If she's telling the truth about leaving her home to fight monsters, then I'd say she's an exemplary person, and would be a fine addition to the Protectorate." Emily answered honestly. "Though, I really doubt someone sane would do the same in her position."
"Some people are born with an innate sense of heroism, not being able to stand still when they see injustice." Dragon added, her avatar visible in the top right corner of the screen.
"Either way, she's a child soldier." Emily said bluntly. "Training to kill monsters since she was a little girl? Their whole society seems to be based around survival." At least she wasn't a parahuman, they were all broken in some shape or fashion.
"That means the people of Earth Remnant are resilient, and they could prove to be an asset should we find the reason Miss Schnee ended up here." Director Costa-Brown spoke up, her tanned face serious. "Try to recruit her, but don't push her. If Schnee can train others to unlock their aura, then she shall be considered the second coming of Scion."
Soldiers that weren't broken mentally and emotionally that could stand up to capes? That would and could change everything, and change the power balance between the PRT and the gangs.
"I'll have an offer drafted." Emily finally, her steel gray eyes turning to the screen with the Chief Director.
"Good, send me a copy of their discussion once its concluded." Chief Director Costa-Brown smiled, a rarity. "And arrange for her lodgings, the funds have already been allocated."
"Yes Ma'am." Emily nodded politely.
"Oh, and Emily, don't f* this up."
With that, only Dragon and Emily were left watching the stream with the white haired girl. Emily had no doubt that the girl was dangerous, she could see it in her eyes.
Hopefully she was telling the truth.
After what felt like a couple hours, Armsmaster and Miss Militia finally left to let her rest, promising that dinner would be sent soon. Weiss didn't care, she didn't feel like eating anything despite the grumbling that came from her stomach.
Her mind was racing, and she could feel her body start to shake as soon as the door closed behind the two 'heroes'. Heh, heroes, real heroes didn't exist. Anyone who called themselves a hero didn't deserve the title, in Weiss' opinion at least.
Now Ruby, Ruby was a true hero, with her beautiful silver eyes. Weiss failed in holding back another sob as the full weight of the world crushed her.
She would never see Winter again, her beloved older sister who captured everything wanted to be, and Klein, the man who treated her more like a daughter than Father ever did.
And the rest of her team, Blake, Yang, Ruby, she didn't get the chance to say goodbye. Weiss failed them, did they think she was dead? Did they move on?
Weiss' arms fell to her side weakly as she finally managed to get her breathing under control. Her dry lips parted slightly, as her hoarse singing voice filled the room, not caring if those guarding her outside were listening in.
"I never felt that it was wise to wish too much…"
Weiss felt cold.
A/N
This came out faster than expected because I accidently updated two stories in one day yesterday. The Schnee: Hero or Huntress chapter was supposed to be released today.
And I decided to include Weiss' singing, it won't be as much as H or H, but it'll be there to add some flavor.
