The plan was simple: sneak onto the ship at night. Take out the crew before anyone knew we were there. But nothing ever goes as planned.
Mordred found herself lying in a pile of rubble, battered and bruised 'this is bad' she thinks. Looking up, she could see one of her companions lifeless body about to be thrown overboard. "No!!!"
-ten hours earlier-
Mordred's eyes open as she begins another day, saying goodbye to Mara was bittersweet but she needed to go home to her family. 'guess I better get up' she thinks to herself, she hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since she woke up at Doc's shack. nightmares seem to plague her unconscious mind, but they always involve the same woman.
downstairs Shiro had his staff cooking breakfast for everyone. Mordred could smell the meat all the way down the stairs. "It's definitely time to get up". With that thought, she sat up and stretched herself out. After getting dressed, she headed downstairs. Her stomach was rumbling along the way. She could see Shiro over by the bar. 'Of course he's drinking. What did I expect at this point?' she starts making her way over to the bar "I can't believe how fast your body is healing. I'd say by tomorrow you won't even have a scar." said Shiro. Mordred sat next to him "yeah i noticed that, even the scar on my stomach is slowly disappearing" she looks down at what used to be a scar stretching from her sternum to her navel "it does make me wonder how I got it though and how long ago that was"
the two where broke from their conversation by Samuel materializing out of Shiro's shadow "ok how do you do that?"asked Mordred looking at him with a bit of annoyance she continues "popping up out of nowhere" Samuel just laughs and replies "i ate the shade shade fruit so now im a shade man" he emphasizes this by sinking back into Shiros shadow and materializes out of hers "as long as im close enough i can pass through other peopls shadows"
Mordred seemed amazed by this, people had told her of the devil fruit, but to see one in action was another thing altogether. "So devil fruits are real?" she wondered if she might be a user as well. Samuel continued to talk "and the next most power type is the paramecia" she wonders off in her thoughts again 'it might explain that power up i got a few days ago' her thoughts returned to the gauntlet and how the power felt angry and heavy. shes snapped out of her musings by Samuel mentioning a man known as the pirate king "the navy called him Gold Rodgers, the man conquered the entire ocean without the need of any devil fruit" mordred is a little shocked that pirates would even have the title of king "well what happened to him? you make him seem like a real badass" mordred asked Samuel thinking for a moment replys"i guess there is no easy answer to that" putting his hand up to his chin he continues "but the short answer it, the world government had him executed for being a free man"
"so he was killed for being free? that seems a little backwards if you ask me" breakfast arrived, the three of tgem were handed a plat before the rest was hauled upstairs to the others. shiro speaks up "well if you want total control, an idea like freedom is something you wouldn't want wide spread" he stops and takes a bit "Gold Roger became an icon of freedom so he became a threat" intrigued more now Mordred interrupted Shiro "so your saying that nobody is free" he chuckled a little before relying "no im saying who is more free than the king of the pirate?"
Mordred remembers part of one of her dreams: a blond lady glaring at her menacingly, saying, "You don't deserve to be a king." She continued, "You don't even deserve a seat at my council anymore." The woman grew to the size of a mountain and went to stomp on Mordred.
She snapped out of it, now with a determined look on her face. "Well, I guess that means one thing." The other two stopped eating and looked at her. "After we take out Yellow Belly, I'm going to be the next Pirate King." the others at the table were all struck with her sense of determinatio. Shiro spoke "do you mean the pirate queen?" Mordred seemed just a little agitated by the remark "so because im a girl i cant be a king? im just as strong as any boy" she said in a matter of fact tone, she eyeballs the others "you guys want to join my crew?" she asked with a playful tomboy grin "currently i dont have anyone" Samuel was the first to respond "as much as i appreciate the offer, im afraid i have obligations here" he motions with his hands up the stairs "if i leave nobody would be able to keep them in line" obviously referring to his siblings. shiro was next "im not much for sailing" he stops and taps the bar with a finger in thinking form "but i tell you what if you do beat Yellow Belly, i will personally fund your crew. i have traid lines all over the world"
before anyone else could say anything a ringing sound started from behind the counter, shiro stands "ah the snail-phone" starting to move towards it he continues"im expecting an important call"
Samuel looks back at Mordred "you serious about becoming king?" mordred with no hesitation replys "you bet. fighting the evil authority, sticking it to the man. it seems like the life for me" Samuel interrupted her "pirates steal and murder and pillage, i dont see that being something you want. so i ask again, are you sure?" Mordred contemplating it deeply replays "i will just have to stop the bad pirates as well i guess, nobody should pick on the little people"
Samuel with a sense of relief seems happy with her answers but before he could comment Shiro walks over "ive got bad news guys"
It had been several hours since they got the news, the enemy was almost a full day ahead of schedule, Shiro sent everyone out to gather any supplies and equipment that might be needed to make the raid go over smoothly. Mordred found herself at a clothing store, she needed something that would hold up better than the torn and dirty clothes she had. So far she wasn't having the best luck. Everything is either too big or the material was too weak. She was about to give up when she saw it, an outfit that seemed made for her. A red leather captain's jacket with a black leather sailor's cap. "Score!" she said excitedly. Now she had to find a top and some shorts. After a few more minutes, she had her entire outfit: a black leather top with straps, a black leather skirt with red accents. Lucky for her, Shiro had a tab at the store. All she had to do was name-drop.
As the sun began to set, everyone started to meet at the docks. Samuel had already been there when Mordred arrived. He had been getting the small ship ready for them to depart, and was finally putting the finishing touches on it. He had painted it all black to blend in with the darkness of night. Mordred stood on the dock, examining his handiwork. "So that's going to be our ride, huh?" she said. shocked to suddenly hear a voice. Samuel spun around. "Oh, it's you. About to spook the life out of me." He looked over her new outfit. "You definitely look like a pirate now." Mordred grinned, taking it as a compliment. At that time, the rest showed up.
Like normal, they were fighting over something trivial other than the girl. She looked over at Mordred, taking in his new look: "Well, aren't you something special?" Mordred looked at her; she was dressed in Western attire that most people she had met wore, but with pink frills and accents. Her hair was a deep orange and was mostly tucked under her hat, with freckles under both eyes and on the bridge of her nose. "I don't think I introduced myself. My name is Jessica, but everyone calls me Jess." She reached out her hand for a shake, and Mordred did the same. "Nice to meet you. I'm Mordred." Glancing over at the other three arguing, she asked, "How do you put up with them? I'd probably go crazy!"
"It isn't that bad, besides family should look out for each other. I'm sure you understand that sentiment." Jess was looking over at her brother's with a relaxed expression, Mordred didn't say anything to that but in her head she knew she didn't understand. She only had days worth of memories and none had any family; her dreams might have clues to that, but it's always terrifying. "Are you okay?" Mordred was snapped out of her thoughts by Jess. "You looked a little sad for a moment." Giving a fake half-smile, she replied, "Oh, no. I'm fine. I just have a lot on my mind."
The two talked until Samuel finally finished, "Well, boys and girls, our ride is ready." Everyone looks at the stealthy ship, amazed at how well it looks considering the short time frame. "Well, let's go." Mordred says with an upbeat tone. Everyone climbs in, and the boat is sailed off.
-a few hours later-
By the time the crew made it, the sun was completely gone. The only bit of light was that of lamps off in the distance; a sign that they were close. "Okay, so it's my turn." Samuel disappeared into the blackness, his part being difficult but he was the only one who could do it. He poked his head out of a shadow, one of the pirates having fallen asleep on duty, giving him the perfect opportunity to strike. he snuck up and drove a dagger into the lung of the sleeping man, twisting it until he bled out. "That's one down." He pulled out a flint and steel, leaning them over the side, and sparks it. It wasn't much light, but it was enough to signal the others.
"Okay, that's our cue," said Jess as the stealthy crew made their way to the pirate ship. "Tommy, make sure to have those charges ready. Once the raid is over, we need to be able to blow the ship sky-high."
When they got close enough, Mordred was ready for her part. She had to jump aboard and fine the captain. "Okay, I'm up next." She said, jumping over the railing. When she landed, she saw Samuel slitting the throat of another unsuspecting victim. He glanced at Mordred and held up three fingers: 'He already got three of them? Damn!' She thought before darting for the upper cabin. She reached out and grabbed the handle, but before she could pull it, it flew open, knocking her down. "Who the hell drank my rum?!?!" A tall, fat man barged in yelling, "Nobody drinks my booze but me!!!"
The man looked down to see her sitting on her rear end. "That's me... but who are you!" He swung his large fist downward. Mordred with lightning-fast reaction speed jumped out of the way, drawing her sword and swinging it at his face. "I saved you the trouble of coming to me!" She said. Yellow Belly caught her sword and looked her dead in the eye "oh so you're that bar girl Crusher told me about" he looked her up and down "don't look like much to me, maybe a midnight snack"
mordred was in shock, that swing was supposed to take of his head. 'he caught it?' she thought, before she could react she was tossed away, her back slammed into the mast of the ship so hard the wood cracked. her eyes and mouth opened with alook of agony as as she spit out blood, 'this is bad' she thought.
Samuel had just finished of number for when he heard it "Who the hell drank my rum?!?!" he looks over to see Yellow Belly standing over mordred. thinking fast he start to run towards the two but was interrupted by a large hammer swinging at him "got ya!!" it was Chrsher. Samuel was barely able to dodge under it. he pulled his flintlock and aimed at his head "no i got you" he pulled the trigger the bullet flew through the air flying at its target, Samuel was sure that was the end of it but before it hit... Crusher caught it between his teeth and smiled. "i think this is yours," he said. He spat the bullet back at Samuel, sending it through his left shoulder. He grunted in pain and sank into the shadows.
Mordred landed on her feet and readied herself for the next attack, her opponent didn't make her wait long and he was back on the offense. he jumped at her faster than he should be able to move "black headbutt" he said as his bold head seemed to coat itself with black iron. Mordred sidestepped hus lunge and slashed at him as he flew by but her blade made a clink noise and bounced off.
-flashback-
"We need to strike while they're still in open water. The captain can't use his ability if it means sinking his own ship." Jimmy was adding his two cents when Tommy interrupted, "I agree with you, but attacking in broad daylight with no cover? I don't see that ending well." Jimmy spoke up again, "That's why we do it at night?" Everyone stopped and contemplated. The idea was crazy, but it just might work. Samuel was next to speak, "Well, I happen to be in possession of a fishing boat." He took a shot and continued, "What if I paint it black? It would be virtually invisible."
Mordred had been listening to the conversation but something was on her mind "if he cant spit acid he should be a sitting duck, so thats a win right?" Jess spoke up "actually from what ive heard he only recently gained his powers, he was a dangerous threat long before he ever had em"
Mordred continues "well if things go wrong i might need backup"
-back to the present-
Mordreds sword clanks on his skin yet again "what the hell are you made of?" she swings in again, Yellow Belly laughs and swats away her blade "what.. have you never heard of haki? well, that means your shit out of luck" he swung his fist faster than Mordred could react, she closed her eyes readying herself for the impact when a gunshots could be heard. opening her eyes she could see yellow belly jumping back holding his hand. Jess was standing at the edge of the ship with her rifle shouldered and smoke rolling from the barrel. "I've heard of it you s.o.b."
Samuel was in a tight spot. Every move he made seemed useless, and now he had to deal with the remaining two members of the crew. "So, what exactly is your power?" Samuel directed the question at Crusher. He grinned in a devilish way. "Well, wouldn't you like to know?" He held his hand out, and bubbles began to fall from his palm. "Okay, everyone, stand back and let me handle this." The rest of the crew stepped back as the rate at which he made bubbles increased. "You want to know what I can do? Why not touch one of these and see what happens?" Samuel sunk into the shadows. When he reappeared, he was behind Crusher, ready to stab him. But before he could, one of the bubbles made contact with his duster. A giant explosion sent him flying into the railing of the ship. 'Great!' he thought.
Mordred and Jess had their hands full, the captain was proving to be a force to be reckoned with, "tommy needs to hurry up. we are getting our ass's kicked" Jess was hurrying trying to reload her rifle as Mordred kleas trying to keep his attention. "thats right over here big guy"
taunt dodge rinse repeat, this repeated a few times each time she narrowly avoided getting slammed with his first. "i bet one of those would hurt" she said as she jumped over another punch. "why dont you just hold still and let me hit you?" he seemed aggravated "you're worse than trying to swat fly" he kicked at her this time "now let me squish you little fly" Mordreds feet never made it to the ground when his monster sized boot made contact with her chest, she was sent flying into the captains cabin landing in the ruble that now lay all over the floor, she was unconscious. Jess had just finished loading when Yellow Belly landed on the deck in front of her "i hope you can swim" he said before grabbing and tossing her into the horizon. when she was out of sight, he turned to look at the commotion happening towards the front of the ship "whos next?"
Samuel was finally getting the advantage, he had figured out that the bubbles dont exploded when in contact with ocean water. he drenched himself with a mop bucket he found, "not so tough without your explosives are ya?" he was reading himself for another attack when he felt a massive hand wrap around him 'what the?' he thought. it was Yellow Belly, he held Samuel up close to his face squeezing just enough to be painful "i remember you, one of those goofy cowboy's i ate right? well hows that revenge you whent on about going?" he squeezed a little harder, Samuel was now screaming in pain.
off to the side of the ship the three brothers had been setting destination charges all around the pirates vessel they were finishing up the last charge, they looked up to see their sister flying off into the distance. "was that Jess? what the hell is going on?" Greg grabbing his pistol looked at the other two "you guys have this right, i think im needed up there" before he could finish they all heard their older brother screaming out "SAMUEL!" Greg tried to jump up and frab the railing but was stopped by his brothers "you need to stay out of it, none of us are good for direct confrontation" the response was immediate "thats our brother up there, and Jess might be dead. i cant just sit here"
Samuel felt his bones crack, unable to travel through shadows because he was covered in seawater. He flashed through the plan in his mind; it was supposed to be so easy, but things never seemed to go according to plan. he was ready for the end, though he wished it was less painful he would die fighting for what he believed in. he stairs his killer in the eye stoically. bit before the end came Yellow Belly cried out in pain dropping him, Samuel rolled out of the way and looked up to see Greg... getting smashed by a massive foot, Samuel raged out dashing blindly at his brothers killer.
Mordred was starting to regain consciousness, her entire body hurt and it was hard to move. 'Did I get hit with a mountain or something?' She thought to herself. She opened her eyes and started trying to get up. "That's right. I was fighting someone." She looks around to try and find her bearings. She hears a commotion, she looks over to see Samuel being held up by the throat. 'This is bad.' She thinks to herself. She grabbed her sword but before she could go help, the sound of breaking bones rang through the night. Her eyes widen and she looks back at the scene. Samuel just hung there without moving. 'No!'The killer's laughter was the next sound. "No!' She scrambles onto her feet and starts speeding to her friend's defense. "NO!!!" she watches in horror as Samuels body was tossed over the side.
Wrath began to take over her senses; she could feel a rush of power enveloping her. The gauntlet from before had formed over her right arm. Faster than anyone could see, she was moving in front of Yellow Belly. In a menacing tone, she said, "How dare you!" The killing intent could be felt like a dense fog in the air. Yellow Bell let out his bellowing laugh once more, "So still alive are you?" His right-hand man stepped forward and spoke, "Remember me? I've got a bone to pick with you, bitch!" He lunged forward, swinging his hammer, but before he could make contact, Mordred slashed her sword upwards. For a moment, Crusher stood there confused as to what had just happened, but before he could get his answer, he fell apart down the middle.
All of Yellow Belly's men were in shock; the second strongest member of their crew had been taken out with a flick of her wrist. The aforementioned captain stepped forward, "So you have a bit of power yourself, but it's not going to be enough." He held out his fist, the black substance from before coated his arm up to his elbow. "Secret technique: Black Fist!" he swings his massive black fist down at Mordred. without fear or hesitation she swings in with her own attack, three words flash though her mind "CLARENT BLOOD ARTHUR!!!!!" the night was completely illuminated by a brilliant red light, shock waves resonated through the air disturbing the water.
after the clash the two fighter stood staring at each other "that was something" Yellow Bellys last words before he fell dead. Mordred looking at the last of the pirate crew holds out her sword "anyone else?" they did the only thing a sane person could do in their situation, they jumped ship. "cowards" she said before waking over to the edge of the ship, she jumped landing on the black fishing boat. "are you the only one?" Tommy asks with bated breath, Mordred could do nothing but nod her head hung low. she calmed herself down dispelling the gauntlet in the process, it was taking everything she had to not break down and cry. "its going to be a long ride" was the last thing she said the rest of the trip.
-sunrise-
it was a long trip and nobody had said a word, nobody wanted to say anything. the mission was successful but at a high cost, good people paying the ultimate price for the greater good. Mordred had been spending most of the trip reminiscing on conversions she had with Samuel and Jess. but now the shipyard was in sight, Mordred examined the now free island. "we made it" said tommy Billy glanced up and looked back at his boot "thats not home anymore Tommy"
after reaching the docs the three split up, the two brothers walk towards the back of the shipyard and Mordred to the saloon. i need a drink after all of that, when she arrived she was met with the smell of cooking food, the bartender was playing Mary had a Little Lamb on the piano. shiro after seeing her come in spoke "hey hey, you guys made it. hold on i will be right down" mordred said nothing, she just sit at the bar in silence.
Shiro walked over and set next to her, "Samuel hanging out with his family still?" he asked. Mordred said nothing just sit there staring at the bottles behind the counter, after a moment Shiro figured it out "oh no" he said with a ghostly expression. Mordred reaching up grabs the cigarette out of Shiros mouth, putting it up to her lips and inhaled deeply "i finally undertand why you smoke these" she said before exhaling. shiro gets two glasses ready and looks at her with a knowing expression "i know"
