(A.N. It's been a while but back with a little oneshot - this time Calvin and Hayley. I just finished Ninja Steel / Super Ninja Steel for the first time and their relationship is just too sweet. They have their ups and downs as couples do but I love how they always sort out their issues and Calvin is a sweetheart. Hope you enjoy x)

The last thing Calvin could remember was Hayley breaking up with him and the numbness he'd felt as he walked through the city. After that, everything was blank. Time had passed – he knew that – but for a reason unknown to him, it felt like the wool was pulled over his eyes. The first thing he saw when it was finally removed was his sword raised towards Hayley who was hanging off the - wait, how did he get on Galvanax's ship?

"Calvin help!"

"Hayley!" He rushed down to her, feeling her tight grip on his neck as he pulled her up. "I got you! I got you!"

Calvin pulled her into his arms, moving them away from the edge. He pulled her into his lap, tucking her head away in the crook of his neck as he gripped her tightly. For a moment, he'd worried that he was hurting her but by the feeling of tight fists gripping the back of his shirt assured him that she was desperate to be in his arms as much as he was to have her there. He let his hand rest on her hair, holding her in place as he closed his eyes.

They'd faced a lot as rangers but seeing Hayley in mortal danger like that was the most terrified he'd ever been. He loved her – whether she'd broken up with him or not – that didn't change and the thought of losing her was too much bear.

"Cal."

The whisper was enough to pull him from his thoughts. He pulled back enough to be able to look at her but cupped her cheeks, putting no more than a few inches between them. "Are you ok?"

"I'm fine, thanks to you."

"How -" He didn't even get the words out before he started thinking about it. When he came to, he had his sword raised to her and she was hanging off the ship. He must've put her there. He'd almost hurt her or he did hurt her - he wasn't sure but the thought of anything happening to Hayley because of him made him sick. He pulled her into his arms once more. "I can't believe I almost hurt you."

"It's not your fault." She pulled back to look at him but felt his hands still firmly wrapped around her shoulders. She wanted nothing more to be in his arms and stay there forever but there'd be time for that later. She looked at him desperately as she told him. "Listen Cal, I'm so sorry for breaking up with you." Taking his hands in hers, she continued. "I never should've been upset at you for telling me the truth. You're an honest guy, that's the thing I love the most about you."

He shook his head. "Let's face it, I was wrong too. And I promise to be kinder w-when I know the truth may hurt your feelings."

She'd picked up on his stumble and knew his emotions were going haywire – hers were the same. She couldn't help the relief that flowed through her as she felt his hand cup her cheek again. "I love you Calvin Maxwell."

He exhaled shakily as he leaned his forehead against hers. "I love you too."

He held her face between his hands as he kissed her and the relief they felt was inexplicable. They were ok – everything else they would sort out later – but for now, they were together and they were ok.

When she pulled back to look at him, Hayley could see the tears glistening in his eyes and used her thumb to wipe away the small drop on his cheek. "Oh Cal." She rested their foreheads together once more as she whispered. "We'll figure everything out once this is over. We have to get out of here, it's too dangerous. We have to go help Sarah."

"Let's go save the world together."

And that was exactly what they did. Against all odds, the Ninja Steel rangers had emerged victorious and the planet was safe once more.

After everything was said and done, Mick had sent the rangers back home with their families. They protested, they wanted to hang out and they wanted to really celebrate together but Mick declined. 'You're thinking like rangers. Your parents must be worried sick and they just want to know you're safe' he'd told them 'we can all come back and celebrate tomorrow but for now, go be with your families.'

So that was what they did: Brody and Levi went back home to Dane, Sarah to her mum, Hayley and Preston to their dads and Calvin... well Calvin went home to an empty house with a promise from Hayley that they'd talk in the morning. His parents were away which he was mostly glad for but a small part of him wished he'd had someone waiting for him. Instead of thinking on it, he pushed it aside and found things to do around the house to keep him distracted.

The problem came when there was nothing left to do and he found himself alone in his room - that's when the thoughts flooded through his head. The day should've been so simple. He was meant to get to school early, help Hayley with her audition and the rest would be like any other. How did everything go so wrong? He'd let Hayley down, only narrowly making it in time for the audition, unintentionally insulted her about said audition and they'd broken up – that wasn't even including being under Odius's control. Earth was safe because of them and he and Hayley were ok now but for a minute there, anything that could've gone wrong did.

As he laid on his bed staring up at the ceiling, jagged memories of the day that had previously been blocked started to resurface.

He wasn't in control of his actions – it was like he was outside of his body, watching his every move. He saw Hayley near the satellite, her eyes set on destroying the connection and freeing everyone from its control. He watched his own hands grip her shoulders, ripping her away and throwing her. He watched her roll and felt his heart stop as she fell over the edge. He saw her holding on for dear life as she begged him to help her and he watched in horror as he saw himself raise his sword at her.

It was too much. He could hardly breathe over the lump in his throat and he felt the tears on his cheeks that he couldn't possibly suppress. If she hadn't broken the control when she did, he would've hurt her. He would've lost her and it would've been his fault and he couldn't -

"Cal?"

The sight of Hayley standing at the threshold of his balcony only heightened his guilt and a sob escaped his throat. Her eyes widened and she rushed to him, climbing onto the bed. She straddled his legs, setting herself in his lap as she held his face between her hands the same way he always did hers. The gesture only seemed to heighten his anguish as he looked at her helplessly. "I'm so sorry Hayley, I'm so sorry."

She pulled him close, feeling as he buried his face into the crook of her neck and she ran her hand over the back of his hair. "It's ok, we're ok. Everything's ok now."

He pulled back enough to shake his head. "No it's not. I hurt you. I threw you off the ship. I almost killed you. I -" His eyes widened." Oh God, did I do anything else?" He rushed to check her, gripping her arms, twisting them, looking for any signs of injury he may have inflicted on her whilst under Odius's control.

Hayley stopped him, taking his hands in hers – entwining their fingers – and setting them in her lap. "Listen to me Calvin, you did nothing wrong. I'm ok and you didn't hurt me."

"But I -"

"You were under Madam Odius's control, you had no control over your actions. It's not your fault and you didn't hurt me."

"I'm so sorry Hayles, I'd never - I couldn't -"

"I know." She cupped his cheek as she bored her response into him. And she did know, this was Calvin after all. "I know you'd never hurt me, you're the sweetest guy I know."

"But I let you down."

"It was an accident. You couldn't have known you were going to have car troubles and you made a mistake. I let my nerves get the better of me and that wasn't fair. You're late and forgetful, I know that."

He looked down. "I'm sorry, I promise I'll try -"

"No I'm sorry." She shook her head as she looked at him, cupping his cheek. "Yes, you can be late and forgetful but I overreacted today. I focused on the few negatives and I ignored all the good stuff. Maybe it's because we've been together for a few years but for a minute, I forgot how good I have it. You're an amazing guy Calvin Maxwell, you're kind and sweet and goofy and you take accountability. I love all those things about you but the thing I love most is that you're affectionate and I think I've been taking it for granted. The way you're not afraid to be with me no matter who we're in front of. You don't stop holding my hand because we're with the guys."

"I like holding your hand."

The shy admission melted her heart and she leaned her forehead against his. "I like it too and I love you."

"I love you too Hayles so much, you have no idea."

"I know you do." Taking one of his hands in hers, she promised. "We're in this for the long haul Babe. We'll have ups and downs but if we could survive everything we went through as rangers then we can survive anything. You're stuck with me for life."

He grinned. "Wouldn't have it any other way." She mirrored his expression and leaned forward to place a soft kiss on his lips, making him blush. He squeezed her hand as he asked. "Do you have time for a movie or something, what time do you need to be back? How did you even get your dad to agree to you coming out?"

She bit her lip as she sheepishly admitted. "I kinda told him I was staying at Sarah's." Seeing the incredulous look he gave her, she quickly added. "So you've got me all night."

Calvin grinned once more but decided to tease her. "You lied to your dad to come see me? I'm honoured."

Hayley rolled her eyes, gently shoving him. "Don't get used it."

He caught her hands and held them in his. "Really though, thank you. I'm glad you came."

"Me too." She squeezed his hands before patting him on the knee. "Alright, it's been a long day. I vote we cuddle up and watch a movie. Any objections?"

Calvin shook his head with a smile, reaching for the remote on the bedside table as Hayley got them both under the blankets. With a movie turned on, he felt her cuddle into his side and placed a kiss on her forehead. She was right, they could survive anything and they were in this for the long haul.
