The lights were bright, and electricity was in the air. A stadium of passionate spectators watched on as a young prodigy named Cory Banks took on an older more experienced trainer named Walter in the semi-finals match of the Lenova Championship Tournament. Cory was a twelve year old boy who made headlines for his raw talent as a pokemon trainer. He cut his way through all eight gym leaders with ease, and never lost to any trainer looking to step up to him. By the time the tournament began he was the favorite to win it all, and the early rounds seemed to point towards that future. It was the domination that everyone was expecting from the young one.
That was until Walter stepped up. Not only was this the first time Cory was challenged, but he was also losing. Rather convincingly as well. Walter had three pokemon left while Cory only had one remaining. He threw out his ace pokemon, Heracross. Walter's Conkeldurr has taken out the last two pokemon Cory had sent out. It was now up to Heracross to beat Conkeldurr, and the rest of Walter's pokemon. "Alright Heracross, listen to me, and we will win." says Cory. Conkeldurr makes the first move, as it tries to crush Heracross with its giant concrete pillar.
Heracross dodges out of the way. "Heracross uses a horn attack." Cory calls out. Heracross tries to hit Conkeldurr with its horn, but Conkeldurr blocks with its pillar. Suddenly, Conkeldurr's arm is imbued with fire. Heracross tries to dodge, but is too close to Conkeldurr to be able to dodge. Heracross is hit with a fire punch, and is hurt badly. Cory needs to think of something quick. It then hits him. "Heracross use aerial ace." he calls out. Heracross flys up, and dives straight towards Conkeldurr who tries to block. However, the attack is too strong, and Heracross hits a direct hit on Conkeldurr. This hurts Conkeldurr quite a bit since it's now starting to feel the pain after fighting three different pokemon.
Conkeldurr is knocked down, but before it can get up Cory calls out to Heracross. "Use horn attack." Heracross then charges at Conkeldurr, hitting it right in the face with its horn. Conkeldurr is knocked out, and Walter, who has almost said nothing for the whole match, returns Conkeldurr back to its pokeball. It may not be a win yet, but it could be what Cory and Heracross need to beat Walter.
Walter then speaks. "Alright Hawk, let's wrap this up." Walter then tosses out a Hawlucha.
Cory then calls out to Heracross. "Alright Heracross, use—" Cory is cut off when Hawlucha quickly dives onto Heracross using acrobatics. Heracross is knocked out before it could even react. The bell rings, and the match is over.
"AND THE WINNER OF THIS MATCH," the announcer yells over the intercom. "WALTER." Walter returns Hawlucha back to its pokeball, and walks to the middle of the field. Cory stands at his end of the field in silence. He can't believe he lost. How could I lose, he thought. I destroyed everyone I came across, and this is how I'm gonna go out. This is not my fault, he thought. Cory then angrily looks over at his fainted Heracross.
Cory walks towards the field, but not to shake Walter's hand. He walks over to Heracross, and makes the biggest mistake of his life. The stadium erupts into outrage as they watch Cory let his anger take over him. It was a terrible sight. Walter and the referee quickly drag Cory out of the stadium. Cory was rightfully stripped of all his pokemon, and given a four year ban from participating in the Pokemon League. Even though many thought it should be permanent.
From that day forward Cory was no longer seen as the prodigy. He was a disgrace to the whole region.
