Episode 1- A New Beginning
June 15, X790
Location: Fiore, Hemlock Cove, a port town
A girl with fair skin, curls of peach-colored hair that went to her mid-back, and large periwinkle eyes walked down the street of a town. She was dressed in a deep purple crop top and a matching dark purple skirt with black tulle underneath and a dark brown belt across her waist. Over the top, she had on a thin dark mauve jacket with two black strips going the arms.
She also had on black knee-high socks and ankle-high dark brown boots with gold buckles that paired well with her fingerless dark brown gloves.
She looked on in awe at the busy streets of the port town. It reminded her of Hargeon and all the good memories that she had there, even if it was smaller. She frowned slightly, could she really call this place home? She looked at the flier in her hand, brows furrowed.
The flier read: To all interested mages, former Fairy Tail S-rank mage and student of one of the Ten Wizard Saints, Warrod Sequen, Juniper Marrow is creating a new wizard guild in the town of Hemlock Cove. If you are interested, please contact Juniper or visit her in her new guild hall!
"It feels like a betrayal," the girl muttered, but she remembered back to a month ago, eyes closed.
May 23, X790
Location: Fiore, Magnolia, Fairy Tail Guild Hall
The girl was looking at the meager job request the job board had, there wasn't a lot to choose from but she didn't want to accidentally take one that someone else wanted.
"Kaisa," The girl turned at the sound of her name, seeing Macao and Wakaba make their way toward her with cautious faces; the wrinkles on their faces seemed to deepen each day, making them look older than they were.
"Can we talk to you?" Macao asked.
"Of course," Kaisa followed the two older members to a corner table, feeling her unease rise at the look the two shared.
"What is it? The magic council hasn't disbanded the guild, are they?!" That was a concern that they all had every year since Tenrou Island disappeared. With their strongest members gone, Fairy Tail had fallen with each passing year, their performance subpar with many leaving after they started to lose their fame and job request.
Kaisa could only feel anger and bitterness at those people. Weren't they supposed to be a family? Weren't they supposed to stay together during times of struggle?
"No, they haven't, we're safe there," Macao said, himself sounding relieved. "I want you to look at something," He produced the flier, giving it to Kaisa to read.
As she read over the paper, Kaisa couldn't help but scrunch up the edges, as she looked at them in confusion. "What is this?"
"A guild called Dragon Hart is opening in Hemlock Cove. The guild master used to be a member of Fairy Tail, she's also Warrod Sequen's best student. We think you should join." Wakaba explained.
"Why?" Kaisa rose to her feet, feeling slightly betrayed, she had stayed with the guild for years after Tenrou Island's disappearance and now they were sending her away.
"Because you deserve better than this. At the moment, you're probably the best mage Fairy Tail has." Macao said.
"Isn't that more reason for me to stay?" Kaisa wanted to storm off in anger, but she instead sat down, crossed her arms, and glared at the master and his right-hand man.
"You can't grow anymore as a mage here, Kaisa. The way the guild is now..." Macao looked at the somewhat ruined guild hall. "You can't grow as a mage, we can't offer that for you."
"Maybe I don't want to grow," Kaisa said back.
At that, both Wakaba and Macao laughed, "Don't kid yourself. When Natsu was here, all you did was want to grow and be a strong fire wizard like him. That's why you always bothered him to train you." Wakaba said.
"And you've never lost the spark to get better," Macao added. "But you won't get stronger here right now."
"But I don't want to leave. Fairy Tail is a family, and we don't leave the family." Kaisa protested.
"You can visit us anytime you want," Macao said, "Just because you're joining a new guild doesn't mean we'll never see each other again. As the Guild Master, I want you to consider it. It'll hurt me more knowing that you chose to stay and never reached the potential we all knew you could."
"And you can always come back," Wakaba said, pulling his pipe from his mouth. He grinned at her. "How about a deal?"
"What?" Kaisa asked.
"Join this guild for a year. If you don't like it, come back." He said.
"Four months." Kaisa shot back, causing both men to grin. If she was bargaining, then she was at least considering it.
"Six months." Macao shot back.
There was a pause. "Fine." Kaisa huffed, but before either man could pat themselves on the back Kaisa went on. "I haven't said I'd go yet. I have to think about it."
"Take all the time you need," Macao said, watching as Kaisa stood and left.
"She'll do it," Wakaba said.
"I know," Macao said, feeling like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Kaisa herself may not have realized it, but the longer she stayed with Fairy Tail, the more her spark seemed to die. He hoped with trying a new guild, that spark of ambition would come back. "Now if only I could get Romeo to agree..."
Present Day- June 15, X790
Hemlock Cove
"Hey! Watch out!" Kaisa was snapped out of her thoughts just in time to see a carriage head right towards her, driverless, the horses galloping straight towards her in a panic.
Taking a deep breath Kaisa kicked off the ground, flipping out of the way of the carriage and landing in the driver's seat, grabbing the reins and pulling them tightly to stop the large animals.
"What the heck?" Kaisa questioned silently, she looked at the stunned crowd waving. "No problem here," she said easily, smiling.
"Hey! Come back here!" That same voice cried out.
Kaisa turned and saw a young woman run into the alley, chasing after a man who had a kid slung over his shoulder. "Or problem..." She sighed. She jumped off the carriage and joined the chase. Who would have thought she'd have to deal with a kidnapping attempt the moment she stepped foot into her potential new town?
She quickly caught up to the girl who was giving chase, noting that she was wearing an off-shoulder, light blue dress with thin, darker stripes. She had fair skin, large bright brown eyes, and layered, shoulder-length brown hair.
The other girl looked at her, eyes widening in surprise and... recognition. Had they met before? "You're..."
"I've never met you, and should you really be running after a kidnapper?" Kaisa questioned, brow raised.
"I can't just do nothing!" The other girl snapped as they reached the pier. The kidnapper was ahead of them, making his way toward a boat that was ready to set sail at any moment.
But you don't look like you can defend yourself either... Kaisa thought. She was proven right a moment later when about half a dozen men jumped over the side of the boat, magic circles at the ready to stop the two of them from boarding the ship. Or probably, kidnap them too.
Kaisa watched the other girl stumble, fear flashing across her face for a moment before it hardened in determination, and she kept running forward.
At least she's brave. Kaisa thought before kicking into the air, flower petals created out of flames surrounding her body as she did so. She could see the surprise on the kidnappers' faces at her action, the fire petals around her body multiplying as she descended back to the ground. "Dance of the Fire blossom,"
The petals swirled around the kidnappers, swarming them and burning them, acting as a temporary restraint.
"Let us go!" The kidnapper was holding the boy in front of him like a shield. "Or you'll regret it."
"I'm already regretting this a bit," Kaisa said, waving her hand, a cluster of fire petals encircled the man's ankle and whipped him off his feet, causing him to drop the boy and hang frantically from the air by the created tendril her fire petals formed. "I'm a bit tired of these lackluster fights." She dropped her hand and all her fire petals disappeared, dropping the man back to the floor with a crash.
"Are you alright?" The other girl was checking on the boy and he nodded enthusiastically.
"I'm not hurt at all! Thank you, Miss!" He said, waving to Kaisa.
"It really was nothing." Kaisa sighed, watching as the boy's mother and police officers ran to catch up, cuffing the kidnappers.
"Thank you," Kaisa nodded to the mother and son, since everything was being handled, there was no reason for her to stay. She moved to leave when she felt a hand grab onto her sleeve. Glancing back, she saw the other girl holding onto her, a sudden uneasy look on her face.
"What?" Kaisa asked.
"Will you go to the ship with me? I have a bad feeling." She said softly.
Kaisa rose a brow in question but shrugged, it wasn't like she didn't have anything better to do., the guild wasn't going anywhere, "Lead the way."
"I'm Rose by the way." She said softly as they began to climb the ladder onto the boat.
"Kaisa," She replied back as she followed Rose. The boat looked shabby and like it might break. There were no bells and whistles, just the necessities. "I wonder where they were going."
The two made their way deeper into the ship, looking around. Besides being worn down and belonging to well, kidnappers Kaisa didn't see anything wrong with the ship. She was beginning to think Rose was just curious and wanted to explore a criminal's ship for whatever reason when they ran into a problem on the lowest level, first came the smell, a mixture of rotten food and something sour... it didn't take them long to find out why.
Along the wall of the lowest level of the boat were seven small boys chained up, covered in dirt and their own blood. They were thoroughly gagged and perfectly chained so they couldn't escape.
"Wh-what?!" Rose looked like she was about to faint at the scene. "Why are there boys here?"
"Well, this explains why they took the boy," Kaisa scowled, feeling sick at the condition of the boys. She knelt next to the closest one, watching as he pressed against the wall to get away from her. "Can you understand what I'm saying?" She asked him.
A pause, then he nodded.
"Do you know how long you've been here?" Kaisa asked. The boy shook his head.
"Okay then," Kaisa stood up looking at all the boys, she raised her voice. "There are people outside this ship who can help you. I'm going to break your chains okay?"
There was a long pause, but one after another, the boys nodded.
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Rose asked nervously. "What if they attack us?"
"You're the one who wanted to come here. How'd you know they were here anyways?" Kaisa asked, looking at her with a raised brow.
"I dreamed about this ship, but I didn't know what was in it. Just nothing good." Rose confessed.
"I don't know about dreams but... we found them sooner, thanks to that," Kaisa smiled, she snapped her fingers, and fire petals formed in the air around her, she flicked her fingers towards the chains, and they completely melted the iron, freeing the boys, but a good number of them flinched.
"Can you stand?" Kaisa asked, looking at the boys. She noted that even though they were free none of them had attempted to take their gags off. Or stand. "Rose, help me get them out of the ship," Kaisa ordered.
Rose nodded mutely and took the first boy, he flinched at her touch but didn't fight back. Kaisa grabbed the next boy and together the two of them led them out to the deck, catching the attention of other officers as they did so.
"There are five more boys below," Rose said to the nearest one, causing a group to run down.
"Here you go," Kaisa said, leading the boys to someone to who looked like a medic, Rose close behind her.
The two girls lingered long enough to make sure all the boys were accounted for before Kaisa took off, waving away any comment of gratitude. So... this hadn't been that boring after all.
"Wait!" Rose hurried after her and Kaisa sighed.
"What now?" She asked.
"I just thought we'd go to the guild together. I planned to join too." Rose said getting her cheerful attitude back now that they were walking away from the ship and it seemed like the boys were safe.
"You're a mage?" Kaisa asked in disbelief, and Rose's expression turned sheepish.
"I think I am?" She asked.
"You think you are?" Kaisa asked, brow raised.
"Well, I don't know if it's magic, but for the past few months, I've been dreaming of this town, and a woman with brown hair and green eyes standing in front of an unknown guild hall. I thought I was going crazy until I read the paper one day. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the exact woman, I was dreaming about announcing that she was forming a guild. I also dreamed about you dodging a carriage." She added shyly.
"Precognition?" Kaisa asked curiously.
"Is that what you call it?" Rose asked. "Anyways, if it is magic, it may not be very strong. But I thought I'd join a guild and ask for help."
"Why fully join the guild? Why don't you just hire a guild mage to help you out?" Kaisa asked.
"Because this guild..." Rose closed her eyes, a small smile on her face. "I'll admit, the images I get or foggy sometimes, but... I know this is the place I'm supposed to be." She thought back to another dream she had, of a group of people happily gathered in the new guild hall, their faces fuzzy so she couldn't tell the features of most of their faces, but she did know Kaisa was there.
"Well, if you can see the future, I won't argue with you," Kaisa said, stopping suddenly and causing Rose to stumble at her sudden stop. "We're here."
The two girls stood in front of a two-story, old-fashioned saloon building that looked newly refurbished but plain, the name Dragon Hart printed boldly at the top of the building, a sitting dragon at the end.
"Let's go in!" Rose grabbed onto Kaisa's wrist before she could protest and dragged her in.
Inside sitting by the bar were three people. All of them promptly stopped talking once they entered to stare at them.
One was Juniper Marrow, the new Guild Master. She had a rather innocent appearance with fair skin, light brown hair that flowed down her back in gentle waves, and large, gleaming leaf-green eyes. She was dressed rather simply in a long sleeve, cream-colored blouse that had ruffles in the center of the shirt and sleeves, a high-waisted dark green pencil skirt with a brown belt around her waist, brown ankle boots, and a warm green robe thrown around her shoulders.
The second person was another girl- no male, a male with extremely feminine features. He had soft pale blonde hair that was tied loosely over his left shoulder, large pale gray eyes with long lashes and he wore loose-fitting green wizard robes that exposed his chest.
Lastly, there was a boy about their age. He had tanned skin, messily spiked stormy gray hair, and clear deep sky-blue eyes. He was dressed in a tight-fitting dark gray tank top under a dark blue vest with gold trimming, and baggy white pants tucked into black boots.
"Welcome!" It was the boy who greeted them first, rushing to them enthusiastically. "Are you here to join the guild?"
'Mayb-" Kaisa started to say, still having some reservations, and she admitted, they only grew when she saw that no one else was joining them. The guild hall was absolutely deserted. Did that mean no one had joined yet?
"Yes!" Rose said equally enthusiastic. "I'm Rose. This is Kaisa. It's nice to meet you." She said bowing politely.
"Tidus, it's great to finally get new members." He said.
"Has no one else joined besides you?" Kaisa asked.
"We did only formally open a week ago," Juniper said joining them, a welcoming smile on her face. "I didn't expect a rush."
"I see..." Kaisa said, looking unsure. She looked at the only person who hadn't spoken. "Were you planning on joining?"
The man laughed, "No. I was visiting from the Sanctuary of Sage in Orcana. Juniper studied there for a few years, one of the best green magic users I know. I wanted to congratulate her for starting this guild." He said.
Juniper smiled pleased, "That's something coming from you Gideon. Thank you."
"What do you do?" Rose asked curiously.
"I also use green magic, like Warrod and Juniper. I use it to help me research plants and study medicine." Gideon explained.
"He is the foremost expert in medicine and healing in the whole continent of Orcana," Juniper added. "Even high-ranking officials in Ishgar request him if they really hit a wall."
"And he's complimenting you? That's pretty amazing Master." Rose said in awe.
"Well, she deserves it. In a few years, I'm sure we'll be at the same level." Gideon said, looking encouragingly at Juniper before grabbing a green wizard's hat and placing it on his head. "I'd better get going. You have two members to get to know and the Grand Sage is waiting for me."
"Give Master Bellamy my regards," Juniper called after him as he left.
"I will, and good luck with your guild Juniper," Gideon said as he left, leaving the rest of them to stand in silence for a moment.
"So..." Juniper looked the two girls over. "I'm sure you already know, but I'm Juniper Marrow, the first Master of Dragon Hart. I use greenery and plant magic. Can you tell me your names again?"
"Rose Emrest, I... don't know much about the magic I can use, but I think part of it is precognition?" She looked at Kaisa at the last part and the other girl nodded to show she got it right. "Will you still accept me into the guild?"
Juniper smiled warmly. "Of course, I want this guild to be a place where mages can discover their magic and grow."
"Kaisa Westfalia," Kaisa said, finally deciding to give the guild a try. "I use a mixture of fire and sun magic."
Juniper looked surprised, "You're the Fairy Tail member that Master Macao wrote to me about aren't you? Thank you for giving me a chance."
"If you hadn't been a former member too, I probably wouldn't have," Kaisa confessed. That's what really won her over.
"And I'm Tidus Castellan," Tidus butted in, throwing an arm around Kaisa and Rose. "Sky Devil Slayer. Just wait, one day I'll be one of the ten wizard saints." He let out a content sigh, "I can just tell this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
Rose just laughed lightly while Kaisa sighed. I can tell I'm going to regret this...
And that's the first chapter! Let me know what you guys think!
Bet you weren't expecting it to be set in the Valkyrie Dawn world, but the characters will barely interact, with a few guest appearances at most
