Hey guys, sorry I haven't updated in ages, but that's what happens when life gets in the way
"hey, about time you guys got back!" James greeted his friends as they came to the clearing they were camping in
"Sorry, we got held up by Kendall," Logan said and both older boys noticed the third poke-ball hanging on Kendall's belt
"no way! You got a third Pokemon!" Carlos said in excitement
"We both did" Logan grinned and sent out his newly caught Oddish while Kendall released his Ralts
"Awesome, you managed to find a Ralts!" Carlos cheered
"Wow, what are their names?" James asked as the new Pokemon introduced themselves to their Pokemon
"Well, I debated a lot of names for Oddish, but I finally decided on the name Oliver, since it's a boy and most names I thought of are too feminine for him" Logan explained and Oddish let out a little cheer when he heard his new name
"I've decided to name my Ralts Ronin, due to the Gallade line being master swordsmen" Kendall explained, he took a quick glance at his Ralts and other than a small nod, it gave no other reaction to its new nickname. he sighed, bonding with Ronin would be a lot harder than he thought
"Well, I've decided to name my Dratini Twinkle, cause she's going to be my shining star" he looked affectionately over at the Pink Dratini who was chatting happily with Neptune, Logan glanced at the pile of sticks that had been dropped next to a circle of rocks
"come on, it's been an exciting day for all of us, let's cook dinner and get ready to settle for the night" he suggested and the others nodded, splitting up to do various tasks, Kendall washed and chopped the berries that James had collected, while Carlos set about boiling a pot of water, James portioned and cut up the preserved meat while Logan set up bowls for their pokemon, as it was their first day they boys decided their Pokemon deserved a treat. Once the stew was done, they served their Pokemon first before digging into the warm soup themselves happily chatting about their dreams and plans
"hey, Kendall?" Carlos asked once they had finished eating dinner and were washing up the dishes
"yeah 'los?"
"do you mind if I borrow your Iron Tail TM? I want to teach it to Sparky and maybe if he can perfect the move by the time we reach Rustburrow, I can take on the gym"
"good idea Carlos, I was going to do the same thing with Lucky" Kendall said with a thoughtful look on his face "They can practise together"
"are you going to reach Ronin magical leaf?" James asked from where he was drying dishes with Logan and Kendall shook his head
"Nah, I want to get to know him a bit better first, have a few battles so he's more comfortable with me before I teach him anything new"
"good idea" Logan said "and the best part is that we have to go through Petelburg Woods to get to Rustburrow City, meaning your Pokemon will have plenty of time to perfect Iron Tail"
"But what about Odin? He doesn't know any fighting-type moves yet" James asked
"That's where Athena comes in, I figured that Athena could teach Odin a fighting type move, and in turn practise her moves a bit while I work with Ronin" Kendall said thoughtfully and Carlos nodded "Although, I will need to capture another fighting type soon as I read fighting types best train with each other"
"what about you James? how are you going to prepare for the showcase?" Logan asked
"Well, I figure I'd teach Neptune bubble beam first, it's a fairly easy move to learn and then with Stella, I'm going to have her practise her moves and see how I can use them in a showcase. The best move I can think for her to learn is Swift, I have an idea I want to try out but need Swift to execute it. Finally, with Twinkle, I was thinking about getting her to practise with Inferno, get her started on Ember and then Flamethrower if that's ok Carlos" James asked his friend who nodded
"Sure James, who knows? it might help Infoerno learn Flamethrower"
"Meanwhile I think I'll get Oliver and Flora to practise their moves with each other and then work with Stella a bit, I may not be competing in the league, but I still want to help my Pokemon be strong" the boys nodded and continued to clean up after their meal.
"ok guys, let's hit the hay" Kendall said once everything was put away, the boys returned their Pokemon to their respective balls and crawled into their tents. Early the next morning, the boys found themselves using their camping area as a training ground. Kendall and Carlos had already taught their respective Eevees Iron Tail using Kendall's TM and both Eevees were continuously hitting their tails against a rock, both of their tails took on a metallic shine before making a small dent in the rock, however, they were not able to hold it for very long and need a break in-between. Both boys had told their Pokemon to practise the move until they could use it continuously, but also make a bigger dent in the rock. Carlos was with Inferno and Twinkle as Inferno helped teach Ember to the small Dratni who watched him with curious eyes, her eyes turning to James every so often. James meanwhile was struggling to teach both Neptune and Belle a new move, luckily Belle knew the move and was currently teaching the move to Stella, allowing James to fully focus his attention on teaching Neptune BubbleBeam. Kendall meanwhile was busy working together with Ronin, who thankfully listened to his orders but other than that showed little to no reaction to him and his team, making Kendall worry. Every so often he would glance at where Odin and Athena were training, luckily Odin had managed to learn low-kick fairly easily and now both Pokemon were currently trying to learn Brick Break by continuously swinging their paws against rocks. Logan meanwhile was busy getting Flora to teach Oliver Razor leaf he was so absorbed in his training that he almost missed his watch's alarm.
"Hey, guys! it's almost 10! We need to pack up and get moving if we want to get to Oldale town before lunch!" the boys nodded and quickly returned their Pokemon, or in Odin's case, climbed up Kendall's shoulder and packed up the tents and cooking equipment that had been drying after breakfast and continued down the road, every so often battling any wild pokemon that appeared and eventually they arrived at Oldale town just as it was lunchtime. They quickly made their way to the Pokemon Centre where they got their Pokemon checked up by the friendly Nurse Joy at the same time Carlos and Kendall got signed up for the Hoeen league while James signed up for Pokemon Contests, the boys decided to get a room so they could freshen up before eating lunch.
A few hours later, the boys had showered, collected their Pokemon from Nurse Joy who assured them their Pokemon were perfectly healthy, contacted their parents and were now having a delicious lunch
"I wonder what those ruins were" Carlos said, thinking back to the ruins they passed by on the way to Oldale Town, Logan had forced them to pause in their tracks so he explore for a bit, and talk to Professor Alden who was investigating the ruins
"according to Professor Alden, he says that the ruins hold a chamber that may contain a portal between our world and the world of ancient Pokemon"
"Ancient Pokemon? What are those?" James asked curiously
"No one really knows what they are, scientists believe ancient Pokemon are a separate race from Fossil Pokemon and the Pokemon that inhabit our world now. In fact, some believe that some Legendary Pokemon are Ancient Pokemon" Logan said
"Huh, maybe we should check them out," Kendall said "It's going to take us a good few hours to get to Petelburg, so we might as well take some time to rest up and check our supplies before going into the forest"
"so you guys are interested in the ruins?" the boys turned to see Professor Alden standing by their table "In that case, why don't you follow me" The boys shared a glance before following the professor to a room that was just next to the pokemon centre, it appeared that this was the professor's room as it was covered in notes and various pictures
"wow, this is amazing, but are you sure it's ok for us to see this stuff?" Logan asked
"It's perfectly fine, it's not like this is some sort of top-secret research project, I'm just here to see if there's anything about the portal and Ancient Pokemon, besides, it's always good to see young people take an interest in the past," Professor Alden said
"wow, I bet Ancient Pokemon looked really cool, I wish I could see them," Carlos said wistfully
"well Carlos, you might just be in luck" the boys turned their attention to Professor Aalden who held out a stone tablet and a small green ball "according to this tablet, you need 4 keys to activate the portal. I've managed to find one so far, but I think I'm close to finding the rest"
"wow, that's amazing!" James said, but before anything else could be said the lights suddenly went off and strange people wearing red shirts with hoods and masks that had the letter 'M' on them burst through the door, beside them they had Pokemon such as Houndoom, Mightyena and even Graveler stood menacingly
"what's going on!?" Logan gasped
"Professor Alden, we would like you to accompany us on a little field trip to the Oldale Ruins," one of the members of the gang said
"I recognise those uniforms, you're from Team Magma!" Professor Alden exclaimed, "What do you want with the Oldale Ruins?"
"that is none of your concern" another member said, snapping her fingers and the Mightyena and Houndoom immediately ran towards the boys, surrounding them
"Hey let me go!" Nurse Joy exclaimed from the hallway, soon it was revealed that Nurse Joy was being held captive by another member of Team Magma
"so...what's it going to be?"
"very well, just don't hurt them" Professor Alden begged
"Oh we won't much" another member said as two members grabbed Professor Alden, along with the tablet and the key and dragged him outside, meanwhile Kendall, Logan, Carlos, James and Nurse Joy were dragged to a warehouse Nurse Joy used to hold medicines and pokemon food
"Nurse Joy, do you know who those guys were?" Logan asked
"Yes, they are known as team Magma, so far the police have managed to get very little detail about them, but they have stolen from scientists such as Professor Alden containing information about Groudon, but I don't know why they're interested in Professor Alden"
"over here!" Carlos shouted, Logan and Nurse Joy turned to see Kendall, James and Carlos standing over an open vent "We can escape through here!"
"maybe some of us should stay here," Logan said nervously and the other boys nodded, remembering that Logan was claustrophobic
"ok, James, you stay here with Logan and Nurse Joy, Carlos and I will go and get the key" Kendall said
"good luck boys!" Nurse Joy said as they disappeared into the vent, Kendall and Ccarlos slowly crawled through the vents with Odin leading the way to the centre, soon the boys were able to get into the Pokemon Centre where the lights appeared to be back on, Carlos quickly ran to Nurse Joy's table and grabbed the key to the warehouse that was on the desk.
"you go let the others out, I'm going to try and save Professor Alburn!" Kendall said and ran out of the Pokemon Centre
"Kendall wait-!" Carlos sighed and quickly ran to the warehouse to let his friends out
"Thanks Carlos, where's Kendall?" James said as soon as he was out
"Where do you think?" Carlos said, making the boys groan "Come on, let's go!"
"what do you guys want with the ruins!" Kendall heard Professor Alburn demand as he neared the ruins and stopped at the door which contained 4 small holes
"that's for us to know and you to not find out, now let us in!" one member said
"after all, you said it yourself, this tablet reveals how to open it," another said, holding up the tablet
"it won't open without the rest of the keys!"
"you mean these keys?" Professor Alburn gasped when he saw a member walk up to him holding a small box containing 4 balls that were red, green, blue and yellow
"How did you-?"
"let's just say we made a few pit stops before coming here," the member said laughing but then gasped as the balls were surrounded by a blue glow and floated high into the air
"Hey! What's going on!" the member talking to Professor Alburn gasped as the keys floated away into Kendall's awaiting hand
"Thanks, Ronin" Kendall said as he pocketed the keys while Lucky and Odin let out a small growl
"It's that kid! Get him!" the female member said, releasing her Houndoom and the other members let out their own Pokemon
"Odin, take on the Mightyena, Lucky, you fight Houndoom and Ronin I want you to fight against Graveler" Kendall ordered and his Pokemon nodded, Kendall suddenly wished he had taught Ronin Magical Leaf, but it was too late now
"Reuniclus, Loudred, Golbat, go help!" Professor Alburn said, throwing his own Pokeballs and releasing his Pokemon to help Kendall. Reuniclus went to help Ronin, Loudred helped Odin and Golbat flew to help Lucky. Working together the Pokemon just barely managed to defeat the Pokemon, but then they were knocked out by more Pokemon that came out of nowhere, just as he returned his Pokemon Kendall felt himself freeze up, he looked and saw an Alakazam standing next to the female member
"you know, you would make a perfect addition to Team Magma, what do you say?" she said
"Never!" Kendall grunted out
"too bad" she tutted as a male member reached into his pocket and got the keys
"Now, professor, if you be so kind as to open up the ruins, or this newbie trainer will have just ended his journey," she said as a Houndoom opened its mouth.
"Alright, alright. Just don't hurt him!" Professor Alburn pleaded and Houndoom closed its mouth
"glad you decided to agree" She smirked and handed him the keys Professor Alburn quickly placed them in the correct spots, and the door opened to reveal a large chamber full of drawings containing Fossil Pokemon such as Aerodactyal, Kabuto, Omoyate, and many more.
"wow, this is amazing!" Professor Alburn said, glancing around in awe, but it appeared Team Magma did not have the same reaction as Professor Alburn did as they were quickly snapping photos and glancing around the room with bored looks.
"do you see the information we're looking for?" one member asked impatiently
"not a trace" one replied
"damn!"
"I've recorded all the data from the walls," the female member said
"we've come up empty once again" he glanced at his watch "Let's get out of here"
"what about the boy?"
"leave him, he is of no use to us" With that the Alakazam released Kendall from its psychic hold before it was returned to its poke-ball, Kendall and Professor Alburn watched as Team Magma walked over to a ship that was hidden and flew away just as the rest of Kendall friends arrived
"Kendall! Professor Alburn! Are you okay?" Logan called worriedly
"yeah, we're fine," Kendall said, sheepishly "Sorry about that Professor, if it wasn't for me Team Magma would have never opened the door"
"It's okay Kendall, with or without you, they were going to make me open the ruins, on the bright side they did help speed up the process of opening up the ruins, allowing me to continue my research," Alburn said, "for now, let's head back to the pokemon centre, I suspect Officer Jenny will be there and want our statements".
The next day, the boys were ready and geared up to go into Petelburg, Kendall had gotten his Pokemon checked out by Nurse Joy along with Professor Alburn's and luckily they weren't too heavily injured and made a quick recovery, but he was warned by Nurse Joy to take training lightly for today.
"Thanks for all your help, I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on my findings on Ancient Pokemon," Professor Alburn said, practically vibrating with excitement, as he had discovered first thing in the morning that once the sun had risen, another entrance had been revealed to an underground lake and to his surprise and delight, the lake was filled with Ancient fish-like Pokemon. By examining the paintings that covered the walls of the underwater cave, he discovered the Pokemon's name was Relicanth and was excited at studying the Pokemon and would be sending notes to Professor Wainwright.
"Thank you, and good luck on the rest of your research" Logan said and the other boys wished him good luck as well
"good luck on your journey, we'll be rooting for you" Nurse Joy said
"Bye," the boys said as they waved goodbye to their new friends and continued on their way to Petelburg City.
Yeah, I'm making the villainous teams more powerful and slightly eviler to make it more realistic and the stuff I put about Ancient Pokemon I made up, since they're never mentioned again (I think) after this episode, so I made my own stuff up about ancient pokemon.
Team Aqua will be the next to appear and they'll make an appearance the same way they are first introduced in the games
