Episode 137: Some Like it Hot
Mew and her friends continue on their journey to Blackthorn City, with Mew's final badge as a driving force. The group continues to walk their way to their next adventure. However, they also notice something.
"I'm hot," Jen says.
"I'm boiling hot," Misty says.
"So am I," Molly says.
"Well, there are a lot of volcanoes in these mountains. And when you add in all of the hot springs around here, it can get pretty toasty," Brock says.
"We'll be toast at this rate," Jen replies.
Elsewhere, Team Rocket is relaxing in one of the hot springs Brock mentioned.
Jessie happily sighs, "Nothing like a hot spring to melt away your troubles."
"I can feel my stress just fading away," James says.
"Mudder Nature got it right wit dese tings," Meowth says.
Even Wobbuffet agrees, "Wobbuffet!" (That's the truth.)
"Your blubbering blueness doesn't even bug me. I'll just lie here blissfully and ignore," Jessie says.
But Meowth says, "Hate to distoib your blissfulness but it's da twoips!"
And there, they see Mew and the others walking up the mountain.
"Not now," Jessie says, annoyed.
"But we're soaking," James agrees.
And they watch as Team Rocket passes them.
"Well, we could just ignore them," Jessie says.
"They're the main reason for our stress to begin with," James says.
Suddenly, a geyser erupts near them.
"Dis place is famous for dese big old geysers," Meowth says.
"Yes. And they say the geysers are fairly renowned as well. Lucky we sat here," Jessie says.
Suddenly, they feel a rumbling.
"But, luck is fleeting, isn't it?" James asks.
"I tink it's fleeting away from us right now," Meowth says.
Wobbuffet cries out, "Wobbuuuuuufet!" (Hold on, guys!)
And soon, the geyser Team Rocket finds that they're in eruptions, sending them blasting off.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Meanwhile, Misty is starting to feel the heat.
"It's hot," Misty says.
"Brutal," Brock says.
"Blistering," Tomo says.
"It's boiling," Jen says.
"Really boiling," Molly says.
"It's hotter than an oven," Mew says.
"Do we have to keep whining about the heat? It's only making me feel hotter," Misty says.
"Nothing better to do," Tomo says
Just then, a limbless, gastropod mollusk Pokémon consisting almost entirely of bright red magma approaches. Its oval eyes are large and yellow with small pupils and extend upward from its head. It has a bulbous snout and a wide mouth, with two drops of magma dangling from each side of its upper jaw. It's back is protected by a gray, spherical shell composed of hardened, but brittle magma, forming irregular lumps and plates.
Molly is the first to notice, "What kind of Pokémon is that?!"
"It's a Magcargo," Mew says, and brings out her Pokedex.
Dexter says, "Magcargo, the Lava Pokémon. A Fire and Rock Type. Magcargo lives primarily in volcanic regions and occasionally emits the lava from its back that circles its body."
"That's amazing," Brock says.
Everyone looks and sees Magcargo everywhere.
"This area is crawling with wild Magcargo," Brock says.
"So, obviously, they like this awful heat," Misty says.
The Magcargo they spotted crawls away.
"Fine for them, but not for us. Let's go," Misty says.
Everyone agrees with the idea and begins to continue down the path.
Soon, Brock spots something, "Hey guys, look over there."
The group looks to where Brock is looking on the right. What they see is a Pokemon. It's white with flames from the bottom.
"It's a Pokemon Egg," Mew says and picks it up.
She looks around, "And this one sure is different, and it feels warm."
"It's also different from the other Egg you found in Mahogany Town," Brock says.
"I'll keep it with me for safekeeping. Besides, I can't leave it alone, and it doesn't look like a Slugma Egg," Mew says.
"Good idea," Misty agrees.
Soon, they continued walking down the path. Just then, the group notices the change in temperature.
Misty sighs in relief, "Finally. It's starting to cool down."
"What a relief," Mew says.
But suddenly, they spot a much larger Magcargo in the way.
"That Magcargo's huge!" Mew says.
"Strange place for a nap," Brock says.
"Okay, how are we supposed to get by this giant roadblock?" Misty asks.
"We should wake it up, and ask it to move," Mew says.
Then Mew approaches Magcargo and calls out, "Hey, Magcargo! Wake up! We need to get past you! Okay?!"
Mew calls out, "Excuse me."
Soon, Magcargo wakes up from its nap.
"Sorry to wake you up, Magcargo, but my friends and I need to get through and you're blocking the way. Can you move so my friends and I can get through?" Mew asks.
However, Magcargo doesn't look happy and prepares to attack.
"Run for it!" Brock cries out.
Everyone does so as Magcargo fires a powerful Flamethrower.
Brock cries out, "Guys, hit the dirt!"
Everyone does so just in time.
"That's not nice!" Mew shouts.
The Pokemon cries out, "Stop it!"
"Thanks for nearly roasting us! We just wanted to get past you!" Brock shouts.
"That's right, you big, red, road hog!" Misty shouts.
The Flamethrower continues, forcing the group to dodge.
"Now that's a bad temper," Tomo says.
"I think that snail's got issues," Jen says.
"I agree," Misty agrees.
Magcargo simply yawns and goes back to sleep.
"Issues or not, Magcargo's not moving," Brock says.
"We gotta do something," Tomo says.
But then, Misty steps in, "A water type is better against a fire type. Just leave this one to me," and about to throw her Pokeball, "Just watch me. Staryu, I choose you!"
However, Psyduck comes out instead.
Misty scolds it, "Not again, Psyduck! I didn't tell you to come out of your ball!"
Magcargo soon wakes up again, and when Psyduck stares right at it, it simply runs away.
"Psyduck, why do you even bother if you're just gonna run away?" Misty asks.
Then Misty says, "Get ready, Magcargo. Poliwhirl, let's go!"
And Poliwhirl comes out of the Pokeball.
Misty calls out, "Poliwhirl, Water Gun, now!"
Poliwhirl fires the attack, but Magcargo curls up in its shell.
"Hey, that's not fair. We don't have a shell to hide in," Misty says.
Magcargo comes out and bangs its head against the canyon wall, causing rocks to fall.
"What's that?" Molly asks.
"Look out, Misty! That's Rock Slide!" Mew calls out.
Misty calls out, "Dodge it now, Poliwhirl!"
Poliwhirl does so by hopping from rock to rock, only for Magcargo to leap extra high over Poliwhirl's head.
"Body Slam!" Brock shouts.
"Look out!" Jen cries out.
"Dodge it again, Poliwhirl!" Misty calls out.
Poliwhirl does so before getting hit by a Flamethrower to the face.
"Poliwhirl, no!" Misty cries out.
She then, "hands Togepi to Brock, "Here, hold Togepi." And runs up to Poliwhirl, "Poliwhirl, are you okay?"
Poliwhirl gets up.
"Thank you, Poliwhirl. You did a really good job today," Misty says, and recalls it back to the Pokeball.
Suddenly, a boy's laughter is heard before our heroes look up and see a kid on a ledge. The kid has stand up red hair, and wears an orange vest and shorts, along with a black shirt.
"I've been checking out your attack moves ever since your battle began. I guess you gave it a shot, but, man, oh, man, were you shaky!" The boy says.
"Who made you an expert on my battle techniques?!" Misty screams.
"Ah, cool it, sis! I'll be over in a flash!" The boy says.
The boy starts to have second thoughts about jumping.
Brock says, "Hey. Might want to think twice about that jump, kid."
"Mind your own beeswax, I've got fire spirt! "The boy shouts as he leaps up but lands on his face.
Mew ruches over and asks, "Hey, kid. Are you okay?"
"Pikachu." (Say something.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee," (Painful is one thing.) Eevee says.
The boy quickly gets up, "What? That? It was nothing. Just a clever ploy to get my opponents to lower their guard."
"Alright, expert. Tell me about my battling," Misty says with a frown.
"It's so obvious, it's not even funny," the boy says, "You didn't even stand half a chance. How can you win if you keep running away?"
"What'd you say?!" Misty shouts in anger.
"Please allow me to show you how it's done," The boy says and gets out a Pokeball, "Magcargo!"
But Magcargo is seen to be crawling away.
The boy calls out, "Wait, Magcargo! Wait up for me!"
Magcargo keeps going and disappears.
"I can't believe it. Just look what she's done," The boy says.
Then turns to Misty, "This is all your fault! For being such a second rate loser class battler!"
"If I'm going to be this mad at someone, at least I should know their name!" Misty angrily says.
"Alright, the name's Egan!" The boy, Egan says, "The game, fire Pokémon! You've seen the rest, and now check out the best! I'm the best fire Pokémon trainer around! Call me, the Prince of Fire!"
"The prince?" Tomo, Jen, and Molly say, confused.
"I hate to extinguish your fire, but someone's gotta do it, quick," Misty says.
"Now that's a laugh. What are you, a fireman?" Egan says.
Misty stumbles in disbelief, "Get real! You are now gazing at the up and coming world's greatest water Pokémon trainer, past, present and future. My closest friends call me Misty, but you may address me as the Water Princess."
"Pka Pika," "And a great Water Pokemon expert.) Sparkle says.
"Now this should be interesting," Mew says.
"Oh, please. What's so great about water Pokémon anyway?" Egan says in remark.
"Plenty, especially when it comes to putting out fires," Misty says.
"You got something to say about fire Pokémon, then say it!" Egan says, offended.
"I am saying it, buster!" Misty shouts.
Mew soon gets between them, "Now, now, kids, settle down."
"If you can't get along, than the two of you will have to take a time out," Brock says.
"The only fire you'll be seeing is when you crash and burn!" Misty shouts.
"Yeah? Trying to beat my Pokémon would be like throwing a drop of water on a ten alarm forest fire," Egan says.
"Oh, give me a break! My water Pokémon would turn your fire Pokémon into nothing more than a pathetic puff of smoke!" Misty argues back.
"Take that back!" Egan says.
"I will not!" Misty says.
Egan gets out his Pokeball, "Want trouble?"
Misty does the same, "Bring it on."
"You know, it's too late to say you're sorry, your highness! Egan argues back.
Misty also argues, "Right back at you times a hundred, your lowness!"
"How much longer can it possibly go on?" Mew questions.
Both trainers stare each other down.
"This is just a waste of my time," Egan says.
"Oh. Running away?" Misty questions.
"I'm already bored with this and I came to capture Magcargo and," Egan says and puts the Pokeball away, "I can battle washed up trainers any day. Later!" and runs off.
Misty shouts, "Hey! If me and my Poliwhirl couldn't beat it, then good luck to you and your fire phonies!"
"Well, the good news is that Magcargo's moved out of the way," Mew says.
"Eevee Eevee," (Something good came out of it.) Eevee says.
"Pika Pika! (Let's get moving!) Pikachu says.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket flies overhead on their Hot Air Balloon, and they are relaxed.
Jessie sighs, "I've never had a warm, refreshing blast off."
"It was a rather abrupt exit, but I feel like a million bucks," James says.
"Me, too. I could sit soaking in does hot springs all day long," Meowth says.
"Wobb-uffet!" (I agree!) Wobbuffet says.
But then Jessie says, "Well, you can't, it's back to stealing Pikachu and Eevee."
And soon, the balloon flies over a geyser, though they think it's a geyser.
"There's another hot spring calling our name," Jessie says.
The geyser suddenly erupts, sending them blasting off again.
"I can't believe twice in one day!" Jessie cries out.
"You'd tink we loined our lesson!" Meowth cries out.
"It seems we're none the geyser! We're blasting off again!" James screams.
"Wobbuffet! (Cut to break!) Wobbuffet says.
Meanwhile…
Mew and the others continue on their way.
However, Misty is still steamed about what happened.
She shrugs and says, "That kid has such an attitude. Anyone who thinks that fire Pokémon rule needs to have their head examined."
Suddenly, they see Egan running out of a Magcargo tunnel.
Egan notices them, "Hey, you guys, have you seen that Magcargo running around here?"
"No," Mew answers.
Then Misty sarcastically says, "Why, no. Haven't you captured it?"
"ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF ME?!" Egan shouts
"Oh, I wouldn't dream of it," Misty adds to the sarcasm.
Jen soon notices, "Look, there it is."
Right on cue, the Magcargo Egan has been looking for has appeared.
"It's that Magcargo!" Brock says.
Egan turns back, "Hey! Magcargo, stop!"
The Magcargo does so.
"Today's the day you're gonna get caught!" Egan says and gets out Pokéball, "We're ready. Are you?" and throws it, "Flareon, let's do it!"
Flareon comes out of the Pokeball.
Egan calls out, "Flamethrower, now, Flareon!"
Flareon fires the attack, but Magcargo ducks into its shell to avoid it.
"That's what happened to me," Misty says.
Magcargo retaliates with a Rock Slide.
Egan calls out, "Flareon! Dodge it using Quick Attack!"
Flareon does so, but gets knocked back by the impact of the last rock.
"Gotta stand up, Flareon!" Egan calls out.
Flareon manages to get up.
"Let's turn on the heat with Flamethrower!" Egan calls out.
Flareon fires the attack, but Magcargo ducks into its shell again.
Hiding in your shell like that is a loser's way to battle, you know!" Egan calls out.
Magcargo then fires a Flamethrower of its own, knocking Flareon back.
"Stay with it, Flareon! Hang tough!" Egan calls out.
Flareon barely manages to get up as Magcargo closes in with a Body Slam.
"That's Body Slam!" Misty calls out.
Misty calls out, "Have Flareon dodge it, quick!"
"Stay out of this!" Egan ignores them.
Then says, "Flareon, flaming Tackle attack, now!"
Flareon surrounds itself in fire, charges in and hits Magcargo, but it's not powerful enough to damage it as Flareon is sent reeling.
"Get up, Flareon!" Egan says.
"Flareon's really exhausted. You should call it quits, Egan," Misty says.
"Uh uh. No way! Flareon, don't you let me down! Burn like a fire Pokémon!" Egan says.
Flareon fires up as Magcargo launches a Flamethrower.
"Flareon, use Flamethrower!
The two attacks collide, but Magcargo easily overpowers Flareon.
"Flareon, no!" Misty cries out.
This looks bad!" Brock says.
Egan laughs, "It'll take more than that to finish my Flareon!" And laughs until he realizes his Flareon is down and out, "What happened?!"
Magcargo soon makes its escape while Egan checks on Flareon.
"Come on, Flareon. You're okay, right?" Egan asks. Then gets out Pokéball, "Great job. You deserve a good rest." and calls it back.
"That was really close," Tomo says.
"Yeah, Egan. Great battle," Brock says.
But Egan says, "Don't give me that. Just go ahead and laugh."
Misty does so.
"Uh. Hey, Misty," Brock says.
"But don't they say that laughter is the best medicine? Then you should start taking a dose of it now, right?" Misty says.
Egan thinks about what she said
"Right?" Misty says.
"Uh. Well, maybe," Egan replies, but realizes what he's saying, "WHAT AM I SAYING?! THE ANSWER TO THAT IS NO!"
Misty angrily argues, "LISTEN TO ME, HOTHEAD! WE'RE JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU, GET IT?!"
"I DON'T NEED ANY HELP FROM SOME TWO-BIT WATER-LOGGED GIRL!" Egan shouts.
"I'D SAY YOU DO NEED HELP BECAUSE YOU'RE JUST A ONE-TRICK TRAINER!" Misty angrily shouts.
"TAKE IT BACK!" Egan shouts.
Then Brock gets between them, "Now, now, now. It seems to me that our blood sugar's a bit on the low side. How about we all have some lunch?
"Great idea. How about we stop for some lunch," Mew says.
Then Egan says, "I'm not really that hungry, but I wouldn't want to be rude, either."
Soon, his stomach starts to growl.
"So, I guess it's your stomach that tells the truth," Mist says.
"Yeah? Who asked you?" Egan replies, annoyed.
Up on the cliff, Team Rocket spies.
"Oh, well. What could we do with that red, slimy thing anyway?" Jessie asks.
"I just thought if they were going to catch that massive Magcargo, we could've grabbed Pikachu and Eevee, had a three for one heist, and triple our dollars," James says.
"Well, two for one or none, I vote that we break for lunch!" Meowth says.
"Have you possibly forgotten that we have no food?!" James says.
"But those twerps do! So we'll poach their Pikachu and Eevee, and their picnic!" Jessie says.
"Very practical," James replies.
But Jessie notices something, "Is it just me, or is it suddenly warm?"
"Feels like someone's broiling my backside," Meowth says.
They both look and see a Magcargo firing a Flamethrower at their back ends.
"That snail's been roasting our tails!" Team Rocket cries out, and runs of, "Team Rocket's blazing off again!"
Meanwhile, Mew and the others have finished having lunch.
"That was so good," Tomo says.
"It's delicious," Jen says.
Meanwhile, Flareon is eating a bowl of Pokemon food as Egan watches.
Soon, Misty approaches, "Hot chocolate for you."
"Hey, great! Thanks, Misty," Egan says.
Misty sees Flareon, "Looks like your Flareon sure is hungry."
"I know. Especially after that battle," Egan says.
Flareon agrees.
Then Egan says, "You know, I'm feeling kinda bad about the way I kept pushing Flareon so hard back there when it was probably too tired"
"Seems to me Flareon is well taken care of and perfectly happy," Misty says.
"Of course it is. There's nothing in the world I wouldn't do for my Pokemon," Egan says.
"I know that," Misty replies.
Then Egan says, "But as soon as I'm battling, it's like a fire starts building up inside of me that gets hotter and hotter. It feels like if I don't keep up the attacks, I'll just burn up."
As Egan talks, Flareon nuzzles him before curling up and going to sleep.
"I can understand how you feel, you know. When I get caught up in the heat of the battle, it's like I have to win or else," Misty says.
"Yeah, you do have a pretty bad temper," Egan says.
Misty finds it offensive, "Alright, you don't have to get nasty about it, you know. I'm just trying to help."
"Sorry," Egan apologizes.
"Let's just drop it," Misty says.
"Tell me why you love water Pokemon," Egan says.
"Okay. The reason they're so awesome is because they're just like water. Always changing and adapting," Misty says.
"Hold on a minute. Isn't water just water?" Egan questions.
"Well, think of it this way," Misty says, "When you pour some water into a tall glass, it takes that shape. Into a cup, it takes that shape. You see, no matter what kind of attack a water Pokemon faces, it changes its moves to fit the situation, like water. The quicker one can adapt to any type of battle strategy, the more likely they're going to win the battle. Get it?"
"I guess so," Egan replies, "But I don't recall seeing any of those genius moves in your last battle."
"Did you hear a word I said?!" Misty shouts.
"I did. And I'll keep it all in mind, when Flareon and I go after that big old Magcargo again," Egan says.
"You'll thank me. You'll see," Misty says.
The group chuckles, happy that Misty and Egan are getting along somewhat.
Later, deeper in the canyon, the giant Magcargo shows up again.
"Hey! It's Magcargo!" Mew says.
"What do you know?" Egan replies.
Magcargo looks at our heroes.
"This is it. Your luck has just run out. Flareon, let's get busy!" Egan says.
Flareon comes out, and Magcargo quickly uses Rock Slide.
Egan says to himself, "Always adapt, like water," Then calls out, "Flareon, check out the flow of those rocks! Know where they're going and then dodge em!"
Flareon does so and avoids the rocks with ease.
"Awesome!" Jen says.
Those stones aren't even touching Flareon!" Brock says.
"Alright, Flareon, Flamethrower!" Egan calls out.
Flareon fires the attack, but Magcargo ducks into its shell.
Then Egan calls out, "Smooth and steady, Flareon! Now get on top of Magcargo!"
Flareon does so before Magcargo comes out of hiding.
Then Egan calls out, "Flareon, Flamethrower!"
Flareon fires from behind Magcargo's head.
"What a great move! Talk about going with the flow!" Brock says.
"Now that's showing em who's the boss!" Misty calls out.
"Go Egan!" Molly cheers.
Magcargo tries to shake Flareon off.
Egan calls out, "Hold on tight or you'll get thrown off!"
Flareon does so.
"Flareon, use Flamethrower again!" Egan calls out.
Flareon fires the attack and it hits, but Magcargo quickly retreats into its shell.
"It's back in its shell!" Mew says.
"Not a problem. Tackle it, now!" Egan says.
Flareon leaps off Magcargo, rebounds off the canyon wall. and nails Magcargo's shell, sending it crashing into the canyon wall, greatly damaging and weakening Magcargo.
Now, finish this thing up with Flamethrower!" Egan calls out.
Flareon fires and the attack takes its toll before Magcargo is knocked out.
"Excellent," Egan says.
"Quick Egan!" Mew calls out.
"Now's your chance!" Mew calls out.
"Got it!" Egan says and brings out his Pokeball, "Go, Pokéball!"
The ball lands, pulls Magcargo inside, dings and blinks a bit, and finally pings. Egan has caught Magcargo.
Egan cheers, "Yeah!"
"Yay! Magcargo's yours!" Misty cheers.
Egan and Flareon celebrate as the boy cheers, "We did it! We did it! We did it! We did it!""
But as Egan and Flareon celebrate, a mechanical hand grabs the Pokéball, but Egan quickly realizes what's happening.
"Hey! That's my Pokeball!" Egan cries out.
And suddenly, they hear the Team Rocket motto at the balloon.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble like a hot lava flow!
James:
And make it double or to the showers you'll go!
Jessie:
To protect our team from the volcano's wrath.
As Jessie talks, she's seen dressed in baseball gear.
James:
We keep cool, while you get a molten rock bath!
And James is wearing the same baseball gear.
Jessie:
To denounce truth and love or my very first pitch.
James:
Hit it out of the park, wouldn't that be a switch?
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Winding up, we prepare for a homerun!
And Jessie throws a fiery fastball.
James:
Keep your eye on the ball, here comes a hard one!
The fiery fastball lands in the glove of the umpire, Meowth.
Meowth: (teary-eyed)
I tought dis was our ball!
"Team Rocket!" Everyone, but Egan shouts.
Egan shouts, "Give back my Pokéball!"
"Uh, uh, uh. You shouldn't have said dat," Meowth says.
"If you really want it that badly, then we want it, too," James says.
"Think of it like this. There's no point in stealing if no one cares," Jessie says.
Mew shouts, "You're not gonna get away!"
"This is us, getting away!" Team Rocket says.
"Give back my Magcargo, you crooks!" Egan shouts.
Misty brings out her Pokeball and calls out, "Poliwhirl, let's go!"
And Poliwhirl comes out.
"Poliwhirl, use Water Gun, now!" Misty calls out.
Poliwhirl fires the attack and breaks the arm holding Magcargo's Pokéball before Egan catches it
"Got it! Thanks, Misty!" Egan says.
"You're very welcome!" Misty says.
"Not so fast," Jessie says and calls out, "Arbok, let's go!"
"Victreebel, you, too!" James says, and calls out his Pokemon.
Both Pokemon exit the Pokeball, but Victreebel tries to eat James instead.
This really has to stop!" James cries out.
Egan throws his Pokeball as he calls out, "Magcargo!"
Jessie calls out, "Arbok, Poison Sting attack!"
"Victreebel, Razor Leaf attack!" James calls out.
Both Pokemon launch the attack.
Misty calls out, "Poliwhirl, Water Gun, now!"
"Magcargo, Flamethrower!" Egan calls out.
Both attacks fire and counter Poison Sting and Razor Leaf, respectively, fairly easily.
"Misty, let's attack together," Egan says.
"Okay," Misty says.
Then Egan calls out, "Magcargo, Flamethrower!"
"Poliwhirl, Water Gun!" Misty calls out.
Both attacks fire and combine before nailing Arbok and Victreebel while the combined attack sends them both into the balloon.
Team Rocket cries out, "It's cold! It's hot! It's hot! It's cold!"
"Alright, Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt attack!" Mew calls out.
Both Pokemon launch the attack and it lands, and it sends Team Rocket blasting off once more.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
Later that evening, Mew and the others are bidding farewell to Egan.
"You were awesome back there, Misty," Egan says.
"Thanks a lot, Egan," Misty says.
Then Egan says, "You know what? Water Pokemon are pretty cool after all."
"And yours are cool, too. For fire types, of course," Misty says.
Then the two trainers begin laughing.
"You always gotta get the last word in, don't you?" Egan comments.
"Well, if I don't, then you will," Misty says.
Both trainers share another laugh before shaking hands.
"Guess we'll settle this thing next time," Egan says.
"Sounds like a deal," Misty replies.
"Take care of those water Pokemon," Egan says.
"Okay," Misty says.
"See you later, guys," Egan says.
The group calls out, "Take care."
"You, too," Egan says.
"Bye, now," Misty says.
