"I'm not going back to Jujutsu High, Kagetora."
"Suguru…"
The room was dark, Kagetora Enoki's voice vanished like a flame to a whisper, the only sound left was the water running, the ice cold liquid washing the deep crimson blood from Enoki's hands and arms. Suguru Geto steadying his breath, fixing the man bun his green hair rested in.
"What other choice do I… do we have Kagetora? We killed them all, the entire village…"
Enoki pulled his hands from the sink, trembling from the cold water as he turned the water off, looking over at Geto, he's breathing becoming more and more erratically, his hands tightly squeezing around the bench, the cheap wood snapping in Geto's hands, his crimson blood leaking from his hands.
"Are you even hearing yourself?!" Enoki snapped, shaking Geto's shoulder violently as his breath hitched, snapping him back to the current moment as he looked around, a small sense of comfort washing over Geto as he saw Enoki, before the ever present dread began to set in once more.
"Think Kagetora, think, if we go back you know what will happen, the higher ups will label us as criminals, and in the best case scenario; we get suspended, but you know as well as I do that we won't just get let off the hook like that," Geto snapped back, his breath caught in his throat, stepping back as he wiped the sweat from his face with the sleeve of his arm.
"No… no… no! That… he wouldn't let that happen, Gojo… he wouldn't," Enoki stammered, he tried reaching out for Geto, his hand sinking back. "The higher ups wouldn't dare, Gojo, hell we wouldn't even need to get him involved! Surely a semi-special grade sorcerer and a special grade sorcerer could kill the old bastards… please Suguru… we can't just give up!"
A small sob slipped from Geto's lips as he rested against the wall, sliding down, hiding his eyes, not bearing to keep eye contact with his friend. "You don't get it do you?"
"What?"
"I… I… I wanted this."
Enoki's bright green irises shrunk. "Huh?"
"I… I wanted this, those non-sorcerers… those monkeys, they're the reason Haibara died, they're the reason Amanai died."
"Suguru… are you even hearing yourself?"
"I ran into the other special grade, Tsukumo, we… we discussed the possibilities of how we could eradicate curses. It was right before Haibara went on his mission, at the time I posed the possibility of eradicating all non-sorcerers, after all, we don't leak cursed energy, we don't produce cursed spirits, but they do. I… I never wanted to do it out of malicious intent, I just wanted to protect other sorcerers. I couldn't bare the thought of seeing Nanami, Shoko, hell even you, lying there on that metal bench. But when I saw those girls, bruised, beaten… I… watching those monkeys die, every one of them, it felt exhilarating."
Enoki's hand twitched, the pain he felt seeing those poor girls locked up, the anger he felt, the anger he took out on the village, Geto found pleasure? Exhilaration? Happiness? All because of some batshit crazy theory Geto believed in. "We have to go back… you're not okay Suguru…"
"No, this is the best I've felt in years," Geto smiled, his steady breath vanished into thin air, replaced with a childlike wonder and joy. "Don't you get Kagetora, this is the only way to change things, at that rate Jujutsu High is going at now, we won't make it to 30, the only way to deal with an infestation of weeds, is to attack the root, the cause of the problem."
"W…what happened to survival of the weakest?" Enoki stammered, throwing Geto's previous moral code into the mix. "The strong protect the weak so that the weak can regroup and build things greater than themselves together? What happened to that, Suguru?"
"Forced Evolution, I was just simply wrong before, but I see it now, Jujutsu Sorcery is the next step in human evolution, and we shouldn't be shackled down waiting for those monkeys," Geto stated. "You see what I'm trying to say right? We hunt down those monkeys, slaughter them all, but the ones we leave alive are those who awaken a cursed technique or cursed energy on death's doorstep, the rest can burn for all I care."
"And what happens after that?" Enoki asked, Geto moving his arm from his eyes, making eye contact with his friend. "What happens when the next step of 'evolution' comes around, what happens when you don't meet the requirements and some insane lunatic spearheading his beliefs kills you because you're a lesser being shackling his 'potential'?"
"We're only human Kagetora, and I'd rather die in the name of the next step of human evolution then watch my friends and classmates be slaughtered by the creations of those fucking monkeys."
Enoki's throat dried, there was no reasoning with him, Geto had made up his mind the moment he saw those girls locked up by those humans… those monkeys. Enoki stood in shock as Geto stood up, a new found sense of life in his eyes, the sleep and hope that Geto needed in his life simply returning to him. "Return to Jujutsu High if you must, blame the slaughter of the village on me if needed, just know, I've made up my mind, with or without, I'll continue killing these monkeys."
Enoki stood vacant as Geto walked past him, grabbing a few of his personal belongings. "Suguru… promise me something, once we leave Jujutsu High, promise me any human… any monkey we find who awakens a technique, any sorcerers from Jujutsu High who oppose us, promise me that you won't kill them under any circumstance."
Geto's heart was touched, the world he dreamed of, a world where sorcerers would defend one another, even if it was simply through the words of a promise, it still meant everything to Geto. "Of course."
"I'm not gonna stand by and let you take the fall for something we're both guilty of," Enoki said. "And I don't want to drag Gojo and Shoko down along with us."
He wasn't going to let it show, but hearing those words hurt, the same type of pain as a knife being repeatedly stabbed into his heart. "Don't see it as guilt, see it as a new found sense of freedom."
"What about any of this makes you think we're 'free'?"
——————
"Suguru and Kagetora, they slaughtered the entire village, no remains left except for burnt corpses."
"Huh?" The darkened bud of a cigarette dropped to the wooden floor. Satoru Gojo and Shoko Ieiri stared in disbelief, Masamichi Yaga staring back, holding the report in his hand.
"Don't make me repeat myself. Suguru and Kagetora, they-"
"We heard you the first time, that's why I said 'huh'," Gojo said, staring blankly at his teacher.
"Suguru's home was searched, it was completely empty. Through, from the bloodstains and residuals, they most likely kill Suguru's parents too-"
"LIKE HELL THEY DID!!!" Gojo screamed, his lip trembling uncontrollably as he squeezed his hand into a fist, blood leaking from the crevices of his fingers.
"Satoru!" Yaga yelled back, shutting his student up as Shoko stood back, shaking in fear and disbelief. "I… I don't have any idea what's going on either."
——————
"Need a light?"
Shoko froze, turning her head over, Enoki standing in the small crowd of people in the smoking zone, waving his hand as he smiled happily. He wasn't wearing his uniform, just a simple black t-shirt and pants.
Shoko's throat went dry, the faulty lighter in her hand dropping to the ground, Enoki noticing Shoko's reaction, he couldn't say he would have expected anything different from her. "If it isn't the criminal himself, you sure have guts."
"I just wanted to say my goodbyes, you mean a lot to me Shoko, you do," Enoki said, using the fingernail of his thumb to slice his finger, a small droplet of blood pooling as he let it drop onto the tip of Shoko's cigarette, a small red flame sparking as she took a drag of the cigarette, let the smoke escape her mouth.
"Who said you're leaving?" Shoko asked. "It only takes one phone call for Gojo to be over here," she teased.
"Nah, he's busy talking to Suguru," Enoki corrected her, the cut on his finger healing.
"You two planned this well," Shoko scoffed, taking another hit from her cigarette, letting the smoke fill the air around them. "You do know you two were sentenced to the death penalty right? What happens if Gojo kills Geto during their talk?"
"You can quit trying to scare me now, you know as well as I do Gojo wouldn't do that."
Shoko sighed, he was right, there was no way in hell Gojo would kill Geto, even with everything he had done. "Ah, fuck it, might as well, what the hell are you two even trying to achieve?"
"I haven't exactly figured it out myself yet, Suguru's main goal is to help humanity achieve its next step in evolution, so he wants to kill every non-sorcerer, and leave Japan as a country colonised by Jujutsu Sorcerers."
Enoki was interrupted as Shoko burst out in laughter. "Seriously? That's his plan? And where do you fall into all of this?"
"I helped him slaughter that village, I wasn't going to stand by and let him take the fall just because it lined up with his ideology."
"That's mighty noble of you, Kagetora," Shoko said, her fingers shaking as she held tightly onto the cigarette in her hand, burning her hand on the flame. "Then why, why did you kill all those people, I know you wouldn't have done it without a fair enough reason so why?"
"Suguru and I were called in to exterminate a 2nd grade cursed, of course by the end of the first night we had already exorcised it, but before we left we found that the elder village folk had two small girls locked up in a cell, from what we guessed, they had either accidentally used their technique and injured the other kids, or their cursed energy was luring in cursed spirits as the village was secluded from any big cities. But even then, you should've seen them Shoko, they'd been sitting in a dirty jail, bloody and bruised, clinging to one another desperately." Enoki curled his hand into a fist. "They told us that they usually took turns body blocking one another, protecting the more injured of the two when the villagers would come in a beat them, those poor girls didn't do anything wrong, and from the way I see, Suguru and I didn't do anything wrong burning that village to the ground."
"THEN COME BACK!!!" Shoko shouted, breaking the awkward silence around them, the people in the smoking zone, giving them weird looks before they began stepping away. "If that's the reason then come back to Jujutsu High, please! Gojo, Yaga, I'm sure they would take your side, and you know better than anyone else that you, Gojo and Geto could take out the higher ups, please! Just come back!" Shoko begged, but even with her pleas of desperation, it didn't seem to affect Enoki, and it was blindingly obvious to Shoko.
"I didn't want to drag you and Gojo down along with us."
"So you'd rather become a mass murderer?"
"I'm willing to become one if it means in the possible future, I won't have to see any more sorcerers be buried so young."
Shoko dropped her cigarette to the ground, rubbing the flame out with her shoe as she pulled out her phone, dialling up a number. "Utahime, bring Mei Mei with you, I've got Kagetora here with me… what?! No! Of course I don't want to die, just hurry up," Shoko scoffed, hanging up. "You should get out of here before they arrive."
"If you were just gonna let me leave, what was the point of calling Utahime?"
"Stop being a smartass, just go, or you could stay and get the death penalty, up to you."
"Thanks Shoko," Enoki said, waving at Shoko as he began walking away, stopping as he turned around. "I hope I see you again sometime."
Shoko stayed silent, watching as Enoki disappeared into the new crowd that came flooding into the smoking area, eventually left alone in the bay of smoke from the old men and women around her. "I… I hope I get to see you again, you moron."
——————
9 years. It still shocked Enoki that 9 years had passed since he had left Jujutsu High, now 27 years old, he had found himself second in command of the remnants of the Time Vessel Association that Geto had reshaped into his own cult of monkeys. While having also become a loved member of Geto's family, raising the two girls from the village they had slaughtered, Nanako and Mimiko.
"S…stay away from me!!! Don't come any closer!!!" An old voice screamed, a man, no older than his late 40's, crawled and limped along the rocky exterior, blood trailing from his heavily injured leg.
"Please, Mr Sato, you're bleeding everywhere! If you're going to die, allow me the pleasure to end it quickly and painlessly for you." The past 9 years may have been rough for Jujutsu sorcerers, but Geto had flourished in the freedom he gained, adapting to being the r leader of the cult had had formed from the previous members of the Time Vessel Association, a cult formed purely for the purpose of worshipping sorcerers. To show the change, Geto started wearing a Buddha robe, his dark green hair kept in a lazy man bun, a large part of his hair still hanging down past his shoulder.
"Get away from me!!! You fucking freak, y… you're insane!!!" Sato screamed, his breath hitching as the adrenaline that pumped through his veins began to vanish, the pain he had been ignoring for so long hit him like a battering ram, screaming in pain as he came to a stop, the crimson trail coming from his leg beginning to pool up.
Geto walked up, teasingly he put his foot on Sato's injured leg, smirking as he stepped down. The sound of bones crunching mingling with Sato's screams of pain. Slowly, Geto removed his foot, looking down at the bruised and tired Sato, his lungs only managing to let out husky wheezes. "Do you have any final wishes?"
"Promise… promise me you won't go after my family."
Geto smirked, looking at the broken and defeated Sato. "Now why would I promise to not kill monkeys? You never were the smartest were you, Mr Sato?"
A tear welled in the corner of Sato's eye, the possibility of his family's endangerment making his heart skip a beat, a fatal flaw as his heart permanently came to a stop, drawing his final breath. "Kousuke, now…"
At the final order of Sato, a large whale shikigami erupted from the ground behind Geto. Kousuke opened its mouth, moments away from crashing down onto Geto. When at a moment's notice, blood, the same thickness and shape of a ribbon, shot up and wrapped around the whale shikigami. The blood ribbon tightening around the whale, squishing the mid section as the blood suddenly ignited, the shikigami consumed in a flame.
"Suguru, we've talked about this," Enoki sighed, walking down the rocky hill as purple blood spewed from the burning shikigami, the corpse falling to the ground. Enoki had also changed, trimming his once wild and unkempt brown curly hair to make it look more respectable. Ditching his uniform for a black turtleneck shirt and black jumper.
"Kagetora! But please, does it really count? He was a shikigami user, not a curse user," Geto teased, stepping out of Enoki's way.
"Quit being a jackass," Enoki groaned, walking up to Sato's body, the lack of blood obvious, his skin as pale as a ghost. "Did he have any last words? Family? Friends?"
"Family, a daughter and wife I think?" Geto wondered, completely unfazed.
"And?"
" 'And' what?"
"Take this seriously, are they sorcerer's or not?"
"Ohhhhhh… Not from what I could tell."
"Wonderful, we'll keep them alive a little longer, hopefully their grieving will make some useful curses," Enoki sighed, stretching his neck. "So, you done for the moment? I'm getting tired, and I want to get back to the others. The girls could've driven Miguel to the verge of death by now."
"Of course, but first we actually have-"
Geto was cut off as Sato's body split in half, the regret of his life mixing together with the cursed energy, allowing him a second chance as he erupted from his body, now a cursed spirit. Without hesitation Sato charged at the two, Geto too slow to react, but it didn't matter as Sato stopped, his body sliced into two down the middle, both halves igniting into crimson flames. Enoki having reacted before Geto, his hand up, fingers formed into a finger gun where he had used his technique.
Kagetora Enoki!
Grade: Semi Special Grade
Kagetora Enoki's technique was an incredibly rare mixture of both an innate and inherited technique, consisting of two parts. The first being Blood Manipulation, having inherited and learnt all the basic skills that came with it, and the second part, BloodFlame, which allows Enoki to raise the temperature of his blood to the point of igniting flames, which are able to burn humans and are especially effective on Cursed Spirits, often exorcising weaker ones within first contact of his flames. Mix that with Enoki's large amount of Cursed Energy, the ability to use Reverse Cursed Technique and his surprising physical statistics. Earned Enoki his impressive and one of a kind rank, Semi-Special Grade.
A Prodigy.
"Please Suguru, for our own sake, start remembering to feed the bodies to your curses to avoid stuff like this happening," Enoki sighed, lowering his hand down.
"Hey! I could've eaten that!" Geto scoffed, looking down at the burning corpse.
"Quit whining, you're always complaining about how horrible they taste," Enoki said while rolling his eyes. "Decides, I doubt a shikigami user would've made a useful cursed spirit."
"I suppose," Geto huffed, following Enoki as they began walking back to where they came from. "Anyway, where was I before I was so rudely interrupted?"
"You were half way through telling me we'd be stopping past that nice sushi place before we headed back, if my memory serves me correct."
Geto chuckled. "That does sound nice, perhaps we should stop by after this mission we have to go on?"
Enoki groaned, kicking his feet against the rocks like a child. "What now?!"
"Please Kagetora, try not to act like such a child," Geto teased.
"I'm sure you can handle this mission on your own, why do I have to go with you?"
"I know, I know, but it's an infiltration mission, you know I can't do long periods of time around monkeys."
"So you decided to force me to do it?"
"What am I supposed to say? You have the far batter Poker face out of the two of us."
"And what about the rest of the family?"
"I'll call up Miguel, I'm sure he wouldn't mind keeping them busy for another night or two."
Emoji was reaching the end of his list of excuses, sighing as Geto walked up behind him, wrapping his arm around his shoulder. "I know we've been busy recently, but I assure you, if we get things done quickly, we'll be back home by midnight tomorrow night! And decides, I may or may not have something that might interest you…"
An unassumed look crossed Enoki's face. "What the hell are you implying?"
——————
"How the hell did I let you talk me into this?" Enoki groaned, Geto had managed to talk him into dressing up for the mission, after all, he wanted his friend to look impressive for who they were about to meet.
"I have to admit, I'm quite surprised I talked you into this," Geto added, smugly, wearing much more comfortable and cold-friendly clothing, blanketed in a fur coat. While Enoki was stuck wearing the uncomfortably fitting suit and jacket, trying to slip his fingers into the tight collar of the white button up around his neck.
"Make sure you enjoy this then, cause it'll be the last time you ever see me wearing like this," Enoki scoffed, struggling to make himself comfortable.
"Oh please, now you're just being dramatic," Geto sighed, his hands tapping on the steering wheel, driving a red 1960's Pontiac, the bright red colour of the car sticking out like a sore thumb against the white snow of the winter night.
"So, when are you going to tell me why the hell we're even here?"
"Check the glove box."
Enoki opened the small compartment next to him, pulling out a file, opening it as his irises shrunk. "Jennifer… Tilly?"
"Told you I had something that might interest you," Geto smirked, watching as Enoki flicked through the pages.
"What would make you think Jennifer Tilly would interest me?"
"Maybe the 100's of times you and Shoko would rewatch 'Bound' together?"
"W…who told you that?"
"Satoru."
Enoki scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Just to let you know, Shoko was usually the one forcing me to watch the film."
"Sure, sure."
"I'm confused though, what does Jennifer Tilly have to do with us?"
"It's not Jennifer Tilly herself, it's the soul that's taken over her body," Geto said, Enoki flipping onto the correct page.
"Tiffany Valentine?" He asked.
"Correct," Geto said. "By your lack of a reaction, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you haven't heard the stories?"
"The possessed dolls story?" Enoki asked. "Back in the 80's and 90's a bunch of stories came out about people blaming murder sprees on dolls right?"
"Yeah that's the one, turns out Miss Valentine had her soul transferred into a wedding doll, she thought she was using 'voo-doo', turns out she was using a high form of Jujutsu, 'Soul Manipulation'."
"And then what? She soul jumped in Jennifer Tilly's body?"
"Yeah, back during 2004, the night Jennifer Tilly gave birth she was found strapped to her bed with 6 dead bodies around her house, she was taken to the hospital, and was found comforting her children with three seemingly unpossessed and regular dolls in the nursery," Geto said, Enoki looking at the pictures of Jennifer before she was possessed and a mugshot of Tiffany, to say they looked extremely similar would be an understatement, they looked the exact same, the only differences being Tiffany's luscious blond hair and Jennifer's black hair. Even that changed after the possession, Tiffany having dyed Jennifer's hair blond.
"Was Mr. Valentine unfaithful?" Enoki asked.
Geto chuckled. "You'd think so, but no blood relation whatsoever, guess they must just be one another's doppelgängers people talk so much about."
Enoki shrugged, not giving too much thought as he began flicking through the file once again. "Where'd you get all this info from?"
"Jujutsu High isn't the most secure place, they put most of their effort into making sure opposing sorcerers don't get into the school, not enough into cyber security."
Enoki chuckled, looking out the window as the car turned, pulling up in front of Harrogate Psychiatric Hospital, the beautiful white and grey architecture pairing amazingly with the snow. "Perhaps I'll leave some monkeys alive, the ones that can build beautiful buildings like this, I'll feed them some cursed objects."
"Do as you wish Suguru," Enoki sighed, opening the car door as the two stepped out of the car, seeing another car parked out the front of the asylum, a man standing at the door of the car wearing a deep black suit.
Slowly the driver of the car turned around, noticing Enoki and Geto. "W…who are you two? Why are you here?"
Geto stepped out of Enoki's way, waving his hand as a signal for his friend to make his move. "We're here to pick up Miss Tilly,"
"You must've been given the wrong schedule, and why are you so dressed-"
"Don't speak so formally with me, you filthy monkey," Enoki interrupted, walking past the driver who gagged and gasped, blood pouring from the large hole formed in the driver's throat, collapsing to the ground, his blood turning the snow red.
Geto smirked. "Cherry snow cone."
"Do your thing," Enoki said, waving his hand over his shoulder as he stepped through the gates, entering the main field of the asylum.
Geto nodded, raising his fingers up. "Emerge from the darkness, blacker than darkness. Purify that which is impure."
An inky black robe began forming above the asylum, slowly the veil began to fall around the white building, trapping and sealing away the patients and staff of the asylum inside the building. Inside, Nica Pierce sat at the window, looking up at the veil, unlike the other patients, she was actually able to see it, watching the snow that once fell dissipate, cut off by the veil.
"Weather's crazy today," Another patient commented, Nica not taking her eyes off the veil.
"Seems like it."
