Naruto can't stop the tears that form in his eyes as he stares at his friend. A haze of red covers his vision, the chakra of the Nine-Tails flows all around him creating the outline of a miniature Kyuubi. One red tail swaying behind him as if responding to the passing wind. He looks at the person in front of him.
Sasuke, his closest friend and rival, had almost killed him. The new scar on his chest being a painful reminder which would stay with him for the rest of his life.
His best friend wants to kill him.
The thought hasn't fully registered. Perhaps it was a horrible horrible nightmare that he would wake up from. He would wake up to a better world, one where his friend didn't hate him and one where Sasuke wasn't a traitor to the Konoha.
Naruto shakes himself out of his thoughts. Wishing wouldn't help him. He holds out his right hand to prepare for the inevitable clash. A dull buzz begins to ring as an uncountable number of purple spirals start to form. A sphere starts to take shape and grow as chakra spins rapidly forming the Fourth Hokage's jutsu. His most powerful technique, he was sure anything less would get him killed. He looks at Sasuke's face one final time, trying to get a read on him. Desperately hoping for some kind of hint of remorse or regret.
Yet his face was perfectly blank. A level of apathy that Naruto hasn't seen on the avenger before, on anyone's face before. The power of the curse mark in full effect. Two webbed hands having sprouted out of his back. His left fist covered in silver lightning. Naruto grits his teeth and prepares for the inevitable.
The Uchiha lunges at the Uzumaki first. In response Naruto does the same, outstretching his hand in preparation for the collision.
"CHIDORI!"
"RASENGAN!"
The two attacks collide and their surroundings are lit up. Swirls of chakra and lightning fly, hitting nearby rock. Pieces of debris fly in all different directions. Slowly a black sphere comes to existence from the center of the collision. It slowly grows until the waterfall and the statues below it are destroyed. An explosion rings out that would be felt for miles. Naruto feels himself lose consciousness rapidly despite his best efforts.
The last thing Naruto Uzumaki sees is a tear of blood and a strange pinwheel pattern.
