Chapter 30
The hospital room began to rush in with doctors and nurses. Her heart monitor went flat. They brought out the defibrillator and time started to stop for Jacob. She was gone and he couldn't breathe. This was not how things were supposed to be. He fell to the floor gripping at his hair crying. Charlie stood froze next to him unmoving as they worked around the two of them.
Alice kept trying to call his phone and he ignored the call he couldn't focus. All he saw was Bella and the doctors as they attempted to jump start her heart. Nothing seemed to be working and she lay there her hand fell to the side of the bed. Jake looked at her hand and looked at her and stood up. The doctors had given up and called the time. He ignored them as they told him she was lost.
He intertwined their fingers and felt her small cold hand. The hand that he would bend a knee to. But never had the chance. The doctors started leaving the room and Charlie came up to the bed, he looked in disbelief. Billy put his hand on Jacob's shoulder not saying anything. Life was too cruel, finally willing to live for him and she was gone. Letting go of her hand putting his head on the bed, crying.
Charlie stood red faced teared stricken and rubbed his mustache on his sleeve. He lost his daughter; he was not supposed to bury his own child! He turned and punched a wall scaring the last nurse who had yet to leave the room. He fell back into the floor and sat there staring at the ceiling.
There was a beep noise they all looked up and waited for another. Nothing maybe they were just hearing things. Jacob's heart jumped and heard it before the monitor, a heartbeat. The monitor again beeped. Charlie jumped up and looked at her then the monitor. Jacob and Billy got closer. The nurse saw the monitor and called the doctor back in.
"Her, her heart it's beating!" Jacob exclaimed.
"That's not possible." The doctor explained as he strode in.
"It is, Doctor look." The nurse showed him the screen.
"Why hasn't she woken up?" Charlie asked.
"Give it time." Billy said.
"Come back to me Bell's" Jacob pleaded holding her hand.
