Liv is in Edison's office. She is working on a brief. She's thinking of giving up law and becoming an actress. She's been playing this role of happy and loving girlfriend almost too good for herself. There are moments when she forgets she hates the ground he walks him and if she could kill him, she would. She and Fitz, along with her family and Fitz's connections, have been planning this carefully. What should be the happiest day of her life is going to be the most excruciating. But she hopes this will be the end of it.
She pretends to be interested in the picking of the wedding cake. It's one of the last little details. Edison's mother, Vera Davis, is there being her usual pushy and overbearing self. Who thinks her son can do no wrong. "The wedding is a month away and I can't believe you waited until now to pick a cake.
"Mom, I told you the bakery is doing me a favor because I won that case for them," Edison jumps in. Liv is anything but impressed.
"Well that's great junior but it will help more if your fiance acted like she cared," Vera says looking in Olivia's direction.
"Mrs. Davis," she starts. She then retreats. The last thing she wants to do is argue with this woman. It can't come fast enough to be done with these people. "I am sorry that I seem uninterested. I just have a lot on my plate, starting at the firm and..now getting married.
Vera is quick, "Well you won't have to worry about that much longer once you marry Junior."
"I am not going to stop working, Mrs. Davis. Edison and I have talked about this. I didn't work my ass off, excuse my French, to be a stay at home wife. I didn't go to school so I can be a homemaker," Liv defends.
"And what is wrong with being a homemaker?" Vera says defensively. "I was a homemaker. I made a very good home for my husband and children."
Edison steps him, "Mother, I don't think she is saying anything is wrong with it. She's just very headstrong. I am sure she will see things differently in a few years."
"Excuse me," Olivia turns to him.
He walks close to her, "Can we have this conversation at another time? Please do not embarrass me in front of my mother."
Olivia tilts her head, "You should have told your mother how I felt on this subject."
Vera clears her throat, "Edison.."
Olivia stands up, "I am going to excuse myself. I need to get these briefs in and I have some errands I need to run."
"Don't forget we have dinner this evening at my mom's," Edison announces.
Olivia turns, "I can't make it. You know that. I already have an engagement this evening. You didn't tell me about dinner at your mom's."
"I am telling you now. I am sure whatever your plans are, you can cancel them. We are getting married in a month."
Liv closes her eyes to center herself. She looks back at him, "No, I can't cancel my plans," she answers him. She looks at Mrs. Davis, "Mrs. Davis, I apologize. I have an engagement with my father to attend. This was planned weeks ago. I cannot cancel."
Edison looks at her with almost venom in his eyes, "Olivia I am sure Eli will understand."
"He's my father and I agreed to accompany him to this function," she says sternly.
Liv walks over to Vera, pointing at a cake, "I love this cake. We can go with this cake." Liv starts toward the door, she pulls it and starts out, she turns to Edison, "Tell your friend at the bakery thank you for fitting us in." She leaves and closes the door.
Vera looks at Edison, "Are you sure she is right to carry the Davis name? You plan to have a family with this have to get her under control."
"She is a good breed mother. She's very headstrong. She's very opinionated and believe it or not she is very smart."
"I don't doubt she is but if she's not going to respect what comes with Davis and if this is who you are intent on marrying, then we need to get her in line."
Edison glances at his mother, "Don't worry, she will be in line."
Liv leaves, before Edison could notice and leaves. As she is driving home, she notices a car that has seemingly been following her. At first she thought she was being paranoid then she purposely made 3 stops to see if the car stopped with her. By the 3rd stop, she was sure of it. She couldn't do like the movies, she couldn't try to throw him off. She had to be smart. She did the only thing she thought she could.
She dials a number, waiting for an answer, "Hi Baby," Fitz says.
"Where is Huck?" She says hurriedly.
"Where is Huck? Why?"
"I think Edison is having me followed. I am sure of it," she answers.
Fitz gets up from his desk, "Where are you right now?"
"I am at that grocery store not too far from my dad's."
"Don't move, I'm coming over there."
Liv closes her eyes in relief and then she thinks quickly, "No, you can't come Fitz. He will just report that to Edison that you showed up. No, you can't come."
"Olivia, I am not going to let him do this to you."
"Fitz, we just have to be more careful," she starts.
"Stay there. I will send Huck."
"Fitz, I'll just let him follow me to my dad's," Liv suggests.
Fitz pinches the bridge of his nose and rubs his chin, "Okay fine but please get home safe."
"I promise. I'll see you later."
"Yes….," He grits his teeth. He wants to get his hands on Edison. He's had enough of his games and messing with the woman he loves. "Livvie, I love you," Fitz says softly
"No you don't," she laughs faintly. She tries to break the tension.
"I am certain that I do," Fitz smiles crookedly.
"Prove it to me," Liv smiles.
"That was the plan for tonight, remember," Fitz reminds her.
"I can't wait," Liv says as she starts the car up again. "Can you stay on the phone with me until I get home?"
"I was going to do that anyway," Fitz answers. Fitz is boiling over with anger. He wants to go over and just kill Edison with his bare hands. The silence is deafening on the other end of the phone. "Livvie, it's going to be okay."
"I'm never going to be rid of him," Liv says softly as she looks out of her rearview mirror.
"Babe, I want you to get home in one piece. Don't worry about the rest of this. It will all be over soon. I promise.
Olivia doesn't respond. She just looks out of the window at what she fears is the rest of her life.
Edison is sitting at his desk, pouring over some files. His mother left in a fury, mad with Olivia's attitude to which Edison had no defense. Her attitude as of late has been different, which is why he had a tail put on her. Charlie has done work for him for cases, he knew he could get him to do this. His phone rings and it's Charlie.
"Where is she?" Edison asks.
"She's home. She made me, I think. I had to get a little close she drives like a bat out of hell," Charlie jokes.
"Are you in front of the house now?"
"Yes I am. No one has gone in and she came home. Lincoln is there, her dad. And the sister, she doesn't appear to be here."
"I want you to follow them to this party. I don't know where it is supposed to be but you make sure she leaves with her father and she comes back with her father."
Charlie tilts his head, "Sure thing boss. That's why you pay me the bucks."
Edison shakes his head, "I hope I don't have to give you a reminder of what's at stake Olivia."
He sits back thinking of his conversation with Angela. Maybe just maybe he should put a tail on Fitzgerald Grant, he starts to think.
Fitz Is sitting at the bar. Olivia would leave with her father, attend the party and one of his trusted drivers is going to pick her up and bring her to him. Tom is passing him a drink. He's waiting for Huck to get there. He is tired of Edison's games and intends to cut this game short, sooner rather than later. He can't watch their plan go into action. Her father is against it too.
"You okay there boss," Tom asks.
"I'm okay. I am just worried about Olivia."
"I thought everything was okay after the accident. She's not having any setbacks is she?"
"No, not physically."
Tom can tell this is a touchy subject. "I don't want to pry."
"You aren't. Things are just about to get sticky, that's all." Tom nods, understanding the less that is said the better. "Tom, can I ask you something?"
"Sure!"
"Am I crazy for wanting to marry Olivia and we haven't even had a chance to date yet?"
Tom smiles, "That's how I felt when I met Quinn. She drove me nuts with that mouth of hers. I asked her out on a date 6 times before she finally said yes."
"Total transparency," Fitz says. "I…"
"I already know boss," Tom answers.
"What do you know?"
"I was here that night. I know you two left together and I can only imagine what happened," Tom winks playfully.
"I knew that night she was the one. Everything was right and I am not going to let anything get in our way."
"If you need my help boss, I am here."
Just as Fitz is about to speak, Huck walks in. "All the help I need for now, is coming in. Hopefully after tomorrow, I won't have to worry about anything."
Huck comes in, sitting on the stool next to Fitz. Tom knows that Huck likes a beer. He pops over a Bud Light and slides it over. "Thanks," Huck says. "It's already done."
"Define done," Fitz says.
"It is going over by courier this evening. I figure it should be the topic of conversation tomorrow morning."
There is a look of relief that comes over Fitz's face. "I want this over. He's having her followed. He's a cocky bastard. And I can't let her go through with our first plan. Even Though I know it wouldn't get that far and her father agrees with me."
"Are you going to tell her?" Huck says.
"I don't want to tell her. I want her to be just as surprised by it all as he will be. She will know it was me. I thought about telling her tonight but I don't want her to worry."
"And the second part of our plan is in motion too," Huck says.
Fitz nods, "Make sure.."
"Don't worry, it will be," Huck assures him.
"I want this prick out of our lives and for him to get what's coming to him," Fitz says.
Huck nods in agreement. "Go enjoy your night with her."
"I'm almost ready," Fitz says.
They sit and talk for a while as Fitz has everything in motion for seeing Olivia tonight.
Olivia and Eli are in the car, Fitz thought it would be a good idea to send a car for them. That way, they could get lost in the crowd of people at this party. Olivia is looking back to notice the car following them. Once again she's unsettled.
"What's wrong Peanut," Eli asks.
"Nothing is wrong daddy," she lies.
"Everything is wrong. That sorry excuse for a man has been following you," Eli says.
Liv lets out a sigh, "Fitz told you."
"Of course Fitz told me. He is as fed up with this as the next person. Edison is going to get what's coming to him," Eli says with certainty.
"Daddy, it's not all his fault," Olivia sighs.
"Listen, you already know you made a mistake. But he shouldn't have exploited that mistake. He might as well be a sex trafficker. He's taping women without their knowledge. That's dirty and that's low."
"He just seems like the most unlikely person to do something like that."
"I don't have to tell you, you have a lawsuit on your hands with him, once this is out."
Liv is fiddling with her fingers, "Fitz wants me to sue him after we embarrass him at this wedding."
"Don't expect me to feel sorry for that motherfucker because I don't."
Olivia laughs, "You don't use F-bombs often daddy."
"There are a lot of things I will tolerate from people but messing with my daughters is not one of them. He hurt you and therefore he's dead in my book."
"I love you so much daddy. And I can never say enough how sorry I am for embarrassing myself and our family this way."
Eli grabs her hand, "I am sorry he did what he did to you. And I am sorry he scared you into believing you messed up too much for this to be fixed."
"I tried to find Fitz in him because I missed Fitz so much. One night. I fell in love with him one night and I walked away because it was silly to think love at first sight was real," she lets out this smitten smile. "But it truly was."
"You know I am not that father that believes in marrying your own. Would have like for you to find a man, a black man, as devilishly handsome as me to love you? Of course I would have, but my wish for you and Savannah has always been one thing, happiness. Your mother and I only wanted you two to be happy and find other people to make you happy and be loved."
"Even if he is devilishly handsome and white," Liv winks.
"For Fitz, I'll make a hundred exceptions. He loves you a lot Peanut. And I know, when you two get married, he's going to take care of you," Eli smiles.
"I thought Savannah and I couldn't get married."
"I don't want you to but you have my blessing there. He's a good man and he won't rest until Edison is ruined and for that, he gets gold stars."
Olivia lays her head down on Eli's shoulder, "I don't know if I can keep doing this with Edison. I hate him so much. It's hard for me to fake with him and putting him off has been so hard. He makes my skin crawl. I just want to be with Fitz." She shakes her head. "That's all I want."
Eli kisses her forehead, "It will all be over soon sweetheart."
"From your mouth to God's ears," Liv says faintly as they keep riding with Charlie following behind.
Edison's mother has prepared dinner for them. He's going through some paperwork as his mother is yammering on about Olivia. He's been getting texts that Olivia did make it to the party with her father. Charlie is now keeping his eye on the car that brought her there.
"Olivia needs to learn who she is going to marry and what her place is Edison. You don't want her embarrassing you."
"Mother, I know how to handle Olivia. She knows what is expected of her and believe me she will comply as she should," Edison says.
"She's not serious enough about these wedding preparations. My only son is getting married and his wife to be is rather indifferent about it all."
Edison gets up from his chair to look his mother in the eye. "Mother, you know me. You know I don't go after anything that I don't actually want or think I can handle. Olivia is very special."
His mother turns to him, "She's definitely a looker. She's a beautiful girl. I just want her to care about you the way you care about her."
Without thinking, Edison says, "She will.." He stops himself, "She does."
She gives his face a motherly pat, "I just don't want her to mess up your career. Edison Davis is going places."
Edison kisses his mother on the cheek as he walks away, "And Olivia Pope is going to help me get there."
The party was fun as expected. Olivia loves to see her dad commingle with his old work friends. He has always been highly revered to them. She can admit her mind wasn't really where it should have been as she couldn't wait to see Fitz. They haven't been together in so long because they weren't sure just what Edison had been up to. Now they know he's been having her followed, so they've played it safe. Fitz had it all worked out. Another car would pick up Olivia at a private entrance while the other car that Charlie followed would pick up her father in the same spot as well and leave. It worked out perfectly because Charlie was waiting all night. The party was over and he never saw Olivia and Eli leave. The original car takes Eli home and the other brings Olivia to Fitz.
Olivia makes her way to Fitz's loft. She's never been there before. They didn't want to take any chances with Edison lurking. She would never tell Fitz how nervous she is about seeing his place. She feels like this is the beginning for them. The beginning they need. Fitz knows after tomorrow, everything will be different and he wants tonight to be the start of that. They've been sneaking around stealing moments to be together. He wants them to be free and focused on each other. He looks around his loft, which takes up two whole floors. It has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The kitchen overlooks the harbor. The Living and Dining rooms are just as large and the night lights illuminating off the windows make for the perfect setting.
The car arrives at Fitz's. She takes a deep breath and she looks up toward the building. She brought an overnight bag. The driver, Billy, goes into the trunk and pulls it out. She hears the trunk slam and takes another deep breath. She finally says to herself, What are you so nervous about Olivia? You two have been together before. But that was two years ago and she's waited so long for this moment. They both have. The door opens to the car and she was expecting to see Billy, but it was Fitz. She smiles as she takes his outreached hand. Once she's out of the car, he envelopes her in his arms.
"Finally," he whispers against her lips.
"Finally," she smiles.
"Let's go upstairs," he breathes into her mouth. Before she can answer he turns to Billy, "That will be all for tonight. You know what to do tomorrow."
"Yes sir!" Billy nods. He turns and gets in the car.
Liv looks at Fitz curiously, "What happens tomorrow?"
"Let's not worry about that right now," Fitz says as he takes her hand and begins to lead her inside the building. They get on the elevator and Liv notices he presses 9. She thought he lived on the top floor. The ride on the elevator is quiet. They keep stealing looks at each other. They make it to the 9th floor as the double elevator door opens.
Liv is immediately taken aback. He leads her off the elevator and she is met with this open space that's so perfectly decorated. It's so Fitz. But it's so warm and inviting. Fitz watches as she takes it all in. She loves the view of Boston and the harbor that can be seen out of his expansive windows. "This is beautiful. I would never leave."
He comes up behind her, momentarily startling her, wrapping his arm around her waist, "That is exactly why I brought you here. I want you to never leave."
She turns to him smiling, "You know I have to leave at some point." Fitz looks at her as if to say, maybe not.
He turns her to him, "I have imagined this so many times. You are finally here with me. I imagined being totally infatuated with you while admiring your beauty, your body, and that smile," he smiles back as she's all flushed and embarrassed. "I never gave up on that."
She drops her head, "I'm sorry."
He lifts her chin up, "For what?"
"I'm sorry I wasted so much of our time."
"You didn't, we did. I never should have let you go that morning. I knew what I felt was real. I knew a one night wasn't all I wanted."
"I want you and us so much but Edison, he's…"
"Let's not talk about Edison tonight," Fitz places his finger gently on her lips.
"We have to Fitz. He's having me followed. His mother is on my back about the wedding, which is in 3 months. I can't last that long. He makes me sick to my stomach. I just feel like you and I are never going to have a chance."
He pulls her closer to him, "Do you trust me?"
"Of course I trust you but that's not the point. Edison…" Before she can finish her thought, Fitz lays a searing kiss to her lips. It makes her stumble back. He catches her by the small of her back. She grabs a hold to his shoulders for more balance as their tongues duel and lips disappear into each other. She brings her arms around his neck, kissing him with everything she has in her. They finally break for air. She licks her lips, tasting him and her together "Fitz," she sighs.
"Tonight is for us and I am not letting Edison take this from us."
"But tomorrow when we come out of our bubble we still have to deal with Edison. Fitz, we have to do something."
He gently leads her over to the chaise lounge chair, easing her down to it, "I promise you. This is all going to work out. Edison is going to get what's coming to him and you and are going to be together. Tomorrow won't be like all the other tomorrow's we've had the last couple of months. It's going to be better."
She shakes her head in almost agitation. It's like he's not listening to her, "Fitz."
He picks her up, surprising her, "Can I make love to you tonight? We have a lot of lost time to make up for?"
"Can you promise me that we truly do have a forever?"
"I promise you that after tomorrow, we can start our lives together. Tonight is the start of that."
"What are you planning? Fitz, we can't do anything stupid here. He's always been one step ahead of us."
"I am doing what I have to do for you and for us," Fitz answers as he brings another peck to her lips that she's been biting all night out of worry.
"Put me down, I can walk," she says playfully, slapping his chest.
"Didn't I say tonight is our night?" He says as he smirks. She shakes her head in agreement. "Then let me work my magic woman."
And with that, Fitz walks her upstairs, holding her tightly in his arms. The second floor to his loft is even more impressive than the first floor. She looks around as he walks them into his bedroom with the Cal-King bed in the middle. He knows it's cheesy and cliche, the rose petals on the bed. But, they are different colored roses. The candles lit in the room are reflecting off of the expansive windows.
"Fitz this is beautiful," she smiles as he eases her down.
He turns her around, so she is facing him, "You are the most beautiful lady in the world. And 2 years ago you walked in my life and I stupidly let you go. I am not letting Edison or any other damn person take you away from me again. Every night is going to be like tonight."
She smiles, "That's not possible."
"It will be my job to make sure it is." She can't help but let the tears fall. "I know you are scared Livvie and I know we had a plan but I can't let him do this to you in the meantime. I am going to get you out of this now and I just need you to trust me."
"Make love to me," she says sexily and full of lust and need.
He gently moves her to the bed where they fall back. He plans to show her just how much he loves her in every way tonight.
Edison is in his office finishing up some of his work. His mother has retired to her room. She's got her own permanent room in the house. She's been milling around Edison's offer in her head, Edison's offer for her to move in. It hasn't been discussed with Olivia yet that when she gains a husband, she gains a live in mother in law
Edison's cell phone rings and he picks up, before Charlie can answer, "Is my soon to be bride back home where she should be?"
"Not exactly," Charlie answers.
"What is not exactly? Don't play fucking games with me Charlie. Where is Olivia?"
"I don't know," Charlie says with a hint of fear in his voice.
What's going to happen next?
