Chapter 2
Gojo had his limitless technique active, and Josefu knew this practice too well. 'There's no way I can beat Gojo in a fight. What I have to do is find the portal, just like every other dimension. Once I find that thing, this dimension will return to how it was before those forces jammed into this place. I need to build distance between me and him and find where it is. Thank God I don't have any additional objectives to fulfill before the portal opens. I would know if there were…' Josefu ranted in his mind, backing away from Gojo. Gojo smirked as he walked toward Josefu. "Why so tense?" Gojo asked, amused at the situation. Gojo continued, "You've caused a massive uproar, you know. But, before I take you to your trial, I want to see what you can do. So don't run now…" Josefu gritted his teeth. 'Hang on…' Josefu mused, 'My curse energy sensed that cursed spirit from before… maybe I can sense Gojo's movements too!'
Josefu stretched out his cursed energy like before, creating lines of cursed energy as thin as a fishing line. However, thanks to Gojo's six-eyes technique, he saw Josefu's cursed energy and its movements, knowing it wasn't a technique as it was a basic manipulation of cursed energy. Despite that fact, Gojo was admittedly impressed with the level of mastery and control of the cursed energy Josefu had on display, making Gojo even more curious about what kind of curse technique(s) Josefu had.
Through the stretched cursed energy, Josefu didn't just sense Gojo's cursed energy and his limitless technique. The detection of the curse energy was precise enough for Josefu to sense the flow of Gojo's cursed energy through his body and curse techniques, resulting in a sudden realization for Josefu that occurred as Gojo stepped forward.
Each time Gojo moved, a signal emerged within his cursed energy before his body took a step, emphasized by his limitless technique, which changed its positioning with each action. Each movement becomes physically initiated by electrical signals channeled through nerves. Yet the curse energy of all living beings spikes in intensity with slim margins before every movement they take no matter how small the muscle, all detected by Josefu's cursed energy. From this information, Josefu began to read Gojo's movements like an open book and visualized all of Gojo's future actions. The process led to a precognition of movement that Josefu latched onto as he was no stranger to combat. Gojo suddenly rushed toward Joesfu with a punch ready to hit. Josefu sensed the movements through the curse energy spiking in Gojo's right arm and reinforced his body with enough cursed energy to make a preemptive dodge, avoiding Gojo's punch. This series of movements happened in mere seconds.
"Oh, my…" Gojo uttered, a wide smile playing along his features, "Let's see the width of your endurance then." Gojo began a fast-paced onslaught of attacks, Josefu dodging every attack with ease. Josefu read Gojo's fake-outs and jukes, avoiding many hits with slight adjustments to his position, only making large movements when necessary. This conservation of energy, combined with a supreme condition from the curse energy reinforcing his body, meant Josefu was not only enduring the constant barrage, but he also had the position to analyze Gojo's fighting style and work out how to run from him.
After a while, Josefu felt a surge of intuition telling him to strike Gojo in the solar plexus, activating the first of two techniques engraved into his soul. Flames began to emerge in Josefu's hands. Now that his intuition activated the technique, Josefu could control the flow of it. Before Gojo attacked again, Josefu compressed the flame between his fingers, forming a spinning sphere he launched at Gojo. Gojo smirked as the sphere touched the infinity between him and it, digging into the infinity with its spinning. "So, this is your technique?" Gojo asked. The sphere of fire suddenly burst, generating the blast of a small fire bomb that sent Gojo three meters away from Josefu. Gojo smiled, feeling as confident as ever as he proceeded to rush Josefu again and again. Meanwhile, Josefu kept Gojo back with more firebombs.
Sensing the walls around him, Josefu realized a curse was speeding toward him and Gojo. The curse had its sights on him and was scrambling to catch him off guard. Josefu used three firebombs at once to push Gojo back farther than before as flames wrapped around his arms and hands like snakes. Once the curse appeared, it opened its mouth to swallow Josefu whole. Josefu was unfazed by the jaws of death as he punched the curse, setting it ablaze as it crumbled into nothing from the impact of the flame punch. The flames around Josefu's arms and legs, refined the curse energy already reinforcing them, leading to greater strength and speed than was possible before.
This kind of strength was familiar to Josefu. Before this moment, Josefu was once a 30-year-old woman living in a jungle of predators and hazardous wildlife that threatened to consume him or when he was her at the time. Yet, the fire and strength he possessed then were enough for him to survive as a female in such a wild landscape. This jump was only the second to last jump Josefu experienced before he arrived in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Gojo saw the entire exchange, clearly intrigued as his smile grew wider. "It seems those old geezers were right to be wary of your power," Gojo began as the flames around Josefu's limbs disappeared, reappearing as firebombs between his hands again. Gojo continued, "Your skill with that technique is fascinating… It's equally fascinating that you aren't saying anything about it. Are you the secretive type?" Josefu kept his mouth shut. 'I don't want to kill Gojo, just push him away,' Josefu thought, 'Besides, it's more advantageous for me if he stays alive anyway.' It was a selfish decision bred from selflessness but a necessary one. If Josefu killed Gojo, all of jujutsu society and the curses would fear him, leading to worse complications. Besides, Josefu hated spreading despair to the people around him unless they deserved it.
Gojo rushed Josefu again, eager to continue. While Josefu kept Gojo away with firebombs, he thought, 'At least Gojo hasn't used his technique blue or reversal red. It means he sees me as not worthy of them. This perception is a good thing. Gives me a chance to get away…' Eventually, Josefu launched a multitude of firebombs at Gojo, all being held in place by Gojo's limitless technique. Using Gojo's tendencies to his benefit, Josefu used the firebombs to launch Gojo away bit by bit before sending three more to the last firebomb, blasting Gojo deep into the forest.
"Thank God…" Josefu exclaimed before he started running, avoiding every person around him. Josefu deactivated his technique, looking all over Tokyo. Yet, no matter where he looked, he couldn't find a pull or a sign leading him to the portal. This development was odd as when there weren't any other objectives he had to complete, the forces that forced him into these dimensions would give him a sign. Then Josefu noticed several slabs of rock next to him, shimmering with a purple reflection he knew belonged to the forces. Josefu assembled the pieces, and his eyes widened in horror as he read the message on the slab. Suffer for our amusement, it read.
After reading the slab, Joesfu's heart sank as it faded to dust. Josefu realized that the forces set up other objectives for him to complete before the portal opened. Yet, they deliberately kept these objectives hidden from him. Suddenly, Josefu flew into the air, and when he saw what it was, he saw Gojo's technique blue, pulling him towards Gojo. 'Oh no…' Joesfu thought as Gojo smirked.
