Chapter 2- A Sunflower in Bloom
Himawari Uzumaki is 12 years old when she graduates from the Academy at the top of her class. She had worked hard and became a skilled ninja. Her family was proud of her, especially her little sister Naori, her fat toddler fingers holding onto Hima in celebration.
The graduation ceremony was a grand affair. The entire village had gathered to celebrate the young ninjas who had completed their training. When she exited the building with her headband her family shouted the loudest, Big sis Hanabi, Big Brother Konohamaru, her cousin Mirei, Jiji, her parents, and her little sister all surrounded her with cheers.
Hinata and Naruto were beaming with pride. They knew that their daughter had a bright future ahead of her.
Himawari was excited and nervous at the same time. She had worked hard to get to this point, but she knew that the real challenges lay ahead. She was determined to become a great ninja like her father but also to be kind like her mother.
After she became a genin, Himawari chose to specialize in medical ninjutsu.
She knew that hurting people was not in her nature, much like her mother. She wanted to use her skills to heal people instead.
Himawari enrolled in the school her mother founded, The Uzumaki-Hyuga Medical Ninjutsu Academy. After Hanabi reshaped the Hyuga Hinata wanted to provide another use for the Byakugan but the school was open to everyone who wanted to learn.
This was her mother's legacy and Himawari has always been in awe of her mother's gentle strength.
She enrolled in the academy and began her training. She learned about the human body, herbs, medicines, and poisons. She learned how to heal wounds and cure diseases.
A few months later, Himawari set out on her first mission with her teammates Yuina Itomaki and Ehō Norimaki, accompanied by their Jonin instructor Akimari Muzo. Their mission: retrieve a rare herb from the dense forest of the Land of Fire for the Uzumaki-Hyuga Medical Ninjutsu Academy. The herb was essential for the treatment of a rare disease that had affected several villagers in the region. Himawari was excited and nervous at the same time.
Her entire family was worried about her, especially her little sister Naori. Naori was too young to understand the dangers of being a ninja, but she knew that her sister was going on a mission. She was scared that something bad might happen to her sister. Naruto and Hinata tried to reassure her that everything would be fine, but they were worried too.
" Do you have everything?" Hinata asked worriedly as she checked her daughter's bag to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything.
" I have everything, Mom" Himawari answers confidently.
Tears swell in Naori's eyes as she clings to Naruto's Hokage cloak, " Hima stay," she begs.
" Don't worry Nori" Naruto says gently as he begins bouncing his youngest daughter up and down trying to soothe her.
" Hima is a strong and capable ninja she'll be home before you know it, dattebayo" He says loudly.
"Can I go yet?" Boruto asked annoyed.
" It's not like it's a big beal or anything all ninjas leave the village at some point." he continued
" Boruto!" Hinta scolded him.
" It's okay big brother, you don't have to worry about me," she said cheerfully knowing her brother was just pretending not to care.
"Whatever" he huffed and folded his arms.
"Everyone time go go" her Jonin instructor shouted and started heading out the village gates.
" well I'm off, bye I'll be back soon," Himawari said and smiled at her family before running out the gates after her team.
" and where are you going?" Naruto asked as he suddenly appeared behind Boruto who had snuck off.
" Um… nowhere," he said shakily he hadn't expected to get caught before he left the gates.
"If we move now… we can catch up with them before Mom catches us" Naruto proposed. No way was his baby girl leaving home without him.
" Are you sure about that?" Hinata asked in her scary voice balancing Naori on her hip.
" Um…it was his idea!" Boruto shouted as he threw his dad under the bus and ran far away.
" Hey you little punk" Naruto yelled.
"let's go home," Hinata said.
" … You're not mad that we were going after her ?" he said softly walking hand and hand with his wife through the village.
"Mostly that you were going to leave me behind" she responded.
They laughed and made their way to the Uzumaki household.
In the dense forest through the land of Fire, the group avoided obstacles, and traps along the way. On day 2 they finally reached the spot where the herb was supposed to be. But to their surprise, they found that the herb was guarded by a group of bandits.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? A bunch of little ninja brats?" one of the 4 bandits said.
" Children, be careful and be on your guard!" Muzo Sensei exclaimed.
Himarwari's teammates Yuina and Ehō went in formation with Himawari making up the rear.
Rule number 2: No medic ninja should stand on the front lines. Aunt Sakura's teaching echo in her ears
"We're not afraid of you, we are ninjas of the hidden leaf." Ehō boasted.
"Ehō, don't make them angry," Yuina said. She was nervous, they were just kids who didn't have any experience in the field.
" Yeah Ehō, don't make us angry" a second bandit sneered.
"If you want the plant you go through us, we'd make a killing on the black market for these."
" would you mind letting us bring some home, there are people in our village who are sick and need medicine. " Himawari asked, hoping they could come to a peaceful resolution.
" nsnajndnajnd- people are sick." the third bandit mocked.
"Enough of this step aside or else." Muzo sensei demanded.
" Or else this" Ehō said as he charged into battle, breaking their formation.
Everyone began fighting and from Himawari's position, she began sneaking over to the herbs and taking as many as she could fit in her bag.
Suddenly Yuina shouts in pain, as blood drips down her thigh from where the enemy kuni was imbedded.
" Yuina!" Himawari shouted as she ran towards her teammate and best friend.
" Time to finish you off," the bandit said cockily.
" Eight Trigrams 64 palms," Himawari said as she activated her byakugan and used her clan's jutsu to knock the enemy unconscious.
She took a deep breath and channeled her chakra into her hands just as she's practiced a hundred times and the familiar green glow emanated from them. She placed her hand over her friend's wound and slowly it began closing and the tissue started closing until there was nothing but a thin scar.
She wiped the sweat from her brow and when she looked up the fighting was over. ,
" Thank you Hima." Yuina said.
"Ehō, what you did was reckless and stupid and you put the entire team in danger" Muzo sensei lectured.
" I'm sorry." he hung his head in shame.
Himawari walked towards them and asked, "Are you guys alright?"
"Sensei took on most of the damage, you should heal him first," Ehō said dejectedly nursing his pride.
She healed her sensei and Ehō and they made their way back towards the village.
She retrieved the herb and their mission was a success. When they returned her family was overjoyed to see her safe and sound. Naori and Boruto both embraced their sister tightly. Himawari basked in the praise from her father as well as her Hokage.
