Invitation From Willow Creek Part 3

Jamal found his grandmother in the kitchen.

"Grandma," Jamal said. "I need your help."

Cece Jenkins turned and smiled at her grandson, "You want me to drive you and your friends to Willow Creek, right?" she asked.

Jamal looked stunned, "How did you know?" he asked.

Cece grinned, "I heard Casey put you on the spot a minute ago." she replied.

"Yeah," Jamal sighed. "I wish she wouldn't do that."

"She has faith in you to always come through for her and your friends." Cece smiled. "that's a pretty special thing."

Jamal smiled "Yeah, I suppose it is." he said.

Casey came into the kitchen, opened the cookie jar, and grabbed a cookie.

But she was caught red handed by her grandmother.

"Freeze that hand, Young Lady," Cece scolded Casey sharply. "it's almost supper time, my double fudge ripple chocolate macadamia nut cookies are for after dinner!"

Casey dropped the cookie she was holding and it landed back in the cookie jar.

"So. Grandma," Jamal asked, "will you drive us?"

"Sure." Cece said.

"Thanks, Grandma." Jamal said.

Over at the Carrero residence, Hector was washing up for dinner.

When Ghostwriter started fooling around with thw words on his tube of toothpaste.

"Cut it out, Ghostwriter!" Hector laughed.

Suddenly, a knock sounded on the bathroom door.

"Hector," Maritza Carrero, his mother called. "supper is nearly ready, time to set the table!"

"Be right there, Mom!" Hector called out through the bathroom door.

While Hector was setting the table, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get the door," Maritza said to Hector. "it's the Nguyen family, I have invited them over for supper."

"Okay, Mom." Hector said.

Before too long, everyone was seated at the table.

Maritza had made Puerto Rican style beans and rice for dinner.

Everyone ate and enjoyed the meal, except for 5-year-old Linda.

"Just a little bite, Linda?" Missis Nguyen asked.

"No! It'll taste yucky! I like our beans and rice a lot more!" Linda whined.
