It's been 2 days now since I brought the young girl to the hollow. She's been in a comatose state the entire time. Sammy is making sure she's healthy and giving her IV fluids but says that she won't wake up till she's ready to wake up.
It makes me sad to think about how much the poor girl must have gone through before I found her. Sammy says there was evidence of past domestic trauma inflicted on the poor girl. Scars and old injuries being a tale tale sign.
I've been going to check on the girl every few hours to see how she was doing or if she has woken up. I'm holding on to hope that if I talked to her it might reach her in this state and help wake her. I also saw it as fitting time to sit and work on weaving some more baskets for use at the hollow.
It's been hours now that I have sat here talking aimlessly while I weave baskets... It's peaceful till you remember the undead rule the world now. "How's sleeping beauty today?" Erin asked as she walked in the room. "The same. Shouldn't you be taking it easy? Sammy's gonna be mad at you, silly" I say shaking my head at Erin.
"I thought I'd come check on you since I had to come for a check up with Sammy anyway" She says grinning as she takes the basket I was working on. "Hey that was my basket" I pout before starting a new one. We sat for 30 minutes talking and making baskets when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.
I looked over to the little girl. "Mmmh" the girl groans while moving a bit. "Oh maybe she's gonna wake up" Erin says excitedly. "Hopefully I'm worried about her" I said setting my basket down and going over to the girl. "Hey little one I don't know if you can hear me but if you can It's time for you to wake up" I say grabbing her little hand.
Slowly her eyes start to open and she glances around the room before flinging herself up and scrambling away from us on the bed. "Woah easy we aren't gonna hurt you little one" I say holding my hands up and backing away a bit. "Who are you!? Where am I?" She says rapidly. "My names Erin and this is Willow, She's the one who found you passed out in the woods" Erin says drawing attention to herself.
"You found me?" She asks hesitantly looking at me. "Yes I did. I found you laying by a tree in the woods not very far from the river south of here." I said sitting down on the bed by her. "What's your name little one? Do you remember how you got there?" I asked curious. "My names Sophia. My mom and the group we were with was on the highway when a whole bunch of walkers came between the cars. So we all hid under cars to wait for them to go by. I thought they were all gone." She said tearfully. "I tried to crawl out and got chased by a walker into the woods. Rick chased after to help." She said looking down.
"He told me to hide in a stump and wait and if he took to long he said to follow the river back to the highway. I did what he said but I got lost and kept following the river as best I could." She said. "Oh I'm so sorry Sophia. I'll help you find your mom and group if they're still out there" I said determinedly. "Wow, really?" Sophia asked tearfully.
"Oh I wasn't expecting to see the little one awake" Sammy says walking into the room before I can answer. She walks over to us and grabs the charts she had made for Sophia. "Hello little one. My names Samantha, but I usually go by Sammy. Before everything happened I was a doctor." Sammy said smiling at Sophia. "Hello I'm Sophia" she says very nervously.
"What a pretty name. Sophia do you mind if I give you another check up now that you're awake? And can you tell us how long you were out there by yourself? Sammy asks turning to face Sophia fully.
"Ok... Um well, I remember being in the woods 5 days, I think. I was hiding from walkers in a cave by the river. I picked some berries I found and drank some water for the river to survive. I remember being really sick the last few days but the rest is blurry." Sophia said looking up at Sammy while she checked her eyes with a light. "When I found you Sophia you were running a high fever and was very dehydrated. We assume you got sick from drinking untreated water and it made you run fever and throw up." I said glancing between her and Sammy.
After about 10 minutes Sammy completed her check up on Sophia. "You're not dehydrated anymore but since you haven't had anything substantial in a while for food you should eat several small meals, get more rest in bed and slowly build your strength up till your back to full health." Sammy said while removing Sophia's IV.
"If you feel up to it, I can show you around? I'm sure you're probably really hungry too" I asked since I know Sammy needs to do a check up for Erin and will need some privacy. "Uh yeah that's fine" Sophia said getting up from the bed.
I lead Sophia out of the med room and showed her first to the kitchen area. "Let's get you something to eat shall we?" I say going to the cabinet to find something to make her.
After Sophia ate I continued showing her around the hollow. I showed her the wall and garden and animal pens while also pointing out the guest houses in the trees before showing her to my tree house. "You can stay with me for now" I said preparing a space for her.
