Trigger Warning: Loss Of Pregnancy
A lot can happen in three months and Harmony is certain she has been through it all. From helping Jensen ruling the Kingdom, through leading meetings with Lords and Ladies, to the resurface of a persistent threat, it seemed that Harmony was being thrown to the wolves without a sword to protect herself with.
However, of everything that happened, the one thing that Harmony was actually grateful for was something that she had learned one particular morning and something she couldn't wait to share with her family.
She had asked Donna and Justice to meet her in Jensen's study because she had something she needed to talk to them about. Both women agreed, but immediately asked if everything was alright. A smile was the only answer she gave them, before walking away, leaving them both confused.
Making her way to Jensen's study, Harmony greeted everyone she walked past, nobles and servants alike, thinking about how this was something they weren't expecting at all. As she reached the study's door, she greeted the two guards stationed there with a smile, receiving smiles in return.
As she walked inside, she saw that they were all already there waiting for her. She casually greeted them as Jensen stood up and walked around his desk to kiss her. Harmony kissed him back before settling in on one of the chairs across from Jensen's desk, with him standing next to her.
No one said anything, waiting for her to tell them why they were there, but Harmony wasn't speaking. Looking around her, she smiled, sure that what she was about to share with them was going to change things.
Taking a deep breath, she told them that she had gone to see the royal physician that morning because she hadn't been feeling well. Immediately the questions began, with Donna and Jensen asking what the physician had said and if she needed any medicine, and Justice just asking if she was going to be okay, with tears starting to pool in her eyes.
It was then that Harmony realized that by starting the conversation the way she did, it brought back some bad memories to Justice's mind. Harmony completely forgot that Justice's mother had died after becoming sick and, by hearing Harmony say that she hadn't been feeling well, it was clear that Justice was afraid that the same thing was going to happen to Harmony.
Harmony stood up from her chair and kneeled in front of Justice, telling her that she will be okay. She then asked her if she could keep a secret. Justice nodded and Harmony stood back up, leaning into her ear and telling her what she was wanting to tell them all.
Justice's face lit up and a smile broke out amidst tears when she heard what the secret was. Justice looked back at Harmony and asked her if she was sure. Harmony smiled and nodded, being quickly wrapped into one of Justice's signature hugs, making Harmony laugh at the young woman's reaction.
As Justice let go, Harmony asked her if she wanted to tell her father and grandmother what the secret was, seeing them both smiling but also looking a bit confused. Justice nodded, energetically, before turning and telling them the secret.
-"I'm gonna have a little brother or sister!"
Harmony chuckled at Donna and Jensen's reaction of complete shock, both trying to wrap their heads around what Justice had just said. The shock only lasted for a moment, though, and suddenly Jensen was standing right next to her, asking her if she was sure.
Harmony smiled softly at him and told him that the physician had confirmed it and that by all accounts, she should be three and half months already. Jensen could hardly believe, taking her in his arms and kissing her deeply. Once he finally let her go, his arms were quickly replaced by Donna's, who was just as happy to learn that she was about to have another grandchild.
Now, as she walks around the courtyard, just a few weeks later, with Donna and Justice, Harmony can't remember that day without smiling. It had been a surprise when the physician confirmed what she already suspected, but the reaction her family had had surprised her even more. She only wished she could've seen Elise's reaction when she read about it in the letter she had sent about a week earlier.
Her thoughts are halted when she hears horses entering the courtyard. She knows that they aren't expecting anyone and that there are no patrols out at the moment, so whoever this is, is definitely not expected.
Harmony approaches the newcomers, all men, all wearing black clothes, but keeps what she believes to be a safe distance. She hears a guard asking what is their business there, swords drawn and pointed at the group, even if they are outnumbered, since that entrance is usually reserved for nobles and her family.
The leader of the group tells the guard that they are there to speak to the King, as envoys sent by the rebels' leader and that they are seeking a peace treaty. Harmony has a bad feeling about this, but walks closer nonetheless, sending a guard to warn Jensen of what is happening, plus to bring a few more guards, as they dismount their horses.
Harmony tells them that the King will be there shortly and it's clear that they had just noticed her presence there. While she tells the man this, she discreetly signals Donna and Justice to leave, not wanting them there in case something went wrong.
Thinking back, Harmony would say she should've left with them, because the next thing she knows, a fight breaks out between the rebels and the guards. Harmony runs back, trying to make her way back to Donna and Justice, but realizes that she's too far away from them and there already is a couple of rebels between them.
Yelling at them to get inside, she tries to get away by heading towards another door, but, while Donna and Justice manage to get inside, Harmony gets cornered by one of the rebels. She knew then that this wasn't gonna well.
Harmony tries to reason with the man, but it's clear he doesn't wanna listen. He hits her with the handle of his sword, making her fall, and as soon as she is on the ground, he starts kicking her while yelling "Death to the royals!".
Harmony's screams and cries can be heard across the courtyard, breaking the hardest of hearts. Jared heard it first and it didn't take him long to find the source. Seeing his Queen on the floor, a rebel standing over and hurting her, made his anger burn even brighter in his chest.
Jared rushes to where Harmony is, cutting and slicing rebels as he goes, until he is standing face to face with the man that dared hurt his Queen. He wants to kill him, but he knows that Jensen will want to take time with this one, so, instead, he just wounds and disarms the man.
Once Jared hands the rebel to one of his trusted men, he kneels next to Harmony and knows immediately that something's wrong. Shouting for someone to get the King, he tries comforting Harmony until Jensen arrives, telling her she is safe and that she will be okay, her tears and whimpers of pain tightening his heart.
He hears footsteps running behind him and looks over his shoulder, seeing Jensen approaching fast. Jared stands up and gets out of the way, giving them some space and privacy. "I should've been faster.", he thinks, racking a hand over his hair, as he watches Jensen kneeling next to Harmony, fear sketched all over his face.
As soon as Jensen got close enough to see Harmony, he knows something's wrong. He kneels next to her and can tell that she's in pain. He asks her what is it and when she tells him that something's wrong and that it hurts, he immediately knows what she is talking about.
Picking her up in his arms, he rushes her to the royal physician, meeting his mother and daughter in the corridor just as he enters the Castle. The two women follow him, as they pass concerned people and leave them in their wake. All that Jensen cares about right now is making sure Harmony and their child are okay, to hell with everyone else.
Jensen makes it to the physician's ward and bursts through the door, placing Harmony on one of the beds. He quickly relays what Harmony had told him, but is asked to leave so the physician can assess Harmony. Jensen tries to argue, but he doesn't stand a chance when even his mother is telling him to leave.
Donna stays with Harmony, while Jensen waits in the corridor just outside of the ward, alongside Justice and a newly arrived Jared. Jared tells him how he has sent the surviving rebels to the dungeons and that they are just awaiting their punishment, before asking how Harmony is.
Jensen can't speak, worry and fear strangling him from the inside. He listens as Justice tells Jared what had happened when they arrived there, giving her a thankful look and a tight hug. He will always be amazed at how easily Justice, at just sixteen years old, could step into her role of Princess, even if she didn't really needed to do it with Jared. He guesses that it's her way to stay strong, something that he is having trouble with himself.
Time stretches on, but eventually Donna emerges from the ward. Jensen's the first to ask how Harmony is. Donna tells him that she will be okay, that the physician had given her something so she could rest and that she was being taken to their chambers as they spoke.
Jensen then asks what he believes would be the scariest question he could ask at that moment. He looks at his mother and asks about the baby, seeing from the corner of his eyes the look of surprise on Jared's face. He had wanted to tell Jared the moment he found out he was going to be a father again, but he and Harmony had decided to give it a bit more time before sharing the news with anyone else.
The look on Donna's face told him everything he needed to know, even before he heard the words that came out of her mouth. "I'm sorry. The baby is gone.". He hears the gasp, followed by a sob, coming from Justice, and saw the sadness in his mother's face, right before he loses it.
Punching the wall behind him, he lets out a scream, before being restrained by Jared. Jensen breaks down in his friend's arms, the man not saying a word, before pulling himself together. Looking back at Jared, he tells him that he wants the man responsible for the assault on Harmony and the death of their child to be tortured and executed, alongside the other rebels, the following morning.
Donna tries to convince him to think this through, since it will certainly ignite the rebel cause even more, but Jensen doesn't care. He needs to know that the men that came to his home, that hurt his wife and killed his unborn child, will pay for all they have done, no matter the consequences.
Jensen leaves for his chambers, wanting to be with Harmony and to make sure she won't wake up alone, leaving Donna, Justice and Jared behind. He knows that maybe his mother is right, and things will get a lot worse, but right at that moment, he doesn't care. All he cares about is getting justice for Harmony and that's exactly what he is going to do.
