"You can see why we wanted a reality with friendly faces." Cordelia put in. "They wanted Xander to use one of his abilities to out Troubled people. We weren't sure they could even be trusted. Not to mention, they willingly told us that there were others who would attempt to use force to make him help them."
"Are you confirming you have extra abilities?"
"We trust Claudia and she doesn't act like you guys are a problem." Xander said. "So I will confirm, I have extra abilities."
"I will confirm, I do too." Cordelia said.
"Can you tell me anything about these abilities?"
"I can See beyond the surface of things." Xander said. "And no, that doesn't mean x ray vision or that I can see through your clothes. It means I can see things that are hidden. Beyond that, I can't really explain it. It's a psychic ability. I also have telekinetic and pyrokinetic abilities."
"I get premonitions." Cordelia said. "And am slightly telepathic. Which means I can detect the presence of a mind, but not read it. Which is how I know that Mrs. Barlow just came into the house."
"And I have a kind of heightened instinct which tells me she can't be trusted. So I think we should take this conversation somewhere else. We've already packed our belongs since Claudia agreed to give us a ride back to the Warehouse with her."
"I don't trust Beverly either. So I agree, we should go somewhere else to finish this conversation." Allison stood up and led them out of the house.
Once they settled onto a bench in a park nearby, Allison continued her questioning. "So why did you resume traveling after you accomplished what you set out to accomplish?"
"It was a suggestion on our parents part. They're monitoring us from our home reality, by the way. They wanted to give us something to do. We don't quite fit in back home anymore. By traveling the multiverse, we could learn and grow into our abilities. At the same time, we could try to help out. Nothing big or dramatic, like saving the world. Just help someone feel better or give someone a helping hand. Stay connected to people, that kind of thing."
"More parents should charge their kids with doing stuff like that. There'd be fewer jerks in the world if they did." Allison pointed out.
"I agree. And neither of us has a problem with helping out. In fact, that's what started this whole thing. I just wanted to help and there were others who were trying to tell me I wasn't good enough to be allowed to help. If someone doesn't want my help, I'm not going to force it on them. But no one has the right to tell me I'm not good enough to be allowed to help." Xander said.
"And helping has made me a nicer person." Cordelia added. "I was a mean bitch before. I still can be. But now I try not to be."
"So you mentioned Claudia is giving you a ride to the Warehouse. Does that mean you're taking them up on their job offer?"
"We discussed it and decided, yes we are. Reality jumping can be fun. But it can also be exhausting and even terrifying. Staying in one spot for awhile, will help us regain our balance. And the Warehouse has the potential to be a fun job." Xander grinned.
"You do know Warehouse clearance extends to Eureka? The scientists are curious about how you saw the fluctuation in the hologram. You may be asked to come here and help find flaws in other technology we're developing as well."
"I have no problems with that." Xander assured her. "Math and me don't get along, but I am a self professed scifi geek. If I can help the scientists, I assure you, it would be a dream come true."
"The Department of Defense may issue clearance as well. Some Alpha cases cross Warehouse cases. It isn't always easy to know the difference between an artifact causing issues and an Alpha. We'll also have to get you official identities. Would you like to keep the names you have?"
"I'd like to change my last name." Xander said. "It's my adoptive father's name. He's someone I hope never to see again. My foster father's name is Duncan McCleod and my birth father's name is Thor, although he also goes by Eric Troels. So any of those last names would be fine with me."
"I'm fine with keeping my name the way it is." Cordelia said, taking Xander's hand in hers and offering silent support.
"Then I'll get started on creating new identities for you. I should have something within a couple of weeks. Before we go though, I need you to sign some non disclosures. Eureka is highly Classified. And since you're talking a job with the Warehouse, you'll be considered consultants for Eureka. If the Department of Defense issues you clearance as well, you'll also be considered consultants with them. Legally, we can't enforce them right now, because you don't officially exist, but signing them will tell us you understand the Classified nature of our work and promise to abide by that. As well as not discussing your experiences with time and reality travel with anyone outside the need to know."
"It's a matter of honor. I understand, my foster father felt honor was important and should not be an outdated concept." Xander assured her, as he and Cordelia both signed the paperwork.
"Well then, I'll say goodbye and let you get going. I'll have the paperwork on your new identities delivered to the Warehouse. Have a safe trip." Allison shook both their hands and headed back to her car.
They both thanked her and went to find Claudia at Carpe Diem. She was ready to go and the three of them set out on the trip back to the Warehouse.
