Within a large room in the Ethereal Realm, a group of powerful-looking deities and the like were having an emergency meeting.
Most of them looking like they had just been in a fight.
After their bitter defeat at the hands of the Undying One, the Gods and Goddesses were having an emergency meeting.
"Shimabuku did well. Sealing the Undying One away in those stones." Hanuman, the Monkey King, said, a bandage wrapped around his forehead.
"Sure. After we softened up that immortal demon for him." Horus, the Egyptian Hawk God of the Air, stated, his arm in a sling.
"Oh, please! We were soundly defeated and you know it!" Artemis, goddess of the hunt, said as she tried to repair her bow.
"Well, maybe if some of us had been actually helping..." Ares, the Greek god of War, growled at a certain blond woman across from him.
"I am the Goddess of Love! I don't do punchie!" Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, snapped.
"Enough! Let's get this meeting started." Zeus, the king of the Greek Gods, said.
All eyes turned towards Apollo and Athena who started off the meeting.
"As you know, the Undying One was sealed within the Moaning Stones, which were separated and scattered to the three corners of the Ibandi Tribe's kingdom." Apollo, Greek god of the Sun, said, reading from a lengthy scroll.
"However, according to the Seers, it will be another 6000 years before he is released." Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare, said.
"Great! How are we going to deal with him when he returns?" Hermes, the messenger of the gods said, the feathers on his feet ruffled.
"Our powers are beginning to fade. Perhaps we need a new source of strength?" Thoth, Egyptian god of wisdom, said.
"You mean more demi-gods?" Hephaestus, the Greek blacksmith of the gods, asked.
"More worshipers?" Aphrodite asked.
"How will they believe in us when we were soundly defeated by The Undying One?" Poseidon, Greek god of the sea, asked.
"There is another issue that has come up." Apollo said.
"Wonderful!" Aphrodite huffed.
"The Seers have predicted that several more problems will arise in future." Athena said.
"In future? When in future?" Artemis asked.
"According to them... around the time of the Undying One's return." Apollo said.
"So 6000 years. Do tell." Shiva, the Hindu god of life, said.
"It will begin with the return of Gozer the Gozarian to Earth." Athena said.
"Gozer? But he was sent back to his own dimension after that giant Slor incident. He can't return to Earth unless some mortal was stupid enough to actually summon him." Odin, Allfather of Asgard, said.
"Someone will. Someone named Evo Shandor." Athena explained.
"After what he did last time... I can't begin to imagine the destruction he will cause the next time." Horus said.
"And how much trouble will he cause this time?" Hathor, Egyptian goddess of love, asked.
"Not as much as you would think. He will be stopped by... a group of humans." Apollo said.
The group looked at each other in confusion as silence overtook the Hall.
"What? How is that possible?" Nephthys, goddess of protection, asked.
"The Seers weren't too specific. But apparently these humans... called Ghostbusters... will be able to stop Gozer's rampage." Athena said.
"I see. When will this happen?" Nephthys asked.
"According to the Seers, on the human calendar of 1984." Athena said. "Which is nearly 6000 years from now."
"There will be other instances around that time." Apollo said.
"Such as?" asked a curious Thoth.
"Well... Hob Anagarak will be released from the prison the humans placed him in." Apollo said, going down what looked like a very long list.
"And who released him?" Isis, wife of Osiris, asked.
"A human attempting to put him on display for profit." Apollo explained.
"If the humans released that oaf then they can deal with him." Hera, wife of Zeus, said with annoyance.
"Apparently they will." Apollo said.
The Gods were not too upset at hearing this.
Hob Anagarak was set on Earth to rule over the planet they had created. But then they found out he was planning to lay waste to the world with his army of ghosts. Had the humans, who were also created by the Gods, not imprisoned him when they did, he would have done just that.
The humans couldn't destroy Hob, but they could imprison him for as long as possible.
"Anything else?" Odin asked.
"Yes. Apparently Cathulhu will finally be awoken to attack the world of man at around the same time." Apollo said.
"By humans? That is the only way he could be awoken." Thoth asked.
"It was part of the deal we made with him." Athena stated.
"I'm sensing a pattern here." Hanuman said.
"How was it that that Eldrich creature was able to get us to align the stars every sixty years just so he could be awoken by some foolish humans?" Artemis groaned.
"He had very good negotiators." Bast, the panther god, said.
"There is also the issue of The Door." Apollo said.
"The Door?" Hera asked, sounding a little confused.
"The Door that leads to the Nether Realm." Athena explained.
"But that door wasn't meant to be opened until Doomsday." Thoth said.
"The End of The World." Nephthys added.
"Apparently someone will open it early." Apollo said.
"Well, it isn't an issue for us. The Door was meant to be opened anyway. If some human was stupid enough to open it ahead of schedule..." Set, god of the desert, said.
"It will cause some trouble... but it will be closed until its original opening time." Athena said.
"Then there is the issue of The Four Horsemen." Apollo said.
"Those scoundrels?" Thor, Asgardian God of Thunder, asked.
"We can't keep them in check forever. So far we've been able to hold off their devastation of the world." Artemis said.
"They will be imprisoned about 5000 years from now. By someone named Saint Theopolis. They will remains as such for 1000 years, then they will be released by someone named... Janine Melnitz... and then reimprisoned." Apollo explained.
"By these so-called Ghostbusters?" Set asked.
"Yes."
"The Parallelogram will be destroyed by these so-called Ghostbusters." Athena said.
"The Parallelogram? That limbo dumping ground we originally created for wayward ghosts?" Loki, tricker of Asgard, said.
"Most avoid it." Frigga, wife of Odin, said.
"Good riddance." Hera scoffed.
"What about The Pillar?" Thor asked.
"The Pillar? What about it?" Loki asked.
"We created that pillar to hold up that island in the northern continent." Thor said.
"We only did that because that tribe wanted some place safe to live." Thoth said. "Besides, it has enough Axel grease to keep it spinning for eons."
"The Seers say there will be an issue with it later, as several ghosts will attempt to block the grease from spinning the gyroscope and cause the Pillar to crack and sink the island, but the Ghostbusters will deal with it as well." Athena said.
"Then why bring it up if it will not be an issue for us?" Loki huffed.
"We're getting to that." Athena said.
"There is also the issue of the conflict between the forces of Good and Evil...which will take place in the 1980's, at the scheduled time." Apollo said.
"That conflict that only happens once every 500 years?" Set asked.
"And only for one soul. Hardly seems worth the effort, really." Loki said.
"You wouldn't say that if it was your soul they were fighting for." Nephthys said.
"The soul of an immortal is more valuable than that of a mortal." Thoth said.
"It was because they are fighting for only one soul that we allowed them to wage their battle. It was hardly a consequence to us." Ares said.
"Especially since the soul gets no say in the matter." Athena said.
"Which is why they were allowed to wage their battle." Thoth said.
"Evil gets a chance to control a soul, and good is obligated to keep that soul free." Hathor said.
"And apparently this battle will also involve the Ghostbusters." Apollo said.
"We're certainly hearing a lot about these Ghostbusters. For a group of mortals who have yet to be born." Horus said.
"Funny you should mention that. It is the soul of one of the Ghostbusters they will be fighting for." Apollo said.
"Now that's interesting." Horus smirked.
"There is also the issue of a young man named Jeremy Whittington who will unleash The Dark Entity upon the world. Apparently because his fiancee Cindy refused to marry him when he wanted." Apollo said.
"And what will the Dark Entity do?" Thor asked.
"Unleash Ragnarok." Apollo said.
"Humph! Human egos will become more fragile than they are now, it seems. To destroy the world over a simple rejection of the heart." Loki huffed.
"Don't underestimate the pain of a forlorn love. It can drive a person to do desperate things." Hathor said, and Aphrodite agreed.
"There is an issue concerning a renegade Sandman who will attempt to put the entire world to sleep for 500 years." Athena said.
"If the humans are asleep for 500 years, there won't be any wars or pollution or..." Aphrodite said.
"But how can they make their dreams come true if they are asleep for 500 years? How can they learn or raise themselves up if they are slumbering?" Artemis asked.
"That is only possible if they have the power, knowledge and resources to achieve their dreams." Frigga said.
"Still... it's an inconvenience we cannot allow. Even if only for half a millennia." Osiris, the Egyptian God King, said.
"And will these Ghostbusters deal with this as well?" Isis, wife of Osiris, asked.
"They will." Apollo said.
"What about Proteus?" Zeus asked.
"What about him?" Odin asked.
"His mentality is much like Gozers. Were he to free himself..."
"He will cause trouble for the Ghostbusters around the same time period." Apollo said.
"Yes. Which is why we imprisoned them both in their own pocket dimensions." Zeus said.
"Will he be taken care of as well?" Odin asked.
"He will, but..." Apollo said.
"Then moving on!" Set snapped.
Apollo just looked at the desert god in annoyance.
"Samhain will escape from his confinement, that he will be placed in in the 7th Century, to plague mankind. He will attempt to cover the world in darkness." Apollo said.
"In the 1980's?" Aphrodite asked.
"Correct."
"But he isn't strong enough for that." Thoth said.
"Not yet." Apollo said.
"But he will become strong enough in a few millennia." Athena added.
"And let me guess, the Ghostbusters will be able to deal with him." Horus said.
"They will. Again, difficult, but they will be able to defeat him." Apollo said.
"Anything else?" Frigga asked.
"Mee-Krah will return to the human world and lay waste to civilization, like he has several other places on Earth." Apollo said.
"I thought that mindless jellyfish only awakens once every thousand years." Poseidon said.
"He does, simply to replenish his energy. Then he goes back to sleep." Thoth said.
"And every time he does, his rising body temperature will lay waste to whatever region he is in, turning it into a desert." Apollo said.
"And in 1988 he will head to the largest concentration of spirits... which will be the city of New York, on the Island of Manhattan, where the Pillar is located." Athena said.
"Will the Ghostbusters be able to defeat him as well?" Hathor asked.
"It will take an overwhelming force of energy... but they will be able to stop him from destroying the city." Apollo said.
"Good."
"Anshar and Kishar will be awoken for their millennia battle during this time as well." Athena said.
"And this is significant because...?" Marduk, the god of the city, asked.
"Yeah. Those two Sumarian Gods hate each other, but cannot kill each other because they are immortal." Aphrodite said.
"Plus we managed to make it so that they are only able to appear on Earth once every thousand years to fight their duel. And only for a day on that little island of theirs." Nephthys said.
"The terms of their battle cannot be changed, even if we lose power before their next sortie." Thoth said.
"They will apparently take control of two of the mortal Ghostbusters in order to try and kill each other." Athena said.
"Oh, that should be interesting." Set mused.
"There are several other smaller instances that will take place around the same time." Apollo said.
"For example?" Loki asked.
"An army of Trolls will invade Manhattan island, where the Pillar is. A group of Valkyries will terrorize the humans. A thief named Blackie will steal a set of cursed jewels belonging to Egyptian pharaoh King Todd and be mutated into a monstrous guardian. A leprechaun will curse a family line named O'Malley to be attacked by a Bog Hound after they steal his pot of gold." Apollo said, reading down the list.
"Greedy humans. Get what they deserve." Hera huffed.
"Necksa and his undines will attack the human world due to the pollution caused by the humans." Apollo said.
"Apathy. How pitiful." Poseidon grumbled.
"The five-headed dragon Tiamat will appear in New York in 1987 and..." Athena said.
"The Ghostbusters will defeat it?" Horus asked.
"Yes." Apollo said.
"How does Tiamat count as a small instance?" Hathor asked.
"It won't cause as much destruction or chaos as Mee-Krah or Samhain." Apollo stated.
"Mostly because Marduk will be there to help defeat the dragon." Athena said.
"Of course I will!" Marduk said proudly.
"Anything else?" Nephthys asked.
"A human named Cubby will make a deal with a demon, to cause every chicken on Earth to vanish." Apollo said.
"Are you for real? How is that important?" Ares grumbled in disbelief.
"You mean apart from world-wide hunger?" Frigga asked.
"Are chickens really that important?" Set asked.
"The Seers wouldn't mention this if it wasn't." Odin said.
"Fine." the desert god huffed.
"I take it the Ghostbusters will deal with that as well?" Artemis asked.
"Yes." Apollo said.
"Next on the list?" Loki asked.
"Lord Kildarby and his men, and his giant Bird, will become a threat to Manhattan Island and its people." Apollo said.
"There is also a issue of Captain Jack Higgins and his pirate crew." Athena said
"Who?" Hathor asked.
"They haven't been born yet." Thoth explained.
"Ah."
"They will terrorize Manhattan Island." Apollo said.
"Who? Lord Kildarby or Captain Jack Higgins?" Horus asked.
"Actually both of them. Really." Athena said.
"Will the Ghostbusters deal with them?" he asked.
"Yes, but...
"Moving on!" Loki grumbled.
"The spirit, Belleranthon, will terrorize a very nice woman named Agatha Faversham for 70 years after her father, Charles, summoned him and then imprisoned him in the attic of his house." Apollo said.
"Belleranthon? That misfit is far too difficult for a mortal to control." Thoth said.
"It seems that will not change after 6000 years." Apollo said.
"There will also be the incident with the 50-foot tall werechicken that..." Athena started to say.
"I don't want to know!" Ares grumbled loudly.
"So what does this have to do with us?" Set asked.
"Yes, you said that these problems will be dealt with by these Ghostbusters. So... it is not an issue for us to deal with." Loki said.
"It is an issue, because the key to dealing with these apocalyptic crisis and supernatural disasters that could ultimately destroy the world... the world that we created... are the Ghostbusters." Athena said.
"Who do not exist as yet." Apollo said.
"Ah. So that's what you are implying. You want us to create these specific mortals." Hathor said.
"Yes."
"Okay, fine. We have time, don't we?" Horus added.
"Yes, it's not like we should create them right this second, since these events that will require them will take place 6000 years from now." Athena said.
"They clearly will not live that long." Artemis said.
"Unless we make them demi-gods." Thor mused.
"That could be more trouble than it's worth." Loki added.
"It is one of those things where we have to create a family line or a family tree for these people?" Aphrodite asked.
"How many Ghostbusters are there?" Thoth asked.
"Apparently four of them." Apollo said.
"And one of them will be the reincarnation of the soul of Shimabuku." Bast said.
"Of course he is." Set huffed.
"As for a family tree... yes, we will need that in place as well." Athena said.
"We will need to give these Ghostbusters intelligence and courage." Odin said.
"Not to mention luck. If they are to deal with all these menaces." Frigga said.
"We have some time. However, I suggest we start working on the plans for these Ghostbusters so that we are prepared for when they need to be ready." Zeus said.
"Agreed. I'll start drawing up the blueprints." Hephaestus said.
"Good idea."
The meeting continued on for a few more hours, but eventually their business was concluded.
While the rest of the Gods and Goddesses talked amongst themselves, some of the Gods even leaving to attend to their own problems... two of them remained.
"The 1980's of Earth sound like a very interesting period of time in human history." Zeus said
"Perhaps we should watch it when it happens." Odin said.
"I'll bring the popcorn." Zeus said.
"It hasn't been invented yet." Odin stated.
"Oh. Then we'd better get started on that as well." Zeus smiled.
