Chapter 1: The Five Monarchs:

Miko's POV:

I was having a nervous breakdown and Jack, Raf, Roadblock, Erika, Nigel, Steel, Arashi, and Sunset were noticing. "Are you alright," asks Steel.

"No," I said, "it's Japanese New Years and I'm gonna be visiting with my parents and I'm really nervous!"

"Miko, relax," says Jack.

"Easy for you to say," I said, "I haven't seen my parents for a long time!"

"What's Japanese New Years," asks Steel, "is it like American New Years or Chinese New Years and while I'm asking, why are there three different new year's?"

"It's an annual festival that takes place in Japan," says Raf, "since 1873, the official Japanese New Year has been celebrated according to the Gregorian calendar, on January 1 of each year, New Year's Day."

"Sounds like a lateral move to me," says Steel.

"Okay," I said, "I'm calm and nothing's going to ruin this!"

Ray's POV:

My name is Raiden Okamoto. I'm half Japanese. My creature partner is Tatsurion the Unchained. His nickname is Bob. Anyway, I was called over to the Creature Realm. "Is there a problem," I asked.

"The Five Monarchs are upset," says Mighty Shouter.

They were all here, King Infernus the Immolator, King Tritonus, King Almighty Colossus, Queen Kalima of the Infinite Dark, and Eternal Haven, Angelic Liege!

"Is there a problem," I asked.

"Someone stole the Artifacts," says Shouter.

"You mean the artifacts that can control the creatures," I asked.

"Exactly," says Shouter.

The Heart of Light from the Light Civilization, the Helm of Ultimate Technology from the Water Civilization, the Cloak of Dark Illusion from the Darkness Civilization, the Sword of Fiery Cataclysm from the Fire Civilization, and the Shield of Unity from the Nature Civilization. "Any idea on who," I asked.

"There is a theory," says Shouter.

. . .

Shouter shows me a picture. "His name's Zakira Fua," says Shouter, "he was a duelist."

"Why have I never heard of this guy," I asked.

"Because Zakira's probably worse than the Choten," says Shouter.

"I find that hard to believe," I said.

"Shouter remembers what Zakira did! Zakira even brainwashed his sister!"

"Okay," I said.

"Shouter thought the Duel Masters erased his memory, but if Shouter's right... he might remember!"

"Then I have to find him," I said, "who knows what he'll do with those artifacts!"
