Ominous Flame

Chapter 64

Author Notes: Holidays are over...my one shot holiday hell is over. So time to continue my typical torture and get these uploads in. Especially since I left a bit of a cliffy. Let's go my friends-I do not own Digimon.

It was his fault. "Stop it!" Koichi was suffering because he told him to do it. "Let him go." For underestimating the wicked entity that has caused him nothing but grief, his boyfriend was dying. "LET HIM GO YOU BASTARD!"

With a mighty war cry, Takuya, still in his beast form raced to get his lover out of Cherubimon's death grip. Koji was already off him when they were sealed in the ball of code, so he was unable to talk sense into his fellow warrior.

"Takuya don't!" Nor was anyone else as they shouted out similar pleas. Takuya wasn't listening however. Out of all of them, him and Zoe were the only ones still beasts and the poor girl's wings took some damage when they were trapped.

Regardless of that however, Koichi's predicament, the terrifiying danger they were now in...all of it was his responcibility. "Pyro barrage!" His flame bullets were carefully aimed, going for the evil celestial's legs and head.

Despite seeing a few small winces on his face, he didn't budge against his onslaught. "T-Takuya stay back!" Koichi's request only made him more desperate to reach him. "WHAT'S THE MATTER SHAGUMON? ARE YOU UPSET I HURT YOUR LITTLE FRIENDS?"

He could tell that the warrior of darkness was trying not to scream in pain again. Whether it was an act of defiance against Cherubimon or so the others wouldn't worry about him, no one could tell. Takuya saw him bit his lip, drawing bood.

"ARE THESE PATHETIC HUMANS REALLY SO PRECIOUS TO YOU?" Faster. Faster, faster, faster! Why was it that he was taking so long to reach him when there was so little space? Wait. "GOTCHA~" LIGHTNING BLAST." A series of gasps escaped everyone's mouths as Takuya widened his eyes.

An intense pain spread from his middle. His eyes dropped down to his stomach, his body hunching over. "Grk!" Cherubimon just stabbed with a spear of lightning. Now it was his turn to try not to yell out his anguish.

Instead he glared defiantly into twisted, happy yellow eyes. "THIS IS THE END SHAGUMON." Koichi was thrown back at the others, barely caught by his brother as the sphere that held Takuya in place was slammed onto the fractal code covered ground.

"TERMINAL JUDGEMENT!" The lightning returned. Much more stronger, denser and intense than the last attack. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Everyone found themselves overwhelmed as electricity zapped every fiber of their being.

Even JP who specialized in lightning, was in absolute agony from the assault. Those that were still possessed by the spirits turned human again. The spere that held Burning Greymon disintigrated, causing him to fall painfully onto the ground.

With a groan, he cracked open his eyes. "NOW TO FINSH WHAT YOU SHOULD'VE DONE AGES AGO." Finding all of his companions, his friends on the ground, their fractal code circling them. "N-no..." Cherubimon laughed as he spread his hand towards them. Dark magic began to surround it. Takuya collapsed, closing his eyes.

"We're losing him!" Four spirits circled the downed boy, each of them wore worried expressions. "Any moment now Cherubimon will unleash his full power. Killing the children before destroying the whole world." Shagumon was clenching his fist.

He glared at his pure counterpart. "How the hell are you so calm about this? Out of all of us, you have the power to heal him so why don't you!?" Blue eyes meet red. "I have to say I'm surprised that you care so much about him. Last I recall you only cared about killing Cherubimon?"

The corrupted human warrior didn't have to say anything to him. "Well...I-shut up!" Saldomon sighed, scratching his head. "Don't pretend you haven't grown attached to the child. You've been with him the longest." Saldomon had no right to oust him like that

A blush formed on his cheeks regardless. "You're not attacking Cherubimon for your sake. You want him to pay for torturing the kid who created you." Even Burning Greymon was onto him and he literally digivolved with the just now.

"Whatever! Point is the kid needs help and Cherubimon has to be stopped! So why aren't we doing something about it?" At that everyone looked towards Agunimon for the answer. This whole time he wore such a somber, sad expression.

It pissed Shagmon off to know end. "It's already too late for him. His soul has taken too much damage." Bullshit! The corrupted warrior refused to believe it. "We been protecting him this whole time! Every battle, his suicide stunt-even when Cherubimon tried to destroy him we were able to revive him."

Why now? After everything Takuya's been through why must they fail him when he needed them the most? There had to be something we can do. "The only thing we can do is give him the power to take out Cherubimon. We do that...we lose him for good."

Saldomon looked away as he confessed this. "No..." He refused to believe it. Not after all this does Takuya die! He won't allow it! "Please...there has to be something. That Tommy kid-Koichi-they'll be devastated. What about his family?" They all knew and understood his anguish and desperation.

They saw his memories, treating them as if they were theirs. The anger that infested them when they saw how the origins of Shagumon still burned brightly within each of them. Even the teen's pure beast spirit.

It was why despite being unable to bond with him, he was able and willing to release all his strength against the wicked entity. However despite it all, it wasn't enough. He wasn't enough. Not to mention because of their lack of bond, Takuya was more susceptable to Burning Greymon's instincts and emotions.

There was no other time for him to control the new overwhelming personality. So the moment Koichi was held prisoner, Takuya's fear tripled alongside Burning Greymon's desire to protect his loved ones.

Theoretically...Takuya's injuries, his eventual demise, was on his claws. "All we can do is fufill his final wish." Saldomon shook his head at his good version, well aware of the guilt he felt. It was strange how connected all of them were to one another.

Obviously they could connect with their human. He was hosting their spirits, he called on their aid and in turn they possessed his body. However their connection with both their opposing spiritual entities and evolutions...well that was trickier to understand.

Shagumon and Saldomon should've never been created but they were, using the essense of the true legenary beings before them and their ancestrial spirt. Because of that the two beasts, and two human types were more akin to twins. Much like Koji and Koichi, ironically enough.

There were many differences, especially in terms of personality, but there were also similarities to the point that they were on the same wavelength. That didn't mean Shagumon or anyone else in their little group had to admit it. "If you know a way Saldomon, then stop stalling!" Flames exhaled from the beast being.

"It'll come at a cost, one I am willing to pay. With it we can potentially save him and destroy Cherubimon once and for all. Before you say anything Shagumon, let me be clear on what the stakes are. This is our final shot. We'll have to digivolve with him one last time." The aprehensive pyro tsked at that.

Agunimon crossed his arms, mirroring his other half with the exception of a raised eyebrow. "We?" That final part of his claim stirred his interest. "We're listening Saldomon."

To be continued

Author Notes: The spirits are conSPIRITing-ha ha! Laugh at my joke. I thought it was clever. But uh yeah it's about time I get these spirits chit chatting or at the very least being shown to chit chat with more than just Takuya.
