A week later, Lysandre and Professor Sycamore were having a relaxing walk around Lumiose City, talking about things that happened in their lives when Lysandre suddenly smelled smoke. "What is it?" Professor Sycamore asked. "Someone's house is on fire." Lysandre said bluntly. "It's probably nothing." Professor Sycamore replied, shrugging. However, Lysandre excused himself to chase the scent of smoke like a bloodhound. While Professor Sycamore chased after his friend, he did it in vain as Lysandre found the source of the smell: Diantha's house.
Once there, Lysandre searched desperately for Diantha and eventually, he found her cowering in the bathroom. "Are you alright there?" Lysandre asked, holding Diantha's hand. "I think so? I don't know how it started. One minute, my Gourgeist and Tyrantrum were play-fighting and then, my Gourgeist used Flamethrower and the house started burning." Diantha explained, her voice nearly breaking in grief. Lysandre then started bridal-carrying his friend out of the house, not realising that scales were starting to grow on his body. Once he left the burning house, Diantha told him that her Pokémon were still inside it, so Lysandre nodded.
For the next half-hour, he got Diantha's Aurorus, Tyrantrum, Hawlucha, Gardevoir, Gourgeist, and Goodra out of the house, all while every cell in his body screamed for him to stop and he cringed in pain whenever he felt the bones and muscles inside him snapping and reconfiguring themselves. Once he rescued all of Diantha's Pokémon, he was exhausted, his torn and singed clothes hanging onto his now draconic body. He himself was unaffected by the fire, but after he had to save his friend's Pokémon, his breath came out in puffs of smoke. Professor Sycamore had also called the fire department of the Kalos region and when he saw Lysandre, he came up to him. "Where were you?! I was so worried!" Professor Sycamore said, tears brimming. "I had to find out where the source of that smoke smell was. So, I had to save my friend and her Pokémon." Lysandre explained. "Honestly, I thought Diantha would be terrified of my sudden shift."
"Don't worry, everyone. We'll take it from here." a fireman said while carrying a hose. While the firemen doused Diantha's house with water, Diantha stared at Lysandre in awe. "You… you saved my Pokémon," she said gratefully. "How am I ever going to repay you? Lysandre looked at her before nonchalantly waving a wing. "You don't need to do anything, Diantha," he replied. "I think you've done enough." Diantha soon touched Lysandre's black scales with a tender hand. "Thank you, Lysandre." she whispered.
