New Moon Rising

Chapter 1

"I can't imagine not seeing you tomorrow," Maddie says as she holds David hand.

"Who says you won't see me tomorrow?"

"David, we don't have the agency anymore, remember?" Maddie said.

"Why does work have to be the only reason we see each other every day?" David said staring into her eyes.

"We don't see each other on a personal level anymore. Lately, work has been the only time we see each other, David."

"But it doesn't have to stay that way. Look Maddie," David said turning fully to face her and holding both of her hands. "I meant what I said to that priest a minute ago. I do love you and do want to marry you. Maybe not right this second, but eventually and sometime soon," David said.

"I meant what I said too," Maddie said.

"We need to get reacquainted on a personal level. Since we lost the baby, it seemed like we have been better than we've ever been. We were working towards having the kind of relationship you talked about last year. Until that mess I created put a halt on that. But that mess is behind us now. I want all of that. All of the stuff you said that day. The dates. The shopping. Going to a coffee shop at noon. Getting cheeseburgers together."

"I love you and want those things too, David."

"So we're going to give this relationship a real chance?" David asked hopefully.

"Yes we are. And I will make you a promise, David. No more pacts. No more being scared. No more running away. No more hiding my feelings. No more hiding our relationship. Seeing you happy with someone else made me realize that I never gave myself a chance to be happy with you. I don't want or be happy, or unhappy with anyone but you."

"I like the sound of that," David said smiling as they both leaned in for a quick kiss.

"What now?" Maddie asked.

"How about we go back to the hotel where you're staying, you pack up, check out and unpack at my place until your house is finished?" David asked with a bit of nervousness in his voice.

"Hmmmmmmm. I like the sound of that," Maddie said acting as if she had to think about it.

"And maybe, after your house is finished, if we haven't killed each other, I can pack up my stuff and unpack at your house…permanently," David said. The nervousness now gone.

"Live together? You and me?" Maddie asked.

"Yeah. If we're talking about getting married one day maybe we can view this time as a practice run. See if we can stand each other outside of work. This is the perfect time, Maddie. We have plenty of time for us and to work on our personal lives together."

"I would eventually like to reopen the agency eventually. Hire Agnes, Viola and everyone back. But you're right. We should use this down time to work on us."

"What do you say we get things started, head for your hotel room and start packing?" David asked.

Maddie smiled a big smile "let's go." They get up and start walking up the aisle of the church, one arm around each other's back. "Can you imagine if the priest had agreed and we actually got married right now?" David asked.

"Oh boy. That would have been interesting. I can't imagine how mad both my mother and Agnes would be about not getting the chance to throw us a big wedding," Maddie said laughing.

"And knowing Richie and Viola they wouldn't be happy about not getting the chance to throw me some shindig of a bachelor party."

"Good thing we're waiting then huh?" Maddie said as the reached the church doors.

"Good thing," David agreed as he held the door open for Maddie to walk our first.
