Poor Bumblebee ended up staying in the med bay for the day. It seemed, from what she heard from Bulkhead and Arcee, that Bumblebee would act strangely even in front of Ratchet. While the medic searched for what might be causing this in Bumblebee, it was safer for him to remain in the med bay while he was being assessed. Azura felt bad for Bee, as she knew he wouldn't have wanted to be in this position. But at least he was in good hands, and Bulkhead ended up helping Ratchet a lot with Bee.
Arcee helped too. But she showed Optimus the oil she had found that would be good to allow Azura to have an oil bath, and she brought him the oil so he could assess whether the oil would be good for the sparkling. Azura was hopeful that she could try it, because she has heard about it, and she was definitely intrigued about trying what an oil bath was like. She knew she would have to wait for Optimus to approve, but she was hopeful.
Azura spent time out in the lobby drawing and painting until she got bored after a few hours. Azura was now in her room on her own currently, and she had set up some of her plush toys around a table. She had been playing for an hour, and she was pretending her toys were superheroes, and they were currently having an important meeting. Azura had her metal Stitch toy as the leader of the toys, and it was a meeting regarding an issue in the story the toys would have to deal with.
If anyone was watching her, they would certainly agree that this was very cute. Azura had a very creative mind, but she also wanted to pass the time while everyone else was busy. And she also wanted to take her mind off Bumblebee for a while. And she liked the Avengers, so she was somewhat re-enacting some things from the movie, even if it wasn't accurate. Though while no one was watching, as there was a monitor in the room, the autobots could hear her.
Optimus and Arcee were in the lobby. "It would seem this oil is of substantial quality, Arcee." Optimus had taken the time to inspect it, and even feel some of it on his hand to make sure it was good for his daughter. "I haven't seen human oil of this grade, and it seems good for us. I think it might be good for a sparkling."
Arcee smiled at Optimus. "I was really hoping that it would be definitely good instead of might be. That's why I was impressed with the quality of the oil, and I know we can get more if Azura can use the oil. But you seem uncertain. I know it's not your expertise, so I guess it would make the decision a bit harder."
"I know enough to know what is safe. The only reason I say it might be safe is because Azura is still a sparkling. It feels good for us adult bots, but you and I know how sensitive sparkling bodies are, especially when they do not have their exterior covers on." Optimus paused as he could hear Azura laughing as she continued to play with her toys, and it made Optimus smile. It was great for her to explore her imagination, it was one of the many things he himself misses from when he was a sparkling. "While I believe this oil is good for us, for a sparkling, I don't think so. Ratchet should make that final decision as well, not me. But that is what I am feeling regarding this. It was a good suggestion, Arcee, but it might not be as you thought it would be."
Arcee wasn't upset as she understood. "Well…when Ratchet has time to spare, I suppose he can confirm. But he has been dealing with poor Bee for most of the day." Optimus nodded in agreement. "I won't be upset if Azura can't have an oil bath today, Optimus. She will have a chance eventually." She paused as she listened to Azura as both she and Optimus could hear her yelling while she played with her toys. "At least she's keeping herself entertained.
Optimus nodded. "Yes. It has been nice to see her embrace being a sparkling. It took time, as growing up in a world with humans, believing she was at an age where she might be considered mature and learning she is actually still an infant, it took time for her to get comfortable. She is definitely mature for her age, given her early years, but she has embraced her true age. It is wonderful to hear. Especially…since she deserves to enjoy it."
Arcee looked at Optimus to see his sad expression. She placed her hand on his arm while giving him a sympathetic expression. "You're thinking about when she was at the orphanage, aren't you?" He nodded and intakes heavily, showing he was still affected by it. "Optimus, none of that can be blamed on you. We all know you sent her away to keep her safe. And she was, for the most part. You should be happy that you made the right choice." He frowned slightly as a part of him still felt like what he had done was the wrong decision. "I know you missed the critical first years of her life, and you didn't even get to name her the name you wanted." That was true. Optimus would have given her a different name. But he liked Azura, and he stuck with that name. "If you had the chance, what name would you have given her?"
Optimus did not know how to respond to that. It has been such a long time since he had thought of names for a sparkling, and while he had once imagined naming his sparkling years ago, he had brushed it aside. And when they found Azura, Optimus knew that it was too late to change her name. It wouldn't be good. "Arcee, as much as I would like to answer that question, I feel like thinking about it and picking a name I had thought of from the past is not a good thing. Azura already has an identity. It is wrong for me to wish she had a different name, because I like her name. It is a beautiful name. It suits her."
Arcee felt bad as she had not considered that it would hurt Azura. "Sorry. I was just curious. We all know you still feel pain from the past. And now we have an amazing little sparkling among us. It is a shame that…while we Cybertronians are around, but the world the dragons came from, is gone." Optimus nodded in agreement as he would have loved to take her there when life was abundant on that planet, but it was not anymore. "Truthfully, I am not sure how you understand that she is also part dragon, given that came from the Matrix."
Optimus smiled as he understood her confusion. "To be honest, I don't understand either. Ratchet seems to, but he is a medic, and understands our CNA far better than you and I." The femme couldn't disagree at all. She didn't understand everyone, only the basic information that all Cybertronians learn when they are younglings. "Azura is special. Though I know I don't want her to feel like her being is a burden. I know her abilities show she could become a great warrior someday. I don't want her to feel as though there is a destiny that awaits her."
"I guess not, but she probably believes that. I mean, I am not even sure what she will transform into when she is old enough. Sometimes I think she'll transform before she even reaches that age. But I am not sure what differences her t-cog has compared to ours." Arcee flinched as she heard a loud thump as she listened to the noises coming through the monitor. Optimus intakes heavily as he knew that she either had done something, or she was jumping, but as there was no crying or worried noises coming from Azura, he guessed she was still just playing. "At least she has a lot of her energy back from the illness."
Optimus nodded. "Yeah. Both she and I should be mostly fine soon." He thought about going to the med bay before realizing the time. "Hmm…seems like the time has already gotten away, Arcee." The femme frowned before realizing the time. "There's only an hour until school finishes. I believe Jack is working this afternoon, right?"
She nodded. "Yeah, I totally forgot I had to take him there today. I was shocked about Raf not being picked up and learning about what Bee has been going through, that I honestly forgot. Thanks for reminding me. Hopefully, Bulkhead can get away too, unless Miko has detention again. Even though that wouldn't exactly surprise me. That girl seems to get in trouble at school, like she does here a lot."
"Miko seems to have a lot of energy, and does not like to sit still. She will learn eventually, Arcee. She is young, and needs time to mature." Optimus also realized the time as it was about the time to feed Azura as well. "I had best interrupt Azura's little meeting to have a feed. I imagine she is feeling a bit hungry. She didn't want a nap today, which is a good sign she is recovering well from the infection, even if there is still a bit more time to go."
"Well, since she has kept herself busy while I assisted Ratchet with Bumblebee, and while you took a bit of time to enjoy a cube, check the scans for anything that might have shown up and checked the oil, so I think you are right. I imagine she still needs medicine." Optimus nodded, which was another reason why he knew he had to get Azura for. "Good thing it is only temporary. Medicine always tastes gross, but we all know she won't have it all the time."
"She knows that. But that never stops a sparkling from complaining about it." Optimus walked towards the hallway to make his way towards Azura's room. He could hear Arcee chuckling, as the femme knew well that sparklings complain about the taste of medicine when they need it all the time. It was not new. "Go and see if Bulkhead can go into town with you to collect the children, Arcee. I am sure Ratchet won't need him all the time."
Optimus did hope that Ratchet has been able to isolate what is causing Bee discomfort and to act differently. He knew it was not usual for any bot to be behaving this way, and he had every confidence that Ratchet would be able to cure what might be ailing Bee. For the moment, he wanted to focus on Azura and ensure that she had her needs taken care of. He would certainly have Ratchet double check the oil to ensure that it would be suitable for a sparkling, and he knew it would not take long.
Optimus walked into the room and smiled as he saw Azura was running with two of her toys in hand, but she stopped immediately upon seeing Optimus and she smiled at him. "Daddy!" She dropped the toys and ran over to him, and Optimus leaned down to pick her up. "Do you have any news yet on Bumblebee? Is he feeling better? I haven't heard anything for a few hours, so I have been in here…but I hope there's good news."
"I am afraid I have not heard anything yet, Azura. But Ratchet is the best medic we have, and I know it will turn out good." Optimus kissed her forehead gently as the sparkling frowned, a bit unhappy to know that he did not have any good news for her. "However, I assume you are hungry." She nodded immediately, and he adjusted her in his arm as he opened a panel for her. "Arcee and Bulkhead should be heading into town very shortly to retrieve the children, though Jack has to work today, and we have yet to know if Miko is in detention again or not."
Azura giggled softly. "I wouldn't be surprised if she is, honestly. That girl seems to like getting into trouble, even if she gets annoyed about it." Azura grabbed a hold of the fuel line from the open panel, excited to fill her tank with energon. "At least Rafael will be here. He's probably not been able to concentrate properly all day, not that I blame him. At least he will feel better when he is here for Bee."
Optimus nodded in agreement as he began to gather the toys that had been left around the room to place them back where they were, even though Azura would have put it all back herself. "Bumblebee and Raf have a connection that I don't understand. Ratchet has not worked out why Rafael can understand Bumblebee, but it could just be that Raf is special to understand the language he speaks. And it is nice that Bee has that friendship with Rafael."
"And I guess Bee will probably appreciate his best friend being near this afternoon. Fully understandable. But…" She looked at the fuel line for a moment as she watched the line fill with low-grade energon. "I guess I need to have medicine now, don't I? Or after I have filled my tank."
"You will get the medicine after you have filled your tank, Azura. You don't need to worry about that right now." She immediately made a disgusted expression before placing her mouth over the end of the line to drink the energon. Optimus smiled, amused by her reaction, even though it was necessary. He continued to gather the toys until they were all back in their correct place. "Oh, and I know you were hoping for me to say yes to an oil bath. But I will need Ratchet to have another look at the oil so that he can give an answer as well."
Azura guessed that would be the case, though it seemed that the oil must have been good that Optimus needed a second opinion about it. She would certainly enjoy one, but if not, she would not be too distraught about it. Azura was more concerned about Bumblebee at the moment anyway, as she wanted him to be cured. She thought about spending time with him when he was better, so that he wouldn't feel too terrible for has happened to him. No one could have anticipated the affects of the cortical psychic patch.
Optimus walked around her room to finish tidying it up, even though he had put all the toys back to where they were. Optimus made no comment about the state of the room, and once he had finished, he walked out of the room to make his way to the medical lab. He wanted to check up on Bumblebee as he was concerned about the young scout. He was certain that Ratchet would have discovered what was causing Bumblebee to see Megatron's mind and act out by now, so he was expecting an answer when he got to the med bay.
Both Arcee and Bulkhead were not present in the lobby when he walked through it on his way to the tunnel connecting to the med bay. He was glad as that meant that they were on their way into town to retrieve the children. Even if only Raf could come to the base today, that would be fine. It was their duty to watch over them, after all, even when they were not at the base. Though Optimus was glad that they knew that children, as if not for Jack, Azura may still not be here. She could be with the decepticons right now. But he was glad how things turned out.
Optimus walked into the med bay to find Bee was being prepped to be placed into the tube to be assessed further. Ratchet looked at Optimus as he walked in and smiled at him. "Afternoon Optimus, Azura, I hope that you both had a restful day. I am sad to say that I do not have much to report at the moment, Optimus. I haven't been able to isolate what is causing these visions and actions in Bumblebee. At the moment, I am assessing his processor and have yet to find anything. I've searched all day, and nothing seems to have come up." Azura looked at Bumblebee as she fed from Optimus and Bee was side eyeing her quietly, though maybe not directly. "So I am at a loss of what is causing this, so I think it is as a neuro level that I can't detect with the equipment we have."
"What do you plan to do?" Optimus asked curiously, feeling worried that Bee would always have this. "If Bumblebee has been compromised, we will need to be taking extra precaution in case he causes harm to us, and Azura. I would rather not have to do that, but I want everyone to be safe, including Bumblebee."
"For the moment, I plan on getting him to have a reboot, as I believe that might rid his system of what he is currently experiencing." Ratchet walked over to his desk and filled a syringe with the medicine for Azura, making the sparkling grumble loudly. "I'll get this ready, so you can give this to Azura when she is finished feeding. That will be one less thing for me to worry about. I'll check her metal burns afterwards as well, to see how they are healing."
Optimus was pleased about it, even though Azura was grumbling softly to herself at the moment, because she was unhappy about having to take the medicine. He looked at Bumblebee who was silent while he sat on the berth. He was watching them, though it seemed as though he was also not paying attention, which meant he was deep in thought. Optimus felt really bad for Bumblebee because he didn't deserve this at all. But there was little they could do but try to help him.
Azura took her time drinking the energon too, mostly because she didn't want to have the medicine. She always enjoyed bed fed, because she got to listen to the pulse of Optimus's spark, and it was always calming. Though as Azura knew that Bee was watching her, she could not help but shudder. She still did not know why, as Bumblebee was Bumblebee. And yet, a part of her also told her that he wasn't all Bumblebee, and she did not yet know why. Especially when there was a familiar aura that shouldn't be coming from him.
She took her time long enough for Bulkhead to return with Rafael as Miko had indeed been put in detention again, and Arcee had dropped Jack off at work. Miko couldn't be picked up, as she told Bulkhead her host parents were picking her up and they were doing something that night. Rafael was extremely worried about Bumblebee and he ran straight to the med bay once he arrived. At this point, Bumblebee was standing in the tube, supported by a device that would hold him up and monitor his condition. And Rafael was very worried about his friend, as he did not understand why he was experiencing these things.
Azura had finished feeding by this point, and she listened to Ratchet as he explained to what was happening with Bumblebee, while the scout was put into a deep recharge that Ratchet induced to hopefully wipe Bumblebee's system of Megatron's face, and she hoped that it would work, because she didn't want to be afraid of him all the time. Especially since she saw him like a brother, and she wanted him to get better.
"Bumblebee's complaining of intermittent visions, waking nightmares if you will." Raf looked up at Bumblebee worryingly while listening to Ratchet. "I am surprised he did not make a mention of this sooner, as we could have potentially done something about it already, so that way we all could be at ease."
"But you said Bee was fine when you checked him over." Raf turned to Ratchet. "And didn't you check his system, not just his physical for anything that might be off?"
"I did, but even when I had checked his system, it was mostly physical, Rafael." Ratchet looked at Bumblebee as the bot was now in a deep recharge. "But the experience he endured seems to be having a temporary effect on his psyche. I had searched for potential clues today, but I found nothing in his processor that seemed to be out of the ordinary. I can only believe it is temporary because of it." Raf nodded as he hoped for that, though he was still worried. "This induced power down should force Bumblebee's mind to rest and recover, and hopefully reset enough to clear his mind of the effects."
"And what will happen if it doesn't work?" Azura asked him in a small, curious voice, making Ratchet look at her. "I trust you, and I know you will do your best…but…" She looked at Bee worryingly and tears filled her optics. "I only ask, because when humans go mad, they get put into a ward…they get locked away for the safety of themselves and society. And I don't want that to happen to Bee, if this does not work."
Ratchet softened his expression as he understood what she was saying. "Azura, I do not know what we will do if it does not work. It could mean Bee needs time to recover, and he has to remain on the base for a while until that happens, but it could also mean there is something else going on and I am missing it. But you shouldn't worry about that, Azura. I have full confidence that this will work." Azura was not convinced and she looked at Bee with a worried expression. "It will be okay. Right now you need to take your…" Ratchet paused as he heard an alert coming through the speakers. "Why do we have another issue?"
Ratchet grumbled as he approached one of the consoles to respond, and Fowler's face appeared on screen, making Azura groan as well. "Prime!" She grimaced as Fowler's voice was extremely loud whenever he barked Optimus's name. "You spotted decepticons wearing hula skirts lately?"
Optimus seemed to not understand what Fowler had said, but Azura could not help but burst into laughter, which confused Optimus further. "No, Special Agent Fowler, why?" Azura almost laughed harder because Optimus's tone was full of confusion, as he did not understand what Fowler had meant. She didn't either, but it was such an unexpected question, that she had to laugh. Optimus was looking at her with confusion, but he did not ask why she was laughing.
Fowler seemed a little amused by Azura's laughter, but he made no comment. "Because I was hoping had a lead on the cons that busted into the Kauai Naval Observatory." Azura stopped laughing as soon as she heard that, as she realized that was the reason why Fowler had asked about it, even though he could have asked a straight question instead of a ridiculous question like that. "Place looked like it was hit by an army of wrecking balls."
Arcee seemed to be confused as this made no sense to her. "Why would cons break into an observatory?"
"Does the Hoyt Negozian ring any bells?"
Azura looked at the screen in surprise. She was about to respond when Rafael walked closer as he was listening to Fowler as well. "The space telescope." She looked at him with a smile briefly, as she knew what it was too.
Fowler nodded when Rafael confirmed what it was for the autobots. "As of last night, missing its primary lens."
"It's difficult to guess Starscream's intent without knowing where the lens has been taken," Optimus responded to Fowler with uncertainty, even though he would want to give Fowler an answer, he simply did not have any for him at this time.
Fowler nodded in agreement as he understood Optimus's reasoning. "Good thing that the lens has a tracking device." That was good. At least now they could locate where it is, and it might even lead the bots to the decepticon warship. That would certainly make things interesting.
It took a moment as Fowler sent the coordinates of the lens's location and Azura watched the screen before noticing that it was in the Arctic. Arcee was less than pleased about it too. "The Arctic? Great…another chance to freeze our spark plugs off."
Azura nodded in agreement as Ratchet scanned the location of the lens to see why Starcream took the lens. "I…I would hope that it won't be as bad. We have no scraplet issue, so it should be okay." She looked up at Optimus with a smile. "Because…uh…sometimes I still have nightmares…because those things hurt me too."
Optimus smiled at her and kissed her forehead gently. "I know you still have trauma regarding the scraplet incident, Azura. I am sorry you had to experience that, and I know you will be worried. But you are right. There are no scraplets, and we will not be in trouble." Azura hoped for that, even though she was still worried. "But there is a reason why Starscream is there, and we need to find out."
She knew that, and she looked at the screen when Bulkhead whistled as he had been impressed. And she saw on screen that Ratchet detected a huge deposit of energon beneath the ice. "That's an ND7 class. Biggest unminable energon deposit there is."
Optimus hummed as he seemed to realize what Starscream was up to. "Unminable, until Starscream melts his way down to it."
Arcee frowned, unimpressed that they had to go to the Arctic, but also unimpressed with Starscream's methods. "With the help of the lens."
Fowler was alarmed by this, as this was definitely bad news. "Melting a glacier that size would cause sea levels to rise and demolish coastal cities."
Optimus narrowed his optics as he realized the danger the humans would be in. "We will ensure that it will not happen, Agent Fowler. I will see to it that we either retrieve or destroy the lens to prevent such a destruction from happening." He looked at Ratchet who looked at him curiously. "I have enough strength for this mission, Ratchet. It is imperative that I go with Arcee and Bulkhead." Azura shook her head before he passed her to Ratchet, making her squirm and whimper. "Will you ensure she gets her medicine?"
"Of course, Optimus. I am not about to let her skip just because she's worried for you." Azura looked at Ratchet for a moment and the medic gestured to head to the lobby. "I'll open the ground bridge for you three. And I'll stay to keep an eye on Bumblebee, Rafael and Azura. Things will be a bit quiet, but I'll make sure that Azura remains calm as well."
"Good." Optimus looked at Azura as she held her hands to him desperately. "I will be okay, Azura. This needs to be done, otherwise millions of human lives will be lost if we do nothing." Azura whimpered before folding her arms and turning to lay her cheek on Ratchet's chassis as the autobots walk towards the lobby. Optimus smirked a little at her response. "Make sure you behave for Ratchet, Azura. I know going back to the Arctic is not ideal, and you are thinking of the past, but it will not happen the same way. It will be okay. You can help Raf with his project while we are gone."
Azura doubted Rafael would want to focus on anything related to school, but she knew that was a possibility. She was wishing she had brought one of her plush toys with her at the moment as Ratchet held her as he walked to the lobby to activate the ground bridge. Raf followed them to the lobby to see the three autobots off, and he was happy that Optimus seemed to be well enough to go on this mission. Azura thought he would need more rest, but this was not something he could ignore as well.
When the three autobots left the base, Azura almost wanted to run after them so she could see what was happening, but it would be unsafe for her. Especially as she ended up sneezing as Ratchet closed the bridge, and while smoke escaped her mouth and nostrils, some hot sparks also flew from her mouth before bursting into smoke in the air. That surprised Ratchet, but she didn't hurt him or activate the fire alarm system. With that, he returned to the med bay to give Azura the medicine, even though the sparkling squirmed a little to try and avoid it, but he made sure she took it. After that, Azura wanted to go back to her room for a short time so she could retrieve one of her toys. Ratchet had thought she might get into her berth, but she wasn't tired yet, so when he brought her to her room and left her to keep an eye on Bee and Rafael, she spent a little time alone in her room, thinking about Bumblebee. She knew, in her spark, things would be okay. At least, that is what she was hoping for.
