Kara's POV

Sunlight filled Lena's bedroom. Rolling over, I groaned. I don't want to get up. There's been no progress on freeing Lena and clearing her name. Snuggling into her pillow, I inhaled the lingering scent of her shampoo and conditioner. She needs me to get up and do my jobs.

Entering CatCo, I did my best to be professional and keep a positive attitude. Since we were a news outlet, updates about Lena played on multiple TVs. Most channels spouted misinformation and people's opinions, not facts. Since everyone knew Lena and I were dating, most employees left me alone. Sadly, I was still able to hear their whispering.

Entering Miss Grant's office, I sat on the couch. Rubbing my temples, I sighed. Closing the door behind her, the older woman spoke. "Since you're going through a lot, I'll skip the snide comment about my office not being the employee break room."

"Thank you." Rubbing my face, I thought out loud. "The video is still corrupt and no fingerprints came back from L-Corp or Lena's apartment. I don't know what else I can do."

Miss Grant studied me. "You're certain, without a shadow of doubt, that she's being set up?"

"Yes." I met her gaze. "Lena is innocent. She was with me the night the video of her in the lab was recorded. Since there's no way to prove that she was with me all night, my word isn't strong enough to get her released." Running a hand through my hair, I groaned. "I'm just a new reporter. I don't hold any real power." Not like this anyway. "If I were in your position, my word would hold more power."

"I don't know Lena like you do but I don't think she was trying to control Supergirl like people are saying."

"Lena would never try to do that. She wants to help Supergirl. Even if Supergirl came out and said something, it wouldn't matter."

"Kiera," Miss Grant's voice was tender but stern. "I know that look. Don't out yourself to protect her." My brow creased but she continued before I could argue. "I know who you really are," she smirked. "I've known for a while. Lena wouldn't want you to put yourself in danger for her. Especially if she's innocent."

"What am I supposed to do then?" I pleaded.

"Be there for her and continue what you're doing. I'll do what I can from here."

"Thank you, Miss Grant."

There was still no real progress on the footage. Winn found the abnormality that I saw and was working to decode it. Until that was done, I had no new information for Amanda.

As I waited to see Lena, I overheard other inmates talking about how they were surprised she could take a punch. That it was cold that her brother was in on the attack. My stomach dropped when Lena sat. Her right eye was rimmed with a purple and black bruise, a surface cut crossed her left cheek, and a deep gash split her bottom lip. "Lena," I gasped. My eyes instantly started to burn with tears.

Shifting, the brunette winced. "It looks worse than it is." Lena's voice was unreadable.

"I'm so sorry." I wish there was something I could do. Anything. I feel so useless.

"I held my own. Rumor is Lex set it up." Closing her eyes, Lena clenched her jaw. "It's good to see you." She smiled, wincing again.

"It's good to see you too. Amanda is keeping everything in order with Pam at L-Corp. I'm doing what I can but there's not much to report."

"Pam is a fantastic COO. She is more than capable of running the company in my absence. Has Amanda spoken to you today?"

"No. She called right before I walked in here. I was going to call her back once I left. Why?"

"It's important that you do." Placing her hand on the glass, Lena tried to smile. "You are definitely not like other women. All of my rules go out the window with you."

Placing my hand over hers, I wanted nothing more than to break through the panel that separated us. Something in me doesn't like her tone. "I'm different. That's what you've always liked about me."

Dull green eyes met mine. "You, Kara Danvers, are my hero. I'm sorry for dragging you into this."

"Time's up, Luthor." A guard came into view.

"See you in a few days. Call her back as soon as possible." Hanging the phone, Lena was led away.

Once I was outside the jail, I flew to the D.E.O. and went to the holding cells. Closing the door, I waited for the lights to turn on. Knowing they were relatively sound proof, I screamed. Everything I had been holding in since Lena was arrested, I let out. I screamed until a metallic taste filled my throat and fell to my knees. I'm useless. There's nothing I can do. Lena is counting on me. She believes in me. I'm going to let her down. I can't protect her. Nothing I do is working.

I hadn't realized I was beating the floor until a large crack rippled through the concrete floor and shattered the glass that surrounded me. Something in me snapped. I feel nothing. Standing, I examined the spider webbed cracks under my feet. I need to call Amanda back.

As I walked through the main area, Alex, J'onn, and Winn tried speaking to me. I heard them but everything was muffled. Exiting the building, I flew back to Lena's for some privacy. Amanda agreed to meet me there to discuss a few things.

Greeting the redhead, I stood to the side. "Please, come in."

"Thank you for calling me back so quickly."

"I would have called back sooner but I was at the jail when you called."

"So, you have seen Miss Luthor recently." Placing her briefcase on the dining table, she took a seat. "I saw her yesterday when she wanted a few things documented. I was told about the attack this morning."

"Can I get you anything to drink?" I asked from the kitchen.

"No, thank you."

Taking a seat, I sipped my cream soda. "What kind of things did she want documented?"

Taking out a stack of paperwork, Amanda studied me. "Miss Luthor made you the executor of her estate and power of attorney. If anything is to happen, she wants you to have everything. The apartment, the company, and all of her assets. Everything. As it stands, if Miss Luthor is to become incapacitated, or unable to make decisions, that task will fall to you."

"Ev-Everyrhing?" Amanda nodded. "Why me?"

"Miss Luthor knows you'll do right by her, and her company, if anything was to happen." Pulling out an envelope, the older woman slid it across the table. "I was instructed to give this to you."

Picking up the envelope, I saw my name written in Lena's handwriting. Opening it, I pulled out the letter. Unfolding the paper, a key clattered against the wood table. What's this for?

Kara,

If you're reading this something has happened and I told Amanda to tell you everything. Setting this up doesn't mean I don't believe in you. I believe in you more than science itself. I know you're in shock at what I just dropped in your lap. I'm sorry I had to do this to you. I know we've not known each other long but I trust you with everything. My life and my company. I know you'll do what's right. You always do and that's why I chose you.

The key is to a safety deposit box at National City Bank. You'll find everything you will need in there. With Winn's help and my lab, nothing can hurt you. Jess will have your keycard to allow you into the lab and my safe. Your fingerprint is already uploaded into the system. I think my mother is related to Cadmus somehow. I can't prove it. It's just a feeling I can't shake.

I said at the beginning of this letter that something has happened to me. I hope I'm still alive. I want to see your beautiful face again. Get lost in your impossibly blue eyes. And most of all, hold you as we fall asleep in our bed. I love you, Kara Danvers. I wish I had said it before this letter. I'm sorry that I didn't.

Love, Lena

Tears stained the paper. Quickly, I wiped the wetness from my face. Leaning back, I silently cursed this whole situation. I need to find out what's in that box. Squaring my shoulders, I met Amanda's gaze with a new fire ignited inside me. "Was there anything else?"

"No. Miss Luthor instructed me to keep you updated on everything and to assist you anyway I can."

"I appreciate you and your help. Is there anything we can do about a transfer? She's clearly not safe."

"No, sadly. They will move Miss Luthor to protective custody once she can leave the infirmary. The broken ribs will keep her in there for a bit. Is there anything I can do for you?"

I didn't know she had broken ribs. Those bastards. "Not that I'm aware of. If something comes up, I'll be in touch."

After saying our goodbyes, I sat in silence for a while. What is this new feeling inside me? It's rooted in anger but not angry. It's powerful. Whatever it is, I think it will help me clear Lena's name. Gathering my things and the key, I made my way to the bank.

Walking inside, I was flagged down by a tall man in an expensive suit. His mostly black hair was combed back. A few strands of gray gave away his true age. "Miss Danvers, I'm Michiel, the manager of this branch. I've been expecting you." How much has Lena set up? Everything seems to be falling into place. "Please, follow me."

I followed the man through the bank and into the vault. Using his key, he unlocked a room with nothing but a table inside. Every wall was lined with small bronze colored boxes. "Miss Luthor's box is over there." He pointed to a nearby row. "I'll be outside when you're done. If you wish to take the items inside, I'll need you to fill out some paperwork."

"I plan to take some of what's in the box."

He nodded. "I'll be outside."

Once I had privacy, I pulled out Lena's box and placed it on the table. Taking a steadying breath, I opened it. Inside were sketches and notes on a new suit. It had a built in armor that could resist all forms of red and green Kryptonite. Also inside was a prototype of the shield but in ring form. The silver band had the House of El crest carved into it but there was an L where the S was supposed to be. The ring fit perfectly on my middle finger.

Lena kept personal items in the box too. I smiled seeing copies of photos we had taken together. There was a locket in one of the small boxes. Inside was a picture of us and a picture of her and Lex. They were kids. This must have been taken when she was five or six. Long before he went mad. These things mean so much to Lena that she wanted them safe from anyone. I'll do them, and her, justice.

Closing the box, I slid it back onto the wall and rejoined the manager. After filling out the necessary paperwork, I made my way back to the D.E.O. to update everyone.

"Winn, Alex, J'onn, I need to speak with you privately." There was a new confidence in my voice, and in my chest, that hadn't been there before. Noticing it, they followed me into my special room. All were shocked at the difference in me. "Lena needs our help. She was attacked last night and beaten badly. If any of you have doubts," I held up the sketches and notes, "Lena created a suit to protect me from kryptonite. She never wanted to use it against me." Handing the papers to Winn, I continued. "She said we could use her lab to create the suit. In the meantime, she developed this." I held up my hand to reveal the ring. "It's supposed to do the same thing in case the suit can't be finished in time."

"In time for what?" J'onn folded his arms.

"Lena believes her mother is behind Cadmus. Lex was behind the attack last night. I heard other inmates talking about it. Has there been any breakthroughs with the footage?"

"Almost," Winn mumbled. Flipping to the next page, his eyes grew. "These notes are incredible!"

Alex studied me. "What are you holding back?"

"I need your help to test the ring. Make sure it works as well as Lena thinks it does. Clearly, Cadmus has green and red kryptonite. Both do not mix well with me." Everyone grimmanced at the memory of Red K Kara. "I really don't want a repeat of that. Especially since Lena was beaten."

"You would tear through that jail and slaughter anyone who helped hurt her," J'onn smirked.

"You're right. I would," I agreed.

Something in my sister changed. She saw the differences in me. "Alright." Alex rubbed her hands together. "Let's get to work."

J'onn looked into the Lillian/Cadmus connection while Winn went back to the video footage and suit notes. Alex and I went into the training room. "How does the ring work?" She asked, holding the control tablet.

"I'm not sure. I trust Lena did her best to make it as reliable as possible."

"You left something out." Alex eyed me. "You trust her now more than ever. What changed between this morning when you trashed the holding cell and now?"

"I met with Lena's lawyer today. She made me the executor of her estate and power of attorney. If anything happens to her, I get everything. Lena knows I'll do what she wants with L-Corp and all of her assets."

"Damn," Alex muttered. "You haven't known each other that long and she gave you everything? Isn't that a bit weird?"

"Not for them," J'onn chimed in. "There's a connection between Kara and Lena that I can't explain beyond soulmates." He paused, entering the room. "I saw it when Lena was here and Kara was hurt. Even then, when they hardly knew each other, their entire being wanted to protect the other above all else. It's not often seen."

Alex looked between J'onn and me. "Alright. Let's do this."

"Full power," J'onn smirked. He believes in her too.

"But-," Alex protested, only to recoil at J'onn's expression. "Okay…"

As the lights began to power on, the crest on my ring shined gold. Before pain began, a clear, skin-like substance made its way up my arm and over my entire body. "Wow…" I looked around. "The lights aren't affecting me. At all."

"That's incredible," Alex breathed. Turning towards J'onn, she asked. "Do we still have the dagger?"

"We do." Pulling out a lead sheathed knife from the small of his back, J'onn tossed it to Alex.

"Are you sure about this?" I nodded. Unsheathing it, the blade glowed green. "Anything?"

"No," I laughed. Walking towards Alex, I held out my hand. "Let me see it." Unwillingly, Alex did as I asked. "I can actually hold it!" Placing the blade between my palms, I beamed. "She did it! I'm under max kryptonite lights and I'm holding it."

Taking the dagger, Alex put it back in the sheath. "She's a genius." Once the lights powered off, the symbol glowed again and the skin-like substance disappeared. Tapping her earpiece, Alex paled. "We have a problem. The jail was broken into and Lena was taken."
