When things get too hard to cope with in the life of an immortal, Merlin sometimes drowns himself in the Lake of Avalon, just for a chance to hear his voice or feel his arms around him once more. Merlin has always stayed by Arthur's side, going where the king would have him, for destiny had dealt the two as one. But in death, Merlin could not follow. What choice then remains, but for Arthur to return? Destiny can be for only so long denied. Occurs post-5x13.

The King of Camelot has fallen. When he is given his funeral amoung the lake of Avalon Arthur Pendragon is given another chance to say goodbye to his old friend, along with another who cares of Merlin just as much as Arthur does. (lame summary, but its better i promise.) I DO NOT OWN MERLIN! Enjoy.

Summer has neared it's end and the rain clouds have opened above Camelot. Merlin has an accident involving some spilt water and injures himself in his clumsy ways. Merlin Whump, No slash, Good Ole Protective Knights and Arthur. Two shot.

Stems directly from Diamond of the Day part 2: Merlin's thoughts while Arthur is dying and after he dies. Canon is slightly tweaked to what should have happened, though it doesn't change anything else so it's not really an AU. And for the rest of it, there's no proof it never happened. It's more or less the true ending to the great love story between Merlin and Arthur.

Words failed him for the longest of moments. And when he finally spoke, it was as if he were just the tiny boy that had been saved by the Prince all those years ago. 'Emrys... I- I can't take this.'

He was leaving his home and his friends and his life and his King behind him and he had no choice and it was killing him. After everything he had experienced in all his years by Arthur's side, this was what was going to kill him.
