Chapter 47: SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS
"Thank you very much, Arai-san." Yuamu took the recipe from Arai-san's Pot of Selflessness. "Your soup is just what Yuhi needs to get over his cold. I'll have Yagi-san get on it."
"Whoops! Before you go…Could an old fogey pester you for a Duel?"
"A Duel?"
"I love a good game, you see!"
Yudias looked to Yuamu for the seal of presidential approval.
"Go ahead, Yudias."
"Tabletop fine? Solid Vision is too much excitement for a geezer like me!"
"Velgear Riva!"
The senior citizens around them oohed.
"Chief of the Alien Investigation Division, Yudias Velgear!"
"President of the neighbourhood Go and Shogi Club, Arai Legal!"
"GO RUSH!"
"My turn. I draw a card. That's five…"
"Five?"
"Ah, forgive me, Yudias-dono. At my age, it's imperative I keep constant track, lest I forget where I am in my games."
"Mm. Please go on."
"I'll start by summoning a monster. Spirit of the Pot of Greed!" (Level 1 LIGHT Angel/Effect ATK 100 DEF 100)
"100 ATK in Attack Position?"
"And I'll follow that up with Spirit of the Pot of Greed and Humility!" (Level 1 LIGHT Angel/Effect ATK 100 DEF 100)
"Another?"
"And last but not least, Spirit of the Pot of Avarice and Selflessness!" (Level 1 LIGHT Angel/Effect ATK 100 DEF 100)
"Three of them?"
"That's two." Arai checked his hand again. "Now, Yudias-dono. I hope you don't hold it against me if I activate my key card."
"Your key card?"
"Magic Card, Pot of Greed!"
"Pot of Greed? It shares naming with your Spirit of the Pot of Greed. What does it do?"
"I'm overjoyed you asked, Yudias-dono! Pot of Greed lets me draw two new cards!"
"What a powerful effect!"
"That's three. When Pot of Greed is activated, Spirit of the Pot of Greed's effect also activates, drawing me one additional card!"
"That's four."
"It only gets crazier from here! Magic Card, Pot of Greed and Humility! With this Magic Card, I add one card from among the top three cards of my Deck to my hand, and shuffle the rest into my Deck, but can't Special Summon this turn!"
"That's still four, but…" Yuamu had a hunch about the monsters on Arai's field.
"You've noticed, Ms. President? You're on the money! When Pot of Greed and Humility is activated while I have Spirit of the Pot of Greed and Humility on my field, I draw one more card! Unfortunately, I will have to set one. I end my turn with four cards in hand."
"It is my turn! Velgear Draw! I summon Transamu Rainac and Shadow Sentinel! I release the two of them to Advance Summon! As the ship of memories swirls across the skies of oblivion, the stars and planets swirling through the heavens call upon the name hidden in their chests! Take flight! Galactica Oblivion!" (Level 7 LIGHT Galaxy/Normal ATK 2500 DEF 2500)
"Yudias-dono's Ace, is it?
"I set a card! Battl –!"
"Not so fast! Trap Card, Defend Delta! If I control three monsters with different names, you cannot attack this turn, and I draw a card!"
"That is five cards you have in your hand!"
"At last, this moment has come! My turn! I draw! In a Rush Duel, when you have less than five cards in hand, you draw cards until you have five during your Draw Phase! But if you have five or more cards in hand, you draw just one! I activate Pot of Arrogance, drawing me two in exchange for not activating other Magic Cards this turn!"
"SEVEN?"
"Are you sitting down, Yudias-dono? I am summoning my Ace Monster!"
"Your ACE?"
"And I must release three monsters for it!"
"An Advance Summon requiring three monsters?" Yudias was sure that was thunder clamouring outside.
"Is that too big a cheat? With three releases, I can summon SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS!" (Level 10 LIGHT Dragon/Effect ATK 0 DEF 0)
"LEVEL 10?"
"SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS' continuous effect! Its ATK and DEF are increased by 1000 for each card in my hand!"
"Jo jon vi du! Six cards x 1000! That is 6000 ATK, is it not?" (ATK 0 ↑ ATK 6000)
"How observant of you, Yudias-dono! I'll battle! SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS attacks Galactica Oblivion!"
"I activate my Trap Card, Vacua Annihilation! When your monster declares an attack while I have a face-up Level 7 or higher Galaxy-Type Normal Monster on my field, I destroy Attack Position monsters on your field up to the number of face-up Galaxy-Type Normal Monsters on my field!"
"Galactica Oblivion is a Galaxy-Type Normal Monster! This'll get him out of this jam! Nice play, Yudias!"
"It would be. Except Trap cards do no work on SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS!"
"WHAT?"
"And it doesn't end there! When SAINT DRAGON – THE POT OF OSIRIS comes up against a Trap, it reduces the ATK or DEF of one of your monsters by 2000! Cut Galactica Oblivion down to size, POT OF OSIRIS!"
"Galactica Oblivion!" (ATK 2500 ↓ ATK 500)
"POT OF OSIRIS! Continue your attack! Destroy Galactica Oblivion!"
"5500!" (Yudias LP 4000 ↓ 0)
Though the win went to Arai, the atmosphere was celebratory all around.
"Not too shabby. Your honest goal counting your cards was to build to your combo, huh Arai-san?" Yuamu raised her finger.
"Oops! Did I cheat again by omitting that part?"
"Arai, that was a surprising Duel! I am indebted to you for showing me yet again that Rush Duels are deeper than I could have imagined!"
"My pleasure, Yudias-dono." The masked retiree shook Yudias' hand.
