Summary:
There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.
Chapter 48: Lying in Wait (for QWERTY Hearts)
"I have Arai-san's soup, Chupataro! A bowl of this, and I was over my cold! LIKE THAT!" Yuhi snapped his fingers into his walkie.
"N-no, that's okay, chupa!"
"Wait. You don't want me to come over?"
"It…It's very bad, chupa!" Chupataro hacked. "Chupa doesn't want to reinfect you, cabra!"
"Yuhi, what is it?" Yuamu caught him spacing out.
"I'm worried 'bout Chupataro, is all." Yuhi couldn't get him out of his mind.
"Are you fighting again?"
"No. I gave him my cold. But if the Dudi Ducasse invade at a time like this, he –!"
The neutral faction in Velgear's war did just that.
"I don't think they got that we don't wanna fight." London sweatdropped.
While they were being boarded, Chupataro was feuding with the Earthdamar's newly evolved sentience in an abandoned factory thrice frequented by the Flatwoods Monster.
"Something woke you up, chupa. Something happened on Earth, didn't it, chupa?"
Hmmm?
"Ever since Chupa became whole again, Chupa's felt the Earthdamar's power growing inside, chupa. Just like Chupa's halves rejoined, the Earthdamar has slowly been rejoining its parts, hasn't it, chupa?"
I'm just goin' with the flow, ahaha!
"Chupa can't…Chupa can't let you get near Yuhi, chupa!"
Ehhh? How come?
"Your infinite power…There's no telling how it would affect Yuhi, chupa! Yuhi might –!"
You're scared if Yuhi gets me back, he'll go away for good?
"Chupa had nothing. No friends to confide in and nobody but Meeeg-chan's image to love, chupa. Chupa was all alone, cabra." Chupataro slumped forward. "What's most painful is…being all alone, chupa."
But you're all alone now!
"Chupa's been alone, chupa. This isn't it. The friendship of so many people…The love of just one person…Chupa has that now, cabra."
Say? How long are you gonna do this? Let's go see him!
"No, chupa."
You're pretendin' to be sick! You've been livin' in this warehouse so he can't find you at home! If you keep avoidin' him…Do you wanna break up for real?
"It doesn't matter, chupa! Not if Chupa keeps him away from you, chupa!"
Boooo! You're no fun!
"Then why is Chupa still in control, chupa?"
Huh-huh?
"You can take the wheel whenever, but you haven't, chupa. Why? What are you waiting for, cabra?"
Yuhi likes you, so I don't wanna force ya!
"Because if Yuhi sees that, he may not take you back, chupa?"
Their ways of thinking were in lockstep, and so were the boots of the Dudi Ducasse warriors who showed up looking for Yudias with divining rods.
"Yudias Velgear! Where are you? Come out!"
The rats were everywhere.
Chupataro's brisk movements stormed across corrugated metal.
"Who's there?"
"Chupa…" The chupacabra's red eyes glowed menacingly in the darkness. "CHUPA!"
A long and short time passed. 77-some-odd years in the Dudi Ducasse's Dudimo Dudimo Space, and mere minutes in the real world. Then, a day more.
Asaka assured Dudi Nishaw she'd get in touch with the fleet commander if his missing away team turned up.
"I gander six poor 'warriors.' Did you commit a sextuple murder?"
"Who the hell are you, chupa?"
"I am Zuwijo-sama's rightest of right-hand men. Muda Velgear."
Ohhhhhh! Mr. Dreamlike Whispering Voice!
How many right-hand men does Zuwijo need, chupa? You know this guy, cabra?
"All these Dudi Ducasse you drained…I think you single-handedly declared an act of war not even those indecisive willows in the wind can ignore."
Hahaha!
"Earthdamar, it's time we depart for where Zuwijo-sama is."
Where Zuwijo is, chupa?
Perfect timing! My detour's over anyway, woo-woo!
W-WHAT?
"Fusion! Fusion! Fusion! Fyu! Fyu!" Yuamu burst through the factory wall in a sphere of light.
"Y-YUAMU? You! You didn't! You possessed Yuamu too, cabra?"
With the piece of me saved in MIK's vault, ya-yay!
"Chupa should've realized MIK wouldn't use up all the Earthdamar in their experiment, chupa!"
"Right?" Yuamu took over the talking.
"Damamu! I've come to bargain!" Yuhi called.
"YUHI?"
"Are you listening, Damamu?" He climbed in through the opening Yuamu made. "Leave Yuamu's body and I'll –! Wha? Chupataro?"
"DUMBASS! DON'T COME ANY CLOSER, CHUPA!"
Yuhi's incompetence at math may have cost him the Duel with his sister earlier, but he could put two and two together: Chupataro had been lying to protect him.
"Chupataro, let the Earthdamar out!"
"Ch-chupa?"
"The Earthdamar's originally a part of me! You're just putting it back where it belongs!"
"Chupa can't, chupa! If Chupa does that, the Yuhi Chupataro knows will…You'll disappear, chupa!"
Throbbing splinters of raw power appeared beneath Chupataro's claws in his hair. His body couldn't contain it much longer.
"Damamu, please! Don't hurt Chupataro! I'll take you back!"
"I'm not doin' anything! He's resisting letting me out, and that's what's hurting him!" Yuamu denied culpability.
"Chupataro, why?"
"Uh, DUH! Because you mean so much to him!"
Yuhi laid his forehead against Chupataro's. "Chupataro, don't do this. You're killing yourself."
"Ch-chupa…"
"If I'm not myself anymore afterward, come save me. Remind me who I am."
Chupataro couldn't stop expelling salt from his eyes.
"Yuhi, retreat!" Yudias arrived but was stymied by Muda. "We have no knowledge what might occur if the Earthdamar adheres to you again!"
"Yudias, I can't just stand by and watch Chupataro suffer like this!"
"Chu…"
"Come back to me."
It was unclear whether Yuhi was addressing Chupataro or the Earthdamar. Either way, the energy being he'd designated Damamu spilled out of Chupataro and enveloped him, the remaining twin.
The Earthdamar was double-booked.
"Ah!"
"I'll get us to Zuwijo lickety-split!" Yuamu pulled Muda and Yuhi aboard her sphere, blasting off through the roof.
Chupataro passed out.
"Yuamu! YUUHIII!" Yudias cried after them.
