A Japanese Weresheep in Mutsuba Town
Author's Note: Time for a new pairing! Enjoy the story and R&R.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to or of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH! series.
Pairing: Developing Yuhi x Chupataro.
Summary:
There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.
Chapter 51: Also sprach Zuwijo
Zuwijo was vicious.
"As I thought, you really know nothing."
Thus spoke Zuwijo, who spoke will to power. Who spoke of Yudias knowing nothing, while drawing power from the vast expanse of nothingness out of which he called forth his Ace Monster.
This was Yudias he was attacking. His former brother-in-arms. His friend. And 8.88 million of his own countrymen!
Only, Zuwijo didn't waver. He had an axe to grind, and would grind his adversaries to dust, be they his ex-allies or not.
For all his stargazing platitudes about the correct Velgeard, Yudias hadn't worked out how Rush Duels could end the war peacefully.
War isn't a game. War is bloody and unremitting. And if winning the war necessitated weaponizing a card game very popular among Earth's elementary school children, Zuwijo would display no regrets.
Discrete from Zuwijo not harbouring any.
The testament to any species' development is the growth in sophistication of its tools. Though you couldn't tell by Zuwijo embodying the lowest common denominator and whaling on his opponent with Rush Duels in the most Neanderthal way possible.
From the perspective of common sense, Zuwijo was definitely cheating. And not like Arai-san "cheated" playing up the crazier aspects of his cards. Bannable rules violations!
But was there an explicit rule forbidding his unsporting conduct?
Yudias let Meeeg-chan coming to life and inflicting real damage slide because there was no clause in the rulebook applicable to these unpredictable corner cases, ergo he couldn't condemn Zuwijo for what he was presently engaged in.
The shield balls had gummed up the hull breaches reported on all decks, but Zuwijo made more. Arming himself as Voidvelgr Requiem through Egil Velgear Gyurudo, the Velgearian strongman implemented a full-scale, one-man assault on the enemy battleship, even after he'd used up his one attack to destroy Cosmo Titan that turn.
Asaka and Nyandestar secured Yuna, and dug their heels in not to fly off their feet.
Mitsuko rescued three soldiers who were on their way out the ruptured hangar walls. Convenient, for upon returning to the launchpad, she'd donned her 3-Metre suit for no discernable reason.
The Jersey Devils, Menjaburo, Tell, and Ranran stooped low to the floor.
Sukai was around, hanging in there.
Bochi nabbed Manya and London midair, exercising his fierce strength.
Purisaki-san was initially safe, locked arm and arm with the other members of the UTS8, but since she was closest to the gash in the ship, the suction began dragging her overboard. Chupataro headed her off, depending on his robot's weight to stop them both from catapulting back any further.
Yudias' "subordinates" (as Zuwijo labelled them) were in no condition to continue piloting Monster Cards for their leader. Yet even under threat of explosive decompression, Chupataro's mind was in two places at once. He just hoped it didn't eventually end up splattered all over space!
Strangely, not having Damamu's buoyant woahs and yays in his brain engendered a certain emptiness. His gut feeling, parental or otherwise, was to renew their connection.
This wasn't conceptual. Before Zuwijo chopped down on Valvelgear with his immense sword Tyrfing, Chupataro saw Damamu collapse on the screen playing the adjacent Duel. It was like the symptoms Yuhi previously tussled with when around the Earthdamar, except in this instance, it was the Earthdamar getting a taste of its own medicine.
Chupataro hadn't forgotten his hand in causing Yuhi that discomfort, and his skin crawled chewing over the agony Damamu must be in now. To make things worse, Yuhi was dealing with Damamu's emergency medical situation by himself (Fine! He was with Yuamu! But still!).
Zuwijo had refined Egil Velgear into Egil Velgear Gyrudo by testing it out on Chupataro. The zap Chupataro's Gavil Charger conveyed couldn't compare to his shame, knowing the knowledge was misused to harm those he cared about.
In the brief span of Damamu's existence as a self-aware being, Chupataro had plumb absolved the precocious star child of wrongdoing. The glittering novas in Damamu's eyes were an interstellar highway which impressed upon Chupataro the triviality of Damamu's mischievous yet youthfully ignorant actions. How they were drops in a pond. Blips in the wide expanse of the universe.
Damamu's eyes were this revelatory, even though Chupataro had only sighted them through the filter of the ship's door-mounted hardware.
One became two, and two became three. A scooter for one, a scooter built for two. But not for three, as that'd be shitty parenting.
Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, the Velgear Cluster, Planet Menmen, Pawtner, Planet Jersey Devil…
Slingshotted in his mind from Earth's solar system to all parts beyond, Chupataro was unceremoniously whisked back to the interrogation room at MIK HQ, where Manabu sang of Chupataro's kind, warm, nice-smelling mother and super macho-macho dad.
No one knew Chupataro's candid backstory. He hadn't told a soul. Not even Yuhi.
Did he have what it took to be a papa someday?
He shouldn't have derived humour from the life-or-death circumstances they were individually embroiled in, but Yuhi was the mom here, wasn't he? Chchchchchch!
That was probably Damamu's influence. Damamu liked to laugh, so Chupataro laughed (internally, anyway).
The monitor wasn't functional. He couldn't see if Damamu and Yuhi were okay.
He just wished Damamu would get better.
Damamu was just born, chupa! Chupataro yelled out inside, and he was fairly positive Yuhi echoed the sentiment.
Yuhi would manage. Like a mom (or older sibling, or whatever), Yuhi would step up and ensure Damamu didn't fade away.
"He's rounding up for another attack!" Yuna girded herself.
Voidvelgr Requiem's Chaos Overforce scraped against Valvelgear's unshielded hull, monolithic and one sword slash from making Yudias and his subordinates push up daisies.
