A Japanese Weresheep in Mutsuba Town

Pairing: Developing Yuhi x Chupataro.
Summary:
There are some forms of alien activity even MIK turns a blind eye to. The truly alien activity between Chupataro and Ohdo Yuhi, for instance.
Chapter 55: Carded
"The chick who could do nothing but chirp has flown away from me."
"You mean Yuna?"
"Stray lamb, we are two tuning pegs on a guitar. Our chicks s-s-spurning the savage storm."
"Chupataro would eat a chick. And we aren't alike, Rovian. Chupataro was taken from me. Yuna made up her mind to leave the nest on her own."
"As she spread her wings, I wonder what she saw and felt. Appassionato?"
"Sometimes, if you love someone, let them fly?"
Something to that effect?
"Cheep, cheep, obbligato."
Damn. He actually grasped what Rovian was on about. Were they more alike than he realized?
…
"What was that UFO that transformed Guy-kun and Yuna into cards?"
"There can be no mistake: It was the Relic I encountered at the Go Rush Yu!"
"The fountain of souls Velgearians visit before heading into battle?"
"Indeed. From what Zuwijo told us, the Relic has deep ties to the Creator. Why then does MIK have it? How is the Creator involved?"
Asaka levelled a severe gaze. "I don't know, but we have to dig up answers before MIK turns this weapon on anyone else!"
"I still cannot believe Manabu and Nyandestar would do such a thing!"
"Believe it, Yudias." Yuhi slogged through the door of UTS' new building. "They're MIK. And it's not just her MIK's carded…"
"Eh? What did you say, Yuhi?"
"It's here in this surveillance footage. All of it. What happened to them. What Maximums are."
Yuamu had a bad feeling. That Yuhi wasn't leaning complete delinquent as he had in the past two years suggested he'd discovered something big.
"Where did you get this?"
"The bottom of the ocean!" Damamu swooped in. "Yuhi and I went down there!"
"I didn't ask you to come…" Yuhi feigned nuisance.
"At the bottom of the ocean? Why would this be –?"
"The Ark. It's the prison they were keepin' everyone."
"Everyone?"
"All the aliens livin' above ground in Mutsuba Town."
"You've been investigating, haven't you, Yuhi?"
"Sukai was."
You gotta be strong.
He had to be, to go through this again.
Shields up! Yuhi had seen in person what happened to that guy. Those present had seen in person what happened to Yuna. But nothing could've prepared Yuhi for what lay buried in the depths. What Yuamu and the others were on the verge of viewing for themselves.
The grainy recording flickered on: Chupataro with his arms and legs cuffed in a featureless space.
"State your name and date of birth."
"Kaburagi Chupataro. May 25th."
"This voice…"
"It's Ryugu Tremolo!" Yuamu recalled for Yudias.
"Do you know why you are here?"
"Because you and your brother are alien-hating xenophobes, chupa!"
"Serial assault. Trespassing at Mutsuba Heavy Machinery's eighth garbage collection site. Attacking MCV. All-round unacceptable behaviour for a Gold Earth Permit holder."
Snore.
"And engaging in a romantic relationship with a human without the authorization of MIK? Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk."
"Do you have a point you're building up to, chupa? Chupa can pull out a magazine, chupa."
"We can make life very difficult for him. For Ohdo Yuhi."
Chupataro thrashed in his restraints. "CHUPA'LL CHUPA YOU, CHUPA!"
Yuhi flinched, eyes closed.
"MIK would much prefer you aliens cooperate. Simply sign on the dotted line, and you'll be released on your own recognizance. To the Alien Residential Area, and not the surface, obviously."
"Chupah! Chupa isn't signing away Chupa's rights so you have free license to ship Chupa off the planet, cabra!"
"That's one way to up the ante."
"You can threaten Chupataro all you want, chupa! Chupataro refuses, chupa!"
"I was hoping you'd be unruly." Tremolo snapped his gloves.
"Ch-chu?"
"MIK prefers you cooperate. Niisan and I, however…"
The inhumanity in Tremolo's condescending stare was visceral.
"You'll be much more valuable to us…as a Maximum Card!"
The Relic's light swallowed the picture from offscreen.
"CHUPAAAAAAAA!"
"No…" Yuamu clamped her hand over her mouth.
"Chupataro!" Yudias seized the TV in his, forgetting again this was merely playback.
Yuhi's ears stung.
"Turn it off," Asaka ordered.
The video cycled through a diverse mix of aliens meeting the same fate as Chupataro. Interspersed between the litany of screams from virtual unknowns, Asaka spotted her loyal underling, Badlove.
"COO-COOOOOOOO!"
"TURN IT OFF!"
Tazaki ejected the tape.
"It can't be…" Yuamu still hadn't removed her hand from her mouth.
"Maximum Cards are people!" Asaka was overcome with revulsion.
"That means Abyssal Sea Dragon Abyss Kraken, which Ryugu Phaser played in his Duel with that guy, and Roaring Firestorm Volcalize Phoenix, which Manabu played in his Duel with Yuna…"
"Each component monster is an alien MIK arrested, and may include our friends!"
Soylent Alien. The sickest twist on Yuhi's old crack about Chupataro not being a person.
…
Merteen Yuhi surfaced in the control room of the Ark. He'd popped a Mermail gummy prior to diving underwater at Sukai's coordinates. He popped another gummy to shed his gills, tail, and the like and resume human form.
Welp! There was a gummy that also mutated aliens into humans, as humans themselves were aliens to the species humans categorized as aliens! It came with a downside though. Eating two different gummies in succession so soon one after the other would give you vertigo.
The Ark was compromised, and had been abandoned by MIK.
"Yuhi!" Damamu glomped him. "Whatcha doin'?"
"What am I doin'? What're you doin'?"
"If you wanted to go somewhere, we coulda gone together!"
Yuhi exuded leavemealone.
It was here. It had to be. A lead on what MIK had done to Chupataro.
Fast-forward to the end of the tape Asaka stopped short of.
"Assemble around me, Sevens!"
That guy! Why didn't he choose Chupataro? He could've saved him!
