Chapter 4: Leeku

I wasn't sure how long I stayed in the cave before I ventured out again. The only reason that I decided to leave was that I'd run out of meat. No Name had left me a couple of times, but she always came back; often with random pieces of metal to eat.

Instead of leaving the same way that I came in, I chose another path out of the many before me. Thankfully, it didn't look like this cave was inhabited by anything, which was surprising considering its size. I wasn't complaining, though.

It's nighttime. I realized once I stepped out into the open air and looked at the star-littered sky above me They were still a new concept to me, but they were incredible to look at. It definitely beats staring at a cloud-covered sky, if you could even see that through the thick rain.

No Name came barreling out of the cave at my side, tail wagging and a slight smile on her face. Briefly looking down at her, I thought about her role in helping me fight the older Meta-Wolf. She'd definitely earned the right to stay with me, even if I was still a little upset about her tearing out my eye.

Alright, time to find some food. Looking around at my surroundings, I realized that this entrance to the cave must have been further down the mountain because it was surrounded by grass, instead of crystal. Trees surrounded me once again, which I was slightly more grateful for now that I knew this planet was covered with animals as powerful as me. I would need as much cover as I could get

Wandering for what felt like hours, but was probably more like half an hour, I eventually found a large clearing with a lake in the middle. At the surface, the water was clear, but deeper down I was sure that creatures lurked. Unfortunately for them, I was craving fish, and nothing was going to stop me.

The thing about hunting fish was that they were relatively easy to kill, even if they were bigger or stronger than you. They had a massive weakness, easily exploitable. They couldn't breathe without water, so all I had to do was remove them from it. Size didn't matter, except for the fact that bigger fish could survive for slightly longer outside of water than smaller ones.

Before diving into the lake, I dug a decently sized hole on the bank and prepared my Metallic Spike in my right hand. Then, I went on my hunt.

On Planet X-32, the oceans were constantly raging, making it much harder to swim and hunt. In comparison, this was easy. I glided through the water like the food that I was searching for, moving perhaps faster underwater than I ever could above it.

Once I got to a certain depth, creatures swam around me carelessly. They were all decently big, bigger than me for sure, but I was looking for something that I could eat over the course of a long period. I kept swimming down until I found what I was looking for.

Level 7

Species - Giglamarina

HP - 1,633

Ki- Locked

Power Level - 245

The Giglamarina is a peaceful fish when left alone, but can turn extremely violent when angered. It has very sharp teeth that tear the skin of creatures twice its size.

Is currently just strolling.

The fish was easily three times bigger than me, and according to the description, its teeth could, without effort, pierce through one end of me and come out the next. Its eyes were big and black, not a sign of light within. The Giglamarina glided through the water slowly towards me, probably not even knowing that I was there. It would soon.

While I hadn't ever seen this type of fish in my life, they were all similar enough. Annoy it enough, it'll try to eat you. That is what I was hoping for.

Swimming up to it with as much force as I could muster, I steadied the metallic spike, before plunging it deep into the Giglamarina's eyeball.

Critical Hit!

It thrashed around violently, smacking me with its massive tail. I suppressed the scream and allowed it to send me a decent way away, taking the spike with me. When it turned its attention to me, I knew that I got what I wanted. A few seconds later, I was in its mouth. The trick was to roll into a ball, and the moment that it opened its mouth, use my energy to glide past all of the dangerous teeth. A tried and tested method of success.

Once I was in, I unfurled my body and began my attack. I stabbed the metal spike up into the roof of its mouth and dragged it down towards its throat, before taking it out and stabbing it many, many times in various different places. Every hit was critical.

The Giglamarina continued to thrash, its mouth opening a few seconds later. I wasn't finished, however, turning towards its throat and opening my mouth wide. The energy beam that exploded out of me surprised me greatly. It was much bigger than usual, twice as big as my head. The energy flowed down the Giglamarina's throat, and I allowed the momentum to push me out of its mouth and back into open water.

Its health was lower than halfway, which was far more than I had intended on in the first place. Slowly, its health lowered, likely because it was bleeding from inside of its mouth and eyeball.

In its pain, the Giglamarina tried to swim far away, likely back to its home. I caught up to it quickly and grabbed it by its tail. Another interesting fact about fish was that most of them couldn't swim backward. When forced to, they started to suffocate, which was a part of my plan.

Tilting up to the surface, I swam upwards while also using my energy to glide through the water faster. It struggled, but because I'd wounded it and was forcing it to move backward at high speeds, its struggle didn't mean much at all. We broke through the surface quickly after and I threw the giant fish into the hole that I had dug.

"Well that was fun," I said through labored breaths. Now, just wait until it dies.

It didn't take long. Once it did, my body vibrated the same as the other day, and the world stopped.

I wasted no time putting all of my stat points into strength. Everything jumped up a lot, and the biggest change was my body, which bulked up a little bit, showing me muscles that I didn't even know that I had.

Strength Stat Reached 20! You've Been Granted A Special Strength Skill!

Meteor Fist - Once per combat, a single physical attack will do double its normal damage.

Cool. I looked down at my new muscles and flexed them a little bit. Now my power level is 224. More than double what it was when I landed here.

Looking over to my dead prize, I saw No Name sniffing around it curiously. I waited to see if she would also get a sheet in front of her, but it didn't come.

"Hey, that's my food, you can go find your own," I shooed her away, to no avail. After a few minutes of trying, I gave up. She clearly wasn't going to eat it, she was just curious.

We stayed there until the darkness of the sky started to fade away, to be replaced with bright red. Even though the suns weren't fully up yet, the sunlight still tingled my skin. That was good, though. Bardock had said that the longer I stayed in the sun, the quicker my skin would get used to it, so that's what I planned on doing.

It was only an hour later that I decided that I couldn't take it anymore and dived into the lake to cool down. The feeling of hot skin on cool water felt incredible, and from that moment I decided that coming to this lake would be a daily necessity, if only just to relax. I wouldn't need fish for another few days, but this was definitely better than sitting in the cave all day exploring the different paths.

An hour or so later, I took my leave, looting the Gigamarina's body and going back to the cave.

As I expected, I kept returning to the lake every day. By the seventh day, the morning sun didn't bother me at all anymore, but that only made me start leaving the cave later and staying until the sun was hot enough to have some sort of effect. The sun was high up in the sky when I decided that it was time to get another Gigamarina to eat for the coming week.

It went much easier than last time, which was good. I got 3500 experience points from it too, which put me about 2000 from a level up.

Territory Alert

You Are Being Snuck Up On (West)

My muscles were tense as I rose from the water with the flailing fish trailing behind me. When did my territory stretch to the lake? I didn't have time to answer my own question, because when I looked left, a figure stood on the other end of the water. They were hard to make out from that distance, combined with the glare of the sun, so I put the fish down so that I could fly over and get a better look, but by the time I tried to look over at the figure again, they were gone.

"Looking for me, handsome?"

The voice was like silk, directly in my left ear. It would have been a welcome sound if it wasn't so unexpected and frankly terrifying. I jumped away from the source of the sound, only for my eyes to widen in surprise once my eye lay upon its form.

The mysterious figure was a girl, likely around the same age as me. Her hair was short, straight, and black, stopping just short of her shoulders. She had a mischievous grin on her face, clearly having enjoyed scaring me a few seconds ago.

Level 16

Leeku

Species - Saiyan

Age - 15

HP - 11,616

KI - 8,712

Description:

Leeku is an ordinary Saiyan girl, with a promising future. She's already ranked second class, with a projection that could potentially bring her to first.

She is intrigued by you and finds your white hair attractive.

Power Level: 1,056

She likes my hair? I wondered briefly, before looking her over again. She didn't seem aggressive, which was a step in the right direction. Unsure of what to say or do, I stared at her with a suspicious glare.

The other Saiyans around my age that I met weren't friendly in the slightest, so I wasn't half-expecting a fight.

"It's rude to just stare at someone, ya know? Especially at a woman like me," She smiled while she spoke, while casually walking towards me.

"S-" The words caught in my absolutely dry and barely used vocal cords. I coughed loudly, clearing my throat before looking back up at her. "How'd you find my lake?"

"Your lake?" She asked with cocked eyebrows. "Since when did this lake belong to you?"

"Since I'm the only one who swims in it," I retorted. "Well, apart from the fishes but they don't really count."

"Well, that's where you're wrong. I come here to swim once in a while too, and I've never seen you here before."

"Well, just because you haven't seen me here doesn't mean that I haven't been here."

"I suppose that could be true," She mused with a finger on her chin. "So, what's your name?"

"Don't you already know it?" I asked, a bit confused as to why she didn't just read the words above my head.

"You're a difficult one, you know that?" She sighed. "Well, my name is Leeku."

"I know. The words told me," I replied casually. She looked amused at this, and also a little bit confused.

"Your name?" She asked after staring at me oddly for a few seconds.

"It's Sprout…" I said, probably giving her an equally odd stare in return. Maybe she can't read.

"Okay…" She scanned the area while she spoke; gazing over the lake before landing on my Giglamarina. "Well, I'm gonna go eat some of that fish over there."

"Wait, that's mine!" I tried to reach for her but she was already gone. However, about halfway to my fish, No Name jumped out of the surrounding woods and skidded to a stop at her feet, teeth exposed and growling.

She was surprised, so it gave me enough time to catch up and stand guard in front of my food. No Name ran over to me and stood in front of me, glaring at Leeku with narrowed eyes.

"Did you tame that meta-wolf?" She asked, clearly surprised.

"I beat her in a fight and made her my party member. Since then she's been following me around," I told the girl cautiously. "Her name is No Name."

"You mean she has no name, right? Or is her name actually No Name?" Leeku asked as her arms dropped to her sides.

"Her name is No Name."

"Wow, you're really creative," She scoffed with a smile on her face.

"Thank you, but I didn't name her that, that's just her name," I replied, a little confused at her tone.

"Doubtful, but I'll go along with it," She chuckled. "So are you going to let me have some of your food or what?"

"Why would I do that?" I asked with my fists raised.

"Wow, you really don't know anything about charming a woman, do you?" She rolled her eyes, before crossing her arms and looking me dead in my eyes.

The intensity of her stare triggered something inside of me that I hadn't felt before. My heart started to beat faster in my chest along with an unsettling swirling in my stomach. I had the sudden urge to look away at anything other than those captivating red eyes.

"Alright, here's how it's going to go. If I can put you on the ground in less than 5 seconds, I can have some of the fish," She suggested.

I smirked a little to myself. That would be a piece of cake. "Dea-"

The wind was gone from my body faster than I could blink. I didn't even realize that I was on the ground until I turned onto my side and saw that the trees were sideways and my legs were in the air. She's strong...

The budding emotions only got worst.

"Wow, this is great," I heard her behind me and mumbled under my breath.

"Girls are weird..."

After that day, I encountered Leeku at the lake more often than not. She usually didn't stay long, mainly coming to swim with me for a little and steal some of my food. Our conversations were mostly about random things, but talking with a Saiyan that wasn't trying to kill me was nice.

She lived in the village that I was from, or at least the same village that my family was living in. I didn't tell her that piece of information though. I didn't want her to look at me in the same way that my father had looked at me when he saw my power level.

Swimming with someone else was admittingly more enjoyable than doing it on my own, which I hadn't expected. She taught me something called 'tidal tag', which was basically trying to touch the other person with a massive wave of water. I thought it was going to be much easier than it turned out, but I was yet to tag her even once. She was extremely fast, and even when she offered to start as the tagger, her waves were way too big for me to dodge without fully submerging, which wasn't allowed

Today was going to be different though, I could tell the moment that I saw her face. She had a wide, toothy grin and wore clothes that covered her entire body, which was unusual. On her back was a curved object that I hadn't seen before.

"We're going on an adventure!" She proclaimed giddily.

"An adventure?" I asked. "Where?"

"We're on an adventure to steal a Wyvern egg!"

"And that is?" I asked slowly, eyebrows raised.

"Oh come on, how do you not know what a Wyvern is?!" She threw her hands in the air. "They're the most fearsome creatures on this planet!"

"Really?" I asked, a little curious now. "Wait, if it's so fearsome, why are we trying to steal its egg?"

"Because it'll make us rich! And trying to get one gives you a super adrenaline rush!" She explained, an excited grin on her face.

"What's adrenaline?" I asked.

"You'll see," She rolled her eyes at me, which had become a regular action at this point. "Where's No Name?"

Upon hearing her name, No Name came out of the lake and strutted over to me. While she did, she shook the water off of her fur in Leeku's direction. The Saiyan teen effortlessly sidestepped the water while smiling widely at the Meta-Wolf, a curious look in her eyes.

They're so weird around each other. No Name wouldn't let Leeku touch her, even going as far as to try to attack Leeku once when she tried to steal my food. Of course, Leeku was too quick and No Name's attacks were in vain. That didn't stop the Meta-Wolf from snarling at her every chance that she got.

Leeku on the other hand, I wasn't sure about. I couldn't read her much at all, besides the fact that she was outspoken, fun to swim with, and hadn't tried to kill me yet. Although this adventure that she's proposing sounds pretty insane.

While I hadn't heard of a Wyvern, I wasn't a complete idiot. If they were the most fearsome creature on Planet Plant, and I was almost killed by a baby Meta-Wolf just a week and a half ago, what chance did I have at this? Surely this was a march to death…

I opened my mouth to dismiss her adventure, but when she turned to me, her scarlet eyes shining with excitement and mischief, I sighed, giving in to the strange feeling in my gut, and nodded my head.

"So, when do you want to go?"

"Let's go now!" She stretched out her back and turned in a direction that I now assumed was West. "Unless you have some things that you want to grab before we go? Some weapons?"

I was more concerned with the words that had just appeared in front of me. This was new. A mission from somewhere other than my ship? Weird… And even weirder, Leeku ignored the giant words that sat between both of us. She must have noticed my expression because she took a step towards me and waved in my face.

"Do you have any weapons that you want to bring?" She asked again.

"Oh, yeah, for sure," I nodded my head as the words dissolved into the air. "Back at my cave."

"Cave?" She raised a curious eyebrow. "Does your entire town live in a cave?"

"Just me," I replied. Before she could reply, I pivoted on my heel and headed to my Giglamarina. "You can come back to my Cave with me while I get them if you want?"

"How forward of you, Leeku," She chuckled with a sly smirk. "Lead the way."

I raised an eyebrow at the strange tone in her voice, but shrugged my shoulders and walked towards my Giglamarina. Once I got close enough, I put a hand on its head and looted it.

Unlike the Meta-Wolf's body, the parts of Giglamarina were much bigger. A lot of fish flesh was left behind, along with some of its bones that could be used as weapons. Some were sharp, and some were blunt but large and very durable. I took everything from the first Giglamarina, so I didn't need to take the weapons from this one.

Once I gathered as much fish as I could in my two arms and mouth, I looked over at Leeku, who stared at me with uncertain wide eyes.

"You're the strangest Saiyan that I've ever met, you know that?" She asked. I simply shrugged my shoulders before flying off in the direction of my cave.

She followed until we got to the mouth of my cave. With clear hesitation in her voice, she said, "I'm going to stay here."

I looked back at Leeku from a few meters into my cave, fish still in my mouth. I dropped it from my mouth and No Name comfortably caught it between her teeth.

"Why?" I asked.

"For one, I can't see at all in there," She said quickly. "And secondly, I haven't decided if you're fully sane or not yet."

"Sane?"

"It's hard to explain," She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "But if I was forced to, I'd say that a sane person is usually predictable. But the opposite of a sane person is someone who is insane, or crazy, which makes them unpredictable, and usually, dangerous."

"What makes you think that I might be crazy?" I asked in response. What's so wrong with being unpredictable? That keeps your enemies on their toes.

"Well, for one, you said that you knew my name before we even met. That the words told you," She crossed her arms over her chest while she spoke. "You've also tamed a Meta-Wolf, which I'm pretty sure is impossible. And on top of that, you call her No Name, and insist that she's your Party Member, whatever that means."

"That's because she is. That's what the words told me after I brought her back to life," I informed her.

"See, that's something a crazy person would say," She said pointedly as if that concluded her thinking on the matter. "Things don't just come back to life."

"I mean, can't you do it too?" I suddenly asked. "I thought it was a part of adolescence?"

"And there you go saying bigs words like adolescence, but you don't even know what sane or adrenaline is," She went on, before back peddling. "Of course I can't bring things back to life. It's not possible."

"Except that it is," I said, my eyes slowly looking down at No Name. "She was definitely dead before the words appeared."

"You know what, nevermind, you're clearly at least partly insane," She leaned up against the mouth of the cave and closed her eyes. "No point arguing with you about it."

"If you think I'm so insane, then why do you want me to come with you to get the Wyvern egg?" I asked. Although I personally didn't see the flaws in this 'insane' concept that she wanted to label me with, she clearly was cautious, so why travel with me?

"Because you're entertaining," She replied quickly. Interestingly, her cheeks flushed the slightest shade of pink for a split second, before returning to normal. "Besides, I said that I didn't want to go into a dark, possibly booby-trapped cave, with you. Out in the open, I can handle myself well enough."

"Hmm," I thought about the words, before turning down the path that led further into the cave. "Alright. Well, I'll be quick."

The walk to my cavern was full of confusion. Leeku doesn't see the words? It doesn't look like she knows anything about this game thing. Why not?

By the time that I arrived, I came to the only logical conclusion. Only guys could see the words. That's the only thing that made sense.

With that topic off of my head, I started to prepare my equipment for the mission. I pulled out all of my weapons first and looked over them. Twenty Meta-Wolf teeth, five Giglamarina bone daggers, two large bones that I assumed would be good for squashing things, and my trusty metal spike.

According to the words, the metal spike does the most damage. The teeth did small amounts of damage, but I think a well-placed hit in the eye could probably blind a few creatures. The daggers weren't far behind the spikes, but their durability was lower, which wasn't convincing. If only they were better.

[Craftable]

X3 Giglamarina Bone Daggers [Adult Size] = Giglamarina Katana

[See Giglamarina Sword Stats?]

Craftable… That's what came up when I killed the Meta-Wolf the other day. I didn't need to think before I agreed to see the stats.

Giglamarina Katana

Status - Great Quality

Durability - High

Damage - Strength Stat + 60

Description: This sword is fashioned from the bones of several Giglamarina. The Giglamarina katana functions like an ordinary katana blade, capable of piercing and cutting its opponent to death.

Wow… I thought to myself upon reading its description. Definitely getting that.

Immediately upon thinking it, the daggers disappeared and were replaced with a much cooler new weapon. It was much longer than the dagger, but not uncomfortable for my height. Its color was white, with a slight yellowish tint. Small cracks littered the surface, but nothing too concerning.

I admired my new weapon with awe, before looking down at the teeth on the floor in front of me. I wonder if…

[Craftable]

Giglamarina Katana + 20 Meta-Wolf Teeth = Giglamarina Katana [Upgrade +]

I wasted no time deciding on this one. Both the teeth and the katana disappeared, reappearing in my hand a moment later, but different. Instead of the sharp edge on one end of the katana, a row of sharp teeth now ran down the length of the blade until it reached a shiny, yet boney hilt. The cracks in the blade were now filled with a black material that resembled Meta-Wolf teeth.

Giglamarina Katana [Upgraded +]

Status - Great Quality

Durability - High

Damage - Strength Stat + 80

Description: This sword is fashioned from the bones of several Giglamarina. The Giglamarina katana functions, unlike an ordinary katana blade. While it is still capable of piercing, its ability to cut has been replaced with the ability to tear.

Now, this is a weapon. I swung it around a few times, listening to the way the blade tore through the air with ease. It did much more damage than my spike and it had a longer reach. Speaking of my spike…

I looked down at it and then at my katana briefly, before changing my mind. I'd need a backup weapon if my katana broke.

So that's it for weapons. I looked down at the rest of my stuff, quickly putting on my ordinary shirt, which I typically leave behind when I go swimming, followed by my Meta-Wolf fur that I was using as a cloak. I threw it over my shoulder, sticking my head up through a small hole so that it fits around my neck comfortably. It fell down my back perfectly.

Turning to my left, I grab a small stash of Bizel Berries that I'd found one day when exploring the trees near the lake. After observing the fish meat before I ate it, I found out that meat also raised my health, and so did meat, but they were too much effort to carry around compared to small berries. I picked up several with my tail, before also picking up my katana and leaving the cave behind. No Name strutted behind me confidently.

"You took long enough," Leeku said, her eyes still closed like when I left her. When she looked over, her eyes narrowed slightly at my sword, and then my cloak.

"I thought you lived alone in there?" She asked; her eyes scanning me in a way that gave my stomach have a heartbeat.

"I do," I replied simply.

"You're telling me that you made that sword?" She questioned. "And that cool-looking cloak?"

"Kind of?"

"There is no kind of, either you made it or someone else did," She asked. She took a few steps closer to me to get a better look at the sword, her face only inches away from mine.

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," My voice felt weaker when she was so close to me; the churning in my stomach intensifying. Her scent was powerful, overpowering my sense of smell with a delightful aroma. Somehow I managed to continue, saying "But trust me, I'm the only one that lives in there."

"Bullshit."

"Well, you're welcome to go and have a look," I took a deep breath and brushed past her and out into the open air. The moment she was no longer in my sight, the feeling started to fade away.

"Touche…" Her voice behind me still seemed curious, but I doubted that she'd go in. At least not today.

"Well then, let's go."

The journey took us a long way away from my cave, and out of the forest of trees. It took us a decent amount of time to get off of the mountain entirely, but thankfully we went in the opposite direction to my birth town.

Once the forest had ended, there were endless fields of grass, but that eventually disappeared and became sand. Leeku said that this was where the Great Divide began. When I asked her what the Great Divide was dividing us from, she told me an interesting story.

Apparently, what was now the Great Divide, used to be an extension of the forest that connected to the mountain that we'd just come from. It went on for many miles, leading all the way to the western mountains of Atross. While the mountains themselves were vast and volcanic, an eruption was not the cause of the massive change in scenery.

It was what lived beyond the mountains that devastated the land.

"Tuffles?" I had asked. "What's a Tuffle?"

"They're soulless creatures who settled on this planet a few centuries after us, but they were unsatisfied with the little land that we offered them," She said through whispered breaths. "They drove the Plant people to extinction, and then set their sights on us."

"Wow..." I replied as we slowly made our way through the sand-covered ground. A group of people strong enough to threaten the entire Saiyan race sounded impossible to me. "What happened after that?"

"The war lasted 10 years," She continued. "It was devastating. A lot of Saiyan warriors died, but in the end, the Saiyan army managed to infiltrate the main Tuffle city and do some major damage. That was enough to strike some fear into the Tuffle King's heart, but not enough."

"What did he do?" I asked, the look on her face giving me a chill down my spine.

"The King, in a final act of aggression, unleashed a powerful weapon that scorched a gigantic ring around the Tuffles territory, completely obliterating anything that was unlucky enough to be caught in it. It took out a large number of the Saiyan army, the ones who were making a slow retreat from the battle," She explained as she pointing at either side of her at the sands that seemed to stretch on forever in every direction.

"And then the war ended. Since then, they haven't attacked us, and we haven't been able to break through the shield that surrounds their land," Leeku sighed as she came to her conclusion. "That was 15 years ago."

"That's…" I stumbled to find a word for the mass destruction that the Tuffles laid upon my people. "Wow."

"Yup…"

"So you were born when it happened?" I asked.

"Yeah, but barely," She said, before seething her teeth. "My father was killed by the attack."

I wasn't sure what to say, so I stared straight ahead and continued to walk. We stayed in silence for a few more minutes, before she continued.

"I'm going to get my revenge one day, I promise you that," She growled. "I'll kill the King of the Tuffles with my own hands."

I turned to look at her and was slightly taken aback by the scowl etched deep into her usually appealing face. With a conviction like that… There wasn't a doubt in my mind that she wasn't going to accomplish her goal. With a supportive voice, I said, "I believe you."

"Good, now shut up so I can think about how we're going to steal this damn egg…"
