Chapter 18: Royalty

"And if it's a Saiyan, we'll kill them on the spot."

He knew that if he was caught eavesdropping, they'd probably arrest him on the spot, but after hearing the end of that conversation, the owner of the auction knew that it was worth it. As he departed from the other side of the door, sweat now pouring down his face, he knew he had to make a decision.

Business would tank if news got around that the royal family had arrested someone who participated in the auction, Saiyan or not. And especially Saiyans, seeing as they often brought the more unique artifacts. Things that can't be obtained inside the protective bubble of the Tuffle territories, or in Saiyan territories far too dangerous for a Tuffle to venture.

And just like that, he made a decision. He just hoped that it was the right one.

It's only four Tuffles, we can handle them. I told myself, still not moving from my spot. However

My eyes flickered over to the large man, who'd taken off his mask to reveal a heavily scarred face. He returned my stare with a hateful glare, and I took the time to briefly re-read his sheet.

Gender - Male

Age - 50

Oak is the result of a Tuffle woman being violated by a Saiyan and somehow surviving. He grew up with a powerful hatred for Saiyans and at a young age, his advanced intellect and war strategies, along with his physical prowess and willingness to fight, made him stand out among others. He rose through the ranks quickly and now has his own division.

While he's never met you personally, he hates you for being a Saiyan. The only reason he hasn't tried to kill you is due to orders from the princess.

He is currently annoyed that a Saiyan thought they were smart enough to get away with this.

This is bad… I gulped and tried to calm my breathing. I hesitantly took a step back, but when he took a step forward to match mine, I paused. Shit.

"She won't repeat herself twice," He spoke, his voice powerful and clear. We didn't have a choice. Turles wasn't convinced, though, as his grip only increased.

"As if I'd listen to some random Tuffles," Leeku began, her voice slowly becoming more hostile with each word. "We're le-"

"Stop!" I couldn't stop the words from leaving my mouth, shutting Leeku up before she got us killed. She snapped her head to me, and I could see the gears in her head shifting. It made sense, really. She couldn't see their power levels. She probably thought that they were all just normal Tuffles.

But none of them are normal, are they? I didn't have time to read the other sheets, instead, keeping my eyes planted on the half-Saiyans every movement. Even still, I didn't need their sheet to see that they were dangerous if only the fact that they were completely calm even with scouters on their faces. They knew our power levels and they weren't threatened at all.

Even still, what was our best option? If they wanted to kill us, we'd be dead already right? Or perhaps they just want to do it in a secluded area so as to not scare the other Tuffles. And in that case, it would be better to run. But, if we run, if they did plan on sparing us, that would be out of the window. Oak could probably catch all of us with a power level so high, anyway.

Panicked, and not quite sure of my decision, I shook off Turles grip and took a step into the room. Pushing past the startled Leeku, I sat down in the center seat and my eyes shifted down to meet the eyes of the princess.

"Looks like this one has some balls," The blue-haired Tuffle in the back chuckled under his breath. I didn't dare take my eyes off of the princess, though, even as I read her sheet.

Princess of the Tuffle Empire

Azalea Rose

Species - Tuffle (Altered)

Gender - Female

Age - 22

Reputation - Deep Hatred

Azalea is the eldest daughter of the Tuffle King, Froot. Her hatred was born from witnessing the death of her mother at the hands of Bardock. Since then, it's been her personal mission to exterminate the Saiyans, at any cost.

While she's never met you personally, she hates you for being a Saiyan. The only reason she hasn't killed you yet is that she wants information out of you.

She is pleased that you didn't try to run away and cause a scene.

What does it mean to be an altered Tuffle? I continued our staring match in silence, confused greatly by her sheet. I'd observed quite a few Tuffle as I made my way through the city, and none of them had a power level above 200. How was it so high? So high that I couldn't even see it?

I heard the door to the room click shut behind us, and the mood only intensified. Slowly, the seat next to me screeched backward as Turles took it and sat slightly behind me.

The staring match ended when I finally managed to bring myself to speak. "You have our attention. Now, what do you want?"

A feeling unlike any other flooded me, as every inch of my body screamed for me to MOVE. I tried to take in a breath, but I couldn't even get my lungs to work. The only thing I could manage to shift, even a little, was my eyes. And what I saw was something that made my knees buckle.

The entire room was darkened, and stood just a few feet from me was a figure of pure shadow. The only light about him was his eyes, which stared at me with wide eyed loathing. I'm going to die here.

No… Move! I won't die like this! Even despite my hammering heart, I pushed. Pushed my legs, my arms, anything. It felt like I was trying to move through extremely harsh waters. But eventually, I found myself just a foot in front of the figure. Despite my shaking, I lifted my head to stare into those eyes, and I spoke.

"Do that again and I'll kill you."

Like a flash, his arm reached up at me, fingers outstretched like he was planning on crushing my head. Just before he could reach me, though, the pressure suddenly dropped and the shadows rolled away. Underneath it revealed Oak, and on his shoulder, a hand rested gently. Whoever it was, it stopped him in his tracks.

"Settle down, Oak," The voice sounded young, child-like. "He just asked what we wanted. Nothing wrong with that."

"He was disrespecting your si-"

"That's an order!" The voice spoke again, and Oak's jaw slammed shut. Reluctantly he stood to the side, revealing to me the image of the boy.

He looked like he was approaching adolescence, barely coming up to my shoulders. His hair was slicked back and shiny somehow, but the thing that caught my attention most was his eyes. There was no anger or hatred. He was just… Sad.

Prince of the Tuffle Empire

Wood Rose

Gender - Male

Age - 12

Wood is a son of the Tuffle King, Froot. From a young age, he's always been curious about Saiyans, and that curiosity grew into something that often puts him at odds with other Tuffle. Even despite his young age, his intellect has landed him a place as one of the King's personal advisers.

He doesn't know much about you, but he doesn't think that you deserve to die.

He is feeling anxious, knowing that the situation could devolve at any moment.

He has the same power as Zaria! The second thought hit me a second later. He doesn't want to kill us like the rest.

"You're just trying to get a violent response so you have an excuse to kill them," Wood said, his voice a low hiss as he came to my defense. "I don't want to hear a word out of you until we're done with them, understand?"

The room was silent for a few seconds before Oak crossed his arms and took his place back behind Azalea. Finally, he replied, "Understood."

"Good," The prince replied, before turning to face me. "Let's get back to it. Your seat?"

Wood lifted his hand and the fallen chair lifted off of the ground and slid back next to me. I breathed a sigh of relief, one I hadn't known that I'd been was when I finally saw the rest of the room again.

Turles was half out of his seat but was paused in motion. The cat masked Tuffles were standing at either side of him, but they looked different. Metal that seemed to shimmer encased them both, fitting to their body smoothly. The only reason I recognized them was due to the fact that the metal extended onto their head and formed two cat eats. The female's circular disk weapon glowed a bright blue, and the male had a sword that looked to be of the same metal as the armor.

What truly shocked me was the fact that their levels had both changed, which was something that I'd never seen happen so quickly. Before, I could at least see the numbers floating over their heads, but now they both had a question mark like the princess.

Leeku didn't move from her spot, and she had a look of pure shock on her face. Her eyes did not leave Oak, who ignored her completely.

"How did you three come into possession of the Heir egg?" The Tuffle Princess, Azalea spoke again, staring at me. I swallowed once, then sat.

"Leeku and I stole it from Atross mountain," I answered.

"Ah, so you are the ones who caused the raids," She replied, her eyes narrowing. "Do you even know the damage you've caused? The people you killed?"

"Raids?" I asked. "We didn't raid anyone."

"No, but the Wyverns did in search of their Heir," She said. "Thousands of Tuffles died."

"Oh…" I leaned back in my chair. "Okay?"

"Okay?" Her eyes narrowed even further, and I could feel the change. I couldn't put a finger on it, but I knew immediately that was the wrong thing to say. "Did you intend on causing the Wyverns to attack us?"

"No. We just wanted the egg so that we could sell it."

Her stare intensified, and I did my best to match it. '

'Sprout,' Zaria's voice spoke into my head. It took everything in me not to jump.

'Where have you been?!' I yelled back at her.

'I've been right here. Gathering my energy.'

'For what?' I asked. 'You have a plan?'

'Yes,' She said, and for the first time in the last few minutes, I had hope. 'I'm not sure how strong the rest of them are, but that boy… His magic is so strong that it hurts to be in the same room as him. We can't fight them.'

'Yeah… The rest of them are pretty strong too. So what's the plan?'

'I'm going to teleport us all out of here. It'll be tricky though,' Her voice was suddenly unsure. 'We'll all have to be in touching distance, and I need another few minutes or so to gather enough magic.'

'Alright… Make sure you let the others kno-'

'You see, that would be a good plan, except that you don't have a few minutes,' The voice of Wood barged into the conversation, and I couldn't stop my physical reaction.

"Something surprises you, Saiyan?" Azalea asked, leaning forward to look closer at me. "You wouldn't be planning a way of escaping, would you?"

"No," I lied quickly.

"Wood?" She spoke, referring to her brother but her gaze did not leave mine. My heart slammed into my ribcage like a punch, as I awaited his response.

"He's telling the truth," Wood replied, shocking me even more. "That initial shock was due to me entering his mind."

"And what would you be doing there?" She asked, finally turning her head to squint her eyes at me. She doesn't trust him fully, does she?

"Prying for information, just like you. What else?" He asked, a slick, yet childish smile gracing his face. She didn't seem too convinced though, but she turned back to me anyway.

He's helping us? Why? I asked myself. That's two times he's saved my life. He doesn't think we deserve to die, but isn't this a little far?

'Listen, and listen closely,' He spoke again, directly into my head. 'She isn't going to spare you and she doesn't have many more questions left to ask. My advice, girl? Grab the one you care about the most, and leave.'

'No, we're not leaving Turles!' My response was instant, but Zaria's lack thereof was evident. 'Zaria, I will not leave Turles!'

When she didn't reply, it took all of my willpower to suppress my panic. I felt her hand touch the back of my neck, but before she could do anything, I screamed, 'If we leave him here, I'll never forgive you!"

She hesitated, and thankfully the room stayed in focus.

"So Saiyan, what primitive village are you from? Did you steal the egg on the orders of another?" Azalea continued again, regaining my attention.

"I'm not from any specific village. Not yet at least," I told her. "And no, again. She told me about it and we thought that it would be fun. A challenge."

"You Saiyans… Always thinking about what's fun, but ignoring that your actions have consequences," She rolled her eyes, before standing up and snarling. "Stupid creatures. All of you. Fun. Well, your fun took innocent Tuffle lives!"

'She's losing her patience! You don't have much more time!' Wood shouted.

'Zaria, wait!' I ordered her. 'Please!'

I could feel her pressing up against my neck, and the room fading out of focus, and out of nowhere, words sprung out of me.

"We're sorry!"

The silence was deafening. I didn't mean the words at all, but I hoped that it would stall for time. I'm not sure how long the silence lasted before the sound of chuckling started. It was a small, weak sound at first, before eventually becoming full-blown laughter. When I looked up, the princess was in hysterics. I'm not sure why, but her laughter was far worse than the silence.

"A Saiyan… A Saiyan capable of sympathy?" Her laughter began to die down slowly, only to be replaced with a sick grin. "You crack me up!"

I couldn't dodge the punch that sent my world into darkness.

"Yes! Did you hear?! There is royalty in one of the rooms upstairs!"

"Royalty! There's no way! I've got to see this for myself!"

Already, civilians were piling into the auction house in droves. Barco didn't go himself, instead sending his many employees to spread the word. There was no way that the royals would listen to him on his own, but if a crowd of people was to find them? They wouldn't have the time to focus on the Saiyans at all. His business would be safe.

"This… This is good…" He decided, before wiping a huge glob of sweat off of his forehead. Turning to his closest employee, he ordered. "Tell the rest to hint which room it is."

"Yes sir."

"He's had enough!"

Wood's scream woke me from my unconsciousness. All I could feel was pain, with most of it in my face. I could feel pieces of my mask digging into my skin, and when I opened my eyes, I saw Azalea looking down at me with disdain in her eyes. Her fist was raised above her head, and it was dyed with my blood.

"Showing empathy for the Saiyans again? How typical!" She drawled over her shoulder. "They're going to die anyway, why not show them a little of the pain they caused?"

"Are we surprised? Prince Wood is obsessed with these creatures," One of the voices, the cat masked female, giggled. "Maybe he shouldn't be in the room when we kill them. He's still a little kid, after all."

"I'm 12!" Wood spoke up again, his voice rising as he spoke. "And they're not creatures! They're kids too!"

"Saiyan kids. What's the difference?" The male retorted. "You know how many people they've killed just to be on this planet? Fuck, probably billions!"

"They don't know any better!" Wood argued, suddenly appearing next to his sister and putting a hand on her arm which held me in the air by my shirt. "If you're going to kill them, at least do it quickly! Don't torture them! It's cruel and animalistic!"

"Are we really doing this now?" Oak spoke up again, only to receive a harsh glare from Wood. "Not to speak out of turn Prince, but you're overreacting."

"Overreacting?!"

The squabble continued as my vision slowly restored. The only thing on my mind was the fact that I'd just been knocked out. A Tuffle had knocked me out with one punch. No one had ever knocked me out with one punch before.

"If you want to be a child about it, leave the room," Azalea ended the debate after some time, now glaring daggers at her little brother. His face was now a cherry red, but he didn't move for the door.

"No! You can't ju-"

"Yes, we can!" Her voice overpowered his with ease. "Saiyans have no rights on Tuffle land. They'll be sentenced to death back home, I'm just speeding up the process."

Rights... An idea sparked into my head and I wanted to slap myself for not thinking of it earlier.

"I'm…" I started speaking, but paused to spit out a glob of blood. They all turned to me, but I stared at Azalea as I spoke. "I'm half-Tuffle…"

The atmosphere changed immediately, as Azalae stood off of my body and stared at me with an unreadable emotion. At the corner of my eyes I saw Leeku's eyes widen considerably. Oak looked down at me with a raised eyebrow and a frown, and the two other's faces were covered by their armor.

Of course, I didn't know if it was true, but it was worth a shot.

"Wood, is he telling the truth?" Azalea asked, her green eyes piercing mine. Wood began to speak, but she turned to him sharply, causing him to shut it. "And don't you dare lie. I'll know it."

The young Tuffle prince grumbled something under his breath before down at me with a frown. After a few seconds, he said, "He… He isn't sure… While he knows he isn't a full Saiyan, he isn't sure what his other half is."

"But it's possible that he is a Half-Tuffle?" Azalea asked.

"Yeah. His mind is… Different. Not like any normal Saiyan I've met," Wood replied. "But… Hold on…"

"What is it?" Oak asked cautiously.

"His… His face…" Wood's voice was uncertain, as he slowly approached and crouched down next to me. The princess's eyebrow raised, but the longer she stared at me, the quicker her face began to change. It went through several emotions, before landing on pure disbelief.

"It's a little hard to see with the mask sticking out of it, but…" Wood clicked his fingers and the pieces of the mask faded into nothing. The wounds on my face disappeared with it. "No, there's no mistaking it. He-"

"There's no way!" The blue-haired lady in the back exclaimed, her usual playful attitude abandoned. "It must be a coincidence!"

"A coincidence?" Oak grumbled under his breath, disappointment ingrained into each word. "I don't think so."

"Let's not speculate," Azalea spoke again, her voice low and somehow, her face was unreadable yet again. "Heal him up, Wood. He'll be coming back with us."

What?

"Are his friends half-Tuffle too?" She went on before I could process the change of attitude towards me. Wood paused for a second, before grimacing and shaking his head. Nonchalantly, she turned towards Turles and Leeku and ordered, "Alright. Kill them both."

"Wait!" I shouted desperately, and I was surprised to see that everyone paused. The weapons pointed at Turles neck were centimeters from piercing him, but the weapon owners looked towards me, and then Azalea, in uncertainty.

'Zaria! They're not going to kill me anymore! Turles and Leeku are close enough to each other that you can teleport away with them!' I yelled quickly through our mindlike. 'This is your opportunity! Go! Please!'

The pressure on my neck increased for a few seconds before it vanished completely. I held my breath as Azalea narrowed her eyes and turned to face the two people who were poised to kill Turles.

"That was an order," She clarified. They straightened out and then their weapons began to move. Like a switch, Turles's aura burst to life in every direction. They were thrown off of their feet for a second, but the metal on their legs shifted and became blades that dug into the ground, anchoring them to the spot.

Leeku already had two energy balls in her hands aimed towards the large hybrid who stood with his arms crossed. She moved to throw it, but as her arm arched, Leeku and Turles vanished like they were never there.

"What the fuck?"

"Where'd they go?!"

"Wood, what did you d-"

"That's Prince Wood," He said sharply, while also putting his hands in the air. "But it wasn't me! Promise!"

A series of knocks on the door caused everyone to turn. Once I heard whispering coming from underneath it, I looked at my mini-map and saw dozens of yellow dots hanging outside the door. More were approaching, from all directions, into the hundreds.

"Shit, how did they know?" The blue-haired male hissed.

"Probably the owner," Azalea grimaced, before turning to her team. "We need to leave before this causes a scene. Wood?"

The adolescent nodded his head and with the flick of his wrist, a long wooden stick about the size of his body appeared in his hand.

Staff of Wood

Status - Unbreakable

Description: This item is very high tier. It is used to negate the strain of mana on the body. It was crafted by Wood at the heart of four major weather phenomena.

If I let them escape with me, there's no telling where they'll take me. I took a deep breath and prepared for action. There was no way I was going to allow them to take me. My eyes locked onto the box of money, sitting forgotten on the ground, and I knew I wasn't leaving without that, either.

I had an idea. Probably a bad one, but it would have to do until Zaria came back for me.

Behind me was the door, and a few steps ahead of me was the box. Without much hesitation, I moved. I filled my body with ki and it only took far less then a second to touch the box and be back where I started. The moment I touched it, the box disappeared into my safe place.

All of their eyes turned to me as they realized what I was doing. Oak was the first to move, and then the two ones covered in metal. Despite nothing standing between me and the door just a moment ago, now three bodies waited with their arms outstretched. Somehow, none of them reached me, and instead my back collided with something else.

The wall, which probably should have broken against my back with no resistance, held steady and I bounced off of it at full force. I gasped as pain racked my spine, but I didn't give up there. When I hit the ground, I pushed at it with all of my strength, intent on breaking it and dropping us to the next level.

Somehow, my hands melted into the ground, but it didn't break. After a few seconds of struggling, I growled and looked around the room to find the rest of them looking down at me. Azalea had a blank stare, while Wood had a slight smirk on his face. The tip of his staff was aglow with blue light.

"We can't let you go. You're coming back with us, whether you want to or not," The boy declared, his smirk only growing on his face. He got what he wanted in the end, didn't he?

"Alright, let's get going," Azalea prompted impatiently. Everyone nodded, and in response, Wood lifted his staff high into the air. Before he could slam it down, however, his eyes flickered to a spot just behind my back.

"Not so fast!" Wood yelled, his eyes glowing brightly at the same moment I felt someone touch my back. Thankfully, he didn't have time to react, because as soon as he spoke, the door to the room flew open and dozens of Tuffle began to stream in. The group immediately jumped in a circle, surrounding the prince and princess from the crowd.

The world around me shifted in a blur of colors, and the room disappeared.

Hello all! I've been really busy for the last few months with school and work, but I've recently reduced my availability. I have fresh new ideas for this story and have written quite a few chapters ahead. I hope you enjoyed this story! Also, before I get flamed, the box doesn't actually have any money in it, Sprout just thinks it did. The Tuffles just had it there as bait for them to go into the room. Don't forget to review!
