The Saiyan Gamer

Chap 21: Training Part 2

Sweat dripped down my shirtless body in floods.

I held my hand in front of me, palm to the sky, and tried to focus. Orange energy flowed out of my body and pooled itself above my hand. It was wavy and sparkled, unstable, but with a loud growl, it condensed down into a smooth ball. Slowly, I rotated my hand so that it faced forwards, towards a small river and a crowd of trees.

I took a very deep breath, before pushing it forward. At insanely fast speeds, the ball of energy shot out of my hand and towards the river. It flew over the surface, but the water still boiled into steam, and when it hit a tree on the other side, a large explosion shook the ground beneath me and caused the water to ripple violently.

Grinning widely, I waited for the notification to pop up.

Average Ki Manipulation Has Reached A Level Milestone!

Average Ki Manipulation Has Been Upgraded Into Above Average Ki Manipulation!

Above Average Ki Manipulation LV1 - You can use Ki throughout your body, and also outside of your body. Energy techniques and attacks will now be easier to use and create.

Satisfied, I tried to create another one, and it appeared in my hand with ease. Good…

The last week had been successful, to say the least. Training with Bardock was intense, but I was learning quickly, even faster than before. I accredited that to my increased intelligence. Interestingly enough, hand-to-hand combat wasn't like the other skills. It didn't start at below average and go up. Instead, it was just called 'Basic Martial Arts', and it improved much faster than the rest. I was already at level 10, and the biggest change was that it stayed at level 10 and didn't rest, or go any higher.

I wasn't sure why yet, but Bardock had mentioned that while I had the basics down, the only way I'd get better is to learn a specific style. Martial Art styles aren't rare on the planet, but in Omato village it was. They were big on different Weapon Art Styles, but according to Bardock, they were never big on Martial Arts. Weapons, after all, are usually better than fists. Thankfully, I have a plan for that.

Turles told me that they had a unique martial art style that ran in their family, and I planned on asking Bardock if he could teach it to me later today. However, Kakarot didn't even know it yet, so I doubted that I was next on Bardock's list to teach it. Either way, it didn't matter, seeing as I had plans for the next week leading up to the tournament.

I hadn't seen Leeku since she was taken away by her Mom, and I was training so much that I didn't get to speak with Zaria often. Still, she would sit and watch me silently as I trained, and the company was nice. I thought she looked good before, but after Gine cleaned her up and got her new clothes, she looked wildly better than before.

"You've finally got it," Luna's voice came from the forest behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see her strolling over to me, eyes watching the destruction that the energy ball had caused. She paused next to Zaria, who stroked her fur gently.

Luna disappeared shortly after we returned. The only reason I knew she was still alive was because I kept getting random experience points and I could see her on my map. I wasn't complaining though, those random experience points brought me right on the edge of level 16. When she came into view, I was surprised to see that her level had risen by two bringing her to level 15.

"Yeah," I replied, distinguishing the ball in my hand and fully turning to her. "You've been training too."

"Killing, yes," She said as she walked past me. I sniffed and immediately picked up the scent of blood and death. "Gaining experience and leveling up."

"Yeah, you've been killing a lot," I noted, following her with my eyes as she dipped into the shallow end of the river. "I've almost leveled up too. I'm not sure how many you've been killing, but based on the numbers from the Meta-Wolf cave, I think I get a fourth of the experience for the things you kill."

"Look at you, using that brain of yours," She chuckled. "Didn't I tell you that the intelligence stat was good? Have you raised it since you reached 20?"

I wiped the sweat off of my forehead, before replying, "Only by a few points. And I read that math book I picked up in Mossgrove. Very interesting stuff in there."

"May I borrow it?" She asked, before sinking low enough into the water that only her snout was visible.

"Of course. I'm done with it now,"

"Hmm," She hummed. "I suppose I'll also have to learn to read your language before I do that."

I walked over to the edge of the water and looked down at her. Changing the subject, I asked, "You were Turles' other student all along then?"

"I thought it could be a surprise," She replied from under the water. "Wasn't it?"

"It sure was," I said, mind going back to the moment those blue flames shot out of her mouth for the first time. "How'd you get your Ki to act like fire?"

"Well, it is fire," She replied quickly. "Fire enhanced by my Ki. Naturally, the older a Meta-Wolf gets, the better it gets at controlling the fire within them. I was impatient so I sped up the process by training my Ki."

"Would a Meta-Wolf be able to shoot fire if it was born without Ki?" I asked, eyebrows raised.

"Yes, but it would just be an ordinary flame."

"Is it possible for me to learn how to make fire?"

"Actually…" She rose from the water, and she looked concentrated for a second. "I'm not sure about that."

"Wow, there is something that you don't know," I chuckled dryly. She gave me a sharp look, before shaking off and getting water all over me.

"I have an idea for both of us to gain more experience," She said to me after stepping out of the river.

"Yeah?" I said, as I released Ki to vaporize the dirty water that she'd splashed on me. "What is it?"

"We could wipe out the Meta-Wolf cave completely," She suggested. "The entire colony. All of the Six, and the Queen."

"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," I acknowledged. "I'm sure they're plenty strong. They'll be a good source of experience points."

"Hmm, yeah, they will be," She nodded her head, before walking off back towards the forest. "Meet you at the entrance tonight?"

"Alright."

She left and shortly after I heard Zaria approaching me from behind.

'Are you enjoying your room?' I asked her, having felt her mind link with mine. 'I hope that the bed I made for you was comfortable enough. It wasn't exactly what I imagined, but I didn't have the same materials that the Tuffle beds were made of.'

She nodded her head, before replying, 'It's very nice. Thank you, again.'

'No need to thank me,' I replied, turning to look up the mountain. 'I'm just glad you like it. Anything would be better than how you lived on the Juggernaught, right?'

'You're right,' She replied quickly. 'I didn't get to thank you properly for saving me. If it wasn't for you I'd probably be trapped there for the rest of my life…'

'You helped me, so I helped you. As I said, there's no need,' I told her.

She began to approach me until she was just a few feet away. My heart started beating hard against my chest, and it only got worse until she was standing almost nose to nose with me. I tried to speak, but I ended up stuttering.

'There's no need, I know...' She said, her voice so soft and sweet that it sent tingles down my body. 'But I want to.'

I was completely lost for words when she leaned forward and our lips met. I melted into it quickly, as mini-explosions littered my body for every second until the moment she leaned back and the kiss was broken.

'Wow… That was…' I blinked several times, processing what just happened.

'That was a thank you,' She said, and then she smiled for the first time since we'd met. It was an incredible smile. 'And I will continue to thank you until my dying breath.'

'I… I can live with that.'

"The smaller meta-wolves aren't going to give us much experience points if any. Do you plan on ignoring them completely and focusing on The Six?"

Luna and I stood at the mouth of the Meta-Wolf nest, staring into the blue-tinged cave in anticipation. I thought about her question for a few seconds, turning to look down at her once I had my answer.

"If we keep them alive, they might interfere with our battles," I noted. "You wanted to fight Nymerio on your own, right?"

"I do," She said, her eyes suddenly glazing over as she stared through me. "I'll kill him with my own claws."

"Alright. In that case, I'll kill the little ones until we reach Nymerio's lair so that you don't have to waste energy," I decided. "I'll stay and watch, just in case."

"Sounds like a plan," She agreed, her voice a low growl. With one mind, we turned to the cave and entered.

My sword slid through the neck of yet another Meta-Wolf, its blood splashing across my already soaking armor. Flicking the remaining blood from the blade, I sheathed the sword and looked back at Luna, who was following behind me while also throwing the multitude of dead bodies into the Safe Place.

Fighting through the cave on my own was a lot easier this time, but they'd obviously increased the amount of Meta-Wolves patrolling the paths. It took a few hours just to get to Nymerio's lair, the fact that my endurance still wasn't great being the main issue. By the time we got to the lair, I was well ready for a break.

The majority of the kills didn't give me any experience points, but now I had plenty of Meta-Wolf fur for future projects and armors. The older ones also had 'fire sacs', which I was planning on exploring later. Even despite the decreased inexperience, though, it helped me to see how the math's behind my experience gain worked.

Killing things that are lower level than us gives us less experience, but how much? It took me contemplating on past occasions, but I realized that if the enemy was the same level as me, the experience that I'd get would be their level times 1000. However, if they're at a higher level, I get about a thousand more per level. If the enemy was weaker though, I'd get a thousand less per level. So, if I was level 16 and killed a level 12, the reward would be 12,000 minus 4000 because of the level gap, leaving me with 8000 experience points. Once I understood it, math became quite useful.

In the center of the large room, Nymerio lay on his stomach, glaring at us both with piercing blue eyes. Even though my power level was higher than his, I still felt a shiver down my spine. A smile ripped its way across my face, and I had to force myself not to reach for my sword. This is Luna's fight.

No words were exchanged between the two as Luna approached. I watched in complete silence, leaning myself up against the closest wall and folding my arms.

Her power level was slightly lower than his, with hers' being 900 and his, 960. I doubted that small difference would matter though. It would be a battle of skill. He was easy twice her size, and his fur looked like hundreds of black daggers. Behind him, his long pointed tail wagged.

The staring match kept up until suddenly they both made their first move. Nymerio's mouth snapped open and cerulean flames exploded out of it like water; bathing the air in front of him in flames. Even from a distance, the heat from the attack warmed my skin.

Instead of running, Luna roared and released her own attack. Despite her being smaller, the flamethrower that came out of her body was equal in size, and the two energy waves collided in the middle of the room. Light and heat exploded from the point of impact, so bright that I had to cover my eyes or risk losing them.

Neither let up, until suddenly Nymerio's jaws clamped shut and he dove to the side, narrowly avoiding Luna's approaching attack. The larger wolf ran across the ground, his strides slow but powerful. Luna rolled out of the way of the incoming attack, and the next, before running by his side and sliding her claws across it.

They separated with both jumping in separate directions. I scanned Nymerio for the injury, quickly spotting five, thin lines. They didn't look like they had any blood coming out of them, which meant that her attack didn't fully get through his defense. His fur is too durable…

"You can't hurt me, little pup," He spoke for the first time, his voice low yet alluring. "My armor is the best out of the Six."

"Your armor is the reason you'll lose today!" She growled, before charging again.

The fight kept on, and as I watched, I realized that she was right. His armor was powerful, but it must have been as heavy as it looked. His attacks were slow; far too slow to hit Luna. She dodged his attacks and repeatedly struck him all over, switching it up between her claws and her flames.

About 10 minutes later, Nymerio was panting and his armor was glowing red with heat. That was when Luna's attack started to slide through the fur and draw blood. She heated up the fur so much that it melted…

It wasn't long before the 'Prince' was groaning in pain and trying to retreat. Luna stalked him with predatory eyes, blocking his escape. In one last effort for survival, he reared his head back and let out a booming howl.

Out of small tunnels surrounding the room, meta-wolves came scuttering in and surrounded the two. I slowly leaned off my wall and reached for my sword, but stopped when I saw Luna look over at me and shake her head. I nodded back at her, before going back to my original position and watching.

About 30 Meta-Wolves surrounded the two fighters, growling at Luna. Her eyes didn't leave her target, however, even as she began to speak.

"I was once one of you!" She started. Her voice was loud and clear. "Nymerio treated us like slaves! We were simply workers for him, without free will of our own! Are you really willing to die for him?"

Her words turned more than a few heads, and before long their snarling faces turned to Nymerio, whose eyes widened in alarm.

"You'd turn on me for a traitor who turned on her own pack? Who brought a Saiyan to exterminate us?" He argued. Some more heads turned, and the exchange went back and forth until the sides were decided. They were split, most of the Wolves siding with Luna.

The battle ignited again with fury and howling. Lunas forces clashed with Nymerio's, and Luna engaged once again with her ex-boss. The fight didn't last much longer, Luna's superior speed proving to be too much for his slow armor. The metal melted enough so that her teeth sack right through into his bigger animal's throat, killing him quickly.

The remaining wolves stopped fighting and they all turned to Luna, who stood over the dead body with blood dripping off of her fur. Her breathing was hitched and her legs wobbled, but her expression was fierce. Slowly, they all began to bow, and the first battle was done.

Luna leveled up from the fight, and because I was close to level 16 before we'd even entered the cave, the 2000 experience points that I got for the fight leveled me up too.

"Looks like you've got some followers," I spoke aloud finally.

"We are a pack animal, after all. I took out the leader, so naturally, they follow me," She mused through ragged breaths.

"That fight got me excited. Would you mind if I fight the next one on my own?"

"Go right ahead," She replied. "Do you plan on going now?"

"Yeah. I was going to rest some more, but now I don't think I will," I smirked widely, before pushing myself off of the wall; making my way over to the large tunnel that I assumed would take me to the next member of the Six.

"The next one you'll face is Pleria. Remember my warning!" Luna shouted out to me, her voice echoing into nothingness as I disappeared down the tunnel.

For the next hour, I flew through the cave, dodging the angry Meta-Wolves that tried to stop my path. They all looked to be about the same power level as ones that we'd slaughtered before, so I didn't bother. I could fly faster than they could get to me.

Eventually, I found myself in another cavern, and in the middle sat a Meta-Wolf. Luna had described her as a small, skinny wolf, but that didn't quite describe what I was seeing. She was small, yes, even smaller than the regular Meta-Wolf, but instead of a food-deprived animal, I was facing a weapon.

Her fur was silver, and even from a distance, I could tell that it was extremely sharp. Her tail was fluffed out, sharp needle-like blades pointing out in every direction. Her eyes burned lavender as she stared at me. Her lips curled into a snarl.

Level 11

Pleria

Power Level - 726

"Looks like you know why I'm here," I said, brandishing my sword in my right hand. She snarled loudly, and the other Meta-Wolves surrounded us, blocking off both of the exits.

"I know your kind. The only purpose for your existence is to bring death and destruction," She replied.

I smirked. "You're right. I'll make this quick."

"You will try…"

I tightened my grip on the Fang of Flame, and looked up in the direction of her voice, only for my heart to stop. Where did she go?!

Ki erupted all over my body in an instant, and my hairs stood on edge. I heard the sound of scraping against crystal to my left, but by the time I swung my body around to look, she was gone. And then behind me. And then to my right. And then above me.

Sweat dripped down my forehead as I rapidly turned to try to catch her movements. Suddenly, I felt the air behind me shift, but before I even turned around I knew I was too slow. Claws sliced into my back, and then she was gone again.

Hissing as I turned, I swung my sword, cutting into nothing. Her next attack wasn't delayed, my leg being slashed a few seconds after the first. They didn't do that much damage, but the fact that I could barely see her would be a problem.

Her assault kept on for the next couple of minutes, and my vision started to get drowsy. Sweat made my clothes and armor stick to me, and my throat was parched. She wasn't slowing down by any means though, and my Ki was coming dangerously close to running out.

Slowly, I started to make my way to the exit, wildly swinging my sword in every direction to try to fend off any attacks. The smaller Meta-Wolves tried to stop me, but I sliced a few of them down with ease and slipped into the tunnel. Using the last bit of my Ki, I roared upwards, shooting an energy beam into the ceiling and causing it to partially collapse, blocking Pleria and her Wolves from me.

"Stronger than you expected, isn't she?" Luna's voice came from behind me.

"She's not stronger than me," I said through strained breaths. "She's just faster."

"Did you even get one hit in?" She asked, clearly amused.

"I went into the battle tired, it won't go the same way tomorrow," I grumbled under my breath. "She's fast, but that can only bring you so far, right? In fact, I already have a plan."

"Back already?" Pleria asked, tilting her head at me with a slight smirk on her face. My blood had dried on her claws.

"You're fast, I'll give you that," I admitted, as I pulled my sword from my back. "But that won't be enough to stop me."

I gave her no time to respond, throwing several Gilgamarina teeth at her at speeds so fast that they were likely invisible to the eyes of the other wolves. Still, she swayed to one side, before disappearing in a blur of movement. The teeth impacted where she stood moments ago, and in that short time, she was already onto me.

My sight wasn't fast enough, and by the time I heard her move, I only had seconds to react. A slight smirk grew on my face, and a second before her attack would have hit me, armor materialized around me. Her attack sliced across it with ease, but besides leaving a long line of scratched on it, she didn't do any damage at all.

The scowl on her face would have scared me if I hadn't known that she would be dead very soon. Upon skidding across the ground opposite me, she flashed her teeth and glared.

"You dare use the fur of my brother as protection!?" She howled murderously. "You evil species!"

I'd watched the fight between Luna and Nymerio, and besides the entertainment, his armor had interested me. It wasn't very practical in a normal fight because of how heavy it was, but in a fight like this, it was perfect. I didn't have to worry about defense, apart from the small areas around my joints and arms that allowed easier movement, so I could just focus on attacking.

She was small and quick, but if she kept up her fast movements she was bound to slow down at some point. And seeing as her fur armor was clearly extremely light, considering her insane movement speed, I doubted that she could take much damage.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The sounds of her going on the offensive filled my senses, but I ignored them in favor of focusing on something else. She surrounded me, slicing uselessly against my armor. I took another deep breath, moved my Ki, and snapped my eyes open.

When I opened them, the world was slightly slower than before. My body didn't move any quicker, but I could process things faster. Ki surrounded my eyes now, and this slight boost was what I needed. She clearly didn't notice the difference, continuing her same string of attacks. I waited and waited until the perfect moment presented itself. She was coming from above for an attack on the top of my head, but when she got close enough, I began to fall backward. My sword followed me upwards in a wide arc, in an attack that likely would have missed if, as I fell backward, I hadn't made my armor disappear. Her eyes widened in shock and alarm, but it was too late.

My sword easily slice off her outstretched leg, sending her off balance and crashing into the ground behind me. As soon as I hit my back, I rolled onto my feet and grinned down at her.

"How?!" She asked, her voice barely discernable through her pain.

"It's simple, really," I said, slowly unsheathing my sword. "But the dead don't need an explanation."

This time her response was mangled by the sound of a ferocious roar. She charged at me, considerably slower, and I was more than ready.

I ran to meet her, and to her credit, she met me head-on. My sword came down hard and was met with her sharpened tail. Spark flew before we broke off and she jumped backward. I chased her, and the battle continued.

We were at a standstill for a while, before I smirked and my attacks started to increase in speed and power. She was on the defensive, blocking my attacks and dodging the few that she could. Eventually, with a satisfying yelp of pain, my sword, burning white, cut right through her tail, severing it from her body completely.

She screamed in pain as she tried to retreat, but I wouldn't let her.

"Attack him! Kill him!" She ordered her minions with a panicked roar. "Kill hi-"

Her words were cut off by my sword lodging itself into her mouth and through her brain, pinning her to the wall behind her. Silence permeated the room, no one moving a muscle. The sword continued to burn, and soon enough, her small, dead corpse melted off of it and dropped to the ground. The other meta-wolves dispersed like ants.

Enemy Defeated!

6000 EXP Awarded!

Skill Obtained From Defeating a Mini-Boss

Lightweight - Once per combat experience, you can double your speed stat with no stamina withdrawal. Lasts 30 seconds.

Speed stat? I thought, confused. Since when was there a speed stat? In front of me, in response to my thoughts, the blood of the second member of The Six floated and formed into words.

The speed stat is a sub-class of the Strength stat. If not worked on, your speed stat will equal half of your strength stat. It can be increased separately from the strength stat.

First I've heard about it. I let the words fade as I stepped off of the dead body and sealed it into the Safe Place. The second Meta-Wolf royalty was smaller than Nymerio, but that didn't make her any less impressive.

According to my math, if I face the next member of the Six alone, it will bring me to almost level 18. I took a deep breath as Full Restore lifted the fatigue out of my body and refreshed me. But I did tell Luna I'd wait for her. In that case…

The Ki surrounding me cut off suddenly and I dropped flat on the floor. Carefully, I pushed my body off of the ground so that I was parallel with it, and then lowered myself again. And then I repeated it. Again and again.

Between the other books and training, I hadn't yet finished Yamoshi's book on getting stronger, but this was the first form of 'strength training' that he suggested… I continued doing what he called a 'push up', ignoring how stupid I would probably look if anyone saw me. This better work.

Surprisingly, the book talked about more than getting strength. Yamoshi went on for a few chapters about his childhood and growing up on planet Salada, our native planet. It was back before Scouters existed, but they could still somehow tell how strong each other was, which I found interesting and decided to check that out at some point.

I didn't get much further than that, though. I had other things to work on, and decided to check the rest out later if his 'push ups' had any sort of effect on me. I'd been doing a small amount of them every day, and this was the third or so day of waiting for a result. Truthfully, I wasn't trying very hard, because it was incredibly boring.

Approaching my thousandth pushup, I was prepared to give up, but was stopped by the sound of a ping.

Strength Stat Has Increased By 1 Point!

Wow, it actually did something. I rolled onto my back and sat up. I knew I could increase my intelligence stat without using attribute points, but I can do it with strength too? That's pretty cool. I wonder how I'd increase endurance. Guess I'll have to finish that book.

And I also guess these push-ups aren't as boring as I thought. I looked down at my arms, before rolling back onto my stomach and continuing my pushups with more determination than before.

The day came quickly, and in no time at all, I was standing at the gates of Omato town with Turles and his family at my side.

The entire town was buzzing with excitement, that much was clear even from outside of its walls. That excitement wasn't contained within the town, as I was hardly able to contain myself. Any nerves I had before were dashed to the side, overtaken with the desire to fight and prove myself.

"I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait!" Kakarot bounced up and down next to me, his eyes wider than plates and his fists balled tightly.

"Calm down, we're almost there," Bardock said, his voice low and his eyes staring straight ahead. He was the only one who didn't seem excited in the slightest, annoyed even. As we approached the village, people began to stare, but he ignored it completely.

"I hope we get to fight, Kakarot," I turned to the little Saiyan, a sly smirk on my face. "You won't be beating me ever again."

"Oh, yea?" He said, a sparkle in his eyes. "Let's fight right now!"

"Wait for the tournament, idiot," Turles half-groaned, half-chuckled from my side. I turned to my friend, who was just as excited as I was. He hadn't stopped grinning since I had met up with them in the morning. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to fight Turles, considering the power level gap. He'd be fighting in the tournament just after mine.

"How strong have you gotten, Sprout?" Raditz asked from behind me. He came along, just to watch the start of the first trial.

"That's a surprise," I replied, a small grin on my face. "But I'm nothing like I was before."

In the end, Luna and I didn't have enough time to clear the rest of the cave. Together, we killed two more of the Six, before deciding to finish it another time. After the first two, the next was quite boring, especially when fighting together. Because we shared the kills, it split the experience in half, and we both leveled up once more, bringing us both to level 18.

Apparently, when fighting together, the skill for killing the Mini-Boss is randomized between the two fighters. Unfortunately, Luna got lucky twice, getting an ability that allowed her to stand all of her fur on edge, and another that helped her manipulate the temperature of her flames.

In the short time that I had left, I continued to work out and found out a few other workout exercises by reading more of the book. Because I was working out with much more determination, my strength stat just kept increasing. I ran out of time when it rose to 50, which was four additional points.

After that, I used the 18 attribute points that I'd gained in the cave to raise my strength to 57, my endurance to 34, and my intelligence to 24. My power level now sat comfortably at 1,638.

We got to the entrance and the two guards didn't even try to stop us, welcoming us with dry nodding. The buildings were less than attractive. It was a serious downgrade from Tuffle housing and buildings, but I didn't really expect much more.

Territory Alert!

You've now entered a territory owned by Omato.

Partial ownership status - Pending

I ignored that in favor of keeping alert. Saiyans were flying everywhere, but the majority of people were congregating in what my map confirmed was the center of the town. We headed that way.

"Is that Bardock?"

"No way! He hasn't joined the tournament for years, he isn't joining now!"

"I guess… Wait, isn't that white-haired kid-"

'Bardock sure is well known, isn't he…' Zaria's voice swam into my head, and I accepted it. Now that I was used to it, it didn't feel nearly as intrusive.

'He was a top captain in the Great War. Everyone respects him,' I replied, before looking back over my shoulder at Zaria, who followed not far from me.

'I see…' She said, scanning the crowd just as I had been. 'Is he going to participate?'

'He said he isn't, but who knows,' I said. 'I don't think he likes fighting all that much anymore.'

I was about to reply when suddenly the thousands of people in the area began to quiet down. Searching for the reason for the change, I found it in a group of people descending from the sky slowly. By the time the group landed on an elevated wooden stage, the town was dead silent.

It didn't take long to know who the group was. The red hair was a dead giveaway.

Let's do this.

So sorry for the super late chapter! I didn't even realize that so many days went by. I also had to change some things, which delayed it a bit. I ended up going to England for a bit, still there. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this chapter, next chapter the tournament begins!
