Chapter 26: Omato Village Part 2

Previously:

Root rolled his eyes and turned to face the house. "So, do we get to fight now?"

"Fight?" I asked, confused. "Why?"

"Why not?" He asked, hands in his pockets. "Come on. I finally have a brother, I want to see how strong you are firsthand."

I tried, unsuccessfully, to read his sheet again, before shrugging my shoulders. After defeating, Thorn, Cauliflo, and Karo, I reached level 20, and after accepting the mission reward of 25,000 EXP, I was now level 21. I needed to test myself too.

"Why not."

The answer to that question came quickly. He kicked my ass without much contest, but the fact that I managed to land a few hits seemed to satisfy him. Once the fight was over, he watched me as my wounds healed in seconds.

"How'd you do that?" He asked.

"It's complicated and I'm not sure how to explain it," I sighed. I'm going to be getting those questions more often, aren't I?

"Hmm," Root hummed. "Well, it's pretty cool."

I nodded my head in agreement, before asking, "So, what's Mom like?"

Immediately, he rolled his eyes and said, "Annoying. She's never here, and when she is, she always has such a serious look on her face. I can't remember the last time I've even spoken to her."

Sounds like the complete opposite of Gine. I sat back against the grass and crossed my arms. "When do you think she'll be back?"

"Don't know, don't care," He said. "Why does it matter?"

"I mean, I didn't exterminate an entire planet just to come home and not to meet everyone, ya know?" I replied although I knew that it was much more than that. I wanted answers about the other DNA inside of me, questions that only she knew the answers to.

"Well, as I said, she's not much of a people's person. You'll see," The redhead said. "So what do you plan on doing until the trials continue?"

"Train, of course," I said, before flipping onto my feet. "I still have to learn how to use a sword properly, among other things."

"A sword, huh?" He seemed to think for a second, staring off into space. "Well, I'm pretty good at using my sword. I can help you out."

"Oh really? That would b-"

"If-" He paused me midsentence. "If you can do something for me."

Curious, and a little nervous, I asked, "What is it?"

With the most serious expression on his face, he said, "If you can get me candy from the stores in town every week for a year, I'll give you as many lessons as you want."

It took a moment for me to process what he said before I burst out into laughter. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms over his chest, his cheeks going rosy. "What's so funny?"

"I thought it was going to be something super hard or something!" I continued to laugh. "Candy! Why can't you do that yourself?!"

"Because the old lady at the store won't sell it to me because I beat her son in a fight!" He crossed his arms and looked away. "Whatever, laugh all you want. Do we have a deal?"

Once I managed to contain my laughter, I wiped the tears from my eyes and offered him my hand.

"Deal."

"Alright. You've all progressed to a stage that I think we can proceed to the next step."

Later that same day, Bardock brought us all to the base of the mountain, where the waterfall began and where Turles had first started my training. Kakarot was practically bouncing, despite still nursing his injuries. Raditz was also was giving Bardock his utmost attention, which made me know for sure that this was going to be good.

"I've decided that it's time that you kids advanced in your Ki training," He began. "There is much more for you to learn. You've all come far compared to what other alien life forms are capable of, but you're at the very bottom of what a Saiyan can do."

Bardock lifted his hand, palm facing to the sky, and a ball of blue Ki formed into existence. Slowly, that ball began to spin, until it was spinning so fast that the grass and trees around us started to follow its rotation. Casually, he flicked the ball up into the air, but instead of it exploding, it simply floated.

I watched in amazement as he began motioning with his hand and the ball followed his actions. As he did this, he began forming more spinning balls until there were twelve in total all floating around us. After a few seconds of staring, he brought them all back to him and they floated back into his palm, forming one massive ball of Ki.

Right when I opened my mouth to speak, he clenched his fist and the entire mountain quaked. The massive ball of Ki in his hand shrank in an instant until it was the size of his fist. Instead of being blue, the color shifted into a burning white, so bright I could hardly stand to watch it.

Finally, he turned towards the wilderness, in the direction of the Great Divide, and thrust his hand forward. Even despite the violent roar of energy, I could hear him scream through it.

"RIOT JAVELIN!"

The attack was like nothing I'd seen before. An immense beam of pure light with a pointed tip exploded out from him, devouring every tree, blade of grass, and animal in its path. The ground wasn't even spared from its wrath, Riot Javelin destroyed that too. It was similar to the combined blast I'd avoided back when I was fighting Gune's fighters, but even that looked like a toddler's attack compared to this.

When the attack subsided and the beam of light dissipated, I could only turn to Bardock and stare at him in a new light. I knew that he was strong before but… He was on an entirely different level.

"That is the result of learning to control your Ki to a masterful degree," He continued speaking as if there wasn't a gauge in the ground a few feet from us. "But first we must start with more basic control. Are you ready?"

"Yes!"

The Next Day

'I don't think I'll ever get used to that.'

Zaria's voice greeted me the moment that I stepped out of Builder Mode. She stood next to me, and together we looked at my wonderful creation. Admittingly, it was probably way bigger than it needed to be, but looking at it, I didn't regret it at all.

The limits of Builder Mode became slightly clearer with this project, too. I couldn't enter builder mode on someone else's territory until I was given permission from the territory owner, Omato, and then I was only able to build in the area the permission was granted. I wasn't allowed to touch the main house, as he'd built it himself, but the rest of the estate was free game.

My house was three stories high, with each floor having pretty high ceilings, making it the tallest building in the town. It wasn't just tall though, but pretty wide. There were quite a few random and empty rooms on each floor, but I'd figure that out another time. I made my bedroom decently big, but the training room was my main focus.

The training room was massive, big enough to spar in as long as there was no Ki being used. I left the bare ground in that area but removed the grass so that it was softer than the actual flooring. I placed it in the middle of the bottom floor, surrounded by other rooms so that no one could see inside. That was where I planned on doing my physical training and weight training.

I decided soon after realizing that Yamoshi's physical exercises worked that I was going to keep it a secret. Not from the people I trusted, of course, but definitely from everyone else. It was an advantage that would help me reach my goal. If everyone else knew about it, that would only make it harder because they'd be able to increase the strength gap. I couldn't have that.

Something that I was extremely proud of, above anything else, was the exterior. Unlike the other buildings in the village, my house was made entirely of concrete, apart from the windows. I couldn't concrete myself, yet, but I didn't need to when there was an abandoned city of concrete only an hour or so away. I wasn't sure if it was better, but I definitely preferred the look.

'Why is it so big?' Zaria asked.

'I'm not sure, to be honest. I just started and couldn't stop,' I chuckled through our mind-link. 'It didn't feel right to make it small.

Before she replied, I saw a couple of green dots approaching us on the mini-map. I turned and saw a few people coming towards us from the main house, all with wide eyes as they stared at my house.

After a quick glance over them, I realized that they were all servants. I waited for them to stop staring at the house in amazement before I floated up to them. Immediately upon seeing me, they all bowed briefly.

"Sir, it is a pleasure to meet you," One, an older Saiyan woman, said. "I am Satou, the head servant for your Father."

"No need to call me sir," I said. After all, I hadn't earned it. "You've been his servant for a long time, then."

"I remember when your father was born, sir," She said, a small smile on her face. "I was transferred to his service when your grandfather passed."

"I see," I said, although I'd already known it from her description. "Do you like my house?"

"I do," She turned to face it once again. "But how did you build it so fast? It was like I blinked and then it was there. It was... Impossibly quick."

"Not for me," I said, a sense of pride building in me.

"You're clearly a remarkable young Saiyan," She said, the awe still clear in her voice. I noticed after a few more seconds of silence that the other servants weren't talking at all.

"Why aren't you speaking?" I asked the rest, raising an eyebrow at them. They ranged in age, with the eldest being Satou and the youngest only a few years older than me. To my surprise, I recognized the youngest one.

Rue flew a step forward and bowed. "We only speak when spoken to, unless given orders not to."

"I didn't know you were one of their servants, Rue," I said, before realizing what he said. "Who made that rule?"

"Your Mother," He told me, a small frown making its way onto his face. A harsh glare from Satou made his frown disappear in a second.

"Well, you can speak when you're with me," I ordered them. "It's a little awkward having all of you just standing around in silence."

"Yes, sir," He bowed again, before flying backward.

"And please don't bow. That isn't necessary," I awkwardly rubbed the back of my head. Rue nodded his head in response, before falling back into silence.

"If I may ask, sir, who is this beautiful young lady with you?" Satou asked, her eyes landing on Zaria.

"She is my… Friend," I said, stumbling on the word for a second.

"I see," Satou smiled, turning to Zaria and bowing. "Nice to meet you too."

"My name is Zaria," She replied from beside me, her voice expressing no emotion.

"You can all explore inside if you want," I told them before the quiet could have a chance to set in. Their eyes lit up at that and they began to float down to the entrance.

'So what do you have planned until the second trial?' Zaria asked, reconnecting the link.

'Train some more. If I'm going to be able to win this thing, my current level isn't going to cut it,' I turned to her, Yamoshi's book forming in my hand. 'I found another way to train, and I want to show it to you.'

'Alright,' She said, before linking arms with me and floating down to the entrance. 'But after you show me around.'

'With pleasure.'

A Few Days Later

You've Levelled Up!

Due To Levelling Up Via Stats Increasing, You Will Not Be Rewarded With Attribute Points!

Huh? I skidded to a stop, glad to use the notification as a distraction from my laps around the training room. Endurance training, as Yamoshi called it. I pulled up my stat sheet to see that, yes, I had leveled up, bringing me to level 22.

So I can level up by raising my stats? I hummed to myself as I looked at my stat sheet. But it resets my experience back to zero.

Every level gave me six attribute points, and after thinking back for a moment, I realized that I'd just increased my endurance point twice today, and had increased my strength by four back in the cave. Putting two and two together, I realized that when I gain six points in either strength or endurance or both, it automatically levels me up. Interesting.

I feel like this can be exploited further. I sat down on the floor and laid back. I wonder what would happen if I work out and get five additional stats, level up normally, and then get the sixth stat? I'll have to test that out another time.

I should have realized that more stats increased your level, considering that it was happening before my eyes. Looking over at the center of the room, someone else was still deep into her workout. Zaria growled lightly to herself as she continued her pushups, before rolling onto her back and starting sit-ups.

In just a few days, she'd already leveled up from level five to level seven. Her power level had been rising the more she exercised, and though she still hadn't activated her Ki, her mana had also gone up too. While I couldn't see her stats like I could see my own, her stats were clearly rising faster than mine, considering she went up two levels.

Yamoshi actually mentioned it in his book, now that I thought about it. He said that the weaker someone was, the easier it was for them to see progress straight away. They were further away from the 'planet cap', as he called it. In one of the chapters, he went into detail about what he called the 'planet cap', which explained that each planet had a ceiling on how strong someone could get on it physically.

It didn't make much sense to me until he explained what gravity was, and how it affected the people on the planet. The stronger the gravitational pull, the stronger the race on the planet. However, that didn't mean that everyone on the planet was the same strength. It ranged still, based on various things, one of which being if you did physical training. Even when training your body, though, there was still a limit on how strong you could get on a certain planet. The closer you got to that limit, the harder it was to get there.

I wasn't sure what Planet Plants limit was, considering that Yamoshi didn't end up making it here, but I knew I likely wasn't near it. I could probably still see almost as much growth as Zaria, especially seeing as I didn't have to rest between workouts, but I had other things on my mind.

"You're getting stronger," I said, putting those thoughts to the side for now. In response, she stopped her sit-ups and stood up, sweating dripping down her body.

"Thank you," She said, aloud. "I can feel it."

"Good," I said, as I walked over to her. "Have you been working on unlocking your Ki?"

"Yes. I think I'm almost there."

"Good. Turles said it would take a while but I'm not sure how long that means, " I yawned as I stretched. "I'm going to go in town with Turles, and then I'm going to train. Want to come with us?"

She stared for a few seconds, thinking, before replying, "No. I'll keep training."

"Alright," I said, before heading to the door. "See you later."

I'm not sure when or how it happened, but Zaria had practically moved in. I didn't protest. Her company was definitely welcomed, even if she was quite a lot of the time.

Turles was waiting for me at the entrance to my house, but he wasn't alone. I silently watched for a few seconds as he chatted away with Rue, who looked more than happy to have someone to talk with.

When they caught sight of me, Rue went silent and bowed quickly. I groaned loudly, before saying, "Stop bowing to me, alright?"

"Y-Yes sir."

"And stop calling me sir."

"Yes, si-, I mean Sprout."

I sighed as I turned to my friend. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, but I was wondering if Rue could come with us," Turles suggested casually. I could see Rue's shocked expression from the corner of my eye.

"Why?" I asked, an eyebrow raised.

"Why not?" Turles shrugged his shoulders. "He seems cool, I guess. Plus, I'm sure he's bored of just wandering around your estate all the time."

"He's not always on the estate…" I stopped speaking when I saw the look on Rue's face. "Wait, you don't leave the estate?"

"Only when doing a job for the family. Your mother made a rule that no one below second class can leave the estate without permission," He said, his voice low as if someone would overhear him. "And because of the rule about speaking out of turn, there's never really an opportunity to ask. It's not like they'd say yes anyway…"

"Why's that?" I asked.

"Last time one of us asked to leave, even for just the day, your mother's exact words were 'Why would weaklings like you need anything more than what you're given? Be grateful you're even alive'..." His face fell. "I don't mean to speak badly of her, it's jus-"

"No…" I stopped him, continuing quickly once I saw his eyes widen. "I understand you. Just because you have a low power level doesn't make you less of a Saiyan. She has no right to keep you here."

Hope flashed over his face for a few seconds, before he sighed, "If I disobey her, she'll just fire me and I won't be able to survive out there for long."

Anger flared up inside of me, and I realized quickly that these weren't servants. These were slaves, no matter how Root explained it away. I doubted he even understood the difference at his age. I thought for a few seconds, everything going silent while I did.

"I…" My eyes snapped open, an idea hitting me like a heavy punch. "I have an idea. I'll have to speak to my dad about it later, though. For now, just come with us."

"But your mo-"

"She isn't even on the planet right now. If anyone has a problem with it, they can take it up with me," I walked past him in a second, heading for the exit. "You coming or not?"

The sound of flight followed us a moment later.

The town was busy as always. Only a few registered us as we wandered through, going from shop to shop. Honestly, I wasn't entirely impressed with most of what Omato town had to offer, but the grin on both Rue and Turles faces was enough to satisfy me for now. The only two shops that were of interest to me were the weapons shop and the electronics shop.

There were hundreds of different weapons in the shop, most that I'd never seen before. While none of them had any special effects, like the heat from my sword, some of them definitely looked interesting and I promised that I'd return after the tournament to make a purchase.

The electronic shop had a rather interesting look to it, but I wanted to buy a scouter, so when we passed it, I waved our group in. There wasn't a LOT of variety there, but what was there was enough. Planetary scouter, interplanetary scouters, and other little things filled the place, but I only have my eyes on one thing.

"So, what are y'all interested in buying today?"

Who I assumed to be the owner appeared from behind a counter, his eyes scanning our group and landing on Turles. I raised an eyebrow curiously, looking between the two and seeing Turles face burn a slightly brighter shade.

"Scouters," I revealed, breaking their eye contact.

"Of course," He smiled lightly. "You must be Sprout. I've heard a lot about you from my sister."

Oh? I quickly used Observe on him, and it made sense.

"You're Leeku's brother," I said, and the man, Jitsuki, nodded his head. "Is she here?"

He laughed to himself, a genuine one, before saying, "She'd rather die than be anywhere near this place. Anyway, let me help you find a scouter."

It wasn't a hard choice, seeing as I didn't plan on going off-planet anytime soon. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it wasn't anything for me. The Juggernaught had a large vault, after all. After settling for one with a green lens, I offered to buy one for Turles and Rue, but they both refused. Turles, because of his family's views, and Rue because he didn't want me to use my money on him. In the end, I bought myself a green one and Rue a red one.

It turned out that I needed to charge it once in a while, and the charger was a single, small solar panel. I'd seen plenty of them in Mossgrove, although then I didn't know what they were. Jitsuki explained that somehow, these panels stored the energy of the sun and turned it into electricity.

"So… What was that about?" I asked Turles as we walked away from the store. Absent-mindedly, I fiddled with my new scouter on the side of my head, trying to fix it the right way.

"N-Nothing," Turles grumbled as we walked quickly away from the store.

"Do you know him?" I pressed.

"I just met him once before," Turles said. "That's all."

"That was a pretty bad attempt at a lie, Turles," Rue chuckled awkwardly with a smile on his face. Turles snapped his head at Rue, who threw his hands up but couldn't stop his laughter.

"Well, whatever, it's none of your business," Turles snapped. I rolled my eyes at the interaction, my attention returning to my scouter.

After a few more seconds of fiddling with it, the lens lit up in a dark green light. I stared through it with my left eye, as a yellow dot appeared on the screen and writing with it.

"Scan Nearby Power Levels," I said aloud, and it immediately complied. The yellow dot split into dozens, maybe hundreds of pieces that floated above everyone's head. Everyone had numbers now, and it sure was interesting. There wasn't a limit on it like The Game. Looking up towards Bardock's mountain, I could even see his power level. It didn't disappoint.

14,472

"This will be useful," I decided, before deactivating it but leaving it on my head. It was surprisingly comfortable. The moment I shut it off, however, another notification popped up, but not from the scouter.

Would you like to upgrade [Observe] with a scouter?

Yes/No?

Interesting. Obviously yes. Upon confirming my choice, the scouter turned on by itself again, before shutting off. Immediately though, I could almost feel something different about myself. I narrowed my eyes and looking over at where Omato's office was, I realized that I could still see the power levels, despite the scouter being off. Which probably meant that no one's power level was too high for me to scan now. I wonder if I have all of the abilities of the scouter.

Upon trying to contact any nearby scouters and hearing absolutely nothing, I realized that it had only upgraded my ability to see power levels accurately, even despite a level gap. Very useful.

"Where to now?" Turles asked.

"I'm not sure, is there anything else that you want to see?" I asked Turles. "I have to stop by Omato's office for a minute though. I have a favor to ask him."

"No problem. We ne-"

My body moved on reflex, both of my hands blurred into motion. Fists found themselves in both of my hands, before I grabbed them, twisted, and threw two individuals to either side of me. Immediately, the other Saiyans around us jumped back, forming a circle around me, Turles, Rue, and the two people who tried to attack me.

Both guys skidded to a stop, glaring at me with such hate-filled eyes that I couldn't help but wonder what I'd done to make them so angry. It didn't take more than a second for me to recognize them though.

"What do you want?" I asked, not even putting up a fighting stance.

"To redeem ourselves!" One of them yelled. "You really thought you could just humiliate me and be over with it?!"

"You're humiliating yourself right now," I replied, raising an eyebrow at the idiot. "You both lost to me once, what makes you think you can beat me now?"

"Shut up, you white-haired bastard!"

I stared at them, unamused. I'd defeated them both during the first trial, and it hadn't even been a difficult fight. Defeating them again would give me a little bit of experience, so I guess it wouldn't hurt.

"If you really want to fight me, then come o-"

In an instant, the ground beneath them exploded violently in crimson light, and their body parts sprayed in all directions. My eyes darted around, trying to find the cause of the explosion. I hadn't seen any Ki balls being fired, and I certainly hadn't fired any.

"Weaklings, the lot of them," A grizzly voice murmured from behind me. I turned and had to crane my neck up to see the figure that now stood behind me. The much taller, older Saiyan glared down at me with a face full of sharp teeth. "Don't you think, son of Omato?"

Level 15

Izuke

Species - Saiyan

Gender - Male

Age - 45

Reputation - Disliked

Power Level - 1350

Inzuke is a veteran Saiyan, having fought the Great War from beginning to end. However, due to losing everyone that he cared about, his brain no longer is capable of feeling empathy.

He only knows you as the son of Omato, but that is enough for him to dislike you, as he dislikes Omato.

He is currently hoping that you'll attack him for killing your opponents.

So it was him, then. I continued the eye contact, my red eyes meeting his deep, emerald green. "Why did you kill them? You weren't even involved in our fight."

"Why?" He asked, his eyes unblinking and his smiling unwavering. "Do I need a reason to kill those weaker than me?"

You stole my experience points. I balled my hands into fists.

"There's no point in fighting here," Turles spoke from barely a foot away. "I saw him competing in the first trial. You can fight each other in the second."

He isn't injured at all. I realized. I wonder how he survived the first trial without getting hurt much at all? He isn't all that strong.

"That's fine with me, I wasn't planning on fighting him now anyway," Inzuke lied through a wicked grin, before slowly backing off. "I'll see you in the tournament, son of Omato. Enjoy your last few days of living."

As if nothing happened, the crowd closed in and continued their daily lives. I exhaled as I watched him disappear on my mini-map.

"Does that happen a lot?" Rue asked, his skin now visibly pale.

"First time actually," I looked back at the spot where the two bodies had simultaneously exploded. I turned to Turles. "So you said that you saw him when you were watching us in the first trial?"

"Yeah. I couldn't make out how he was doing that explosive thing, but no one could seem to get near him," He told me. "Dad says that they briefly fought together during the war."

"Well, this second trial just gets more and more exciting," I said, a tingle of excitement running through me.

It didn't take us long to get to Omato's office, which was near the center of town. I entered the building, only to find that several people were sitting in seats, waiting to go in to speak with him. Obviously, I skipped past them and headed for the door.

"Where do you think you're goi-" One of the older men began yelling, only to stop when I turned to him and narrowed my eyes. "O-Oh, sorry. I didn't realize that you were Omato's son. Go right ahead."

I shook my head, before pushing the door open and walking in. Omato was sat at his desk with several papers laid out in front of him but looked up at me when I entered the room.

"Ah, Sprout, what can I do for you?" He asked, placing the papers down.

"You make the roster for the tournament, don't you?" I assumed as I approached the desk.

"I do."

"What would it take you to do me a favor?" I asked.

"Let me know what it is, and it'll be done."

"There's someone that I want to fight," I said plainly. "But he's so weak that if I'm not matched up with him in my first few matches I might not be able to fight him at all."

"Why'd you want to fight him if he's weak?" Omato asked, a look of disappointment flashing over his face. "You're not planning on cheating your way to a victory, are you?"

"No, nothing like that," I paused as I thought back to the first trial. Defeating Cauliflo and Karo was satisfying, but not nearly enough. I needed to fight Picklu. "I don't just want to fight him. I want to humiliate him. I want him to beg for his life and watch as he realizes that he has no chance against me."

A shimmer of light reflected in Omato's eyes, and he smirked in response.

"Consider it done," He said. "What's the lucky guy's name?"

"Picklu. He's the brother of your apprentice," I told him.

"Oh?" The shimmer of light only brightened as the smirk only widened. "That'll be an interesting tournament indeed. Is that all you need?"

"Actually, there is one more thing..."

"Y-You brought me from your parents?"

Rue's voice was wavering, and his hands shook as he held a piece of paper in his hand. I stood with my hands in my pants at his side, looking over his shoulder and reading it along with him. It was a receipt; proof that I purchased the servant Rue from Omato.

I didn't agree with the Saiyan servants that's seemed to be far too common in this place. However, I did recognize that if he stopped being our servant, he wouldn't survive much at all outside of the estate. It would be an inevitability that he would just become someone else's servant.

"Don't think that I'm actually going to use you like a servant," I assured him. "This is just so that you don't have to listen to any of those stupid rules. Just because you have a lower power level than most doesn't mean that you should be treated like trash."

He stood wide eyes in front of me, before dropping to his knees and bowing his head. "T-Thank you so much! Thank you!"

"Just one rule, though," I sighed, causing him to look up at me. "You're free now. Don't bow to anyone again."

"Yes sir!"

"And stop calling me sir!"

Hello all! There won't be an update until likely the 14th, as I'm going out of state without my laptop! I hope you enjoyed this chapter, a slightly longer one than the last. Next chapter, the second trial begins!
