Chapter 33: Invasion
Darkness.
All around me, void stretched out in every direction, consuming me completely. I could not feel my body, yet I could think. And I wasn't alone.
I couldn't see them, but I could feel their presence all around me. I waited and waited until a figure slowly approached from behind me. They wore a robe that blended into the darkness around it, which made their pale blue skin shine like the sun. Even brighter was the massive, beautiful halo that floated behind their head. Intricate designs were etched through the halo, in a language that I couldn't understand.
'Who are you?' I managed to ask, somehow. 'Where am I?"
"Who I am is not your concern, for now," His voice boomed, vibrating me to my core. When he spoke, it was as if thousands of voices were speaking through him. 'As to why you are here, it is because I have willed it."
I tried to recall what happened before now, but everything was fuzzy. 'Was there... A bomb?'
"Yes, but it is far too early for you to die," The figure said. "The Gods will not tolerate me saving your life. This cannot happen again."
'I died?' I questioned him, confused.
"Almost. Without my intervention, you would be nothing but a corpse," He continued to pace around me. "The next time you die, there will be no avoiding the Hell that awaits you."
Staring at him in disbelief, I tried to use Observe on him, but nothing happened. I tried again, only for the figure to chuckle and turn to me. "Your abilities do not work in against me. I created them, after all."
'You created my powers?' I asked, which only made things more confusing.
"You didn't truly believe that you got abilities this powerful from genetics, did you?" He asked sarcastically. "No. Powers such as these are only gifted by the Gods."
'So my powers are from the Gods... You're a God too,' I realized finally. 'Who are you? Yamoshi?'
The blue God laughed again. "Yamoshi was a mortal who ascended into the realm of the Gods. I was born a God. I helped form this very universe, and I will be there to form the next."
This wasn't making any sense to me. Eventually, I asked, 'Why me? Why choose me?'
The God stopped pacing and turned to me. His eyes were hidden away by black shades, but I could feel his stare just the same. "You were special before I even touched you. You are the bridge that will..."
He paused as if thinking, before crossing his arms. "Perhaps I've said too much already. Now, I think it's about time you return to your plane of existence."
'Wait! No! I have more questions!' I tried to struggle, but without a body, the action was mute. 'What am I the bridge for? What am I meant to do with these powers!?'
"When you wake, this will feel like a dream. Be patient, child. All will be revealed in time,' He spoke, and in an instant, he was in front of me. His finger stretched towards me, but the closer he got, the more his figure distorted. He was no longer just a humanoid. No. He was something far more ancient. His body filled the entirety of the void and as he got closer, the only thing I felt was terror.
"Build your strength. You will need it."
His finger touched my forehead and I fell.

My eyes snapped open suddenly and I shot up into a sitting position. I gasped desperately for air, only for whatever I was breathing in to immediately burn my throat. The smell was familiar, yet something that I hadn't expected to smell on this planet. It smells like hundreds of bodies burning alive.
Throwing my elbow over my nose, I shakily stood up and tried to look around, only to be met with a blanket of dust and smoke. My eyes burned too, but I forced myself to keep them open. I moved slowly away from where I woke up, only to bump into something on the ground.
Is that… A body? I stared down at the corpse. It was completely burned, their skin charcoal black and cracked like clay. I stared at the body, numb until my eyes fell onto a small, silver chain hanging around its neck. That's Satou. Omato's head servant.
"We've found one."
A robotic voice came from the dust around me, and as I stared out into the darkness, several figures fell into place around me. It took a second, but I recognized their shiny, metallic armor as Tuffle. The memory of the woman being shot in the head at the entrance of Mossgrove city flashed through my mind, and I immediately allowed the Ki inside of me to burst to life. I was rewarded for this with excruciating, mind-numbing pain all over my body. Pain so intense that my knees gave way and all I could do was stare forward, clinging to my consciousness.
"Aim and fire."
The metal on their body morphed into guns, but just before they could fire, the dust around us dispersed. The group turned to my left and began firing. I stopped channeling my Ki and my strength returned to me, but all I could do was gasp for air.
"SHIT! IT'S THE BUTCHER! KILL HIM! ARGH!"
The first of the Tuffle soldiers were cut down by a red blur. The other soldiers turned their attention to the figure shrouded in darkness, firing their weapons, but it was too late. His left hand, wielding a shield, slammed into the ground in front of him, blocking the hail of fire, before he pushed forward, and drove it into the Tuffle in front of him. By the sound of cracking bones, it was clear that he hadn't survived.
Before I could even process what happened next, two more Tuffle dropped to the ground, their detached heads slowly rolling towards me a second after they landed. The last remaining Tuffle stared at the man who'd just wiped out his entire team, shaking and quivering like a leaf. He began to raise his arm to fire, but the moment he moved a muscle, the arm was detached, along with his head.
I rubbed my eyes to remove the blurriness, and the mop of red hair revealed my savior to me. Before I could process anything further, I was in his arms and we were moving at startling speeds.
"What's happening?!" I finally managed to yell.
"War," Omato said simply, the tone of his voice flat and cold as if he'd expected this to happen. Maybe he did. The notification just before the blinding light came to mind, and like a jolt of electricity, the realization of the situation hit me harder than any punch. My heart pounded in my chest as I frantically looked behind me.
"W-Where's- Where's…" My brain couldn't even comprehend the list of people that could have gotten blown away in whatever the fuck had decimated the entire area. Turles, Kakarot, Zaria, Root, Rue… I opened my mouth to speak, only to begin coughing due to the smoke invading my lungs.
"Try not to speak until we're out of the smoke," Omato said as we accelerate even faster. "The reason you couldn't use your Ki was because of the smoke that they put into the air. It forcibly sucks the Ki out of your body when you're using it, causing you excruciating pain."
I turned to look up at him, only to see that he had a completely blank expression on his face. "T-Then how…"
"I'm used to it."
Suddenly, we burst upward and out of the smoke, landing softly on the ground. I turned, only to realize that we were at the edge of a crater that went on for as far as the eye could see. The entirety of the hole was filled with the Ki-attacking gas, and above it, dozens of ships hovered.
They came in all shapes and sizes, but they were all larger than the ship that had taken me to my purge planet. Above them all was a ship so enormous that it could have easily been double Omato Village in both length and width. Tuffles fell out of the ships in groups, while some of the smaller ships fired continuously into the crater, causing explosion after explosion.
The sound of coughing turned my attention to Omato's other side. Having clearly just been let down, Root was kneeled over coughing and throwing up. Half of the skin on his face was charred and burnt, and when he turned to look up at me, his face was contorted in pain. Anger rose in my body and my fist clenched so tightly that my bones creaked.
"Take your brother and get back to the village as fast as you can," Omato ordered me, but I was far too angry for that.
"But… Look what they've done," I said, my voice low and furious. "I'm staying until every last one of them is dead at my feet."
"No, you're not," He said firmly, and as if out of nowhere, all of the anger and hatred I had buried towards him roared to the surface.
"Don't fucking tell me what to do! You didn't care about me when I got back, don't act like you do now!" I yelled up at him. "Just fuck off and get out of my way!"
"Listen…" He took a step towards me, his scarlet eyes darkening as he did. "I noticed the change in you the night of the initiation, and while unfortunate, it was naïve of me to think that you'd forgive us for what we put you through. I understand your anger towards me, hell, maybe it's warranted. But this isn't about me."
He lifted Root and shoved him into my waiting arms with enough force to almost knock me over, "This is about making sure that your brother lives. If we both go back in there, he'll be killed in minutes, and no matter how strong you believe yourself to be, you will die too. I will not allow any of my children to die today."
"Bu-"
"I WILL NOT ALLOW ANY OF MY CHILDREN TO DIE TODAY!" He shouted, stunning me into silence. He composed himself a second later, standing up to his full height and turning back to face the crater. "I understand your emotions too well. You've lost two, maybe three friends today? I've lost hundreds. But falling into our anger is exactly what the Tuffles want. Control it. Are you really willing to leave Root here to die?"
The silence spoke for me, as my grip on my little brother tightened. "What about you? What are you going to do?"
"As the leader of this village, I have a responsibility to my people," He said as he put both of his hands to his side. Simultaneously, a shield and scythe made entirely of crimson Ki, formed in his grip. "Now, go. I'll be back as soon as I can."
I hesitated, before nodding my head and blasting off towards the direction of the village. When I turned back, he was already gone.
After a few minutes, I could finally see it, but as I approached, the sound of loud humming came from behind me. When I looked over my shoulder, I saw a sleek, purple ship with two massive turrets on it, gaining on me. The guns started to spin, and I immediately dove to the side, just in time to avoid a spray of sharp, metal objects from tearing me apart. To call them bullets would be inaccurate. They looked more like giant slabs of sharpened metal.
Shit. I continued to fly in unpredictable patterns, causing their projectiles to miss. However, because of that, they continued to gain on me. Alright, fuck this!
After avoiding one spray of projectiles, I turned to face the ship and rushed at it. It tried to retreat slightly, but I landed right on top of it and stared down at the operator, who looked up at me with a resolute stare. With Root on my shoulder, I lifted my free arm and slammed it into the ship, only for an invisible barrier to stop me from actually damaging it.
The pilot smirked at me triumphantly, before the ship began to spin rapidly in a barrel roll. I growled but refused to let the sudden movement throw me off. Instead, I lifted my arm again and took a deep breath. My Ki solidified around my arm, just like Root taught me, and as I threw my fist down again, I activated [Meteor Fist] for good measure.
The shield buckled and twisted, before collapsing completely. My fist slid right through the metal of the ship, and in one swift motion, I tore the entire top off. The now panicking pilot already had a weapon aimed at me, but it was too late. Without their armor, they were powerless against me. I tore him out of his seat and threw him out of the vehicle, leaving him to fall to his death.
The ship crash-landed and I took the opportunity to complete my escape.
I had no other problems getting to the village, and to my pleasant surprise, the Tuffles hadn't arrived yet. Even still, all around me was pure chaos. People were running around in a panic, some flying to the hospital holding bodies, while others were raiding their houses and flying off. I landed at the mouth of the hospital, and people were rushing around like ants.
"Bring all of the injured into the hospital!" Someone yelled from the roof. "Orders from Chief Omato is to stay in the village until he returns!"
"Finally, the time has come for us to destroy the Tuffles!" Another man yelled not too far away. A large crowd stood in front of him, cheering and roaring as he spoke. "We will avenge our dead loved ones and we will do it now!"
My eyes flickered around until I spotted someone that I recognized and immediately flew over to them. "Leeku?!"
Leeku turned to face me with wide eyes. She looked completely disheveled, her hair wild and her eyes manic. "You're alive?!"
"Where's everyone else?!" I asked her, but her eyes fell.
"I don't know. The explosion knocked me out and the first thing I remember is Omato saving me and telling me to run," She frowned. "If they're alive, they're either still in the crater or they're in the hospital."
Panic blossomed in me before I paused and I almost slapped myself. Looking up into the sky, I summoned the map, and the skies of smoke that bled from the battlefield not far away bent to form shapes and colors. Thousands of yellow dots surrounded me, and my eyes scanned with immense speed to find a few green ones.
And I did.
Relief filled me, but I couldn't rest just yet. Turning back to face Leeku, I said, "I'm going to find the rest and get my brother some help. What are you doing?"
She looked conflicted as she looked up at the person on the top of the hospital, and the crowd of chanting Saiyans that seemed to grow by the second. "I don't know yet. I want to fight but Chief Omato wants us to wait for his orders."
"Personally, I can't give you much advice," I said, as I looked down at Root, who was barely clinging to consciousness. "If I didn't have this guy to take care of, I would still be out there. But, as your friend… Don't do something stupid and die on me."
She stared at me silently for a few seconds, a small blush showing behind the mud-caked on her face. Eventually, she nodded her head and turned away. "Alright. But you better not die either."
"Deal."
A few seconds later, I was pushing through the crowd into the hospital. Once I got in, I rushed around aimlessly, looking for the nearest free doctor, or room, until I was stopped by a woman with blood soaking her from head to toe.
"You are-" Her eyes widened when she saw Root and I. "The children of the Chief!"
"He's hurt, he needs your help!" I said as I handed her to the woman. I used Observe on her, determining that she was safe and capable. "Will you help him?"
"I…" She looked down at his injuries with wide, concerned eyes. "I'll try my best."
I watched as she ran off with Root, but once she was out of sight, I burst into running down the opposing hall. I skidded to a pause, throwing a door open to see the contents of the room. Three people lay, with one unconscious.
"Sprout?" Rue asked, turning to face me, clearly happy to see me. He didn't seem nearly as injured as I'd expected. "You're alive?"
"How did you survive the explosion?" I asked, stepping into the room and looking around. My heart pounded in my chest when I didn't find who I expected.
"Turles and I protected Raditz, Rue, and your girlfriend," Another voice said from a bed next to Rue. When I turned, I saw Jitsuki lying on his side. The clothes on his back were burned off and the skin beneath was raw and pink. He must have used himself as a shield.
"Thank you," I turned to him, and walked over to him. "But where are they?"
"Well, Raditz is over there," He winced in pain as he tried to stand up. He pointed to the last person in the room, an unconscious Raditz. "But Turles realized something and flew off without saying what it was. Your girlfriend followed."
I formed my map quickly and found two green dots speeding off towards Bardock's house. My mind raced as I thought of why they were going up there, and that was when I realized that I hadn't seen Gine or Kakarot in the crowd that morning. I rushed to the nearest window and looked out towards the mountain, just in time to see several small Tuffle ships descending from the sky surrounding it.
Shit.
