Chapter 34: Trapped
Previously in The Saiyan Gamer:
"How did you survive the explosion?" I asked, stepping into the room and looking around. My heart pounded in my chest when I didn't find who I expected.
"Turles and I protected Raditz, Rue, and your girlfriend," Another voice said from a bed next to Rue. When I turned, I saw Jitsuki lying on his side. The clothes on his back were burned off and the skin beneath was raw and pink. He must have used himself as a shield.
"Thank you," I turned to him, and walked over to him. "But where are they?"
"Well, Raditz is over there," He winced in pain as he tried to stand up. He pointed to the last person in the room, an unconscious Raditz. "But Turles realized something and flew off without saying what it was. Your girlfriend followed."
I formed my map quickly and found two green dots speeding off towards Bardock's house. My mind raced as I thought of why they were going up there, and that was when I realized that I hadn't seen Gine or Kakarot in the crowd that morning. I rushed to the nearest window and looked out towards the mountain, just in time to see several small Tuffle ships descending from the sky surrounding it.
Shit.
"Shit!"
Turles flew through the trees and up the mountain towards his home. Far above him, ominous ships descended at the top of the mountain, with motives unclear. The pain across his back was painful, but nothing compared to the pounding in his chest.
The moment that Turles realized the Tuffles were invading and his mom and Kakarot was alone, pure panic gripped him. Gine wasn't strong by any means, and Kakarot could only do so much while injured. The more he thought about it, the faster he flew.
"They're already there!" Zaria shouted at Turles; the young woman riding on his back. She had yet to unlock her Ki, but didn't hesitate to follow him when they both remembered about Gine. "I'll teleport us there! Get ready!"
The distressed teen didn't hesitate, slowing down slightly. A second later, the world warped and they were back in the house. Turles looked around frantically, just in time to see his Mom standing with a Ki ball pointed at him.
"Mom! It's me!" Turles shouted in alarm, stepping toward her. Gine's wide eyes fell as she ran to her eldest and threw her arms around him.
"Oh thank Yamoshi!" She whispered, her voice quivering as she spoke. "What was that explosion? What's going on?"
"Everyone's saying that it's a Tuffle attack," He told her, causing her eyes to widen once more. "We need to get back to the village."
"A Tuffle attack?" Gine repeated in disbelief. "It's started already? Now?"
"Mom, we need to go!" Turles grabbed a hold of her, but she tore her grip away.
"I need to try to contact your father," She said as she rushed off further into the house. Turles followed, in time to peer into a room and see Zaria shaking Kakarot awake.
"We can do that back at the village! Turles insisted as he followed her. "Mom, pleas-"
An explosion rocked the small house, as a wall was blown from the outside in. Turles, using his superior speed, ran at his mother, picked her up, and then returned to the room with Kakarot and Zaria. Not bothering to lock the door, Turles dropped his mother and put his finger to his lips.
"Make a clean sweep of the house. We can't allow The Great Healer to live through the day."
The voice was metallic, and immediately, Gine's face fell. Under her breath, she whispered, "It really is a Tuffle invasion... Oh no, Bardock was right."
"Right about what?" Turles furrowed his eyebrows at his mom.
"Your dad had a vision about the future. So we..." Her eyes widened as hope filled her. "We have ships waiting inside the waterfall!"
"My scouter is picking up activity in that room over there!" One of the voices shouted, and immediately, Turles moved.
Bursting through the door, Turles slammed the person on the other end into the wall opposing them, sending him flying out of the side of his house. Snapping his head to the side, Turles met eyes with another, who quickly raised their arm in response. Turles flew up and through the roof, dodging a hail of bullet fire, before coming down in front of the man and grabbing him by the throat.
The metal around the man's throat morphed immediately, latching onto Turles in a painful grip. In response, Turles threw the man across the room into two other Tuffles who were standing just to the side of them. The sound of movement came from his left, and he quickly threw his arm up and generated a Ki ball. The opposing Tuffle's metallic shoulder had morphed into a gun, and they both stared each other down.
"Put down your gun and I promise I'll let you live," Turles said, only for the opposition to scoff.
"As if I'd fall for that," The Tuffle tightened his fist, but before the gun could fire, Zaria rushed out of the room toward the soldier. Startled, he turned, but the moment that he did, Kakarot burst out from the wall behind him, punching him with enough force to send him barreling out of the now completely destroyed house.
"Are you okay?" Gine asked as she poked her head out from behind the door. "Kakarot, you shouldn't be moving too much!"
"I'll... Be fine..." Kakarot said through pained breaths. The injuries from his fight with Sprout were in the process of healing, but it was still far from done.
"Let's go," Turles grabbed a hold of Zaria and his mom and they were on the move. They didn't get far into the forest surrounding their house, before they heard the people that they'd just dealt with shouting into their comms that they'd escaped.
"I hit them hard enough that they should have been knocked out!" Turles cursed as they ran through the trees.
"Tuffle armor is made of special metal that is really good at negating physical energy. You have to hit them extremely hard to do any sort of damage beyond blowing them away," Gine explained. They reached the edge of the mountain and immediately began flying down.
Behind them, Tuffle soldiers followed, the metal on their back separating to reveal jet packs. Bullets rained down from above at the group of four, but a second later, they disappeared into the trees below. Immediately upon entering the forest, they made a dramatic turn, now heading in the opposite direction to the waterfall.
"Zaria, you know where the waterfall is right?" Turles asked, turning to the magic user with uncertainty in his eyes. She nodded her head and immediately teached out to touch them all. A moment later, they appeared at the lake, with the waterfall in front of them and no one in pursuit.
Gine wasted no time guiding them inside, through the water, revealing a hidden cave. In the center, four spade pods waited, similar to the ones that other Saiyans used to purge with.
"Oh god, we can't just leave!" Gine blubbered out, freezing to the spot. "Where's Raditz?! I can't leave him!"
"It's okay, I'll go back for him!" Turles said as he approached the nearest pod and opened it. "You need to get into one of these pods and wait for us to come back."
She looked hesitant, but quickly walked over to her two boys and hugged them tight. "Be right back, alright?"
"We promise," Turles said, containing his frown. The moment she stepped into the pod and it closed behind her, Turles pressed a button on the side of it, and it began to lift into the air. Immediately, her eyes widened in alarm and she began knocking on the glass.
"TURLES! OPEN THIS DOOR! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"
He openly frowned as he stared at her through the glass. "You're going first. There's no way that I'd leave you here alone with enemies all over. Don't worry, we'll follow you to whatever planet dad put in once I find Raditz."
Her eyes were crazed as she knocked on the door, but it was too late. At the time, Turles had thought that his Dad had brought these pods to sell. They'd worked on them together, so Turles knew all of the controls and secrets.
The sound of water splashing caused them all to turn their attention back to the entrance of the waterfall. In less then a second, both brothers had Ki balls ready to fire and out of Zaria's hands, a mist of red energy oozed. Fortunately, the soaking wet figure immediately threw his hands up in surrender.
The figure in front of them looked quite strange. While his skin and body looked generally clean and unscathed, his clothes spoke another tale. Rags that were once clothes struggled to stay on him. They were charcoal black, likely burned completely by the bomb. How he survived, being the closest to the bomb, they had no idea, but Turles wasn't about to complain.
"Sprout?" Turles asked, feelings of both confusion, shock, relief flooding him. "Oh thank goodness that you're alive! We thought the explosion took you out!"
"I'm glad you're all alive too," Sprout approached them quickly, his eyes flickering between the group, lingering on Zaria for a second longer then the rest. "But we don't have time to talk. The Tuffles are coming and they're coming fast."
"They know we're here?" Kakarot asked.
"They have scouters," Sprout reminded them, to their horror. "From what I've seen, there are two ships, and about twenty Tuffles. They'll be here any minute now."
"Shit!" Turles cursed, throwing his hands up to his head. "The ships need at least ten minutes before they can launch! Fuck!"
"Wait, what are those ships for anyway?" Sprout asked, his eyes finally falling down to Gine, trapped and still struggling. "Why's Gine trapped?"
"Somehow, Dad knew that this might happen and prepared ships for us to escape on," Turles explained quickly. "But I'm sending Mom early because Raditz is still in the city and it's too dangerous for her here. We can't leave him."
Sprout nodded his head in understanding, before approaching the group. "We need a plan."
Turles tried to think, but his mind was left empty. All he could think about was Raditz, where his Dad was, and if they'd make it out of the situation alive. Speaking of his Dad, Turles turned to Sprout, "Can you try to contact my Dad?"
Sprout's eyes widened in alarm. "He isn't here?"
"He got an urgent message this morni-" Turles felt sick to his stomach. The sudden, strange departure finally made sense. They'd purposefully lured him away. "It doesn't matter, just check!"
In one blink, a scouter was latched onto Sprout's head, but after a moment more of waiting, he shook his head. "It's not working. It won't let me send any messages at all."
"Shit..." Turles cursed again. "Alright, well, do we have any ideas?"
The group was dumbfound for a few seconds, completely lost for words. Outside of the waterfall, they could hear voices begin to form.
"I have an idea... But it's risky," Sprout said, getting their attention again. "Here's how it'll work."
Sprout POV
This was not at all how I thought that I'd be celebrating the end of the second trial.
"Come out with your hands above your heads!"
According to the mini-map, the Tuffle soldiers were lined up in two lines on each side of the river with the two ships hovering above it, pointing towards the entrance. I looked back at Turles and Kakarot, who nodded their heads at me.
Kakarot gritted his teeth, obviously still in pain, but we needed him if this was going to work. It was better to be in pain then to be dead.
"Let's do this."
I walked forward and placed my hand on the waterfall that stood between us and them. I inhaled deeply, before releasing an outward burst of Ki, causing the waterfall and the river that it fell into to erupted into steam. Wasting no time, all three of us shot forward into the fog.
With their vision subdued, it would be harder to see us. I doubted that it would stop them for long, but we only need a second or two to cause some real damage.
I flew directly at the closest ship, my right arm already aglow with dark orange Ki. My attack, like before, smashed straight through the invisible barrier surrounding the ship. I pulled the roof off of the vehicle, which turned out to be larger than the one I'd destroyed before, and came face to face with a Tuffle. Unlike before, this one had armor on.
Good. I've got some anger to let out! I roared as I charged at him. To his credit, the Tuffle charged back at me, not at all deterred by my approach.
We met in the middle, but instead of punching him, I tackled him to the ground and got on top of him. The ship rattled violently, before falling from the sky in a dive. I didn't let that bother me, pushing on the offensive by raising my super powered fist and slamming it into his armored face. He struggled against me, managing to push me off of him before I could get a second hit in.
His got up quickly, right arm lengthening into a sword as he glared at me. Despite his confidence though, I knew that my attack did more damage then it appeared. That became apparent when he stumbled at me and tried to slash me. I dodged underneath the attack, before uppercutting him hard enough to send him flying out of the opening in the ship.
I wasn't going to let him get away that easily, though. I flew out of the opening behind him, catching him. Behind me, the ship hit the bank of the river and exploded. Immediately gun fire was flying in my direction, but I used the soldier unconscious body as a shield under I flew into the forest. Once behind the cover of trees, I threw the body to the side.
The sound of their second ship exploding turned their attention away from me, and I used that opportunity to duck from behind the trees and charge at the group of closest to me. While the right side continued to fire at Turles and Kakarot, the left turned to me in a fluid motion, bullets flying a second after I left my cover.
Throwing my hands forward, I shot two Ki balls at the ground in front of me, causing an explosion to send both chunks of ground and dust into the air. Simultaneously, I activated Lightweight and jumped to the left, circling around until I was at their back.
My hand slipped around the mouth of the first one I came across, and I activated Meteor Fist alongside my concentrated punch. My fist punched right through the armor and his body, coating my arm in blood. I pulled out my fist and threw the corpse at the second closest with enough force to hopefully knock him out. The others turned to me just as a Ki ball formed in both of my hands and my mouth.
"KINGS SPEAR!"
The attack washed over all seven of them, blowing away the ground at their feet and lighting up the entire area in orange light. When the attack faded, I flew straight up, narrowly missing several bullets.
These Tuffles are tough. I grimaced as I looked down at my leg, which was bleeding from two bullet wounds. They're easy enough to kill when you can get close, but it's the getting close that's the problem. And that metal is something else...
The seven Tuffles that I'd hit with my Kings Spear were still alive, their armor just scorched slightly. That armor not only could turn a normal, weak Tuffle into a second class warrior, but it also moved like liquid and could shoot out projectiles that cut through Ki like butter. It was as if the metal ignored Ki entirely. This plan had better work.
Turles and Kakarot seemed to be doing better than me, but considering that there were two of them, it only made sense. They'd taken out five of their ten, before retreating into the sky.
The plan was a simple one. Destroy the ships first, and then kill as many as you can in a surprise attack. The reason that the two brothers had to go together was because I wasn't sure if they could destroy the invisible shield of the ships on their own strength. I used a combination of Meteor Fist and wrapping extra Ki around my arm, which gave me a boost that I hadn't calculated yet. Thankfully, they'd succeeded, but the plan wasn't over yet.
The soldiers continued to reign fire on us, until suddenly they stopped. I grinned as dozens of green dots appeared on my mini-map, speeding through the forest towards the fight. The Tuffles looked confused, before suddenly meta-wolves came out of the forest and began to swarm them.
Luna led the charge, blue fire trailing at either side of her mouth. She took down the first Tuffle who she came across, dragging him off into the forest before he had time to process what had happened. Several of the rest were caught off guard and taken down to the ground, where they were held down as numerous meta-wolves tried to chew on their bodies through the armor.
'Thank you for finding her, Zaria,' I thought, knowing that she was listening in. 'Now, let's end this fight.'
I dropped to the ground behind one of the distracted Tuffles, and before he could react, my fist had smashed his throat. The Tuffles who hadn't been taken to the ground had to choose between me and the wolves, and in the time that it took them to decide, I was already in their guard.
It took me less than 10 seconds before all of the Tuffles on my side of the river were dead and being feasted on by my wolf allies. I looked over to Turles on the other end, to see that he had defeated his group too. They hadn't killed them, obviously, so the wolves were enjoying trying to chew their unconscious bodies.
Luna stalked out of the woods, her metal coat now covered in blood. She approached me and her pride separated so that she could have a clear path.
"So the Tuffles are attacking the Saiyan race once again," Luna acknowledged. "Honestly, I thought that the Saiyans would make the first move."
"You'd think so," I said as I kneeled down and stroked her fur. "Thanks for the assist."
'Your plan worked,' Zaria spoke from somewhere. I looked around for her, only to finally spot her at the entrance of the hidden cave. The water was gone now, evaporated by my attack. She must have teleported back to Gine after asking for Luna's help. She didn't look nearly as tired or in pain as she used to, which I chalked up to her training.
'It did. Is Gine alright?' I asked, and as if to answer my question, Gine ran out of the entrance and she scanned the corpses on the floor, a profound look of sadness in her eyes.
"I can't believe that actually worked," Turles said as he flew over to his Mom and picked her up before she could protest. Kakarot was close behind.
"Yeah…" I groaned as I walked over to Zaria and lifted her up into my arms. "Let's get back."
Suddenly, falling out of the sky like a rocket, someone slammed into the ground behind us. I snapped my head around, only to find Brussel standing over a body with a broadsword buried in their back. Their face was contorted in pain, revealing that he'd somehow survived our assault.
"Always make sure your opponent is killed," She said. It was unlike her to be serious at all, but she looked extremely so now. Her entire body was covered in blood, staining whatever she had on crimson. "I was sent to find you. We need to get back before the walls close."
"Before the walls what?"
POV Change
"Sir, everything is going according to plan."
Blerry turned to face one of his soldiers, while simultaneously shaking his weapon free of blood. The crater formed by the Son of Destruction was truly massive, yet even despite it's size, all around him, countless bodies lined the hole in the ground and the area surrounding it. Even as they watched, Saiyans that tried to escape were being shot down.
The smoke had cleared a little while ago, and while it would have been toxic without their nano-armor, it wasn't a problem with it on. He wasn't sure how many they'd managed to kill in their initial sneak attack, but there were definitely more than a thousand bodies. Unfortunately, those were likely the weaker of the Saiyans. The stronger ones managed to survive and most of them escaped. Some tried to fight, but they were quickly met with entire squadrons of soldiers.
"Good. Now collect the bodies," Blerry put a finger up to his ear and pressed a button on his armor, broadcasting his voice to all of the soldiers. "Bring the bodies of our allies to the morgue ships and put the Saiyan bodies where we discussed. I'm not sure how long until we see results, but until then, surround the city and prepare to invade."
"Yes sir!" The shoulder nodded his head, before leaving his presence.
"Reports say that the teams sent to kill the Healer haven't returned," Blerry clicked another button, linking directly to his sister. "What happened?"
"She wasn't as alone as we thought," She sighed back. Immediately, he was sent a video of a battle between a group of soldiers and the group that they'd met in Mossgrove. "The good news is, the white-haired Saiyan survived the bomb and our assault. Bad news, he is much stronger than we thought."
"No shit. A third class Saiyan wouldn't have been able to take out one of our ships, let alone three soldiers," Blerry shook his head as he examined the footage. "But it won't be an issue."
"I trust in you, but how exactly do you plan on locating and capturing him?" Bloom asked curiously.
His eyes skimmed through the footage, and he smirked slightly, before saying. "Well, I have an idea or two."
