Debt Unpaid
Kakarot quickly begins to call Raditz again with the console but when that doesn't work, he gets out one of his Scouters but even that fails. No matter how many times Kakarot calls he gets no response from Raditz. Kakarot can't shake this horrible feeling but before he can freak out, he stops himself. He says to himself, "No, calm down Kakarot. If my brother was here, he'd tell me to not panic and instead analyze the situation." Kakarot takes a couple deep breaths and says to himself, "It's not like there are any worrying power levels on the planet. They shouldn't even be able to destroy his pod, I just have ta' wait for a response. I'm sure my brother will try n' contact me again after he handles whatever has his attention now."
Kakarot successfully calms himself down before going to bed, confident that his brother will contact him soon. However, after three days Kakarot begins to worry, "If he was ambushed, he shoulda' contacted me by now. There's no way a planet of level fives and tens could have gotten him." Kakarot ponders a few possible reasons without thinking of the worst-case scenario. Kakarot thinks up possible communication trouble like his Scouter getting damaged but knows he should have extra Scouters inside.
Kakarot wonders if his remote controller has malfunctioned, maybe damaged during the scuffle but knows that if Raditz really needs it in the pod he could just pry it open. There's little risk of it getting loose, such a problem was fixed several years ago. Kakarot remembers a scary tale of a Freeza Soldier who forced their pod open to leave a planet due to a malfunctioning remote. After he left the atmosphere, he hit an asteroid. Normally the Pod would have shattered the space rock but due to weakening the mechanisms keeping the pod closed.
The door was knocked loose, and the unfortunate soldier was sucked out into the vacuum of space. Kakarot shuddered at the thought but knew better than to worry about a malfunction that has long since been fixed. Not getting anywhere with this line of thought Kakarot speculated on what if the Pod was destroyed. Kakarot doubts it but given the fact the pod being out of commission is the only way Raditz doesn't have access to his extra Scouters Kakarot has no choice but to consider it. With this in mind Kakarot decides to plan what he can do to find out the status of Raditz's pod. Kakarot knows that bringing this to Freeza or his squad's attention could backfire. Vegeta and Nappa don't care and if Vegeta doesn't like what he hears then he's gonna keep an even closer eye on Kakarot than before.
Freeza on the other hand won't like Kakarot trying to have anything to do with Raditz, he'll probably view it as Kakarot trying to help him which could negatively impact Raditz's mission. Kakarot knows that the last thing Raditz needs right now is Freeza adding more conditions to his mission. Due to these factors Kakarot can't risk getting this information with the help of Vegeta or under the watchful eye of Freeza. Kakarot knows the only way to gain information on the status of Freeza Empire Space Pods is through a communication tower.
These towers are built on every one of Freeza's conquered worlds; communication stations serve the same purpose but are installed into space stations. These facilities allow for outside communication and are also used to track and verify the locations and conditions of Freeza's spacecraft. This includes the solo Space Pods as well as Freeza's bigger ships. As expected, this planet has a tower that is pointed high into the air with a large circular room with open walkways. Access to them is possible from the outside which is important since everyone in Freeza's employ can fly, this allows them quick access to the important areas without limiting travel between these areas via elevators or stairs. This is something Kakarot plans to take advantage of. Kakarot has decided he will access the tower in secret.
The control room is on the highest floor, in a circular room with a walkway leading to a lower facility. The facility is occupied by Freeza regular staff rather than soldiers, because they don't expect combat; they aren't equipped with Scouters. Kakarot set his plan in motion, first off he created a weak Ki ball but using his superb ability for controlling his Ki. He had gained through many battles on countless worlds. Kakarot used this to maneuver it into a lower, less populated sector. A floor below the control room, Kakarot was careful with the output of this Ki ball. He didn't want to accidentally take out the Communication Center or alert the whole facility but if he put too little power in it it couldn't serve as a good enough decoy.
Luckily Kakarot's experience allowed him to find the perfect inbetween and activated it creating a frightening explosion which shook the upper floor. This was enough to cause everyone in the Communication Center to fly or walk downstairs. They didn't want to risk this explosion destabilizing the upper floor so they left no one in the Communication Center, diverting all their attention to the floor below viewing that as a priority. Kakarot avoided the flying soldiers outside and directly entered the Communication Center which was now empty. Kakarot quickly accessed one of the consoles but soon realized it was the wrong one.
He lightly bit his lip out of frustration before going to another and finding that this one was in charge of monitoring Freeza's ships. Communication Towers only have access to ships that have landed on the landing pad on the planet they were built on and ships that have left for missions from said planet. Luckily Raditz's pod was counted among these, something Kakarot expected but was worried might have been excluded due to his mission being a punishment. Kakarot quickly tracked the pod only for the screen to say in big red letters surrounded by a red box outline, "Signal Lost".
Kakarot stared at the letters with his jaw agape. He didn't expect this could be the case after all the signals it tracks are tracking devices installed in the deepest part of the pod. These devices emit a signal detectable to Communication Towers or Stations. It also regularly runs a self diagnostic on the ship it's installed into. Because of this it can detect any damages to the ship as well as any attempts to remove the device. The only time such a device can be removed without alerting a Communication Facility is before it's sent on a mission. It's only activated if the ship needs repairs or after it's been launched. In other words either Raditz tried to remove it or the pod was indeed destroyed.
Kakarot disliked both possibilities but didn't find the sabotage option to be likely. If he did then word would have reached Freeza which could have caused a number of scenarios which would have no doubt reached his Saiyan allies' ears. With the information memorized along with the exact coordinates for this "Earth" Kakarot quickly deactivates the console and leaves the room just before the soldiers return from investigating the diversion he caused. Kakarot returns to his room afterwards so he can figure out what to do with the information he just received. Kakarot lays on his bed, eyes to his ceiling and begins to register all the information he acquired.
He compiles it all and hypothesizes Raditz's current situation. Raditz must have been ambushed which somehow led to both his Scouter being damaged and somehow his Pod. Kakarot decides he needs to reevaluate the battle strength of Earth's warriors. There's no way a single or even double-digit power level to destroy a Space Pod. Kakarot now must consider the possibility that the "humans" there could have the ability to hide or shield their Ki. This is a rare ability that Kakarot has only heard about, he found it strange that such a remote and weak world could have such individuals. Kakarot wonders if this is how it remained under the radar.
This information makes Earth all the more dangerous for Raditz. Who knows how many formidable warriors reside on the planet and who knows how strong they could really be. Kakarot now thinks it's possible that one of these hidden warriors could be strong enough to destroy a Space Pod. Truthfully this made Kakarot excited but he soon overrode that feeling with the worry for his brother. Even Raditz's regular tactics could be taxed by such mystery warriors and who knows if they have any other techniques up their sleeve. What's more Raditz hadn't been acting all that cowardly ever since he fought Jade.
Kakarot didn't like thinking about it but what if Raditz not acting like a coward could get him killed. Kakarot disliked considering that acting cowardly could be a good thing but at this point he would rather see his brother alive and cowardly rather than honorable and dead. Normally he would have the safety net of his allies but since this was a solo mission no one could be there to save him if he got into trouble. Kakarot shakes the thought away believing that just because he can't communicate with him doesn't necessarily mean his brother is dead. However, having looked at the whole situation Kakarot begins to doubt his brother's ability to defend himself. Kakarot also begins to feel anxious; he had things he wanted to say to his brother but now that might not be possible.
There are too many unknowns and Freeza has put him on a strict timetable. If he can't fulfill his mission then he's as good as dead and without a pod or way to communicate Kakarot doesn't know how Freeza will react to the time limit being reached. Will he presume Raditz's death, leaving him stranded on Earth? Will Freeza even send people to grab Raditz to check? None of these details were given to him or his Saiyan allies. Kakarot doesn't even know if Raditz has this information.
No matter how Kakarot looks at this situation from mystery fighters with power levels high enough to destroy their pods to Freeza's lack of communication Kakarot can't see Raditz getting out of this alive. Kakarot grows angry, he balls his hands into fists and sits up looking the opposite direction to his bed. Kakarot says while looking at his clenched fists, "I finally reached Nappa, I got all this strength, this power and yet…" Kakarot grips his knees and says in a slightly raised voice, "Yet I can't do a damn thing for 'em!" After a moment of silence Kakarot's gaze drifts to the console on the wall. He gets up and walks over to it and pulls up a digital map of the base. Kakarot rests both of his hands on the console's sides while staring at the ground. Kakarot suddenly says to himself, "He may be a killer, a coward and the weakest among my people or what's left of 'em but…"
Kakarot then looked intently at the digital map and said with conviction in his voice, "But he's been through hell and back for me, like hell am I going to stand around and do nothen' when I haven't even found out why he did what he did." Kakarot made his decision and said with solid determination in his voice, "Freeza can go to hell, a Saiyan who does nothing when his kin needs 'em isn't worthy of being called a Saiyan." With his decision made and his conviction hardened Kakarot begins to plan his next move regardless of whether or not Freeza or even Vegeta will approve.
Kakarot decided regardless of what the reality of the situation was or who was against the idea he needed to get down to Earth sooner rather than later. He knew the likes of Vegeta wouldn't help him, in fact he would probably rat him out to Freeza the second he told him. So now his former Saiyan comrades were now obstacles he would need to work around. Kakarot decided he would work on a plan while doing his regular routine in order to keep Vegeta off his back. Throughout the next day Kakarot plans his escape, Kakarot figures he won't be able to leave the planet without alerting Freeza. Even if he was able to deactivate the tracking device in the pod, the communications tower would detect it.
Regardless, Kakarot doesn't have this level of technological know-how to do that. Even if he did, Vegeta would eventually notice he's missing and tell Freeza in order to avoid being listed as his accomplice. From there they could easily guess he was heading for earth and Kakarot needed to have time to figure out the situation on earth. In other words, escaping successfully without making noise will be next to impossible and so during the whole week Kakarot begins examining and memorizing every detail about the base.
He identifies the main structure of the base, a power station which powers all the buildings and equipment in and around the base and he already knows how important the Communication tower is. Kakarot is also sure to memorize where soldiers come and go throughout the base as well as sneaking a copy of the flight schedule from the Communication Tower. Kakarot, now knowing what buildings are important, what the best time to commit his plan is and has come up with a unique way to delay them from finding him after they discover he's missing. With everything set up and every detail planned out Kakarot enacts his plan now. It's the middle of the night and Vegeta and Nappa have gone to bed followed by Kakarot. However Kakarot sneaks out undetected like he did the previous nights during his planning period.
The first step is securing transportation, sneaking one or two pods would be difficult however Kakarot's plan actually involved multiple. The base had a small ship storage facility. It was little more than a warehouse where they store extra Space Pods. Security has been lax due to the fact the facility had never been raided before. The base in general wasn't often visited regardless, they are deep in Freeza's territory, so threats of attack are extremely low. However, their lax behavior would be to Kakarot's advantage as he killed every guard in the warehouse using his blinding speed.
Kakarot dashed from guard to guard snapping necks and punching holes in them and before he knew it every single guard was dead. They were all in the low two hundred to three hundred range, so it was an easy fight and since this facility was on the far side of the landing pad no one detected the loss of power levels. With the guards taken care of, Kakarot collected up to fifteen Space Pods and laid them in the outskirts of the base just slightly east of the warehouse. With the hard part taken care of Kakarot simply said to himself, "Alright with that all that's left is the fun part." Kakarot concentrated his Ki until he created multiple purple Ki balls which sparked with electricity.
Kakarot made up to thirty of them and while straining himself he lifted them high into the air, much higher than the tallest buildings in the base. So high the soldiers below couldn't detect them with their Scouters. Kakarot had developed this technique just for this occasion, using the excuse of training to hide what he was really planning to use them for. Kakarot had often done this in the past so this was very normal behavior for him. This specific technique was derived from the one he used to kill all of the Prune soldiers Nappa was torturing on Prune, but it was much stronger than that technique.
However, the amount of Ki expended, and Ki control required made it a tiring technique. Kakarot figured it wouldn't be a problem since it would take three months to get to Earth, he wouldn't be using his Ki until then anyway. Now that they were all in position Kakarot began his strategy. It was the dead of night; most were asleep but there were a few soldiers taking nightly shifts in order to protect from potential night raids. Although it was pointless since again, they were deep in Freeza's territory. This was when the sky suddenly lit up with countless purple lights. Before they knew it purple Ki Waves rained from the sky hitting everything in sight.
The power station was destroyed by three blasts blanketing the base in darkness aside from the purple blasts lighting up the base in explosions. Next the Communication Center took a direct hit destroying it, three more Ki waves hit the lower section of the Communication Tower breaking it in half. The detached upper half fell onto the base below, landing on the restaurant in the base as well as part of the hotel. Vegeta dashed out of the building with Nappa following. This is when Vegeta saw a glimpse of something flying up into the sky. Before he could figure out what it was, it was gone. Vegeta immediately realized something and asked, "Where's Kakarot?"
Nappa with a confused look on his face, "I don't see him." With no time to focus on that though, Vegeta and Nappa began to dodge the incoming blasts while deflecting those that shot close to them. After a solid five minutes of raining Ki Waves the reverse fireworks stopped. By this time the base was covered in flames blanketing the night sky in smoke and ash. Meanwhile Kakarot was now flying through space using a Space Pod. Kakarot watched as all the Pods he grabbed split from him as well as an extra pod that stayed with his pod. Kakarot's plan went off without a hitch and he soon deactivated his Scouter while setting an alarm in his pod.
His plan went as follows, Kakarot would secure transportation while making sure to grab multiple pods, the more the better. He then utilized a specialized technique he made for precise yet destructive strikes to damage key facilities in the base. He aimed for the Power Station and the Communication Tower. Without power he could cut off internal communications causing chaos alongside his barrage. Without the Communication Tower they would have a difficult time contacting Freeza or help but they also wouldn't be able to track the pods until they got it working again.
Kakarot made extra sure to split the tower ensuring it wouldn't be fixed anytime soon. The reason for the multiple pods was to confuse them once they actually got the tower fixed. Of course, this would only be temporary, Vegeta no doubt would get to the bottom of this and assist Freeza in deducing his true location. Additionally, Kakarot acquired the remotes for the pods in the warehouse itself. There he transferred the codes to the other remotes into his so he could control them all at once with a single remote. Regardless this was a success and now Kakarot could take a nice long nap until he reached Earth. He closed his eyes and drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep as his pod rocketed toward the Planet Earth.
