Loud harrowing screams rang out through the Red Keep. It was halfway through the day when the sky suddenly started to darken above, and something quite interesting was in the air. The last rays of sunlight vanished for a moment, darkness fell over the land. Then, in a bizarre moment the Sun and Moon aligned together in harmony creating a beautiful display in the sky. The moment was made even more magical as the sky transformed into a shade of pink, casting an exquisite glow on everything.
Inside a chamber at Maego's Holdfast, Elia Martell, the dowager wife of Prince Rhaegar, was bringing the newest member of the Royal family into the world, Oberyn, her brother was standing by her side holding her hand as she let out another piercing scream as another wave of contraction set in, sending her uterine muscles in a mad rush of attempts to push out the child within.
"GAAAAAAHHH!! It hurts, it hurts!", came her cries.
Time went by fast, King Aerys II was sitting on the iron throne anxiously waiting to receive word. By his side, Jaime Lannister, a boy of nineteen stood, his blond hair radiant as the sunlight on most days. He donned his usual uniform of pure, white armour, a smile on his face. He quite liked the princess, respected her far more than he could his haughty sister.
It was almost midnight, when a midwife walked in the throne room informing the arrival of a new Princess. But, what was more shocking was Lord Varys, Master of spies who strolled in after her looking stunned.
" What is it now, Erunch?" Aerys asked.
" Your Grace, A yin yang eclipse is taking place. The Sun and Moon have aligned together in perfect harmony. The sky is pink. " Varys said, pointing at the window behind him where the Eclipse finally landed.
Aerys stood up from his seat and made his way towards the window, his eyes gazing up at the alluring pink sky. The King's mind started to fill with thoughts wondering what this event could be specifically about. The Yin Yang Eclipse was phenomenon he thought only existed in Yiddish legends. Who in Westeros would have thought that it was so real?
The young Lannister Knight who was standing by the Iron Throne too couldn't help but turn his gaze to the sight wondering if this was a message or a sign from the Gods themselves.
" And the Princess is well." Jaime asked.
" Yes, Princess Elia is recovering at the moment, but will be fine." The midwife answered.
" And the babe? Is she well?" Aerys questioned.
" Healthy and Strong, your grace." Varys answered.
A small smile formed on the Mad King's face much to everyone's surprise. Aerys wasn't known to show emotions considering how miserable and evil he was all the time. This was the first time in forever, the King had expressed his emotions.
" Good, I shall see the child with my own eyes." Aerys said, turning around walking out of the throne room with his young Lion knight trailing closely behind him.
Elia grabbed her youngest daughter's tiny hands tenderly. She gazed down at the beautiful creation she had made with so much love shining brightly in her warm brown eyes. She had never imagined in her wildest dreams she would be able to have another child. After her tough labor with Aegon, Grand Maester Prycelle had told her she would not be able to have more children seeing as her body was too weak.
But, the Gods have proved him wrong for here she was holding her newborn daughter in her arms. If only Rhaegar was alive to see their newest creation.
" She's beautiful, sister." Oberyn said, gazing down at his youngest niece with love.
" Yes, she is." Elia smiled.
" An odd quiet baby." Oberyn mumbled.
Elia nodded. " She is very curious. She's done nothing but looking around at her surroundings the minute she was brought into the world.
" Sister, I don't want to alarm you, but I've gotten word that Robert Baratheon is riding for the capital as we speak." Oberyn whispered.
" Yes, I know." Elia mumbled.
The young Viper gazed at his sister deeply. " Elia, I believe this is the time to make an escape. You and the Children are not safe here anymore, when Robert invades King's Landing he will not spare you or the Children's lives. We can sail to Dorne tonight unnoticed, Captain Anthor has offered us a spot on his ship.
" We'll get caught, Oberyn." Elia said. Aerys has spies everywhere.
" Then, we'll fight our way out." The young viper declared.
She shook her head. " And, we will die." I can't lose you Oberyn.
Oberyn signed. " It's better taking a risk than waiting to be slaughtered. We are Martells, we don't show fear.
" Yes, but we are also wise." Elia commented.
Oberyn turned to his sister. " War is coming to our doorsteps, sister and I for one don't want to see you, Rhaenys, Aegon or this little one get caught in the crossfire.
"We won't." Elia said. I have a plan set in place in case things go deadly. I have gathered some outside support to help; they will step in when the time is right."
Who is this person helping you, and can they be trusted? Oberyn inquired.
" It's better if you don't know at the moment." She replied. But, yes they are trustworthy and loyal always have been.
The young Viper nodded wanting to question his sister more on the manner, but trusted her enough not to. " Let's just hope they remain that way." He said.
Elia turned her attention back on her daughter who was gazing back at her warmly, light lilac eyes stared back at her reflection. She coo softly at her daughter running a hand through her silver gold curly streaks of hair. She began to notice her daughter's eyes had a unique magical touch to them that she couldn't quite explain. It was as if her daughter was some fairy of some sort.
" Have you thought of a name yet for this little one, sister." The young Viper asked.
" Yes, her name shall be..." Elia was about to say, but was interrupted when the doors to her chambers opened with a bang and her father in law popped into the room alongside Ser Jaime and Lord Varys.
" I hear I have another granddaughter that is healthy and well." Aerys said.
" Born during a Yin Yang eclipse no less." Lord Varys said, proudly. No Targaryen has ever been born during a eclipse such as this.
" Your Grace." Oberyn greeted, with a bow.
" Prince Oberyn." Aerys greeted briefly, before turning his attention back to the little bundle in his daughter in law's arms.
" May, I hold her." He asked.
" Of course, your Grace." Elia said, nervously handing the small babe in his arms.
Aerys gazed down at his granddaughter deeply, pulling the head cloth from her head to see her hair color. And much to his surprise, the small babe had the shiniest silver gold curly hair. No one had seen this shade of hair coloring since the late beautiful Shiera Seastar. But, what shocked him the most was her eye color, light lilac eyes stared back at his reflection.
An eye color like that only belonged to a magical being. It reminded him of one of the Valyrian Goddesses, Vyshena, Goddess of Magic. It was said that Vyshena's eyes held a magical yet a chaotic touch to them. The small babe's unquie magical eyes reflect off the same divine powerful Goddess herself, a sign that this young Princess was destined for greatness.
" She is a true Valyrian." Aerys said, with pride. She will be a great beauty one day.
" Have you thought of a name yet, your Grace for the new Princess." Jaime asked.
" Not at the moment." Elia said.
" What about Helaena?" Aerys suggested.
Oberyn shook his head. " That name has been used far too many times, your Grace.
" Then, Arcana." The King said. Or how about Rhaenyra, Meelanyra, Rhaella, Aerea, Aemma...
As the list of names went on for a while a name popped up in the young Lion's head. " How about Aithyria, your Grace."
" Aithyria, that's a beautiful name." Oberyn said.
" How did you come up with a name like that, Ser Jaime." Elia asked.
" I didn't, your Grace." The young lion answered. My Uncle Gerion once read me and my younger brother Tryion a Valyrian folktale of a young beautiful dragon named Aithyria with the purest eyes I just thought would suit the Princess.
" That is not a proper name for a Targaryen, young Lion." Aerys scoffed.
However, Elia and Oberyn couldn't help but disagree with the King's words. A smile broke out onto her face as she started to replay the name in her head loving the way it sounded off her tongue.
The small babe let out a happy squeal gazing up at her mother warmly.
" The Princess seems to like it." Jaime smiled.
" That is a terrible name." Aerys hissed. No granddaughter of mine will be called such filth as that.
" No offense, your Grace." Oberyn said. My sister has endured a long labor and pain to bring forth this little one. I believe it's only right that she gets the right to name her own child.
" I suppose you are right." Aerys grumbled, passing his granddaughter back to her mother.
" Aithyria, it is then." Elia smiled at her youngest daughter.
" The Princess will have many suitors begging for her hand." The young Lion said.
" Viserys and Aithyria will wed" Aerys announced. No lord shall ever be good enough for my granddaughter and what better way to continue the family line with a marriage.
" Your Grace, Prince Viserys is a boy of 9." Varys said.
Princess Aithyria is just a baby.
" It doesn't not matter." Aerys said. The girl will grow one day and soon bleed.
" Why, you..." Oberyn was about to say, but Elia stopped him, preventing him from saying something stupid.
" What a wonderful event that will be, your Grace." Elia said, in a sarcastic tone. If you don't mind, may I have the room to myself I am in desperate need to change out of these clothes and into something fresh.
" Yes, I shall leave you now." Aerys agreed. Tomorrow, a feast will be held in honor of the birth of my newest granddaughter.
" Your Grace, a war is approaching our doorsteps in a few days time." Varys said. I don't believe it is the appropriate time for a celebration.
" Nonsense, my granddaughter's birth is a special occasion that should be celebrated!" Aerys exclaimed. It is not everyday a Targaryen is born during a Yin Yang eclipse.
" Yes, you're Grace, it is a spectacular moment that should not be forgotten. Varys said, agreeing with the King not wanting to piss him off.
" Send the invitations out, Varys." Aerys instructed. I want this to be the most unforgettable feast that this kingdom has ever seen.
With that, Aerys left the room followed by his Knight and Varys leaving Elia and Oberyn behind. Once he was gone, Oberyn let out a snarky response at the King's behavior.
" Does he not realize an army is coming to his doorstep?" Oberyn said. How in the seven hells does he think this is the perfect time to celebrate.
" I don't know, Oberyn." Elia said. At least, he's not in a vicious mood.
" It will only be a matter of time before he goes back to his vicious crazy ways, Elia." The young viper warned.
" I know." The young Princess nodded. I have a plan in place. Not all is lost.
As hard as she tries to hold onto Hope in truth she was frightened of what was to come in the next few days. War was coming to King's Landing and she didn't have the power to stop if.
All she could do is pray her plan would work out in the end until then she would hold onto her happiness she had left which was her children.
Elia gazed down at her youngest daughter who was now fast asleep in her arms. She sensed there was a great future ahead of her. Her little Dragoness was destined for greatness and she would protect with all her might.
What the Princess didn't know is her daughter was in no need for protection, for the young Dragoness could protect herself just fine for she wasn't just some ordinary baby. She was a Dragon, but not just any ordinary dragon a magical one at that.
Sunburns were special types of breed for they were made of the sun and magic ran strongly through their veins, they were masters of magic, and Aithyria Targaryen would be the powerfulest of them all.
