I'm not even going to try to fit this into the canon timeline. Enjoy!

"Well, that could've gone better," Blake sighs, watching the falling snow from inside the mouth of the cave that they've taken shelter in. It's starting to snow more heavily, of course, and the sky is an ominous shade of gray. So much for that blizzard not hitting until they got back. "What a mess."

"It could've been worse," Ruby points out, always the optimist. "At least we took care of those Grimm before we got stranded. People won't have to deal with that on top of all this snow."

"And we hopefully won't be stranded here for long," Penny chimes in. "I've contacted the others and they should be on their way in no time! Plus, the snow is so beautiful. And we should be safe here while we wait."

"Yeah, if we're not completely frozen by then," Blake grumbles. Having grown up in Menagerie, she's not a fan of the cold.

"It is a bit chilly," Ruby admits, rubbing her arms and shivering a little bit. "I can't wait to get back and drink like a gallon of hot chocolate."

"I'm going to take a long bath and use up all the hot water," Blake announces, her cat ears flattening against her head in irritation.

"Well, I can't help you with that and I don't have any hot chocolate," Penny says. "But I might be able to help you guys warm up."

Both of them perk up at that. "What do you mean, Penny?"

Penny closes her eyes for a few seconds as if she's concentrating hard on something. After a moment, there's a soft humming sound and she opens her eyes. "I can shift some of my system's output and direct it towards creating extra heat. Hopefully that can help keep both of you warm until our friends arrive."

"Really? That's so cool!" Ruby exclaims, huddling closer to Penny. "And oh wow, you weren't kidding, Penny! You're so warm! Blake, you gotta come check this out. Penny, you're amazing!"

"Thank you, Ruby." Blake once again finds herself envious of Penny's inability to blush as she scoots closer to her and Ruby. Ruby is basically cuddled up in Penny's lap, and once she's close enough, Blake can understand why. It's like sitting next to a radiator on full blast. Blake just wants to melt into the heat.

"Thank you, Penny," she says quietly, leaning into the warmth. "You're a lifesaver."

"Of course!" Penny smiles at her. "I'm happy to help.

At first, Blake tries to keep some dignity, and settles for sitting shoulder to shoulder with Penny, casually soaking in the heat. But it's so chilly outside their little bubble, she soon finds herself pressing closer and closer until she's curled up against Penny's side.

Penny, of course, doesn't mind at all. She wraps an arm around Blake's shoulders and pulls her ever closer. Ruby sighs in contentment, leaning back to rest her head against both their shoulders. And that's how Yang and Weiss find them a few hours later, cuddled up for warmth.

"Do you lovebirds need a few more minutes before we go home?"
