Oh boy! This chapter might be a bit tense at the start. Personally, I don't really like Courtney for reasons.. but I will say that doesn't mean I intend for her to be a big villain in the story. I mean she does at times have a bit of a mature side, especially in the start of TDI. But I wanted the breakup between her and Duncan to be a bit more realistic in a way. Also I'll be moving to Rarotonga on next Tuesday, so I might be quite busy. But I'll try and update when I can :)

At the Plane

Third Person POV

It had been a while since they last heard from Chef, Chris and even Gwen. All the contestants couldn't help, but be very curious and some were more worried. Team Amazon were quiet, they felt helpless that they couldn't do anything to stop her, stop Gwen from that bear. But there was nothing they could do than just watch it all happen in slow motion and hearing the screams and slashes of ripping flesh. Sierra was worried for Cody, as he stared at the floor indulging his sadness. Even Heather felt uncharacteristically nervous for her teammate, despite them being frenemies and rivals in real life and the show, Heather couldn't help, but feel concerned for her rival wondering how on earth she survived it..for now. As for Courtney, she found herself worried for Duncan more, than Gwen. It didn't mean she cared, she just always thought that Gwen wasn't that important in her life, yet her boyfriend thought the complete opposite. She knew for a fact that Gwen would be FINE right?...

Later

Courtney went over to go and see her boyfriend in the elimination room, but what she didn't expect was to see a very tired, slightly pale looking Duncan, whose eyes were red from possibly crying...and sporting eye bags on his face. Normally, she would've comforted him somewhat, but knowing that he is crying over another girl, and not her annoyed her quite a bit. So, she went over to confront him and have a talk with him. As soon as Duncan looked up at her, he knew for a fact she was ready to have a right go at him, whereas he would've done the same thing to her. The pair started to bicker, which in turn, became quite heated so much that their veins were popping out from their heads. No, it wasn't one of those heated arguments turned into makeout session, no it was a lot more personal. Until someone took it too far...

"Well maybe she would've been better off dead instead of saving you!" Courtney blurted out angrily, then she covered her mouth in disbelief of what she just said. Her jealousy brought out even more than she bargained for..

As soon as Duncan heard it, he gave her a look. Not just any look, the look that had turned into a big, aggressive snarl and his pupils shrinking, his hands clutched against his palm to the point of slight bleeding. Not only did this somewhat intimidate Courtney, but she started to open her eyes to how much he loved Gwen and not her.. So, she told him one thing that would forever stay in his mind.

"If she makes you more happy, than I ever could. Then you have my blessing Duncan. I'm sorry for how I mistreated you." Courtney mumbled, as she walked past him. It was over, all over.. Duncan stood there frozen in disbelief, and looked at his scratched hands. He knew for a fact that him and Courtney wouldn't last, but to hear her actually admit it was something else.. he knew he had to tell Gwen about this, when she wakes up or if she does..

In the Hospital Room

Gwen's POV

Ugh.. why is someone shining a flashlight on my face? Ow! Get that away from my eye McLean! Wait.. Chris..Chef? I slowly leaned up and felt a big amount of pain on my left arm and hand. What had happened?.. All I remember is... then it all came back to me. Duncan and the bear fighting. Duncan nearly dying. Me watching the whole thing. Then seeing visions of Dad and red, and then shielding Duncan using myself as a chew toy for that bear. Damn... I slowly swung my legs forward to the side of the bed trying to get off, until Chris held me down.

"Nah, ah ah ah Gwen. Since you are awake now, we need to have an actual talk and I'm not just talking about me and Chef, but also your mother too." Chris instructed. I froze for a second, and then remembered that this is public national tv, of course she was going to see it. Chef passed me the phone as I gulped silently.

"H-Hello M-Mum?" I squeaked

"OMG My BABY!! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!" My Mum screamed. Well so much for me not going deaf just yet. I explained to her about what happened, turned out she wasn't home as she had to get some grass whereas my brother saw the whole thing and recorded it for Mum to see. That little snitch, I'll get him for that.. but yet again, I wouldn't be talking to Mum about this if it weren't for him, weird huh? Then I told her about how Duncan was in danger and I had to save him, from the sound of her voice, she was in the verge of tears again...crap... But she understood and said that Dad would've did the same thing for anyone he cares for, which in turn made me cry a bit. After our mother daughter crying session, we both ended the call as I was feeling hungry.

Surprisingly, Chris was there when I finished talking to Mum. Did he listen to the whole thing? Great.. he will probably tease me now about this.. but he actually didn't, instead he asked if I was alright and if I wanted to stay in the competition still? Honestly, I was quite surprised by his concern, but the fact he gave me a choice to stay or not? It was clear that I still wanted to try, even though I'm injured, I still want to help my team and help Duncan out. I know the others will think otherwise and that I'm being crazy for agreeing to stay in the competition despite my condition. I nodded to Chris and then he came back with a cookie for me. I'm still unsure why he was being friendly to me, maybe he does have a bit of a heart? My thoughts were interrupted, when I heard a knock and it was my team mates.

They noticed my arm and cringed, then Sierra had the idea of creating a arm sling for me which surprised me and slightly concerned me, but it's better than lifting a heavy cast during challenges. Turns out, not only did I need stitches, but I had a broken bone after the bear pierced it and due to the concrete impact. I noticed that Courtney wasn't here and asked where she was, the others replied that she was in the bathroom confessional. I will admit that I may be a loner, but it was actually kinda nice.. that my friends came in to see me. Then, Owen, Tyler, and Alejandro came to visit as well, Owen pretty much wanted the cookie, to which I smirked and rolled my eyes in acceptance and sacrificed the cookie for him. Tyler commented on how he used to have quite a few broken bones himself back in high school, to which I wasn't surprised about and as for Alejandro. He gently took my left hand and observed the long running scar that stops just on the elbow joint, and offered his "condolences" to me. Then, he gave my hand a quick kiss, right...was that supposed to be... in other words.. "Oh I'm sorry about your injury, please have an alliance with me or I will vote you off".

Later at Night

Third Person POV

Gwen was on her bed writing in her diary, she's lucky that she didn't break both hands as she is ambidextrous. Then, Courtney came in with her hands behind her back. Which Gwen found to be suspicious, but it turned out that Courtney came in to help place Gwen's arm sling, along with a fresh new cast. Gwen appreciated the help and noticed that the cast was printed with names of each contestant, including Heather and Alejandro's, then she spotted Duncan's one with a drawn skull. Gwen thanked Courtney for it, and then noticed Courtney was a bit twitchy. She didn't want to ask as she knew it could be something to do with Duncan.

After Courtney left, Gwen couldn't help, but ponder in thought. Not just about Courtney's strange behaviour, but everything.. her family, her classmates back at high school, and not so much of the competition. As she laid down on her right side, she heard the door suddenly open. There was no one there, to which Gwen shrugged and then she felt a familiar presence behind her, so she closed her eyes pretending to be asleep. She took a little glimpse in her mirror to see who it was, and it was Duncan.

At the Hospital Room

Duncan's POV

I saw Gwen fast asleep, or was she?.. I gently sat down on the chair for guests. Then, without instinct, I started combing her hair with my rough hands and slowly massaged her scalp. I then could hear quiet giggling, so I smirked continuing and slowly turned my head forward to see her little eyes poking out at me. Ha, caught you, you sneaky minx. Slowly, I back myself away to let Gwen turn around and then we had our faces quite close to each other, and our noses were touching slightly. Suddenly, I decided to try a little trick and that was to slowly rub my nose against hers lovingly, letting my nose piercing slide across the smooth surface. Then, I noticed her little pasty face turning a deep crimson red and she quickly kissed the tip of my nose by accident, which in turn made me blush as well.

Later on, we were both talking about what happened and I admitted to her saying that it was all my fault. Gwen being the stubborn one, playfully slapped my arm with her right hand. Which pretty much explained, "it's not your fault doofus." I could even feel the guilt in my heart, despite Gwen confessing it's not my fault so I place my chin on her soft hair placing a kiss on it. Both of us didn't say anything, but just had that same pure comfortable quietness like last time. I gently grabbed her left hand and kissed her palm as I stared at the ghastly flesh wound imprinted into her skin and it has been stitched up thankfully.

That's it!

Gwen is okey!! Yay!!

Will Duncan and Gwen actually get together at some point?

Will Duncan tell Gwen about the breakup between him and Courtney?

How will she react?
