Prologue

Tristan''s point of view

I enter the small diner in Queens where I'm supposed to be meeting my boyfriend of the past year, Tyler Roberts.

My eyes scan the room and I quickly spot him sitting by himself in a booth towards the back reading one of the books that he had gotten as a birthday gift from me a few months ago when he turned 16.

As I make my way across the diner towards him, Ty looks up and sees me walking towards him. He smiles before setting his book down on the table and standing up to greet me.

"Hey there, gorgeous."

After we have exchanged both a hug and kiss with one another, Ty and I sit down in the booth across from each other. He closes his book, setting it to the side before focusing all of his attention on me, making me blush slightly.

"So, what was it that you wanted to talk to me about so badly that you insisted we meet here instead of at my house or at yours?"

I look down at my hands before looking back up at my boyfriend who looks very concerned. I reach across the table and take his hand in mine, intertwining our fingers.

"Ty, I have to tell you something but I'm afraid to because there's a chance that it could possibly change how you feel about me."

My boyfriend's eyebrows furrow in confusion and he squeezes my fingers reassuringly.

"Angel, there is absolutely nothing in this world that could ever change how I feel about you. Other than my uncle Mark, my aunt Dana, my mom and my little brother, you are the only person that I have ever known that has never looked down on me for not being rich or not being a jock. You mean everything to me and absolutely nothing will ever change that."

I blush slightly again and smile at him before I continue talking.

"I'm not who you and everyone else thinks I am, Ty. I'm not really the daughter of Trent Parker. Everything I've ever thought about myself and my life has been a complete lie and if it wasn't for Trent's sister Melanie, I would probably still be living my life as Tristan Parker with no idea about who I really am."

Tyler suddenly gets up from his side of the booth just then and while still holding tightly to my hand, he manages to slide into my side of the booth and wrap his other arm around my waist, gently pulling me close to him. I rest my head on his shoulder and take a deep breath. He presses a gentle kiss to my forehead before asking me to tell him who I really am.

"According to what Melanie told me, my real name is actually Tristan Benson-Stabler. She says that my real parents are Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler and that they were once really close friends of both her and Trent. She said that when I was around one and a half, Trent kidnapped me from my parents' house outside the city because he had had a really huge crush on my mom since they were all in high school together and was extremely jealous that she had fallen in love with and married my dad instead of him."

Ty sighs before kissing my forehead again then rests his chin on the top of my head. I can't help but feel nervous at how calm my boyfriend is being about everything I have just told him.

"Would you be okay with coming with me to Manhattan so that I can look for my parents, Ty? Melanie told me where my mom was working the last time she'd seen her so I figured that we could start there."

Tyler smiles at me before assuring me that he will be more than happy to help me look for my parents. I smile and lift my head off his shoulder before leaning in and softly kissing him on the lips.

"Angel, I just wanted to tell you that even though we're just 16 and 14 years old, I want you to know that I love you with all of my heart and that I want nothing more than to be the guy that makes you happy, to take care of you and to protect you."

I smile at Tyler's extremely sweet and heartfelt admission about his feelings towards me.

He doesn't normally talk about how he is feeling to just anyone. His now absentee stepfather used to constantly tell him when he was younger that a 'real' man never tells anyone how he really feels.

Thankfully though, Tyler never listened to his former stepfather and I'm extremely grateful for that because it shows that he is nothing like his stepfather was.

"I love you too, Ty."

As my boyfriend quickly slips his book into his backpack so that he and I can head for Manhattan as soon as possible, I can't help but think about the huge secret that I'm keeping from him.

I'm so afraid to tell him about the incident that happened one night almost six months ago when I was at home alone with an extremely drunk Trent.

I don't want him to do exactly what I just know he would do if he found out what Trent did especially considering that wasn't the first time he's done what he did since then.

Since Ty already has his driver's license, he offers to drive us both into Manhattan in the dark blue Ford truck that he bought about 3 months ago with help from both his mom Caroline and his uncle Mark.

As we make our way across the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan, I can't help but wonder how I will react when I see my parents again after all this time. I really hope that they've never stopped trying to find out what had happened to me.
