Tristan's point of view
Almost 3 weeks have passed since I was reunited with my parents and twin brother Sean.
Things were pretty awkward for all of us at first especially once the terrible and painful abuse I had suffered at the hands of Trent Parker, my abductor whom I later learned had actually once been a close friend of both my parents when they were younger, came to the surface.
My brother's been dealing with a lot of stress lately what with his best friend Derek betraying him by sleeping with my brother's now ex-girlfriend Naomi right before I was reunited with him and our parents.
I have also been having a rough time the past couple of days myself what with not only transferring to the same private school as Sean in the middle of the school year but also with the horrible nightmares I keep having at night whenever I try to sleep.
School has been helping me keep my mind away from the fact that Trent Parker is still out there free somewhere instead of behind bars like he should be at the moment though so I'm grateful for the distraction.
What makes that worse at least to me is the fact that Melanie has straight up refused to tell the police where Trent is. I know that she knows where he is but what confuses the heck out of me is why she bothered telling me the truth about myself if all she was gonna do after was try and protect him from the police.
I'm currently at achool at the moment. I'm walking to my locker to drop off some of my books before heading to the cafeteria for lunch on a Tuesday when I notice my brother's bitch of an ex and her cronies harassing Mia Gordon yet again.
Mia and I have a few classes together and despite being somewhat shy, she's a really sweet person who doesn't seem to really have any friends for whatever reason. It makes my blood boil every time I see Naomi and her group of sheep mess with her.
Shutting my locker, I make my way down the hallway towards them.
"Hey, Naomi!"
Naomi, who had been spewing insults at Mia just seconds ago, turns to see me glaring at her.
"What do you want?"
"Well, first of all leave Mia alone. Second of all, I know that you're probably pissed off because my brother refuses to take your stupid ass back after you screwed him over by sleeping with his best friend. I'm not gonna let you take that out on Mia though. If you want to mess with someone, it's not gonna be her. From now on, if you mess with Mia, you're gonna have to deal with me. "
Naomi is looking at me with a shocked look on her face. I'm guessing that no one has ever really stood up to her before.
I give her a look, silently daring her to try something else.
Thankfully though, she decides against it and takes off back down the hall, her lackeys following behind her.
Once they're all out of sight, I turn to look at Mia. She has a look of gratitude on her face.
"Thanks for helping me out back there, Susan. I really appreciate it."
I smile at her and tell her that it was no problem. I also ask her if she might like to sit and eat lunch with me and my brother.
"Sure. Thanks again."
Sean is a bit surprised when Mia joins me and him at our table but he smiles politely at her. He also apologizes to her after I inform him that his bitch of an ex was harassing Mia earlier.
"Hey, Mia. Wanna come over to our house after school today? We can hang out and watch a movie or something."
Mia seems a bit hesitant to accept my invitation to hang out later but she eventually agrees.
A few hours later, Dad shows up at school to pick up me and my brother and after learning that I'd invited a friend over to hang out after school, Mia as well.
Once we made it back to our house, I led Mia upstairs to my room. She looked around it, taking in everything.
She also noticed a picture of Ty that I had hanging on a wooden cork board that my mother had gotten for me to hang pictures on.
"Who's this, Susan?"
I can't help but smile as I gaze at the picture of my sweet and amazing boyfriend.
"That would be my boyfriend. His name's Tyler but he just goes by Ty for the most part. He's a really sweet guy even if he does seem a bit scary whenever you first meet him."
Mia and I hang out for a couple of hours, mostly just talking and getting to know each other.
It turns out that she's mostly been raised by her dad and older half-brother Leo because her mom died when she was only 6 years old.
According to what Mia said, her mom had actually been a detective with the NYPD same as both of my parents and during this one pretty intense case that she had been working, some drug guy ended up putting out a hit on her. Her mom had ended up getting shot and later died at the hospital afterwards.
Her father is apparently a successful attorney in Manhattan. He's usually pretty busy working a lot so it's mostly just her and her brother at home by themselves more often than not.
Around 6 pm, Leo shows up at the house to pick Mia up. Sean and I both smile and wave to Mia in her brother's car until it's no longer in sight.
I start to head inside to help Dad with dinner when I notice that my brother is still standing on the stoop gazing in the direction that Leo's car had disappeared a few moments earlier.
"Hey, Sean. You okay?"
Sean snaps out of his trance and shoots me a smile, assuring me that he's fine. I can't help but feel though like maybe there's something that he's not sharing with me.
