Chapter 2: Moon | Damon

It was hot.

That was the first thing Damon felt when he opened his eyes that morning. But why the hell it's hot?. He looked around a little bewildered where he was: the room was small, wooden, with a table in the middle containing piles of books and chairs to sit on. In the background he could see the chimney chipping even though it had been off a long time ago. Next to the window he could see the moonlight pass.

It's still night. Great, I've revealed myself, the boy thought as he took the blankets off his back and headed to the window to run the curtains and let the breeze pass.

He looked out the window and his heart filled with calm. The sea, his sea, was in front of him bathed by the moonlight and the stars. That made him smile, it was beautiful and couldn't wait to cross it again.

Suddenly, a few steps alerted him to the presence of someone behind him and some arms surrounding him confirmed his suspicions.

"What are you doing awake?" a male voice in his ear said as he was kissed on the cheek.

Damon turned in his arms and watched him smiling. "I'm unveiled, that's it."

"I thought you were gone... again. Let's go back to bed and sleep once and for all because what a disgust you gave me" said the man grabbing Damon by the arm and taking him to the bed.

"But I was-" tried to say Damon.

"Tomorrow we have to get up early, so stop looking at the sea and go to sleep", with that last sentence the man fell asleep and Damon lay next to him but couldn't sleep. He just turned to his side and looked at his companion.

His name was Elijah and was older than him. He was tall, handsome, strong and with eyes that reminded him of heaven. He was the son of the village blacksmith and, since they first see each other 5 years ago, he knew he would end with that man, and that's how it had been. They had grown up together, trained, fucked... they had done everything together. Elijah had his loyalty until the end of his days, and if anything was Damon was loyal.

Both were involved in raids* to the villages beyond the sea and it was a wonderful thing to be able to share that with each other. But Damon had observed that his dear partner got too carried away by the battle on certain occasions... even when there was no battle. He had even asked about that sometimes and the answer had always been the same: "You don't have to strive, you already have everything done. You're a Salvatore. If I want to be someone I have to fight it". Then he gave him a kiss and Damon even forgot his name.

But he kept thinking about it.

And the thing was that being the second son of the count of the village his destiny was to be the leader of the troops and the second in command of his brother Stefan when he ascended to the throne. But Damon hated this. He hated his family.

Not that he really hated them, but he hated what it meant to being a Salvatore. The world assumed that everything was easy for him, that his life was going to be of color of pink and wonderful... what they didn't know and had never stopped to reflect is that, in reality, being a Salvatore was about making everything more difficult, completely the opposit of what they thought.

He went to bed, turned upside down again and thought of his brother Stefan and Caroline, his best friend.

They were perfect for each other and were in love since they were presented one day in a ritual to the goddess Freyja*.

But Caroline was the daughter of a simple peasant and Stefan the count's son. They always sneaked their relationship, only Damon knew it and covered for them whenever he could. It wasn't perfect but it was enough or at least seemed to be enough for them, until one day Stefan received the worst news they could give him; he had to merry another woman.

When he told Caroline she didn't even cry, she just look at him, gave him one last kiss and told him that she was never going to forget him, that all she asked him was to not forget about her either.

So Stefan was going to marry a princess from a neighboring county and Caroline to another man that she didn't love a tenth of what she loved his brother.

Damon witnessed that moment and that's why he swore to himself that he would never go through that. Never. Maybe that's why he tolerated Elijah's attitudes, maybe if he could be someone important they could be together one day... or maybe it was for something else...

He sighed thinking at that moment and thought of his brother again with a smile. They were so different that they complemented each other perfectly; while Stefan was tall, strong, brown-lighted hair with green eyes and a calm and observant personality, Damon was quite opposite: a little smaller than Stefan, black dark reven hair, blue-eyed and a whirlwind that everything he had as loyal, he had it as impulsive and stubborn too.

He turned to Elijah's opposite side and looked out the window. He couldn't see the sea but the moon and the stars were enough to calm him down. Gradually he fell asleep, uncovered and with the breeze entering through the window. Tomorrow will be a great day was his last thought as he fell asleep.

Tomorrow the gods would finally hear his words, even if it didn't look like it.

*Vocabulary (or additional information to understand some terms):

*raids: these are the incursions that the Vikings made in conquering territories. They usually attacked undefended targets. The effectiveness of these attacks, called strandh-gg (literally beach attacks) gave the Vikings a reputation for looters and pirates.

*Freyja: (Not Freya from The Originals): Freya or Freyja is the goddess of love, beauty and fertility. People normally invoked her to get happiness in love, attend childbirths and to have good seasons. However, Freyja's figure is also associated with war, death, magic, prophecy and wealth. The Vikings' Eddas mention that half of the dead in combat were received at her palace Fólkvangr while the other half went to Valhalla with Odin.

END NOTE:

I hope you liked it, now you have both sides of the main characters of this fic (more characters to come).

I don't know when I will have the next chapter translated and edited but I will upload it as soon as I have it. Next weekend at the latest for sure (always weekly updates until something heavy comes up in my life).

I really appreciate reviews so I can see if you are interested in continuing reading this or not, if no one reads it I think I'll stop posting it so let me know pls.

I'm considering a Tumblr account so we can talk about fics, tvd or other tv-shows, or whatever you want. I could also post previews and stuff about this fic or others that may come and you can ask me anything about it or whatever. I don't know. I'll let you know once I have it.

Last thing: I have some other royalty stories and other stuff that I could adapt into a Delena fic so let me know what you think about this. And I thought of doing a Delena fluffy, domestic Christmas one-shot fic too. So let me know if you would like to read it.

THANKS, LOVE. AROA.
