Already There
Ben knew that the moment he woke up that Rey had done something again. He could smell the scent of bacon and pancakes and eggs and fruit. Rey was making breakfast. She only made breakfast this early when she thought she would need to pay him back for something. Well a way to his heart was through his stomach. What Rey didn't know was that she already had Ben's heart for a long time. It wasn't her fault that she didn't know, Ben never made it obvious to her, he did everything he could to hide it.
Since he was already awake he might as well get up to eat.
But where was his shirt? He left it on the floor when he came home from classes. Was it the tidiest thing to do? No. But he was tired and he just wanted to pass out and sleep. It's his favorite shirt too, big and warm and comfy with his collage rugby team's logo on the chest. Which of course he had, he was the Captain. So where did it go?
It was on Rey. Look you can't really blame her. It was cold when she woke up and Ben's door was left open, with the sleeve of his shirt peaking into the hallway. And so sh grabbed it. It was the weekend and neither of them had classes, so it should have been fine. Furthermore it was warm and smelled like his cologne, and bit of his sweat too.
To make up for taking his shirt she would make him a big breakfast. He needed to keep his strength up for the big game next week. At which she will be forced to endure the screaming and thirsty comments of his many fangirls. How annoying.
She had thirsty comments too but she kept them to herself. Ben was her roommate after all, she couldn't tell him what she thought or did to the thoughts of him when he was away. If anyone found out about that she would die. Or move out, probably that.
"You're the shirt thief." Rey flinched too quickly at the sound Ben's voice, which got her a bit of whip cream on her cheek and the side of her mouth.
"Morning Ben. Guilty. It was just so cold this morning. It's not my fault your shirts are so comfy." That's what he thought too, which is why he liked it so much this time of year.
"Rey… you've got cream all over your face." Ben walked up to her, so focused on her parting mouth that he didn't notice her eyes roaming across his naked chest. Instead he reached over and wiped the whip cream off her cheek, not thinking twice about licking it off his finger. He had no idea that he was contributing to Rey's hunger in a different way. "There's more here too."
Rey let out a shaky breath when Ben's thumb grazed the side of her mouth. She was proud of her self-control to not turn her head and lick it.
"T-Thank you Ben." She turned around quickly to gather the plates, "I thought it would make for a nice surprise too. There's that big game next week."
"It's not that big of deal. It doesn't even count for the championship."
"Yeah but Ben, it's our rival campus! You have to beat them." Rey wasn't that much of a rugby fan but it mattered to Ben so it mattered to her. She had to support her friend and his passions.
"Than I'll win just for you." The bigger of the two roommates promises with a wink as he picked up two more plates and set them down.
"Me? Careful Ben. I have a hard enough time with your fangirls as is, I don't need you to paint a target on my back." She was joking of course, most of the time. There have been times where she was the subject of gossip because the two were roommates, and quite close, but neither of them let those rumors stand between their friendship.
"This looks good." Ben couldn't help but take a quick bite of the chocolate covered pancake. He moaned at the taste. Moaned. "Yeah, it was good."
"You…" Rey had to blink to clear her head, "You have a bit of… here." She wanted to tease him like he did but it was too late when he grabbed her wrist gently and licked the chocolate off her fingers.
"Tasty." He always did this! He always teased her and then never took it anywhere.
Rey bit her lip to stifle a very embarrassing sound from leaving her body. When she pulled away she had to go right to eating, missing his smirk at her flustered reaction.
Since she made breakfast Ben wanted to do the dishes, it was only fair that they share the chores. He was already half naked anyway so there was no worry of him getting his sleeves wet. "By the way, if you wanted to wear my shirt, you could have just asked. I would have lent it to you for a day. Or more." He would have given it right off his back if she asked for it.
"Until your game?" She teases as she handed him the dirty plates.
"Sure. If you wanted it." Ben didn't see her stepping closer, he didn't see her going for a kiss so when he turned his head he didn't know that his lips would touch hers. Or that hers were so dam soft and still tastes sweet and salty. "Rey…"
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry Ben! That was a-" No, he didn't want her to say it was a mistake. He kissed her right back, taking her off guard and tangling one of his big hands into her hair and pressed her closer, wanting to get to her own taste, licking her lips with his tongue and pulling away right as he opened her mouth, catching her upper lip. "You taste like breakfast." She responded dumbly, trying to let her brain reset from that dream-like kiss.
"Meaning I taste good. Just like you." Tension sizzled between them, ready to abandon the chores at hand in order to see where this would go. "I'll make dinner tonight."
"Like… a dinner date?" She said very hopefully.
Ben laughed while looking her up and down, "Sure. If you wear my shirt."
After a year of living together all it took for Ben to ask her on a date was for him to take his favorite shirt. She should have done it as soon as she moved in.
