Chapter 1: An Unknown Beginning

"Uhhh… Wha…where am I?"

That was all Shadow could say when he woke up. He had woken up in a strange forest area and wondered where he was. He looked around to see if anything had happened, but there were no signs of battles, no signs of injuries to himself. He looked up and saw the moon up high in the sky and all the stars flickering above. "Everything's so quiet here," Shadow said. He soon looked around again and this time he saw colors flashing nearby and decided to investigate. He soon found out what those glowing colors were, because nearby to where he woke… were all seven of the chaos emeralds. He looked around and he couldn't see anyone nearby. He thought that it would be best for him to take them due to his natural connection to the chaos emeralds. Once he collected all seven chaos emeralds, he heard a huge loud BANG! He looked around but he still didn't see anyone nearby. He knew the noise sounded like a gunshot but wondered where it was coming from. He soon headed off to figure out what was going on in this strange new world he found himself in.

After skating around in the forest, he soon stopped on a hill and saw something at the bottom of the hill. It looked like a game hunter, but not anything that Shadow had seen before. This hunter was wearing a burlap sack over his face with a brown cap on his head, a green coat, brown trousers, brown gloves, and black leather boots. The Hunter was holding a flashlight in one hand and a shotgun in the other. Shadow noticed that the Hunter appeared to be looking for something as he was shooting in a hole in the ground near a tree. Shadow didn't know what this was, but he thought he heard something in the hole whispering to another. Shadow thought that whatever that something was, it needed some time to get away and Shadow knew he was going to be the distraction.

As soon as the Hunter was making his way around to catch his targets, he heard something rush past him. He looked around, shining his light at the area around him, but he couldn't see anything. He was just about to continue his mission to hunt for the two targets when he heard something rush past him again. He quickly looked around to see what was causing this. The target let out a small grin as the hunter turned the light on him and saw what it was. This was completely new to the hunter as he thought he was seeing a hybrid of a human and an animal in front of him. The target had black fur with red stripes, a patch of white fur on his chest, a tan muzzle and tan ear canals, six quills on his head, two spines on his back, and a small tail. The hunter noticed that this creature was wearing rings attached to black cuffs and red tongues on both his wrists and ankles and was also wearing these strange looking shoes. "Who… Who are… You?" The Hunter asked. The creature responded with, "I'm Shadow. Shadow The Hedgehog." The Hunter fired on Shadow but he kept dodging the attacks with quick speed. This was going to be a challenge for the Hunter. All other targets and even his current two targets he was chasing after weren't quite as fast as this one. After this next shot from the Hunter, Shadow jumped back and let out a strange energy beam and prepared to fire on the right arm of the Hunter's flesh leaking out of its body. "CHAOS... SPEAR!" The Hunter roared in pain as his right arm fell off on impact from the beam. He prepared a revengeful fire on the Shadow... but he was gone! He looked around and saw a rusty old hook on the ground. Quickly, he stuck the hook in his right shoulder and continued on the hunt. He had just walked a few steps when he saw the two targets climbing up a building. As he continued his mission to catch the two, he was on full alert in case this new mysterious lifeform would be back and ready for round 2.

Shadow continued following the Hunter to make sure that the Hunter didn't get the targets he was after. As he was sneaking around the trees, he still heard the Hunter shooting his weapon at the two targets. As the Hunter continued looking for the targets, Shadow thought he saw the targets swimming in the swampy waters nearby but they were too far away to get a good glimpse. Shadow had decided to fire another chaos spear and start round 2 with the Hunter. Once Shadow fired another spear near the Hunter, the game hunter prepared to fire and get revenge on the Ultimate Lifeform. "Don't be a fool! I'm too powerful!" Shadow shouted. The Hunter was a little bit good with shooting with his new appendage, but not as good as he once was. It was clear that Shadow had done some major damage to the Hunter's arm and hunting skills. As he fired on Shadow, he dodged it and teleported near the Hunter for hand to hand combat. As he did this, He knocked the gun away from the Hunter, teleported away from the Hunter, and came back around for a spin dash. Once he gave the Hunter his spin dash, he teleported away to try and see what the Hunter would do next. The Hunter, still shaken up, slowly got up from this new form of attack and grabbed his gun and was about to look for Shadow when he heard a crow fly away from something. He soon saw the two targets, continued his pursuit of the targets, and tried getting into the abandoned shed that they were in. Shadow was just about to start round 3 with another chaos spear when he heard a gunshot… and the Hunter fell to the ground dead.

Shadow quickly wondered who fired the gun and as he looked at the other side of the shed, he soon found out who got the Hunter and who the targets were… They were two kids. One of them was a boy who was wearing a light brown paper bag on his head, a buttoned trench, a brownish-grey shirt and pants. The other was a girl wearing a button-up, stained, gray cardigan that reached to her knees. They had a small fire going so it looked like they were taking a break from all the running. Suddenly large glitched remains of a man appeared from a hanging TV caught in vines from one of the trees. The figure soon stood up and was slowly making his way to the two kids. They tried putting out the fire with dirt and then they heard something teleport from a distance… and then teleported between them and the glitched man. Shadow knew that there was only one way to try and get rid of the glitch… and that was with a huge beam attack. As he began dodging the glitches blast attacks, the two kids quickly hid behind the side of the shed. With a huge energy beam, Shadow quickly destroyed the glitch and the TV. Once everything was clear, the two kids got a little bit nervous to try and talk to Shadow, but they would give it a try once things calmed down. They both got the fire going again and eventually dozed off.

Later when the girl awoke she saw that the boy was still sleeping, but she soon saw Shadow standing near the beach… who seemed to be lost in thought about something. Shadow was having some bad memories coming back… The Ark, The Incident, and… the death of Maria. Shadow soon thought that if he helped the two kids, history with Maria would repeat itself. However, he eventually remembered his promise to Maria; helping others and protecting the world. He soon thought that there's always a way to change things and that he can prevent a repeat of his tragic past. "Hey are you ok?" Shadow turned around to see that the girl was behind him trying to figure out what was wrong. "Sure I'm fine." Shadow replied. The girl asked him, "Who are you? My name's Six and my other friend is named Mono. What's your name?" "It's Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog." Shadow replied. Six wondered what was going to happen now, but Shadow told her that he'll help them with whatever they're going to do. As soon as Mono woke up, Six soon explained to him that Shadow was going to help them. As they soon were trying to push the door to sail to the other side of the lake, Shadow told them that he had a quicker way of doing things. "How?" asked Mono. Shadow pulled out the green chaos emerald and knew what to do. "Time for Chaos Control." he said as he teleported the three of them to the other side. Once they teleported, they soon arrived at an area known as the Pale City. Once they had a good look around, they decided to head into the unknown land. Shadow didn't know what would come in this new area, but he knew that he wouldn't let anything stand in his way.
