Tonks Residence, Reading, 7/16/1996, 13:44

Harry felt his feet slam into the ground, it was all he could do to remain upright as the three of them appeared in the back garden of the Tonks' family home. The weather was quite nice here but it was still significantly cooler than where they had just travelled from.

As much as he'd enjoyed the trip, Harry was still thrilled to be home again. There was also the fact that he was looking forward to seeing Tonks again after two weeks apart.

"It's good to be home," Andi smiled as she looked around her gardens.

"I don't know Andi, I almost didn't want to leave the island," Ted chuckled as he led them to the back door.

"But the weeds are already starting to come up in my tulips, Ted," Andi pouted as she inspected her flowerbeds critically.

"I can take care of that," Harry offered as they stepped into the kitchen.

"Absolutely not," Andi said firmly.

"But I know how to weed a garden, my aunt made me do it every summer," Harry said.

"Sorry dear, nobody works in my garden but me," Andi said as Ted shut the door.

"She's very territorial with her flowers," Ted said fondly.

"I'm not territorial, I just take pride in knowing that I grew everything in my garden," Andi corrected, giving Ted a look of amusement.

"Alright, I hate gardening anyway," Harry admitted.

"Then you couldn't work in my garden. My flowers need love to grow properly," Andi smirked.

"Why don't you take your stuff upstairs and get unpacked," Ted suggested as he dug Harry's shrunken trunk from his robe pocket.

"Sure," Harry said as he accepted the matchbox-sized trunk and headed towards his room.

Harry quickly made his way upstairs to his room noticing that the room looked like a tornado had blown through it. The covers were wadded up and dirty clothes were strewn all over the place. Old pizza boxes and empty fizzy drink cans littered his desk. The final touch was a lacey pink bra hanging from the ceiling fan.

"Looks like Tonks has been here," Harry muttered to himself as he set his shrunken trunk on the floor at the foot of his bed and tapped it with his wand.

Harry watched as his trunk expanded to its original size before he flipped open the lid and began pulling out his dirty clothes to take down to the laundry room.

Harry was just placing his underwear into the hamper when his door opened and Tonks came into the room looking to have just gotten out of the shower. Harry couldn't help noticing her wet hair nor the fact that she was only wearing a fluffy white towel wrapped around her torso.

"Wotcher," Tonks exclaimed, her eyes lighting up when she saw Harry kneeling beside his trunk.

"Tonks," Harry beamed before she pulled him to his feet and pressed a searing kiss on his lips.

Harry wrapped his arms around her as he deepened the kiss, causing Tonks to moan into his mouth.

"Uh-hm," Andi coughed from the doorway, getting the attention of the amorous couple.

"It's good to see you, Nymphadora," Andi said as the two separated.

"You too, Mum. How was the Island?" Tonks asked, her hair shifting to a light orange colour.

"Quite lovely, perhaps after you get dressed we can tell you all about it?" Andi said, giving her daughter a pointed look.

"I was coming in here to get dressed," Tonks defended.

"Silly me, it looked like you and my ward were snogging," Andi quipped.

"We were happy to see each other after a long time apart," Tonks exclaimed, shooting her mother a look of annoyance.

"I saw that, Nymphadora," Andi said sounding amused.

"I'll just get dressed," Tonks said as she stumbled over to the dresser and began digging around for fresh clothes.

"Yes, your father will be thrilled to see you," Andi beamed as she began leading Harry out of the room.

Harry gave Tonks an apologetic smile over his shoulder before Andi led him into the hallway and shut the door so Tonks could get dressed.

"I am pleased that you and Nymphadora are getting along so well. I just hope that you two are being careful because I do not want to be a grandmother just yet," Andi said as they began descending the stairs.

"Huh?" Harry said dumbly, nearly tripping over his feet when he processed what she'd said.

"I just want you to bear in mind that the potion doesn't always work, Nymphadora is proof of that," Andi said as the two of them entered the kitchen to find Sirius and Ted discussing quidditch.

"So you found him, then?" Sirius asked when he spotted Harry and Andi.

"I did, Harry and Nymphadora were saying hello when I got up there," Andi shrugged.

"I knew that the two of them dating would cause us trouble in the end," Ted said before sipping his beer.

"We were just kissing," Harry protested, feeling his face heat up at the look Sirius was giving him.

"That's where it always starts," Sirius smirked.

"What are you doing here, I thought you had to meet with Dumbledore?" Harry asked Sirius, hoping to change the subject.

"I did meet with him, Albus wants to speak with you this Saturday," Sirius said, giving Harry a meaningful look.

"About what?" Harry asked not sure whether he really wanted to meet with Dumbledore or not after what happened at Hogwarts last month.

"He wouldn't say, but I think he wants to teach you this year," Sirius said, a conflicted look crossing his features.

"He's asking a lot," Harry muttered as Tonks entered the kitchen dressed in jeans and a Weird Sisters tee shirt.

"Who's asking a lot?" Tonks asked.

"Albus wants to meet with Harry this Saturday," Andromeda answered.

"I knew that was coming," Tonks shrugged before she engulfed her dad in a hug.

"Hello Dora," Ted beamed as he returned the hug.

"Hey Dad, it looks like you lot got some sun," Tonks said before hugging Andi.

"We did, I loved the island," Andi gushed.

"Would have been nicer if you had come with us," Harry said as Tonks came to stand beside him.

"I wish that I could have," Tonks admitted.

"Well back to Albus, he wants to come by here for lunch on Saturday," Sirius said, getting back to the subject at hand.

"Good, I still have a few questions for that man," Andi muttered, a dark look crossing her features.

"If you're planning on chewing him a new one, you'll probably have to get in line," Sirius chuckled.

"Harry should still accept his offer," Ted pointed out.

"Why?" Harry asked looking over at Ted in surprise.

"Well even with his obvious faults, Dumbledore knows more about magic than most could ever hope to learn," Ted said, giving Harry a serious look.

"He's right," Sirius agreed though he didn't sound pleased about this.

"Fine, I'll at least hear him out," Harry said, not liking the idea of working with Dumbledore.

"Good, you may not like him but he can help you," Ted said and got a grudging nod of agreement from Andi.

"So what's for dinner?" Tonks asked in an obvious attempt to lighten the mood.

"No idea," Ted said looking thoughtful.

"I'll whip something up," Andi said as she went over to the refrigerator.

"There's nothing in there, Mum," Tonks said, her hair turning a deep shade of orange.

"You cleaned out the fridge?" Ted exclaimed, giving Tonks an exasperated look.

"I was hungry," Tonks shrugged.

"I can go pick up take-out," Ted offered.

"Fried chicken?" Tonks asked looking hopeful.

"I was thinking pizza," Ted corrected.

"Pizza sounds good," Andi agreed.

Harry couldn't fight his grin as Tonks began to try and talk them into KFC. He really had missed her while he was gone. As Ted and Sirius left to go pick up pizza, Harry and Tonks slipped into the sitting room to spend a little time together before dinner. They were joined by Andi not long after.

As Harry listened to Tonks and Andi argue about which show to watch, he couldn't help but feel pleased to be home.

Tonks Residence, Reading, 7/18/1996

Harry was perusing weeks' worth of Daily Prophets seeing if anything noteworthy since they had been on vacation. The only major event he'd seen had happened in Mexico about a week ago.

The vampires in Europe were furious about the slaughter of over a thousand vampires in a single night. According to the paper, a family of muggles and two bank robbers visited a bar that was run by the queen of the Central American vampire coven. The vampire queen was killed in the confrontation and the European vampire covens were filing a complaint with the ICW.

On the plus side, it was very unlikely that the vampires would be willing to work with Voldemort so that was one less thing to worry about.

"Good morning," Tonks said as she stepped into the kitchen already dressed in her auror robes.

"Whoa," Harry said finding the look of Tonks dressed in her uniform very appealing.

"Like the uniform, do you?" Tonks smirked as she took a seat beside him.

"It looks good on you," Harry said, giving her a smile.

"It's nice to be wearing it again," Tonks said as she poured herself a cup of coffee.

"What have you been up to at the ministry?" Harry asked with interest as Tonks took a sip of her coffee.

Harry hadn't seen her much since arriving from the island. Tonks was usually either working or sleeping and Andromeda seemed to be keeping a close eye on them, much to their consternation.

"Bones has us running nightly raids Last night we hit the Flints' house," Tonks said.

"Did you find anyone important?" Harry asked.

"No, it was a waste of time," Tonks shrugged as Andi stepped into the kitchen still dressed in her sleepwear.

"Good morning you two," Andi beamed as she made her way over to the fridge to start breakfast.

"Mornin' Mum," Tonks said.

"Good morning, Andi," Harry said feeling the slightest bit annoyed that his alone time with Tonks was interrupted yet again.

"So what have you two got planned for today?" Andi asked as she began a pot of porridge.

"I'm working the morning shift then Harry and I are going into Muggle London," Tonks answered causing Harry to glance over at her in surprise.

"Really?" Andi asked, glancing over to the table.

"Yep. That way we can have a bit of alone time," Tonks said, giving her mother a pointed look.

"I am just making sure that you two are being careful," Andi said, sounding unconcerned.

"You haven't left us alone for five minutes since you lot got back from the island," Tonks huffed.

"You've barely been home for five minutes since we got back," Andi pointed out.

"Well I'm off this afternoon and Harry owes me a tee shirt," Tonks said as Andi hovered two bowls of porridge onto the table.

"Well I want the both of you to be careful," Andi said as she joined them at the table carrying her own bowl of porridge.

"Where's Dad at?" Tonks asked.

"He got called into work this morning," Andi sighed.

"For what?" Tonks demanded.

"Some little boy was given a cursed necklace," Andi said as she stirred brown sugar into her porridge.

"Is the kid okay?" Harry asked with interest.

"Ted thinks he'll pull through though the necklace had a very nasty curse on it," Andi admitted.

"Was it death eaters?" Harry asked with interest.

"No, it was a pair of crooks selling counterfeit protection amulets," Andi scowled.

"Bones says that the minister plans on creating a special department to deal with this kind of thing," Tonks admitted.

"The ministry had a real problem with counterfeit items last time around, as well," Andi sighed.

"Arthur was supposed to head that department before he-

Tonks trailed off as she realized what she was going to say. Harry felt his stomach squirm at the mention of Mister Weasley and reached over and took Tonks' hand before giving it a comforting squeeze.

"How are the Weasleys doing?" Harry asked after a moment of uncomfortable silence.

"I haven't seen much of them since it happened, Molly doesn't come to order meetings anymore," Tonks admitted.

"Can't say that I blame her," Andi muttered.

"I wrote to Ron before we left but I haven't heard anything from him," Harry said, wondering if he should send Ron another letter.

The rest of the morning passed with more lighthearted conversation. Soon Andi and Tonks left for work and Harry was left to his own devices. Tonks promised to come back around noon so they could go to London. Tonks must be rubbing off on him because he was already anticipating a trip to KFC for lunch.

Harry was just going through the channels when he heard a tapping on the window and turned to see a tawny owl perched on the window sill. Rushing over to the window, Harry opened it and allowed the owl to fly inside.

Harry had a hunch as to what this could be and hastily relieved the bird of the letter it had tied to its leg. The owl flew back out the window as s soon as he removed the letter. Harry absentmindedly shut the window behind it.

Harry saw that his name was written on the envelope in steel grey ink and the flap was sealed with a wax ministry seal. Harry felt excitement and nervousness build in his stomach as he tore the envelope open and pulled out the folded-up parchment. inside. Harry felt his nerves build even more as he unfolded the missive and began to read.

Harry let out a sigh of relief as he read through his results a second time, he had passed everything except for divination and even better, he had gotten a high enough score in potions to take the N.E.W.T.

He was very pleased with his results, he'd done very well on his wanded courses and he'd even managed to scrape an E in history of magic.

Harry left the results on the kitchen table so Andi and Ted could see them and went back to watching cartoons, feeling in a much better mood.

KFC, Charring Cross, London, 7/18/1996, 13:47

Harry and Tonks stepped out of the restaurant feeling extremely well-fed. Their trip to London was going really well so far. They had plans to go see a film before they went to find her a tee shirt.

Harry couldn't fight his smile as the two of them walked hand-in-hand down the pavement

"I've been assigned a post in Hogsmeade starting in September," Tonks said as they made their way down the crowded street.

"Will you be undercover like last year?" Harry asked as he glanced over at her.

"No, I'll be in full uniform this year," Tonks said, looking pleased about this.

"I guess we won't be able to practice together," Harry mused.

"Probably not, but I think Albus wants to take over your training," Tonks said giving him a regretful smile.

"I would rather train with you," Harry shrugged.

"There isn't much that I can teach you, we're pretty much at the same level," Tonks pointed out.

"I'm going to miss you this year," Harry sighed.

"I know what you mean," Tonks said sounding a bit subdued.

"I may be able to sneak out and see you," Harry teased.

"No you won't or I'll have to arrest you," Tonks smirked.

"You can't arrest me for sneaking out of school," Harry said.

"I'm sure that I could find some way to detain you," Tonks said as she steered him towards a music shop.

"My O.W.L results came in today," Harry said causing Tonks to stop in her tracks.

"Well, how'd you do?" Tonks demanded.

"I got eight O.W.Ls," Harry smirked.

"How did you do in potions?" Tonks pressed.

"Outstanding," Harry said as he began guiding her to the shop.

"Do you still want to be an auror?" Tonks asked with interest.

"I'm not sure but I figure I can worry about that later," Harry shrugged as they stepped into the shop and the smell of incense filled their nostrils.

An hour later they stepped out of the shop, Harry had bought her a new shirt to replace the one he'd torn off of her on her birthday. He'd considered buying himself a portable CD player but realized it would be useless when he got to Hogwarts.

"Thanks for the shirt," Tonks said as they made their way towards the Leaky Cauldron.

"I promised that I'd get you a new one," Harry shrugged.

"Well try not to tear this one off of me," Tonks smirked.

"I won't, that thing cost twenty-five pounds," Harry snorted.

"It was pretty pricey," Tonks agreed.

"So where are we going now?" Harry asked though he was pretty sure he already knew.

"I thought we'd pick up some things in the alley while we're out," Tonks shrugged.

"I don't know what defence book I need, but I think that I can get everything else I need for school," Harry mused.

"I wonder who Albus will get this year," Tonks mused as they made it to the Leaky Cauldron.

"Whoever it is, has to be better than Umbridge was," Harry said as he opened the door.

The first thing Harry noticed as the two of them stepped into the pub was how empty the place was. The usual chatter and laughter Harry associated with the pub was absent and the only person in the bar other than him and Tonks was Tom who was behind the bar.

"Just passin' through today," Tonks said as Tom looked up from wiping glasses with a rag.

"You're not the only one," Tom sighed as he went back to cleaning.

Harry felt a bit bad for the man as they made their way out back to the entrance to the alley. The war seemed to be devastating his business. As soon as they stepped into the alley Harry realized that the rest of the alley was suffering a similar fate. Half of the shops were boarded up and looked to have been abandoned.

"Bloody hell," Harry muttered as he took in his surroundings.

"A lot of the merchants left the country after the attack last month," Tonks said sounding a little subdued.

"This place looks like a ghost town," Harry muttered as they began walking towards Flourish and Blotts.

There were very few people walking the streets and the ones that had decided to brave the alley were travelling in tight-knit groups and not making conversation with anyone they passed.

"Well this is just depressing," Harry muttered as the two of them slipped into the bookshop.

After purchasing a copy of the Standard Book of Spells Grade Five and a copy of Advanced Potion Making at the bookshop, the two of them made their way to the apothecary and then to Madam Malkins.

Currently, Harry was waiting for Madam Malkin to fit his robes, she had already gotten his measurements and he had placed an order for three new sets of school robes.

"Well, what have we here? I believe it's my niece and she's escorting my sister's murderer to boot," a haughty voice drawled from the changing area making Harry and Tonks both turn to face the new arrival.

"Who are you?" Harry asked as he eyed the platinum blonde warily.

"Narcissa Malfoy, dear but you may call me Lady Malfoy," Narcissa said, her voice as cold as ice.

"What are you doing here?" Tonks hissed her hair shifting to a crimson red colour.

"This is a public place and I am free to come and go where I wish," Narcissa sniffed.

"Planning on blowing up somebody else's home then?" Tonks sneered.

"I have no idea what you're insinuating, Nymphadora," Narcissa sniffed, though her cold grey eyes were alight with amusement.

"We are going to find out who was responsible for that attack," Tonks warned.

"Doubtful, the ministry still hasn't discovered who murdered my son and that was right under Dumbledore's nose, I might add," Narcissa said in a pleasant tone, though her eyes were narrowed to slits as she glared at her niece.

"So your response was to murder five innocent people?!" Tonks exclaimed.

"That's a baseless accusation," Narcissa said before she turned away from her niece and looked at Harry curiously.

Harry couldn't see much resemblance between this woman and Andi. Narcissa was very pale compared to Andromeda and what he remembered of Bellatrix. Narcissa's platinum blond hair was also at odds with the darker-coloured hair of all the other members of the Black family. Harry couldn't deny that she was a very pretty woman but something about her sent a chill up his spine.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Mister Potter," Narcissa said pulling him from his observations.

"I can't honestly say the same, Lady Malfoy," Harry said, making eye contact with the blonde.

Harry was surprised when he felt pressure on his mind and hastily reinforced his mental protections.

"I see my sister has been teaching you many things," Narcissa mused as she broke their staring contest and closed the distance so she was standing very close to Harry, looking him in the eye.

"What do you want?" Harry asked, a bit uncomfortable with her close proximity.

"I just wanted to look into the eyes of the boy who murdered my sister," Narcissa said as she reached out and ran her fingertips gently along his jawline.

"She was attacking the Burrow, it was self-defence," Harry snapped as he took a step away from Narcissa.

"And I helped him put her down, Auntie Cissa," Tonks taunted, pulling Narcissa's attention away from Harry.

"I'm well aware of the part you played in my sister's death, Nymphadora," Narcissa snapped.

"Bellatrix murdered Hannah Abbott, she got what she deserved," Harry said.

"That is a matter of opinion, dear," Narcissa said, turning back to glare at Harry.

"Actually that's from an eyewitness account," Tonks corrected.

"But you know all about that, don't you? You and your little dragon set the whole thing up, after all," Harry shot back.

Harry took another step back at the look of fury that crossed Narcissa's face at the word dragon. Harry realised that he may have said too much.

"I am sorry to say that I must be off but I am sure I'll be seeing you again very soon, Mister Potter," Narcissa said, her cold grey eyes still boring into Harry's.

"Take care," Tonks cut in as she glared at the older woman.

Narcissa took the time to smirk at them both before she glided out of the shop, leaving them standing by the counter.

"Whoa, she was creepy," Harry muttered as soon as Narcissa had stepped out of the shop.

"Yeah, and now she's going to be out for your blood," Tonks said, giving Harry an exasperated look.

"Sorry, it just slipped out," Harry mumbled, giving her a sheepish look.

Before Tonks could comment, Madam Malkin stepped back into the shop with an armload of robes looking a little flustered.

"Sorry it took so long but I ended up walking all the way to the storeroom and forgot why I was there," Madam Malkin said sounding a bit out of sorts.

"That's strange," Tonks muttered.

They quickly finished their business in the shop before making their way back towards Muggle London. Neither of them spoke much as they walked the cobblestone street. Their run-in with Narcissa Malfoy put a bit of a damper on the afternoon and Harry felt a slight bit of worry about the confrontation.

Great Hall, Hogwarts, 7/18/1996, 21:36

Tonks took her seat at the Hufflepuff table which was set up for tonight's order meeting. After her run-in with Narcissa yesterday, she was anxious to bring it to the order's attention.

Tonks whiled away the next few minutes studying the other members already seated at the table.

Sirius was sitting with Hestia Jones and the two of them seemed to be sitting very close to one another.

Sitting on the other side of Sirius was Kingsley. Tonks noticed that her colleague looked exhausted. Like her, Kingsley had been pulling a lot of double shifts over the past month.

Bill and Fleur were in attendance tonight and both seemed to be less subdued than during their last meeting. The two were whispering amongst themselves oblivious to the chatter going on around them.

Tonks saw that most of the order was already here with the exception of the Hogwarts contingent.

Just like at the last few meetings, Molly was absent from the proceedings. Tonks was starting to think that she had left permanently, not that Tonks could really blame her.

Down at the other end of the table, Dedalus Diggle was in conversation with Elphias Doge while Mad-Eye sat quietly, his magical eye constantly moving around.

Before Tonks could get a good look at Hagrid, she heard the great hall door creak open and turned to see Albus entering the hall with Snape and Minerva following in his wake. Tonks thought Albus looked a bit thinner than she remembered, making him look older than ever.

Snape looked as bored as he always did and swept over to his seat without a word. Minerva took a seat next to Mad-Eye and glanced over at Albus as he took his own seat at the head of the table, causing all of the chatter in the room to cease.

"Good evening to you all. We have a few matters of importance to discuss tonight. Firstly, I have learned that Igor Karkoroff has met with Augustus Rookwood several times over the last month," Dumbledore began.

"Isn't he the highmaster of Durmstrang?" Sirius asked in alarm.

"He is. Igor has been hiding inside his school for the past year but I believe he has agreed to help Voldemort in exchange for a pardon of sorts," Dumbledore said looking very troubled.

"How that many became an educator still baffles me," Minerva exclaimed.

"I believe nepotism had a lot to do with Igor's placement at Durmstrang," Dumbledore admitted.

"Some things never change," Sirius snorted.

"The wizarding world is nothing if not predictable," Mad-Eye said sounding disgusted.

"Yes well if my suspicions are correct, I believe Voldemort may be recruiting from Durmstrang," Dumbledore said.

"It was inevitable, he's already been recruiting from Beauxbaton," Elphias pointed out.

"The ICW recruits from Durmstrang, The school is top-notch when it comes to combat training," Kingsley said, giving Sirius a meaningful look.

"Just what he needs, Voldemort getting some well-trained fighters," Tonks scowled.

"I believe that the dark lord wishes to form an elite team," Snape admitted.

"What do you know about Narcissa Malfoy?" Tonks asked as she looked over at Snape.

"She has become the dark lord's confidant. She is also the one treating the wounds from his confrontation with Potter last month," Snape said, giving Tonks an inquiring look.

"Why do you ask this, Miss Tonks?" Dumbledore questioned.

"Harry and I ran into her in the alley today," Tonks answered.

"Really?" Dumbledore asked.

"She approached us at Madam Malkins and she tried to use legilimency on Harry" Tonks elaborated.

"Interesting," Dumbledore mused.

"Why is that bitch still walking around Diagon Alley to begin with?!" Bill demanded.

"We don't have anything on her," Kingsley said, giving Bill a sympathetic look.

"She killed my father!" Bill exclaimed.

"But we can't prove she did it, lad," Moody said sounding quite frustrated himself.

"So she's just going to get away with killing five people?" Sirius demanded.

"She will pay for her crimes in due time but we have gotten a bit off-topic," Dumbledore said.

"Well, what can we do about Voldemort recruiting on the continent?" Sirius asked, shooting Dumbledore an exasperated look.

"We have to keep tabs on his movements and try and make our own contacts there," Dumbledore said.

"I 'ave a friend zat went to Durmstrang, I can reach out to 'in eef you want," Fleur offered.

"I would appreciate that, Miss Delacour. I will reach out to some of my own contacts as well," Dumbledore beamed.

"I know a few people in the Bulgarian ministry, I can try an reach out to them as well," Elphias offered.

"Please do. Anything we can learn from that part of the world will be a tremendous help," Dumbledore agreed.

"What have the death eaters been doing for the past month? Our raids have all been coming up empty lately?"Tonks asked.

"I have been wondering that myself, death eater activity has been non-existent since the attack on headquarters," Kingsley agreed.

"I believe that he is trying to get his forces up to snuff," Dumbledore admitted.

"What like death eater boot camp," Sirius sniggered.

"Essentially, that is what he is trying to do," Dumbledore said wiping the grin off of Sirius' face.

"Bugger," Bill muttered.

"Have you learned anything new since our last meeting, Severus?" Dumbledore asked as he glanced over at his potion's master.

"No. The dark lord seems to be waiting until after his rejuvenation ritual before he puys anything into motion," Snape admitted.

"So we should plan for a lot more activity next month?" Hestia asked sounding resigned.

"Yes, I do believe that Voldemort will want to make a statement very soon," Dumbledore agreed.

"Great, I was enjoying the quiet summer," Sirius muttered.

"Same here," Tonks admitted.
