Elijah gave it a few minutes before following Freya to her bedroom. Once he got there, he lightly knocked on the door and waited.

Freya answered the door seconds later. She placed a finger to her lips to tell her brother to be quiet before ushering him inside. Once they were inside and the door was closed, she went back to the sage she was burning. Once she finished, she turned back to her brother. "Okay. We can speak now."

"Clearly you have something you wish to say that you do not want the others to know about yet," Elijah commented.

"Elena's boyfriend seems volatile and controlling. Under those circumstances, I thought it best to talk to you first," Freya told him.

Elijah nodded. He preferred that as well. He had no problems taking on Damon Salvatore, but he would like to know what he was up against first. "I thought you might be lying when you said you didn't know how to break the spell."

"I wasn't lying. I don't know how to break the spell, and I'm not certain we should risk trying. You made it clear that you did not want to risk Elenas's life, and trying to break that spell would risk it," Freya said.

Elijah sighed sadly. "Very well. I appreciate you trying, sister. Waiting for Bonnie Bennett to die is not ideal, but it will have to do. Elena will be okay."

"Hang on, Elijah. I wouldn't have brought you in here if I had no hope at all. I would have just said that in the first place. I don't think it's a good idea to risk breaking the spell, but that doesn't mean we can't do anything," Freya said.

"What do you mean?" Elijah asked.

"There's an idea I've had since before everyone even got here. It was a last resort sort of situation. I don't think I can break the spell, but I do think I might be able to shift it to somebody besides Bonnie. I can link Elena to someone else," Freya explained.

Elijah frowned in confusion. "How would that make a difference? Unless you mean to switch it to another human and then kill that human." Elijah wasn't exactly against such an idea, but Elena would be. He would think Freya would be, too.

Freya shook her head. "No, that's not what I'm suggesting. In fact, I'm suggesting the opposite. I'm suggesting we use someone who's a lot less human than Bonnie is."

Elijah understood her meeting after a moment. "You want to use a vampire. If Elena is linked to a vampire, she would wake up because the vampire would technically be dead."

She nodded. "That's what I'm hoping, yes."

"And how could you be sure that the curse the witch put on the spell would not kill Elena?" Elijah asked. He also wanted to know why his sister considered this a last resort plan. Other than the fact that them screwing with the original magic might kill Elena, this seemed generally safe.

"That's where it gets complicated. There's a spell I could use of Dahlia's. It's dark magic though. It's a spell Dahlia was hoping to use to achieve immortality. However, it was one she was very reluctant to use because she couldn't be sure what kind of complications it might have. She was toying with the idea of using vampirism to obtain immortality, but she didn't wanna lose her witch abilities. She believed this spell would help her achieve that," Freya explained to him.

Elijah frowned. "I didn't know such a spell existed."

"That's because Dahlia is the first witch that has ever even thought of doing such a thing. No other witch has ever even thought of toying with vampirism, to my knowledge. Well, other than our mother, of course," Freya said.

"I am not certain how you think such a spell would help Elena. She is not a witch. Besides, she can't become a vampire again. The cure is inside her," Elijah said.

"That's exactly why we would need this spell. The cure is magic. This spell would allow vampirism and magic to coexist. The spell would ensure Elena's survival if Kai's contingency spell tries to kill her," Freya explained.

"You're thinking, that since she would already be a vampire, she couldn't die. Even if the spell did kill her, she'd come back as a vampire in transition," Elijah reasoned.

"Not exactly. I can't be sure because the spell has never been performed, but I'm pretty certain the spell will make her a vampire. Not a vampire in transition. A full blown vampire," Freya told him.

Elijah closed his eyes sadly. That meant if they did this, Elena had no chance of keeping her humanity. It saddened him because he knew this wasn't what she wanted. She took the cure because she didn't want to be a vampire. However, it seemed to be the only way to bring her back. "This is the only way?"

"The only way that I can guarantee her survival. I could try the shifting spell without turning her, but there is a good chance she wouldn't survive it. Any other plan I could come up with would have the same odds, if not worse. You told me you were unwilling to risk her life," Freya reminded him.

Elijah nodded. He had said that, and he meant it. "Hold on, what about Bonnie Bennett? Would her life not still be at risk if you did this spell?" Bonnie was Elena's friend. It would devastate her if the other woman died to save her.

Freya sighed. "That's possible, yes. I'd like to think that if we save Elena, we'll save her. I'm hoping that saving one saves them both, but I can't know that for sure. That's why I'm not going to do this without both Elena's and Bonnies consent. I will enter Elena 's mind and get her consent on all of this."

Elijah nodded, but didn't seem very hopeful. He was almost certain that Elena would not agree if her best friend's life was in danger.

"There's something else. I can't risk using just any vampire for this. With what I have to do, I don't think a normal vampire would survive the spell, and if the vampire doesn't survive, neither will Elena," Freya told him.

"You would need to use an original. You will use me," Elijah said. It was not a question. It came down to him or his brother and he would not ask Elena to be connected to Niklaus in such a way.

"Hold on, Elijah. I still haven't told you what this would mean for you. The spell is very taxing," Freya warned.

"I don't care. If you can get Bonnie and Elena to agree to this, I will do it. I do not care what it entails," Elijah told her.

"Elijah, I'm gonna have to use you for both spells. That means I'm going to have to drain you of the majority of your blood volume, if not all of it," Freya told him. That was mainly why she couldn't use a normal vampire. That, along with the spell itself, would almost certainly kill a regular vampire. As it was, it was going to severely weaken Elijah for quite a while.

"Do what you must. You have no idea what I owe that young woman, Freya. If I must endure some pain, so be it," Elijah said firmly.

"It's not just the spell. I'm not sure how the linking spell will affect the two of you. The linking spell was designed to keep one of you asleep while the other lives. I don't know how it'll be affected by both of you being awake and alive," Freya said. That was one of the many reasons she was hesitant about this plan. However, she didn't think she was gonna be able to come up with a better option.

"Sister, I am not concerned with the risks to me. If this will save Elena and she agrees, I will do this. I do not care how it will affect me," Elijah said firmly.

Freya nodded. She was starting to believe that Klaus was right about their brother's feelings for this girl. Elijah didn't typically agree to something without knowing all the risks, yet he was willing to do it for this young woman. "Alright. I will speak to Bonnie and then go into Elena 's mind to speak with her. If they both agree, we can get started right away. In the meantime, I want you to feed. If this works out, it's going to take a lot out of you. You need to be as strong as possible."

"Very well," Elijah said before heading for the door.
